[Q] Netflix question = new so can't ask in Dev. section - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, please don't tell me to post this in development, I'm new and don't have a high enough post count to do so. I understand Netflix doesn't work for the leaked stock GB for the G2, and that there is a patch that will fix this. My issue is I don't know how to apply the patch? Like I said, I'm new to this stuff so if somebody could kindly give me a basic "how to apply the netflix patch" instruction I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm not aware of any flashable patch however, I do know that Netflix works on any CM7 nightly after #76; also, I think the issue with the leaked GB build for the G2 was a device check (Netflix isn't "supposed" to work on a G2 running GB because the G2 "technically" doesn't have GB) but, the latest version of the Netflix app removed the device check so, I'd give that a shot first.

First off, this post is right where it should be - the Q&A section. The Dev section isn't for things like this, question = Q&A.
Anyway, the patch is applied through recovery. You flash it just like a ROM. Simple as that.

My question is..why does the netflix app suck so bad? So choppy its pointless trying to watch movies with or without overclock..

That's a CM issue, not the app itself. Netflix works just fine with no chop on the stock Desire Z ROM.

I'm on nightly 90 and I have acceptable (not great, but watchable) playback. slim your build down a bit, try a different oc governor, etc... you can get it to play pretty well.

unless something has changed, that update actually did not fix playback for those of us on custom roms that are having Netflix troubles. sadly.

Gingerbread on rooted phone

Ok dumb question but how would you go about upgrading to gingerbread on a rooted phone?! I can't seem to find the answer anywhere & I'm scared when the time comes I won't know how.

I assume you haven't rooted?
You'd have to flash (install) a ROM that's based off of Gingerbread. Right now, there are only two or three of those
I have rooted & flashed myns warm. that's what I'm worried about..or my question I guess. How would I get gingerbread on my rooted phone.

Like would I update through Sprint or is it something I have to do manually?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Manually or wait until they push it out officially.
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
At the moment you would have to do it manually. As far a I am aware the few roms that are available are not yet completely stable, and not all the features are working. Cyanogen is working on CM7/gingerbread, but has not released a build. Sounds like they're getting close though, as he tweeted he's using it as his daily driver.

there are 3 Gingerbread ROMs in the Android Development forum thus far. They're all in Alpha or early Beta forms currently, and for most people are not stable or feature-full enough to be daily users.
If you're new to rooting I'd shy away from flashing experimental Alpha builds unless you're ready for some troubleshooting. It might be in your best interest to wait until they are more general public ready.
If you are interested, here are the links to the 3 I'm aware of:
Comes tweaked so far. Not really stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878020
Pretty much stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877653
Pretty much stock as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881557
I've personally used the 2nd and 3rd. Both worked for me but not without some issues for sure.
Oh and no matter what, get very familiar with recovery and NAND BACKUPS (nandroid). Especially when trying these alpha roms, get used to backing up your working roms and restoring them.
Everyone is so helpful but I'm not trying to do anything with my phone until it's officialy released. I just don't know how being rooted effects updating. I don't know if I'm wording this correctly...lol sorry
what my friend is trying to tell you sinse you are rooted you have to wait untill a rom w/ gingerbread on it which he provided some for you. and if you apply it manually you may be un-rooted then until unrevoke or others can break it .
Hi all
anyone know of a fully woking gingerbread rom at this point?

CM7 is the closest. Was using as a daily driver until yesterday to run Z3. Everything but 4g, which no GB rom has.
Check out the cyanogen forums for the latest nightly builds, and the CM7 thread in the general section for any Q's or info.

[Q] [REQ][APP] Crackle Movies & TV app

I know for fact that it works on the Sprint Epic 4G, even though the Market says it doesn't, cause I just had it until Sprint and looks like Tmo and Verizon decided that we should have to pay for it. So if anyone know a way to get the .apk, it just seem F'upped that we have to pay for a free service!?
Wow I used to have this and didn't redownload it at some point i guess. You are right that it is off the market now though.
I downloaded and I keep get shows with sample durations and messed up audio. The audio was a one time thing.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Someone with a supported device needs to rip the apk for us. I would like to try it out.
I wonder if someone running CM7 can search the market and pull the apk, looks like if its a sprint branded they block it.
You should try a different forum, and post back with any findings.

Rom supporting video out for DINC??

I have to demo an app that i made at my office's next board meeting via video out. The problem is i have Cyanogenmod7. Does anyone know of a rom for the DINC that supports video out other than the stock rom that originally came with my phone?
Search the ROM list in this thread. I'm sure you will come across one that supports it.

The gingerbread ota or dhd Ports are the way to go.

[Q] "Delta" updates for apps on JB?

I remember reading some info when JellyBean was released, and it said that the app updates from the Play Store were only supposed to be the changes instead of the whole app. Where is that feature? Is it not included in AOSP?

I looked at the thread, and most people were having issues with the modded playstore. Maybe Google hasn't worked it out yet?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
didn't have issues myself. I know its working for me for sure since a 15mb app updates in less than a minute with sprints crap 3g, well the download part the install process is a little longer than it used to be. justinbean gapps might have a newer modded playstore in it I think I read... try that one out maybe. could be just googles issue as you said but hopefully not. good luck with this

Its definitely speedy and Ill know more what Id like better on my G3 once this is a fully functioning rom. BUT, the way I have my G3 tweaked now with tweak box and other xposed modules, Im not sure Id like going CM11.

I'll have another one tomorrow or possibly tonight I'll reopen this thread.. Still buggy but phone data WiFi and headphones work .. Still no external sound tho...
Need some donations so I can pay off the wife and have more time to work on this beast..
Although I only spent a little time with the build, I just wanted to give a huge props to the devs that help put this beast together. The fact that it is still alpha but flies like there is no tomorrow is awesome. I thought I got rid of the little lag that came with mine but that second that it takes to open an app sometimes completely disappears. Open anything, close anything, nothing close to stuttering. Fluid.
At any rate, don't have the funds to donate, but wanted to throw out a huge thanks anyways. Makes the wait worth it. Take your time finishing it up, making even better.
