HTC DHD gingerbread update related queries. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently got an OTA update for gingerbread in HTC desire HD.
The problem is.
1) as I heard, gingerbread give way better battery optimization compared to froyo, but I find no difference. Still I find my DHD consuming a lot of energy and Atleast is comes to 30 by end of the day.
2) as my phone is not rooted. Where can I find .apk skins and sense for my DHD.
3) My lockscreen is the same what I had in froyo. Gingerbread has a new one. How can I change it.
4) And my keyboard is also the same as before. I m not able to locate the default gingerbread keyboard.
5) The UI is pretty much the same what I had in froyo. Does that mean I m still using froyo though I find my software version as 2.3.3 gingerbread.

1) Try not keeping Wifi & 3G on, for me those have been using lots of power even when im not using them
2) HTC Hub or here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048894
3) Because the DHD has Sense it has the HTC lockscreen, im pretty sure you can install the stock lockscreen though.
4) Again, since it's Sense you are given HTC's keyboard, but if you search around you can find an apk of the stock gingerbread keyboard (i've seen it in the marketplace)
5) The UI is still HTC Sense 2.1, but yes it's Gingerbread. It just doesn't look like stock gingerbread does (green battery logo, menus, etc)

Thanks Sromer. That almost answered all my doubts.

[Q] Are the HD sense roms slower than the normal Sense roms?

Greetings XDA members,
I bought a desire 3 weeks ago and so far I am really satisfied with it.
After exploring this site, I learned that it is possible to load the new sense on the desire. With the camera working, it becomes even more attractive.
My question is: are the HD sense roms slower than the normal sense roms?
Because this is one thing I really want: a speedy phone (no lag when browsing menus, homescreens, etc...). Is it possible to compare a quadrant score?
I now run stock unrooted 2.2 froyo.
Thanx!
im actually experiencing WAY faster response, the original sense had some lag, the HD does not. but this is my experience.
I Switched from Modaco R9 to RCmixHD yesterday as the Camera fix came out.
My Experience ist that the HD ROM is much faster and more responsive.
Quadrant is about 1650 +-50 points.
The first boot of RCmixHD takes a very long time, but after that it runs like hell!
Yep, HD ROM is noticeably quicker than stock Sense
good ROM, stable, quick, no lag for the moment.
1st boot really long.
Yep, new-Sense seems faster to me despite all the pretty animations. Quadrant confirms this, despite the fact that I'm using the same richardtrip kernel as I was with Auraxt.

I have the same quadrant score running aurax so thats not a score. I've been trying RCMixHD but came back to stock sense.. nothing special for now. When the new sense officially appear for desire it will be much more new custom, better roms.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
But the non-HD ROMs are all tweaked up to hell to get them quick. I get 1700+ with NO tweaks made to the ROM and on the stock kernel that it comes with. If I was to play with UVOC and the like we could be over 2000
Nice, i'll try it again if the camera fully work.

Which way to root?
okay, thanks for the quick replies. I'm pretty sure the HD rom is better than what I have now
Second question: What is the best way to root my phone because I find dozens of methods to do it and some say it won't work on 2.2 etc?
I had 2.2 when I bought the phone.
software-number: 2.10.405.2
H-boot: 0.93
Can I use unrevoked 3.21? Or is that not possible because I already have 2.2?
Thank you again for the help!
As I remember you have to downgrade your hboot and then try unrevorked. Best and easy.

Just try Unrevoked without downgrading something, it will work
Don't forget to install the modded USB-Drivers...
You don't need to downgrade just run unrevoked and it will work.
after reading HD rom is faster than stock rom, i would love to flash it on my desire....i have a rooted desire running Leedroid 2.2f, what version of HD rom do you suggest ? also how do i back up everything except the system apps etc ? the leedroid i flashed was after i rooted my desire for the first time and i am a newbie at flashing, rooting etc
And my last question...
okay thanks, I just don't want to brick my phone. That's the reason for all my questions...
last question: Today I use HTC Sync to sync playlists with itunes and contacts and agenda with outlook. I now you have to uninstall HTC Sync to perform the rooting and flashing. But can you use it afterwards to sync all that info and media?
Thank you!
I found it is much faster since using the HD rom has anyone signed up to the htcsense.com service? Or are you leaving it incase the desire officially gets the new sense.
i think there faster then ne most sense roms. some of the HD Sense Rom´s are slowly but most of them are fast
You have to uninstall HTC Sync before rooting!
After u can reinstall it again!
Some things in the HD ROMs are definately slower (even if only some) .. for example one important thing: pulling out the notification area lags a bit if you didn't do it for a while. Might sound minor bit annoyed me after some time...
Ge...ta...ta...tapatalked mit meinem Desire
Firstly, Quadrant and such I ignore and they mean nothing to me. Actual usage dictates.
Desire HD Sense is faster/smoother/more responsive overall. It's also more polished up in many areas. I've noticed the speed with certain apps (camera/those using camera) and the browser. I'm saying this with over 20 constantly sync'ing, chunky widgets on the screens which made the HTC Desire 2.2 Sense lag. Especially Pure Messenger.
The only semi-bug I have is network band switching causing a high amount of lag when it occurs. Pretty much everything freezes up for a few seconds at those moments while I don't get that on the typical HTC 2.2 ROM. This still may not be ROM related though.
I sincerely think anyone comfortable with stock 2.2 or a tweaked version of it will love the HD ROM once they've tried it. My experience is only with RCMixHD to make it clear.

[Q] Gingerbread with HTC Sense?

Hello!
I'm currently running Oxygen's excellent Gingerbread 2.0 RC6 on my Desire. It's been fine, although I notice many of the visual enhancements don't currently work - like screen on/off animation etc. I also get the Oxygen loading screen hang frequently.
Now, I can put up with these things IF there is a way to get the Sense UI onto the device while running Gingerbread... I have no idea if this is even possible or not!
Can someone please advise? Is there a launcher ROM that can be flashed over the top of Gingerbread that will give me the Sense UI goodies while giving me the other benefits of GB? Or am I limited to waiting for a modified Sense-based 2.3 ROM rather than an AOSP one such as Oxygen?
Appreciate you advice and input

Totally agree. I had the updated oxygen ROM and missed some of the sense features. COME ON HTC give us gingerbread with sense 2!!
Get the full version of launcherpro which has sense style Widgets for your homescreens. Then get the sense theme for the launcherbar at the bottom of the screen. Looks exactly the same without having to flash a sense rom.

They said so, but is is reasonable to assume that DesireHD and Desire Z get it first, then we are next.
That however could take a lot of time, I read something about September at the earliest.
Someone correct me please if I'm wrong.
Desire Gingerbread is coming around June time. No specifics as to whether DesireHD and Z get it first but it says they are all on the same schedule as the Incredible S whereas Desire S and Wildfire S will ship with 2.3
source: engadget.com/2011/02/27/htc-incredible-s-desire-hd-desire-z-and-original-desire-will-a/
That could take a while, which is why some of us are installing Gingerbread Roms in the 1st place
Probably will especially if you have to wait for your relevant carrier to tinker with it first. That's why I flashed custom. May go to official HTC rom if/ when this is leaked just depends how slow it is compared to CM 7 unless of course it has sense 2 (crosses fingers)
I'm running CM7 RC1 with Honeycomb Alva v4 theme with ADW EX and I'm loving the look of honeycomb. I hope the brilliant devs that works hard for our free roms can work their magic on the SDK. I wish I could do it, I'm going to start reading up on it nut I never have time so I'd be a cack dev lol. but I must say I'm looking forward to seeing sense on a gingerbread rom!!!

No HTC sense 2.1 (and 2.0) for HTC Desire

It's confirmed by Frandroid (FRENCH SITE):
No updates for older HTC smartphones
We have just had confirmation from a representative from HTC, former Sense HTC smartphones (HTC Desire Desire Desire Z and HD) will not have access to the new HTC Sense (2.1).
HTC prefers to focus on new phones in the words of the Taiwanese brand. As a reminder, HTC Sense is the custom interface from HTC that includes many features missing from the interface "pure" Android.
Nevertheless, news of Gingerbread are mostly irrelevant for smartphones HTC Sense. As a reminder, Gingerbread brings a new keyboard, a different interface, the NFC ... a lot of features built into HTC Sense.
Update: Do not confuse the version of Android (Android 2.1, 2.2, 2.3.2, etc.) and versions of HTC Sense (1.5 with Desire Desire 2.0 on HD and Z, and 2.1 on the new ones) .
This is the orignal link:
http://www.frandroid.com/60377/pas-de-mises-a-jour-pour-les-anciens-smartphones-htc/
And the google traduction:
http://translate.google.fr/translat...ises-a-jour-pour-les-anciens-smartphones-htc/
It's not what I understood from:
http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/htc...t-for-android-23-gingerbread-update-50002752/
If they are going to update to 2.3 it doesn't make much sense not to put a new version of sense on the top otherwise they will have so many different threads going off...
It's the 2.1 sense interface and not the 2.3 gingerbread update. Those features are (according to http://androidspin.com/2010/09/15/htc-announces-htcsense-com/)
Locate your device by remotely calling your phone which will allow your device to ring even if previously set on silent
If your device ever becomes lost or stolen, HTC will offer a remote lock and wipe feature
Backup your devices’ contacts, text messages, call history, data and even customization
Share and edit multimedia content shot from your phone
Using your computer, you can send messages to your lockscreen
In 2.1 you can alose add a quick button setting (and 2 or 3 others features)
What I mean is why would they push out a Gingerbread update without Sense?
If they push out a Gingerbread update it'd have to be either;
1) gingerbread no sense
2) gingerbread with old sense
3) gingerbread with new sense
if it has old sense surely it means the HTC devs will have double the amount of work to do to make sure its compatible - when DHD/DS etc. will all have similar/same hardware and different UI to manage and maintain...
Of course we'll get the new Sense if we're getting 2.4 on the Desire - be a pointless update otherwise

According to them, it will be choice 2, maybe because they want to do the same strategy than Apple: new phones have new things, older one will not have them, even if it's possible.
Hopefully http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-huashan-gingerbread-dump-with-sense/ will bring a nice new rom with Gingerbread and sense to our lives sometime soon...
A lot of work would be needed but you never know, might be soon
I personally prefer to wait for a Desire S dump but we'll see
EDIT: Taking a look at the files now, see what I can do with it
Quick look...
- No HTC apps and it has the Lanucher2.apk so no idea what going on there (EDIT: It has some HTC apps but no widgets)
- It does have the HTC wallpapers/bootanimation files, etc
- Wouldn't know where to begin to port it over so don't ask!
sounds a bit fishy?
Oh well
It's a test build so probably not complete but I'd like to see a video of it running before doing anything with it. Im sure someone will release something at some point

Think it's more likely to be option 4) gingerbread with updated (old) sense same as they did with wm update the core and slap a newer upgraded sense over the top but still not the same sense as the newer phones.

there was already a report on that - they said it should come out around 3 months after the Desire S .... and basically said that could be any time between May and September
Wouldn't Desire HD still be superior to Desire S? It makes no sense to me to put new Sense into technically inferior device.

It's already been confirmed that the Desire, Desire Z and the Desire HD will all be receiving the latest version of Sense with the Gingerbread update, in fact it's already rolling out in some places. The UK will be receiving it tomorrow, as the last country in Europe to receive it. Desire and | updates will follow shortly after.

Yes, Wow
I've had my share of Sense and I'm seriously considering another brand just to avoid Sense (although Moto Blur and Samsung's skin isn't really better)
Please define how sense tired you? I hope that aren't just widgets?

- ROM takes up valuable internal space
- more RAM usage
- launcher is a joke (3 shortcuts, one of them is to put on shortcuts and widgets? yeah like i do that every 5 minutes)
When you see that the most presented features about newly announced HTC phones are "notification bar power control shortcuts" and "drawer that scrolls per sections", then you know they're just fiddling about. So Sense, please **** off.
I thought they said that they'll have gingerbread out for the desire around Q2 of this year?

Sense (in my opinion) is just bloatware. The widgets are a nice extra but the overall graphic make-over is unneeded in the Android revisions currently rolling out.
It may have been needed in 2.1 and 2.2 but 2.3 really doesn't need a new graphic layer.
The social network integration into the contact system is nice but nobody uses it the way HTC intended it to be used (I.e. someone calls you, you check the social network status and have a topic to talk about).
Facebook as a standalone app can also add pictures to your contacts.
I'm terrified about what HTC is going to do to Honeycomb! Imagine them throwing a Sense layer on top and adding that ridiculous pen input.
You don't have to use the pen with the tablet if you don't want (that's how I understand it anyway)
In some instances it would probably be good - i.e. drawing pics in paint or whatever - or for handwriting notes - I find it frustrating on notes on my desire at the moment, where on my Touch HD it was easy with the stylus!
It's nice to have the option anyway...
Would be nice to get the official update asap. I tried the gingervillian rom but it got stuck on the villianrom boot screen
Quit *****ing about Sense and buy an Nexus S! HTC has Sense and I love it! I'm really looking forward to get Gingerbread with Sense, but I really hope they skip the 2.3 and go straight to 2.4 Gingerbread
Agreed! , I have only had the desire for a week now and i love the sense ui. Just wanted to have a look at gingerbread
"Great news for HTC Desire family owners – it has been reported HTC will be releasing the Gingerbread (Android 2.3/2.4) update for the HTC Desire family after the new Desire S goes on sale.
Wow it hasn’t been officially announced by HTC, the information was apparently coerced out of an HTC rep at the Mobile World Congress this week. While it’s no confirmation, HTC has been proven to be pretty reliable with their Android updates and there should be no reason to why it won’t stay that way. The HTC Desire family includes the HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z (hopefully this means the G2 as well).
With no other phones announced to have official Gingerbread updates and the Nexus S remains the only phone to have Gingerbread, it’s about time some phones started getting Android 2.3/2.4. At least Desire users aren’t still stuck on 2.1."
Not what Ubergizmo is saying. Keep the faith, people - HTC have been good to us.

I use Sense roms only. No one forces you to use sense launcher if you don't like it, every sense rom has default Android launcher too. I tried a few aosp roms until I found out that sense doesn't have to be used, but you still get the rest of the great stuff like name prediction when making a call, or a slight vibrate when call connected for example. Only thing that sucks is that we are stuck with 2.6.32 kernels at this moment.
About memory consumption they are equal or sense even more efficient, and the same goes for speed. You don't get aosp related bugs either.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Basically not 1 plus over AOSP (T9 dialing apps on market, vibrate when connected is in CM), EXCEPT you get more internal space with using a AOSP ROM. Now extra 200MB+ over a crappy interface ? Anytime.
Is there an ASOP rom that has face detection or touch to focus though? I am a heavy user of the camera and video and so far have been pretty disappointed at the lack of those in the 2.3 roms.
I would say that the email and text widgets are better thought out than the standard 2.3, or market ones.

Heard about a2sd+ scripts? Data2sd?
Internal memory size is more than irrelevant with either of those. And the epickest are those who resort to changing partition tables to get moar internal space. Kudos.

[Q] Desire Z 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0 update??

This phone has enough power to run this version. Many DZ owners can confirm this. Is the HTC Desire Z ever going to get this update?
Desire Z will officially get an update in January, but nobody knows what will it include
Wildfire S got an update recently with sense 3.0 lockscreen, but officialy it's called sense 2.1
Now Desire HD and Incredible S got a Sense 3.0 update. Hope we will get something too, especially if there's no next generation qwerty phone from HTC.
HTC engineers are working to bring Sense 3.0 to Desire Z at the moment, if they decide that Sense 3.0 works on Desire Z without any problem, they will release it via OTA, but if they decide that Sense 3.0 is not compatible with Desire Z, then they will cut the biggest features like 3D scrolling, and just release some Sense 3.0 features like Active Lock Screen as Sense 2.2 via OTA
desire HD got sense 3 OTA. im looking forward that they fix the bugs present in 2.3.3
is this confirmed already?
HTC Turkey confirmed it
I saw only information about DHD and DIS, nothing about Desire Z . Do you have any confirmation that HTC Turkey said anything?
No, because I have contacted with HTC Turkey by calling them, but I will try to get more information and a confirmation like screencaps for you
If you said that Desire Z will get update thats enough . However, wonder what version of sense we will get. My tryouts with support contact edns with information "phone is being tested with Android 4.x, but we cannot say anything". Well, we shall see. In my opining there are 3 possibilities, we will get 2.3.5 with Sense 2.1 with new lock screen, we will get Android 4.x in Jan/Feb or we will not get anything .
My conversation on HTC Chat with English Support.
"Hello. Is Desire Z will still be updated to android 2.3.5
Beatrix: Yes it is alredy relesed.
Beatrix: I can not tell you the exact date but every device will get the update.
Beatrix: You can check for a system update from the phone itself. On the Home Screen press MENU - SETTINGS - ABOUT PHONE - SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATES - CHECK NOW. If there is an update available then please download and install it. We recommend that you download the update via a WI-FI connection to avoid any data charges imposed by your mobile network provider.
Me: It is known IncreadibleS and Desire HD got the updates and Desire Z was not on the list of updates in December
Beatrix: yes it will be updated beggining next year. with htc sense3.0"
Engadget had desire z listed as getting sense 3.0 I thought..just a few days ago

I hope before Christmas!

We got an update last Xmas, too.
Many of you probably have tried Sense 3.0 already with custom roms.
It is slow, I guess. Even with overclocking.
I hope they at HTC will find the right way.
I am waiting on an update, too, I just don't know why. It is nothing special.
Well, the new camera app is nice, advanced quick menu is cool, too.
Will you guys and all of us keep us updated if anyone gets the OTA update?

Thanks alot for this information guys. I've been trying hard to use custom sense Rom on my phone but the performance lag is just not worth it. If at all HTC does decide to bless us with Sense 3.0, I'm sure the developers will be able to optimize it even further for our liking.

You can try Virtuous Doubleshot then, but I couldn't fix mobile data on that ROM, CM7 RIL has only brought network back.
