A strange problem. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After I rooted my 2.3.3 evo I have this issue of very very slow charging after I flash anything so slow in fact that ill get 30% overnight then after I get a full charge its fine.
Also I was wondering which kernel has the loudest audio gain
Thanks for the help and all the great work by all the devs

look at the charger you use. if you're only using 100 mA to charge your phone. what do you expect? Try different chargers with different brands.

the stock charger should work just fine for charging fast, working on the assumption that that is what your using, did you wipe your battery stats in recovery after u flashed your new rom? If not charge your battery to 100%, access recovery, go to wipe, wipe battery stats, do it twice just in case. Then drain your phone till it shuts off and recharge. See if that works

If you've flashed a different rom/kernel, that may be your culprit. I've found that some kernels charge more slowly than others... specifically SBC builds. However, eight hours and only increasing 30% sounds like more than just a kernel. Definitely charge fully then wipe battery stats, something may be wonky.
If you wiped battery stats during your routine wipe, and your battery wasn't fully charged then that will cause issues as well.

Ya I've got the stock charger from sprint and I've wiped the batt stats. I recently even went thru my sdcard to remove unused back ups I've tried differ rom/kernel combo and all have this issue.

Losing battery life....

My daily ROM is vealpak but yesterday I was on cm7 final but I nanded back to vealpak and now I'm losing battery life fast I did the proper wipes even did vr format all zip any idea I use to get great battery life I use nat's 4.3.4 cfs havs more sbc kernel any ideas why this would be happening?

I know I post this a lot, but after anytime i flash a new ROM, or notice rapid battery loss, I have a battery routine I use, derived from the various conditioning methods on here, that works very VERY well.
1 - The "HTC Method w/10 Time Unplug"
Charge to full, unplug, turn off the phone, charge while off for another hour. Unplug, turn the phone on for 2 minutes, turn it off again, charge for another hour.
Unplug til the light goes off, plug back in til it turns green.
Do that 10 times.
Boot to Recovery, while plugged in. Clear battery stats, boot to system. And wait 2 mins, THEN unplug.
Also, I keep my GPS, mobile data and WiFi off unless I need it. You don't need either of those to make phone calls or texts
Yeah, you probably just need to wipe battery stats, but the method listed above is good for making sure the battery is actually at 100% when you wipe the stats.
Thanks for the help the wipe worked I think I'm going back to nat's 4.3.2 cfs havs more sbc I got better battery on that and for the charging method I would like to try that but I can't seem to put my phone down that long I think I would go crazy! lol

You don't sleep?? lol
It probably doesn't have to be 8 hours, but I do it overnight, and on a weekend, when I can wake up and not need my phone for a few hours.

[Q] SBC kernel question...

Ok so I've been trying to figure this out for the past couple weeks but I finally decided to look for some help..
My OEM battery wasnt always chafing so I decided to buy a new one online (same OEM 1500mAh) then I put my new battery in, go into recovery and wipe batt stats, flash tiamat SBC kernel and continue using my phone...well after a couple days I realized that my phone wasn't trickle charging all the way to 0 it would either trickle to about 10 and then hold or it would start discharging while it was still on the charger like I didn't have SBC....I've tried different kernel versions, continuously wiping batt stats and making sure my phone isn't doing anything strange and nothing
I'm currently running the latest MIUI rom with tiamat 3.3.3 with SBC...oh and this also happened when I was running CM7...any input is appreciated

When you wipe battery stats are you at 100%? Then let it discharge until it's almost dead? If not, do it again, after it discharges fully, charge it to 100% again without any breaks in charging.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Yea I just did that n it seems 2 help out just letting u know
I don't believe you need to wipe battery stats on sbc. But I could be wrong. I would suggest dl the kernel again and reflash.

[Q] HELP! HTC EVO 4G battery wont charge fully even after wiped battery stats!

welcome all who see this. alright, my phone is rooted, and i went to upgrade to gingerbread and i used the mikg rom 2.5:1-2. unfortunately i erased the battery stats not paying attention and talking. from then....the phone battery never charges.....even when plugged in it constantly sinks to nothing. even when i charged it turned off for 6 hours, it never gets past 15% HELP! i have tried to rewipe the battery stats, but i only get past draining the battery, because now it wont fully charge. i even bought an extended battery which also drains, but never charges! i am not sure what to do to get battery stats up to par, or to cause this phone to charge any battery! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! (much appreciated)
im a noob here so i really dont know what im talking about but i had almost the same problem when i bought my extended battery from sprint. first day of use was really good and when i went to charge the next time as soon as i unplugged the charger after a full charge the % would drop soo much...i was getting like 10 hrs which isnt much with an extended battery. i updated to mikg 2.53 and wiped the cache and all the usual and the battery stats and its seem to workin now 1d 4h 54m on battery....hopefully this helps
Use an external wall charger or a different phone to fully charge the battery. Then insert the battery and immediately wipe battery stats.
Should fix the problem.
Using an sbc kernel will allow you to fully charge the battery as well. Use something like Battery Monitor Widget to keep an eye on your charge - 4200mv is fully charged.

It almost sounds like a problem with the phone. I wipe battery stats everytime I flash a new Rom and I've never had problems. You might want to see if the battery will charge on someone else's phone first.

Battery drops 6% when unplugged.

I currently run MIUI on my Evo, and I'm having a problem. My phone will say its fully charged and all, with the green LED saying so, but when I unplug the phone, my battery level drops down to 94% immediatly. What is this? I bought a brand new battery and I still got this problem. Anyone who can I can do?

You either need to calibrate your battery (app off the market). Or try using a SBC kernel, which properly charges your battery to its full capacity. Make sure its an aosp kernel like mason, or taimat.
Lol sane experience on morning
wanam v10.6 siyah v3.0.1
Definitely needs calibration.Just search for how to properly do it on the forums.I personally use battery calibration from the app store.Charge the battery to 100%,then use the app.Unplug through phone and use the phone all the way until it dies on its on.Then plug it in without turning it on and wait until its fully charged.Turn on and use it once more until it dies.Charge again to 100% then after that you should be good to go.Hope this helps ya.

A non-sbc kernel will charge to 100%, then begin to discharge to about 90%, then cycle back up... Depending when you pull the plug, in reality it could be anywhere inbetween that range, so 100 is not a true 100... Calibrating the battery by deleting the bin file doesn't produce any long term results..
A manual way to mimic a full charge would be to charge to 100 percent, unplug, plug back in for a bit and repeat about 10 times, and it should give you a decent charge.
That's a manual way of doing what a SBC kernel does automatically for you
Hey,
Like they said get the SBC, and calibrate your battery, and that should fix it.
I assume at night you are plugging it in till the morning, and this is your issue because in the middle of your sleep it is reaching full and stopping its charge. so by the time you unplug it drops down to how much it discharged.
Charging with your phone off solves this to
Let your phone completely drain till it turns off. Charge the phone while its off till you see the green "charged" light. Unplug usb, wait for green light to disappear and plug usb back in, phone will still charge. Repeat process about ten times. On the tenth time boot into recovery and wipe batt stats, then reboot phone.

Flashed the SBC, and properly calibrated my battery. I'm still at 100% battery level after an hour!

Good to see that worked for ya. I'd +1 the SBC kernel if you hadn't found that it has been working for you. I've been using Mason's 14 with ICS for a few weeks now and i've found that with the screen off, the battery sits at 100% for quite a while. I haven't used the battery calibrator and maybe i should see how that helps. Does it show significant results or is it mostly a gimmick?

Im not sure what everyone on here thinks it does, but calibrating the battery is strictly for stats. It will not lengthen the battery life or keep it from draining down from 100% faster. All it will do is assure that your battery stats, aka estimated time you have left on your battery, are more accurate.

good luck. I tried sbc and it was working well for about two weeks, then my battery suddenly started draining super fast. Rumor has it that SBC will in time ruin your battery, which it seemed to possibly be doing to mine. Got rid of SBC, flashed back to build28, ran vipermod script and undervolted -75mV and im magically back to normal.
My findings are that if I just run the stock kernel with build 28, I get the best battery life. As soon as I started trying mason kernel, tiamat kernel, or even faux kernel on build 31, my battery drained too fast for my liking. Thus far I have reached 40 hours on my battery on build 28, with vipermod, stock kernel!
I just got brand new batteries, i have not calibrated nor wiped battery stats after flashing. I do have Mason's kernel and am under-volted by -50. I also have an app called battery xl it helps control what is running when you may not be aware or forget. My battery stays at 100% for over 2hours with minimal use. The only thing i heard is that you have to use the battery down to 10% and then charge while phone is off.Do this about 4 to 5 times and that conditions it(when it's brand new) and it will help your battery last longer before needing a replacement.
Just my .02
Several people have reported bad experiences with the SBC kernels, but there are many more (myself included) that have had absolutely no issues with them and I have used several iterations of the SBC since it was first released for the Evo.
At this point, for me, the benefits more than outweigh the risks. If you do have a problem, buy a new battery. They are pretty darn cheap these days.

battery only charges to 91%

I'm currently on the cyogenmod 9 alpha 3. when i have it charged over night it goes to 100% then as i unplug it, it goes stright to 91%

Pull your battery out after charging to 100. Wait a minute, put it back in, boot up, and then charge to 100 again. Repeat until you boot up to 100 then wipe battery stats and use until 1% battery.

Also might want to let it drain all the way.. then fully charge and try wiping battery stats in a cwm recovery..

will do..
Did the advice in this thread fix your problem? My phone just started doing a similar thing today while at work. I'm on CM9 A3, FD10 kernel and FD26 modem. I had my phone plugged in at my desk, it indicated it was at 100%, and then as soon as I unplugged it went down to 84%. I flashed back to EL26, rei-nstalled CM9 A3, and it's still doing it. It also will do it with the phone off. After it's plugged in for a matter of seconds, it jumps up to 100% and stops charging. As soon as it is unplugged, back down to the 80s.
the same thing happens to me every once in a while, pulling the battery seems to help

This! I have always done this when it has happened to me and it has always worked. I would recommend before flashing any new rom when you wipe everything else like cache and delvic and all that good stuff include wiping battery stats.
Thanks for the responses. It is apparently the charger that I had at work. I'm a little surprised that a charger would cause a phone to think it's charged all the way but I guess stranger things have happened.
Charging off usb seems to work the best, I was using an old blackberry charger that gave me similar issues. Now I only use samsung wall chargers.

Trust me a bad charger can cause a lot of problems. One time I was using a crappy lg charger and whenever I would plug my phone in it would say battery disconnected I was sure the phone was messed up took it to sprint they hooked it up to the Samsung charger it comes with it charged fine. They gave me a new charger and I have never had a problem since.
