lol ok im back already people, here again for those of you that didnt see my first post i have a MyTouch 3GS w/ gapps and CM7 installed, along with apps2sd AND data2ext. now i downloaded the NFS shift apk before i rooted my device, and it ran fine on 2.2 froyo (the official one), and even after i rooted and used 3rd sense rom, it worked, BUT wen i got to CM 7.0.0 and CM 7.0.3 , it will load the "NFS Shift" boot screen, go black, then exit back to the screen i was on before i ran the game (typically the home screen) so does anyone hav a solution to this problem. let me add that i downloaded CPU tuner from the market, if i increase the amount of Mhz it uses to increase performance, will this allow the games to run!? please someone help me
p.s. i tried it on a modified NOVA apk and the same thing happened
Thanks in advance!!!
I believe it's because the app isn't supported on 2.3 yet, or at least not CM7. Not much you can do about that. If you want, you can flash a froyo rom, you should be able to run it on that.
Try moving the app to SD card, in case you haven't yet and see if it works that way.

Has anyone else noticed that there some paid/protected apps are not showing up in the marketplace? I can't find fandango or ride hopper pro using this rom, but they show up on slidemeroot2, nonrooted slides and a nonrooted motorola droid.
Anyone else notice missing crap?

There are rooted and unrooted slides experiencing this as well. There is a thread about it in the general section

I restored my slidemeroot2 nandroid image, wiped and reset up my google account. Low and behold I could get those two apps.
I restored my slidemeroot5, wiped, reset and still couldn't get them.
Wiped, reflashed slidemeroot5r1, added my google account and no dice off a virgin 5r1 flash.
Only thing I can think of is it knows I'm running apps2sd and can copy the apk from apps.private.

There are a few reasons why some might actually need root the most important being the ability to put your applications onto the SD card (a2sd). Some people love to fill their phones to the brim with applications and currently there is no stock feature that allows you to use a2sd. Another feature that rooting allows is the capacity to use a wireless data sharing application that would give one the ability to use their phone as a modem with any wirelessly enabled laptop or computer. Currently there are a couple of applications in the market that will allow the use of your phone as a modem but I have found them to be less efficient than the rooted solution and limited as free versions and somewhat expensive for the full featured versions. There is talk that the 2.2 (FroYo) system update will include the a2sd feature but I was told by a tmobile beta device and software tester that he is confident that a2sd and native data tethering (network data connection sharing) with a usb cable will NOT be features supported natively in the coming FroYo (2.2) system update.
Rooting is also good for simply trying out customized and themed operating systems in the form of ROMs. Some folks have a big problem with the tmobile branded "Sense" operating system (OS) that was shipped with the phone. I love the Sense OS and I was a hardcore "Cyanogen Mod" ROM fan ... I can't imagine using a Cyanogen ROM at this point but I will try a Cyanogen ROM once that particular ROM is released because those ROMs are usually very nice. As the rooting scene develops there might by a way to "overclock" the processor to a higher speed than the 600mhz clock speed the stock ROM and all root ROMs are currently set. There has been no such overclocking achieved or utilized with a rooted ROM for the MT3GS at this point. Overclocking reduces battery life so you really have to choose whether a subtle performance improvement is worth the loss of battery longevity throughout the day.
Currently I think stock and unrooted is the way to go as the ROM's that are currently available for the MT3GS are no real improvement over stock ... but if you need a2sd due to limited internal memory or you need a mobile modem for your laptop or home computer then it is absolutely worth while. So it all depends on what you are trying improve the efficiency of when it comes to rooting.

I really appreciate you answering my question . I have a stock mt3g slide and I love the phone along with the Sense UI. It's fast, responsive and the only thing I was going to do was purchase a 32 gig card and be done with it . I started poking around the forums and that's how I came across "rooting". I just came from a jailbroken, unlocked Iphone 3g so I was totally stoked about doing this to my phone. But as I was reading up on it, I really did not see the purpose in rooting the mt3g slide just yet, besides like you said, the apps2sd and the tethering (which I did not know I could do on this phone until you mentioned it). I am a firm believer in tethering and I even downloaded the PdaNet app onto my phone but have yet to test it out.
My battery life is decent considering I keep 3g on at all times. Granted, there are a few spots that I travel to that have to use Edge but those spots are small. I saw a few videos with some nice roms but they all had the Sense UI removed and basically looked like every other android phone. I personally would like to "root" my phone while retaining Sense UI. I really like the "live wallpapers" and I have seen videos with it running on the slide and it looks really nice. Have you heard of an app called SetCpu <--spelling? I saw that people were able to overclock their chips significantly and I was wondering if I could use this same app on my mt3g slide?

Are you people total knuckleheads or just totally miguided and misinformed
I have it on good authority ( as the person sitting next to me at the moment can attest, that Team Cyanogen does indeed have a froyo 2.2 like build out for the G1, soon to be available for the MT3GS....It has native tethering, native JIT, native apps2SD, and native froyo gmail, changes to the market and native FROYO 2.2 calendar and many other tasty goodies......without all of the junk of a sense UI, so put all these inferior and one step backwards builds on your nice new shiny phone (like putting retreads on a Lamborghini)and get your heads out of your know nothing asses, and wait 2 months top for (as they say on many pizza boxes, you've tried all the rest....now try the best) a MT3GS cyanogen build
As excited as I am about obsidian's post (/sarcasm), it has no relevance to this discussion.
I'm also missing some paid apps with this ROM. Specifically Pure Calendar Agenda widget. When I get some time this weekend I'm going to try out another ROM and see what happens.
That being said, looking on Google's support boards, it might not be a ROM specific problem, but could be account related.
That is good to know. If it's an account issue, are they working on a fix for it? I don't want to root my phone then not be able to see certain products in the market place.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Oh, I should be more specific. The threads I found on Google's boards were saying the problem seemed tied to Google accounts. But I've also seen some people say that changing ROMs has done it too. I'll flash something else tomorrow and check it out.
How about a list of apps that should not be installed by someone running CM7?
I already bricked my phone once by installing 2nd init on a modded phone.
I was running setvsel but just realised that that should not be run on CM7 phones.
Does anyone know if Juice defender is ok to run?
What else should not be installed?
Why not setvsel?, I have it running without any problem but you're right, I've realized that Cm7 has this feature built in, but I like the setvsel CPU meter
Also lol @ the 2nd unit install, cm already boots off of it

Hey y'all!
Phone runs damn fast now...2500 with 1.1Ghz /75. Even got as high as 2900 with 1.2ghz BUT... some simple improvements that can be made.
1) Lack of Task Manager that came with the stock 2.2.1 ROM which had auto-end feature. I installed Process Killer app, but maybe one out there that's better? It will kill apps at time intervals, but not prevent from opening again. For example Maps opens up A LOT without me running it (among several others). Eventually, this PK app uses 20% of battery to end these apps.
I tried to install 2.2.1 ROM task manager on CM7 and didn't work. maybe there's another method???
2) I miss the Swipe feature and stock keyboard. Anyway I can transfer these over? I forgot to back them up before CM7.
3) the dialer sucks. No speed dial and doesn't bring up contacts as you type them in the dialer
4) no battery saver mode. i had to download an app. forgot the name.
5) Wasn't connected to 3G at first, but found the answer here and simply is not faster than the stock 2.2.1 ROM. I was easily pulling well over 3Mbps downloads and not uncommon to get 4,5 and even 6mbps on Tmobile 3G. But on CM7 i barely get over 3, if I get there at all. Maybe Tmo throttled back my download speeds? I have been messing with the phone for 2 weeks trying to sort everything out.
Thanks!
1) Android system itself has good memory management, i.e, it automatically closes unwanted apps to free up memory if it really needs. Using task killer apps really do have much effect (at least nothing outright). So there's really no need to have one.
2) you can get swype here : http://beta.swype.com/
3) you can try 'go dialer' or any such dialer apps from market
4) Whats battery saver mode?
5) Have you changed the baseband to your region/provider?
1 & 3 Try the Go apps option,
GoLauncherEX gives a nice launcher very similar to ADW Launcher that comes with CM7 but does add a Running Tab to your app drawer if you wish to close apps down. Although this is not really needed, as mentioned above, Android shuts down apps not needed when needed.
GoDialer/GoContacts as a dialer replacement, themeable, good options, worth a try.
5 Look in the Apps for Defy Baseband and make sure you choose the one best for you. That might help with your 3G problem
Im no expert and still a bit of a novice but switching from Stock to CM7 was one of the best things I did so stick with it and CM7 will shine through
hey guys!
i was trying to figure out if there is any clean, fast rom (gingerbread) for the motorola defy!
i've tried the cm7 2.3.7 but it felt like there was something holding the phone back, plus battery was heating up like crazy.
quad score 2200
tried miui-looks fancy, like quite a few of the options they have like pop up message and the easy customization but not that great for me because theres no app drawer.
quad score 1990
used walter's ms2ginger,like it but not that much. its the fastest of all of these.
so now what i want to know is if theres a rom for the defy that would make me go gaga over my phone all over again!
quad score 1600
not sure if this is the right place for this so apologise my noob-ness
oh and since the defy+ is out, is there a way to get a nandroid of it to install on the older defy???? (since its the same thing except for the 1ghz processor clock speed) :S
Weird, I tried ms2ginger and it's more like a faster defy stock rom with the same random lags.
I haven't tried miui, but cm7 is faster than ms2ginger and (sure) stock rom and almost never lags. If you do not need call recording and you don't care about 720p recording/playback, cm7 is the best of them.
(720p playback in cm7 is not bad, just ms2ginger is better a little)
but the camera app on the ms2 ginger is the best! lol its so much nicer looking and functioning then the cm7! :O
Thanks guys! I actually have 2.3.7 CM7, not 2.3.5

4) I have battery defender app. I shuts off the antenna after 5 min when the screen goes off. It's very similar how T mobile motoblur was on the Defy. They allowed you to set the phone on 3 different performance levels. Now that I have some of the stuff sorted out, the phone will last 2 days no problems (avg/below avg use).
5) There are 3 choices for baseband. They are (not sure of the whole name) XXXX.4, xxxx.9 and 6.0. My phone only works on the xxxx.4 choice. However, one thing i do notice on CM7 is that an 'H' shows up by the bars, whereas 2.2.1 rom just said 3G. This is something that if I had known earlier I would have checked my phone before going to CM7.
Does the APN count for anything?? I did have to enter some values for that.

check your email settings if you set that up. Mine got real hot and battery drained like crazy because it was set to retrieve every 15 minutes and I was in a place with sh*tty reception. Put those 2 together and your battery won't last long. I set my email for every hour. I also don't have any social sites setup on the phone as I don't use them (T, FB). Also try battery defender app.
ive been kinda out of the rom flashing game for a bit.
but i just flashed prime 3d about a month ago and i've been finding my phone is rather slow, and the battery life is horrible.
so today i read about the ext4 mod, and tried that. my phone seems slightly faster than before as far as opening app drawer and getting into settings and little stuff, but.... my quadrant scores tanked my best is 1046.
with my previous rom i got up to 1700's. am i missing something? was i supposed to make a partition first before the ext4 mod thing?
should i not use setcpu or auto memory manager?
also, what is a good stable ROM that has full camera/camcorder(720p) and can be fast, or long battery life while tethering to my Transformer?
thanks for any info
I would try flashing the ext4 on a fresh rom install with a supported kernal. The 3.x roms are just battery hogs. I run Bugless Beast(aosp) Incredikernal with the ext4. My top quadrant was 2200-2300. I'm pretty sure 720p works but don't quote me on that. Wifi tether works fine.

i was also wondering about something else. a while back i flashed a kernel with some kind of opengl (or whatever the GPU software was) update, and since when the quadrant graphics 3d tests happen my screen is blank except for the DNA strand one? \
any clue on how to fix this?? i thought it was an incredikernal, but not sure
i switched to bugless and it feels faster after i did the supercharge v6 thing, but my quadrants are at 1100.
i remembered that when the screen was blank on quadrant i had flashed an incredikernal with gpu+, it was from 2010 and i think thats what my problem is

Try this
So this ROM has some purple in it, but you can use the UOT Kitchen to change what you don't like. I was in the habit of trying all the new ROMs that came out and was flashing all the time until I ran across this ROM. It is pretty much stock, but the battery life is incredible. From what I can tell Facebook for HTC Sense is not present, but with this ROM I have no reason to try the new ones that bog down the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372142
I am trying to flash my Inc with a new ROM for the first time, but it seems like more than half the ROMs on this page are either removed by the developer or cant be downloaded because the download links are dead.
Any tips on what to try first, based on what available still? The only thing I am concerned with is that the ROM is stable and compatible with as many of the stock functions as possible, stuff like broken radios is not what I am looking for right now. Would be kinda cool to try one as different from stock as possible. Does CM7 work well on the Inc? I keep seeing people talking about stuff that is broken with it.

Ice Cream Sandwich. Abduction by Hanger84 is smoother than the Sense ROMs.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
Abduction is good to try if you want to experice ice cream.... but prepare for some bugs and missing features ( ie Camcorder, camera, & flash on websites and netflix) I suggest one of the gingerbread Roms or Froyo Roms. CM 7 or 8 should be fine, but you loose some of the things you may be accustomed to in Sense (Widgets). But there are pretty good apps that can do what sense does, you just have to look for them.
I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 (RC2 crashes right away for me) with latest ICS Incredikernal and SmartassV2 governor, fully over-clocked. Never crashes, everything works but, of course, 720p recording. I even found decent settings for auto-brightness (Make about 16 levels, start out at ~70, go up in ~5 point increments, then increase. Set Window Length to 5 secs). I have tried three ICS roms but always went back.
I'm using the new Go Launcher but it has a couple of bugs. Clear its data to get the large icons if you are stuck on small. To change settings on the large weather clock you have to do it via the small weather clock.
I use CyanogenMod 7.2. Along with Chad/Tiny's Incredikernel, Jermaine/Tiny's EXT4All mod, and Launcher Pro. Speedy and battery efficient. The latest RC should be fine, I'm on one of the nightlies and have been using Pons' KANGs when his computer was still working.
In addition to Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme.
If you like the stock ROM, and want something stable and based off of it, Liberation 3.0 is a good choice. It is basically a rooted, debloated, stock ROM. I keep a copy on my SD card incase I need access to EPST or just feel like using Sense.
ICS is getting there, but the laggy animations and general speed have kept me away. It seems to me that the current hardware acceleration isn't 100% implemented. But I have never used ICS outside of the Incredible. So I don't have room to compare.
I'm with the majority here. CM 7.2 RC2 is great. I actually have stock kernel though, I am not sure if performance is better with incredikernel but I can tell you that CM7 is TONS better than stock in terms of battery life, customization, and overall android experience. I like sense but on the Inc, it's like they stopped trying...
P.S. - I also use GO Launcher EX with kovdev's ICS theme.
Well I just switched from Abduction to CM9 and so far CM9 is much better!!

See if Youtube works. Didn't for me. I ended up using the Go Launcher anyway so the experience was the same for me. There weren't as many stock apps like Car Home and the music widget is not the big one. Things like Phone and Calculator open slowly. Never did crash tho or even lag.

I use a app called play on for YouTube Netflix and a lot of other video sites.. yea the camera fix seems to break playback on YouTube.. but I'm optimistic that those issues will be worked out since cm9 is still in development. What I love is that every feature u find in other Asop roms u can get apps that do that... so u can customize it better for your own personal taste and still have better stability!!!!!

Ok before I started getting replies here I dl'd Touch of Blue and Stock+, tried ToB for the week and it was ok but started to crash and lag a lot. The latter may have been due to my SetCPU settings, I dunno, but it was getting hung up on simple apps, and I did not like a couple things about it, like getting calls when the screen is off required you to unlock it, then unlock it again at the receiving call screen. Also didnt like the battery meter.
Just installed Stock+ and immediately realized it wouldn't work at all when I saw that the App Data partition was still at 150MB. Thats the whole reason I rooted, so there is no way I am using a ROM that is eventually gonna give me the Low space messages again.
GOnna try the ones you guys suggested now
I like Wildstangs stock ROM, and gtiny's kernel. I used root app delete to debloat it. And run the on demand deadline settings and can go 11 hours on a full charge with heavy use.
I also like the last stable release of CM7.1.0 it is smoking fast and way less issues then the nightlies or kangs to me.

CM7.2 couldn't figure out how to add my Google account. Also couldnt disable the camera shutter sound.
Tried Liberation but the App Data partition is still only 150MB; as soon as I restore my apps its gonna be out of space again.
ALL ROMs for the Incredible are going to have a 150 MB data/data partition. It's the way HTC made it. The only way around it is with the EXT4All mod. More information here. The file you're looking for to remove the limit is "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip".
And there is an options in the CM7 sound settings to disable the shutter sound. Called "Mute camera shutter".
Ok I found the camera sound setting, thanks. Any advice on getting the Google account to work? The Account settings were trying to setup an email thing, not my Google account
EDIT:
Figured out that I need to flash the Google apps pack on CM7 to get that all to work, but ClockworkMod kept failing to mount the pack when I tried to install it. Now I am back on Liberation, because at least here I have my Google account with contacts, but I cannot get the EXT4 fix to work. I download it, open it with Clockwork, tell it to reboot and apply, but it fails to mount it, just like the Google apps pack problem. Using Clockwork 5.0.2.0
