[Q] SBC kernel question... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I've been trying to figure this out for the past couple weeks but I finally decided to look for some help..
My OEM battery wasnt always chafing so I decided to buy a new one online (same OEM 1500mAh) then I put my new battery in, go into recovery and wipe batt stats, flash tiamat SBC kernel and continue using my phone...well after a couple days I realized that my phone wasn't trickle charging all the way to 0 it would either trickle to about 10 and then hold or it would start discharging while it was still on the charger like I didn't have SBC....I've tried different kernel versions, continuously wiping batt stats and making sure my phone isn't doing anything strange and nothing
I'm currently running the latest MIUI rom with tiamat 3.3.3 with SBC...oh and this also happened when I was running CM7...any input is appreciated

When you wipe battery stats are you at 100%? Then let it discharge until it's almost dead? If not, do it again, after it discharges fully, charge it to 100% again without any breaks in charging.

Yea I just did that n it seems 2 help out just letting u know

I don't believe you need to wipe battery stats on sbc. But I could be wrong. I would suggest dl the kernel again and reflash.

[Q] Skyraider 3.3.1 question about battery

My battery seems to drop by 10 percent almost immediately after coming off charger. I read this is a known issue. My question is if I install different kernel will this fix problem? And what would be a good starting one?
Thanks!
That will happen no matter what kernel you have installed. You must bump charge to reach a full 100% charge. Try out different kernels, everyone has their own opinion on which is best. I am using the newest stock HTC kernel and get great battery life, but i also did with Kings BFS Kernel.
Wonder why this can't be fixed?
By bump charge do you mean that you unplug and plug back?
Charge your phone to full with the phone turned on, then power off and charge till the light turns green again.

Losing battery life....

My daily ROM is vealpak but yesterday I was on cm7 final but I nanded back to vealpak and now I'm losing battery life fast I did the proper wipes even did vr format all zip any idea I use to get great battery life I use nat's 4.3.4 cfs havs more sbc kernel any ideas why this would be happening?

I know I post this a lot, but after anytime i flash a new ROM, or notice rapid battery loss, I have a battery routine I use, derived from the various conditioning methods on here, that works very VERY well.
1 - The "HTC Method w/10 Time Unplug"
Charge to full, unplug, turn off the phone, charge while off for another hour. Unplug, turn the phone on for 2 minutes, turn it off again, charge for another hour.
Unplug til the light goes off, plug back in til it turns green.
Do that 10 times.
Boot to Recovery, while plugged in. Clear battery stats, boot to system. And wait 2 mins, THEN unplug.
Also, I keep my GPS, mobile data and WiFi off unless I need it. You don't need either of those to make phone calls or texts
Yeah, you probably just need to wipe battery stats, but the method listed above is good for making sure the battery is actually at 100% when you wipe the stats.
Thanks for the help the wipe worked I think I'm going back to nat's 4.3.2 cfs havs more sbc I got better battery on that and for the charging method I would like to try that but I can't seem to put my phone down that long I think I would go crazy! lol

You don't sleep?? lol
It probably doesn't have to be 8 hours, but I do it overnight, and on a weekend, when I can wake up and not need my phone for a few hours.

A strange problem.

After I rooted my 2.3.3 evo I have this issue of very very slow charging after I flash anything so slow in fact that ill get 30% overnight then after I get a full charge its fine.
Also I was wondering which kernel has the loudest audio gain
Thanks for the help and all the great work by all the devs

look at the charger you use. if you're only using 100 mA to charge your phone. what do you expect? Try different chargers with different brands.
the stock charger should work just fine for charging fast, working on the assumption that that is what your using, did you wipe your battery stats in recovery after u flashed your new rom? If not charge your battery to 100%, access recovery, go to wipe, wipe battery stats, do it twice just in case. Then drain your phone till it shuts off and recharge. See if that works
If you've flashed a different rom/kernel, that may be your culprit. I've found that some kernels charge more slowly than others... specifically SBC builds. However, eight hours and only increasing 30% sounds like more than just a kernel. Definitely charge fully then wipe battery stats, something may be wonky.
If you wiped battery stats during your routine wipe, and your battery wasn't fully charged then that will cause issues as well.

Ya I've got the stock charger from sprint and I've wiped the batt stats. I recently even went thru my sdcard to remove unused back ups I've tried differ rom/kernel combo and all have this issue.

[Q] HELP! HTC EVO 4G battery wont charge fully even after wiped battery stats!

welcome all who see this. alright, my phone is rooted, and i went to upgrade to gingerbread and i used the mikg rom 2.5:1-2. unfortunately i erased the battery stats not paying attention and talking. from then....the phone battery never charges.....even when plugged in it constantly sinks to nothing. even when i charged it turned off for 6 hours, it never gets past 15% HELP! i have tried to rewipe the battery stats, but i only get past draining the battery, because now it wont fully charge. i even bought an extended battery which also drains, but never charges! i am not sure what to do to get battery stats up to par, or to cause this phone to charge any battery! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! (much appreciated)
im a noob here so i really dont know what im talking about but i had almost the same problem when i bought my extended battery from sprint. first day of use was really good and when i went to charge the next time as soon as i unplugged the charger after a full charge the % would drop soo much...i was getting like 10 hrs which isnt much with an extended battery. i updated to mikg 2.53 and wiped the cache and all the usual and the battery stats and its seem to workin now 1d 4h 54m on battery....hopefully this helps
Use an external wall charger or a different phone to fully charge the battery. Then insert the battery and immediately wipe battery stats.
Should fix the problem.
Using an sbc kernel will allow you to fully charge the battery as well. Use something like Battery Monitor Widget to keep an eye on your charge - 4200mv is fully charged.

It almost sounds like a problem with the phone. I wipe battery stats everytime I flash a new Rom and I've never had problems. You might want to see if the battery will charge on someone else's phone first.

[Q] Battery Calibration

Ok so what ive read and heard is that calibrating your battery after a new rom will give you quite alot more battery power (Which im like obsessed with), but anyway ive read that
1: Charge your battery to 100%
2: Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats or use a battery calibration app to do so
3: Now let the battery die completely so you cant turn it back on
and 4 is what im wondering about.
4: Charge your phone to 100% while its OFF.
Im a very busy person and have important things to be doing and i dont have 3 or 4 hours to have my phone off charging up.. sure having it on and charging is one thing but off while charging is another.
First: Can i calibrate it by charging it while its on after dieing? Second: Is there a work around to finish the calibration if i HAVE to have it charge up off?
Any help would be appreciated.
Also. YOUL GET A COOKIE!
Try this,
Plug in charge till green
Unplug power down
Plug in (while off) charge till green
Unplug power up
Let it completely settle
Plug in charge till green
Power down
Boot into Recovery
Wipe Battery Stats
Click the link in my sig, scroll to battery life. the part where you have to turn your phone off can be overnight on a weekend, maybe.
It's not advisable to run the battery down to zero, btw

I've heard it both ways. If you charge to 100% without unplugging, you should be fine with keeping your phone on.
Also realize that if you're using an SBC kernel then you don't really need to calibrate your battery. You can, but I don't know if it'll help much.
