SAMSUNG WAVE capable of USB HOSTING - Bada Software and Hacking General

hey guys found a good intresting news..
samsung wave (senior wave) hardware is capable of usb hosting at full speed of 12mbps.
check this out.
pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2247&view=1&c=samsung_gt-s8500_wave_2gb
But unfortunately this feature is not available in bada.
hope future bada or android port enables us to use usb hosting.

Didn't knew flash is also EEPROM.
Wondering who said them that it has got USB Host mode, so far we can be sure that it has got hardware support for USB OTG.

Also nice to see that a 8GB version of the wave was planned but never reached the customer. But there muste be some some prototypes of it (found an early review of the 8GB wave somewhere).

That is so cool! In Samsung galaxy SL, android supports the OTG,but, the phone doesn't..and here, it is vice-verse!

PSP 290 with WM devices?

All,
I have a PSP and toying with the idea of getting the PSP 290 GPS receiver http://gpstekreviews.com/2007/03/20/sony-gps-receiver-psp-290-for-play-station-portable-psp-review/ which is mini-USB interface.
I was wondering if there was at some point any hope of making it work with a WM6 Smartphone device and whatever SW running on it and make double use of the same device
First issue may in fact come from the physical connectivity since it is designed to fit nicely in the PSP and therefore has 2 little "prongs" which may cause problem when trying to fit inside my S710.
Comments are welcome!
Thanks
only 2 or 3 of the htc devices support usb host which is required
for a pda to use other usb devices

Do you think there will ever be a dock like this for the droid X or a mod To have the Droid X work with the Atrix because the phones are a little similar i guess 0.0?

nah.. but
Probably not, BUT; theres still "some" hope.. i think its totally doable, and sooner or later, someone is gonna develop an app or a rom capable of.. or a combination of the two; that'll allow us to use the HDMI port as a video output...
Id be happy with that.
There was once an app, but got cancelled by the developer.

In my experience, realhdmi is far from a perfect solution. But so far it is the best solution.

The concept seems simple, but I have no idea how difficult the implementation would be.
Use the HDMI as video out (it looks fine when I plug my Coby Kyros into my TV, seems a phone would be the same / better). Use the USB as a mouse - I know that Android is designed for touch screen, but I thought you could use a mouse for it.
Anyway, the concept seems simple, but perhaps my concept oversimplifies the matter.
If a 3rd party vendor could make a device independent dock, and price it reasonably, I think it would sell like hotcakes. At least, the same people that would buy the Coby (like me) to root it and do what they want with it would buy a 3rd party dock and use it with their phones.
My wife, who doesn't overly love technology, loved her driod when I finally conviced her to get it. If she could get a dock for it, she would likely never use her laptop.
A device specific dock seems ... ridiculous, for an open source platform.
I upgraded my Coby Kyros last night to Gingerbread - 2.3.1 using tipster's work over at (kyros-tablet-zone.team-talk.net).
I also did some research on the different Android offerings / versions.
Starting with 3.1, whose features were imported in 2.3.4, mice and other devices can now be attached via the USB cable.
After reading the snippet from the Android dev platform highlihts This seems good and bad in the quest for a generic dock. It looks like USB support may be app specific, and also may have hardware requirements (i.e. to use a dock, your phone may need to have some requirment for it.). I've pasted the snippet from the dev platfrom notes below.
(I'm still too new to post links)
developer.android.com/sdk/android-3.1-highlights.html
Connectivity for USB accessories
Android 3.1 adds broad platform support for a variety of USB-connected peripherals and accessories. Users can attach many types of input devices (keyboards, mice, game controllers) and digital cameras. Applications can build on the platform’s USB support to extend connectivity to almost any type of USB device.
The platform also adds new support for USB accessories — external hardware devices designed to attach to Android-powered devices as USB hosts. When an accessory is attached, the framework will look for a corresponding application and offer to launch it for the user. The accessory can also present a URL to the user, for downloading an appropriate application if one is not already installed. Users can interact with the application to control powered accessories such as robotics controllers; docking stations; diagnostic and musical equipment; kiosks; card readers; and much more.
The platform’s USB capabilities rely on components in device hardware, so support for USB on specific devices may vary and is determined by device manufacturers."

[Advice]Buy wave or not?

My older thread didn't help me much and this might help me more because now, i'm going to buy a phone within this week but i'm thinking of buying Wave, because of it's 1 ghz cortex a8 processor and GPu PowerVR sgx 540 which is proven to be the fastest among single core processors (not including tegra). To be hoenst, PowerVR sgx 540 performs just like tegra 2 GPU and is more or less the same GPU used in iphone 4.
Question is, which one to buy? keeping in mind that android is comming to wave sooner or later, what do you guys say? do you think android would work on wave (dual boot) so that the bada OS is also secured. Now my options are:
-LG optimus one (around 170$)(wifi is b/g only)
-Samsung wave (Around 299$)
-Samsung galaxy ace (349$)
-Samsung galaxy mini (around 179$)
These are the only phones i want to choose from because others are either expensive or useless (not android). I don't think that galaxy ace would be a very good choice despite the fact that it has no flash support (decreases 50% surfing on internet). About wave is that, bada sucks for now as there aren't cool widgets, apps available. About Optimus One, it is cheap, which is a good thing but the pixels are way too low and it runs a 600mhz processor which cannot run at least 50% of the good games without lag.
Now i can only trust you guys to help me as this will allow me to choose my phone and i really want some good suggestions. Thanks a lot in advance

It's too bad that there's no Q & A section for bada or i could've made a thread there :/

If you wish Android on Wave (II) you need to wait... long, loooonger, very loooooooooooooooong.
So the answer is later. Much later.
If you can't wait. Then your first choice should be an Android handset.
And yes, sorry. Its very hard to answer as normally we are in Software&Hacking section of XDA...
And this is your second try and buy Thread.

Thanks for your reply, also the project you're working on, does it apply to wave II as well or only for Wave?
Android project is at very very early stadium.
Pre pre Alpha... and oleg_k is the only person who have seen Android on his Wave. NO ONE else.
I have no idea when second person can confirm running Android on Wave.
oleg_k uses additional Hardware called JTAG.
Costs around 200 Euro... see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898996
We all have to wait. Maybe weeks, maybe months...
Best Regards
Currently all android ports being worked on are for wave I. So if you are buying waveII, you will have to wait much longer.
Now on your opinion to buy a handset,
1)Do not buy wave in the hope of getting android in it later or sooner. We don't know all the problems we might face after loading android onto our phones. So if you want Android, go for galaxy ace.
2)Bada has a scope of improvement and you can see its progres by taking a look at the app store. Every week some new good games are coming, either ports or original stuff. Now Bada has apps like Fruit Ninja, Plants vs. Zombies, Doodle Jump and many other games which people were longing to see on the samsung app store. Eventually, more apps will arrive. But don't buy Wave if your only interest is apps and widgets. If you can give bada some time, then you can go on to buy the wave.
3)And if you are looking for a rock solid hardware, go for Wave! Wave's hardware can't be matched by any other single core phones for now. The wave in fact has a better gpu than Iphone 4. So Wave is the best bet for your budget. Also the screen quality and Multimedia experience is really amazing. Also its out of the box ability to play almost all of the video formats including Divx HD and Xvid along with subtitles will make you want to buy the Wave. Remember that currently Bada has few problems in properly utilizing the RAM. So you might get memory errors sometimes even though it has more than 512 MB of ram on it. I don't know if the memory issues have been solved on Wave II or not but atleast Wave currently faces this problem.
So now you are left to your choice. My personal recommendation is the Wave! I am saying this after using an Iphone 4(Which got stolen ), an HTC Desire and now my beloved Wave!
My opinion is go with wave because it has wonderful design and no other samsung phones has better design like wave. also bada 2.0 looks more promising..
Maybe we can get android on wave within weeks but it will be pre alpha version and you cant expect all functionalities work and maybe few functionalities will never work.
Multimedia side wave rocks. but if you interested in apps then go for android device..Now your choice
scout for a dual processor
Got Wave II for some days. The biggest problem is lack of apps for bada, which is semi rapidly fixed, samsung is spending alot of cash into its development, so it is getting better month by month (comparing bada 1.0 to 1.2 for eg.).
It has got very powerful CPU and GPU, but haven't seen yet a game that uses more than like 30% of its power, but if you don't mind about games and weird apps like remote sattelite controllers which for sure can be found for Android. If you only want to have smoothly running device with some gadgets - I do recommend it.

As far as I know Wave II is the same hardware as Wave I, except the LCD display. So port for Wave I = port for Wave II with abit different LCD driver.

The hardware might seem equal from outside but there are many internal differences. The main feature still remain the same. If wave II = wave I, then 1.2 update would be available to wave I users as soon as wave II was released. But that is not the case. Wave II use different boot loaders and firmware files. So please read through the forum before to get more info.

I have not seen a firmware for the small waves out there which contains 2.0.

so we must wait until september? 1 september?
Maybe you can give you self an answer...
If latest S5780 bada handset has only bada 1.1, it is also based on Broadcom Hardware/Software like the other family of light:
S5250
S5330
S5750
S7230
How big is the chance in near future to update to 1.2... or bada 2.0...
Btw... bada 2.0 is NOT finished.
Firmware nor bada 2.0 SDK is ready for Release in near future...
so we must wait until september? 1 september?

Maybe 31 September... then only first for big bada handsets or new incoming models...
Maybe I am wrong... maybe you have more luck...
But at this time I have not seen any 1.2 Firmware for light bada handsets...
Only Samsung knows why...

man samsung is poop becouse they focuse on android and all high performance phones!
BADA 2 is targeted at the US Market
BADA 1 and 1.2 were only dry runs even the samsung apps store was a dry run
so that every bug or unforeseen obstacle can be ironed out before they launch the American US store.
Remember that Samsung doenst have an American Apps store yet.
I think they knew that bada 1.2's stupid limitations like limited text, contacts
and apps menu would be show killers so they worked on BADA 2 before they
make their entry into America and battle with iOS, Android, WP7, WEbOS,
and RIM.
Its the reason why american developers werent interested in BADA since there is no american store in samsung apps.
BUT now that samsung is going to launch a midend BADA2 phone with NFC in America with a HI END Bada phone to follow, there are going to be interesting changes at Samsung.
So when they did announce that BADA 2 will go to all their devices,
the hi ends will have it first with the mid ends getting it much much later.
All this will happen starting with the American BADA nfc phone launch.
I saw in youtube bada 2.0 in a phone.that person said that finally bada 2.0 is here

Samsung produced hundrets of Qualcomm BREW handsets for US market... since many years.
So bada App Store is not mandatory...
Remember... european users missing since 2006 (2001) BREW apps in Europe for there BREW handsets...
bada is NOT for US market as main target...
I have no idea, if maybe Qualcomm were not interested in support bada store...
remember S8500/S8530 is Qualcomm based...
Then Apple...
In theory could US BREW Developer also develop for bada store for european users...
C++
Anyway. For me it is FIRST Store in 2010 for my S8500.
All my BREW handsets from 2006 are unsupported... no BREW Apps.

Actually its ARM based
Qualcomm is owned by Samsung but is a separate company from the Mobile Division. Its also just one of the ARM licensees and qualcomm has its own snapdragon chipset using the adreno gpu.
This is why the hummingbird used in the Galaxy S/ Wave 8500/8530 is designed by Samsung and not Qualcomm itself.
Same case for the exynos chipset in the Galaxy S2 which uses a mali400 gpu.
Designed by samsung but not by qualcomm.
This is also why Samsung's mobile division also uses the Tegra chipset etc
Samsung's mobile division doesnt have to use qualcomm exclusively since they are a separate company and Qualcomm has to submit bids just like other suppliers if they wish to get the mobile division's business.
Its the way Samsung has run its companies for years already to stimulate
competition between its subsidiaries.
Still all the chipsets in it's mobiles like tablets and cellphones are all based on ARM.
Samsung is going to push BADA on the American market if not late this year,
its going to be early next year.
The wave 725 with NFC and Bada 2 is its midend phone for the american market.
These two links below even try to gauge how BADA will fare in the somewhat crowded American Market.
Asides from these two links below other sites have mentioned that the wave 725
will be launched in America simultaneously with other countries.

quote:
Bada may not be that significant in America, although it has completed surprisingly well for itself in Europe, and it might be attention-grabbing to see how the American market will receive the OS, especially for the explanation that US smartphone market is presently dominated by Android and iOS, although that may change with Bada 2.0 OS, or at least that’s what Samsung hopes.
unquote
look at this https://www.facebook.com/pages/BADA-OS-FORUM/134602219952258
''Guys using wave 525 , 533 don't need to worry about release of bada 2.0.1 for these mobiles because we will be able to port the Bada 2.0.1 firmware of Wave 578 in the old devices ... we hope Bada 2.0.1 for Wave 578 will release soon ..and we will provide u with all the download links and files ..''
i know this is not an official bada facebook page but this was made by inside developers!
And no further info since...

Is it okay to post a review of the HP Pavilion eh1070wm laptop

Recently purchased a hp pavilion eh1070wm laptop from Walmart as it was on sale for 599$ and needed a upgrade my 2011 MacBook Pro well technically mid 2010 but was manufactured in early 2011. The hp has as base 8gb of ram but can be upgraded to 32gb of ddr 4 3200mhz and can actually handle a 2tb Samsung evo 970 nvme drive as I thought with that capacity and faster speeds vs original that it would overheat apparently not which I’m glad it can handle it just fine so far. Went from 512gb to 2tb and ram upgrade as mentioned before . Well if I’m allowed since there’s barely any reviews for it out in the wild I will do one if this gets enough votes, and people wanting me to do so. Forgot to mention it has a AMD Ryzen 5700u with boost clock up to 4.2 ghz though base is 1.8. Hopefully this helps someone wondering about this model. Geekbench 5 scores and how it looks are in the attached images. If anyone wants a review of this laptop be free to let me know if I’m in the green to proceed
Robot or human?
One more thing this laptop can run Linux but a few caveats. For the Wi-Fi you need a Linux kernel module driver for the rtl card which I’m on my phone, so tomorrow I will tell you guys which card it has. Hopefully the next Linux kernel release adds this card for support if not no real big deal at least for me. Also it states it comes with a intel wireless card if you look up the laptop model on hps site, but if your like me and bought from Walmart new than you may get the Realtek version. One more thing it does indeed come with windows 11 not 10 as it stated, but your shipment may come with 10 and the intel wireless card so
Also for those that may have this laptop, look here for help In getting Linux running as someone on GitHub and Reddit that has a Lenovo laptop with similar specs got it working but needed to do a few things but it’s possible at least. It’s a wonderful windows 11/10 business laptop out of the box. Also it can do some light gaming like forza 5 at medium and a setting or two at high with about 33-40 fps at 1080p and halo master chief collection with all halo games so far on normal with 45-60 fps. I’m gonna stop as I basically did a mini review.

Hi! I'm thinking of upgrading my laptop and this model caught my attention because of the technical specifications. I have a question, how is the battery life? I'm going to give it heavy use for development (nodejs and javascript) under Ubuntu 20.04. You recommend me ?

I would suggest running latest the Linux kernel on which ever distro you decide to run. I Found latest ubuntu 20.04 lts works well with Kde plasma haven't tested other distros but one thing to consider is that the Wifi Chipset is a RTL8852AE Wifi 6. Some others come with the intel one I just got a bit unlucky but after looking for the kernel module for this and researching I found as long as you do tethering to the laptop from a phone or connect a WIFI dongle temporarily that's all ready in the kernel and follow the instructions the internal wifi will work. Everything else Audio, Usb C, Trackpad, Keyboard, Web Cam thought only 720p but hardware fault, and etc works out of the box at least. Heres the wifi driver.

Battery life on power saver or balanced CPU governor is about 4 to 5 hours depending on use. If you decide to go for performance than battery life is more like 2 to 3 with heavy use. I mainly bought this laptop as a desktop replacement which works great for me because the Usb C does HDMI and I have the laptop screen so I have a total of 3 screens when needed and the Cpu, Apu, and Memory for great performance comparable to the Ryzen 7 5700G but more like the AMD Ryzen 5 3600G which is perfect for me when it comes to compiling and such. I usually use this laptop plugged in with my monitor setup except when I need to go somewhere which these days and remote work is usually never especially with Covid. Some point I plan to organize this thread or create one for reviewing this Laptop. Depending on what people want I will probably just keep this as is and change the title/heading to HP Pavilion EH1070WM Laptop review. Also sorry its been a month I have been busy lately with online college along side with work.
