Poor Performance and Bugs in Official Froyo 2.2 India - Defy General

Hey,
After upgrading to official froyo in India using MSU, I am facing several issues like:-
1)games like ninjump(used to work like a charm before) are now hanging.
2)no notification sound on plugging/unplugging charger.
3)sometimes touch doesn't respond while receiving calls.
4)task manager app is not showing installed apps.
5)phone seems laggy
Is anyone else also facing these issues?
Also, today motodefy is no longer listed under India at motorola update site although it was there till yesterday.
(I checked for Singapore. MotoDefy was selectable, but for Malaysia & Indonesia also there was no defy)
So does that mean that the Froyo was released just for testing? Same thing was done for USA guys as well. Moto released Froyo for limited period, took update & suggestions from users through forums & then released it officially after almost 2 Months.
Is this what is happening here?
When is the actual/ Final release date for India?
(Its still showing Planned in Q2 for APAC reason)

They probably removed from the official motorola site, probably because it has bugs and your phone operator knows that.
It happened here in Brazil also, for two of the main mobile operators.
It will probably come back in a few days. Worry not.

I had updated my defy to 2.2 India. Now sometimes when i recieve a call, my phone continues to vibrate even when I am talking and after disconnecting the phone I have to take out the battery to make it stop.
My phone also has CardioTrainer preinstalled after 2.2 update.

hmmm.. Yest I updated my defy to Froyo Indian version, So far I did not notice any issues, Everything seems to be okay, Though I faced some issues when I enabled InPocket detection The display used to go off when I was using the phone.. So I disabled it.. And I got a 100 points extra when I ran the Quadrant benchmark ;-)

did anyone try a factory reset?? Cause i read on some forums that all update bugs were gone after reset. For some users even the camera wasn't working

hi,
after the froyo 2.2.2 update in india I am having the following issue .
1. camera is taking video .But all pictures are coming black
2. earpiece volume seems to very very low after the update .
3. Getting the cracking noise in earpiece sometimes
4. fail in notification sound when putting charging and removing .
5. I also enabled the in pocket detection and then phone goes off while using .so turned it off
I will try factory update lets see

factory reset will solve it....

read somewhere that u shud do hard reset instead of factory rest......as factory rest colud not solve my problems!!

Selecting factory reset from the privacy settings menu doesn't format the cache or system memory as it does with the recovery.
Factory reset from recovery is a fresh start, as selecting the factory reset is more or less like doing a system restore on a Windows PC. It takes you back where you left off, but the data is still on the disk.
procedure for hard reset-
Turn phone off.
Wait 5-10 seconds.
Press and hold POWER and VOLUME DOWN keys until a screen appears with a "!" inside a triangle and a little android standing next to it.
Press both VOLUME keys at the same time to display the menu.
Using the VOLUME keys, navigate the menu to select Factory Reset/Wipe and make your selection with the POWER key.
Once the Factory reset is completed, navigate to Reboot System and make your selection with the POWER key.
Your phone should now be reset to factory settings.

no problem...
Mine is working fine after the update. no issue's, plus the battery performance has improved.. Its been two days after i have updated and i have checked all the functions thoroughly and all is good.

Yes, I am with you Mr.Dragon...After update it works like charm....Battery life is just amazing...I am Loving it

Mine is working fine.. Playing all the HD games without any lags as the same when the phone was in eclair version..

camera got fixed
hi,
After I made a factory setting my camera problem got sloved
no it no longer takes black picture.
But now the phone lags a lot of time . it also hangs during call ,
it also has no charging sound .motoblur widgets are unstable . all the same symptom as reported original post
what shall I do ?
Shall I Hard reset my phone .. or shall I take it to service centre for the downgrade to 2.1 .. anyone who got good results after hard reset procedure ???
please let us know ???

A hard reset is recommended. got better results after formatting the sd card together with a hard reset. Hard alone prior to this didn't help much.
However, some issues still persist like hanging up in google maps etc.

updated to new 2.3.3, now its all working fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106375

for ppl with this problem i would suggest to flash a new sbf on 2.2.2 preferable nordic edition.
trust me nothing will help to solve this cpu hangs and lags on sea15, instead for the time being update to other sbf ..if you want to take to warranty you can obviously flash the original sea15 sbf then.
All sea 15 users Try the new gingerbread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106375 (...i think all india users have red camera lens so you can "BINDASS" update...even for the green lens camera you can see the UI but cam will not work...)
now you can stop complaining about lags and hangs

No scene mode
There is no scene mode option in the camera.. any1 noticed it?

I think the "standard" step to follow when flashing a new rom is to wipe and factory reset, maybe that will help.

I seem to be one of the unique few owners of the green camera lens Defy in India. I have the official Froyo update for India. Battery life seems to have improved. But the Data Usage seems to have gone sky high with around 100MB a day!! Most of the Data seems to be hogged by the gallery. I wonder whats up with that.

HTC Touch Pro 2 & Standby of Death SOD

I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2 where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
had this problem once: I switched on the camera, and then left the device on the table for a long time - so it went to standby.
I could not wake it up by the power button after 20 minutes, but as an incoming call came, it was ringing with a black display, and I could answer the call with my BT headset. screen was still pure black
finally I pushed the reset button and since then everything is fine - I still feel this was connected to the camera.

Yeah if it only happened the once then that was probably the case, if you have the problem on a regular basis and you know its nothing to do with the camera (becuase you never loaded it) then you have the problem I am describing.
I have exactly the same problem has Terta.
I'm 100% sur that it's the camera that make this bug I have tried all my weekend to reproduce the bug a lot of time and it was always the camera...
Hope someone can fix this bug cause now I can't take any photo without soft-reseting my phone. Very, very, very annoying...
I messed around with the sound app SRS WOW HD for a while to get it work on TP2, with this installed, mine did exactly the same thing.
Sometimes it happened straight away (first sleep), other times it happened a day or so later.
Uninstalled, it did not happen again.
(Not the SIM or Camera for me)
Go figure!
Cheers

Yes I guess there are many reasons for the Standby of Death, if you have ruled out all software causes such as the camera or installed apps then have a think about the SIM and/or the settings that impact the SIM.
Its the last thing most people will think about. It worked for me and got rid of a random SOD problem 2-3 times a week which coinceded with being in weak 3G areas (where the phone might switch bands automatically) although that never occured to me at the time.
You see I haven't installed other applications nor do I load up the camera and leave it running so I couldn't figure out what was causing it, it just happened randomly not connected with anything particular that I was doing.
i hope there is some kind of magical solution for this because i just got my Sprint TP2 today and I have this issue everytime my phone goes into standby. Pushing the power button wont bring it out but every once in a while opening the keyboard does. I have to continually reset my new phone just to use it
PS; beyond this annoyance, I love it!

Try taking out the SIM card and see if it still happens everytime the phone goes into standby...
For the past few days I have been restarting my phone thru the soft reset. I think this is a windows issue...it has happened to me even without having the camera app running, and yes I checked the task manager. Hopefully this will be fixed when windows mobile 6.5 comes out, since Im getting frustrated with this phone...I have the phone for about a month now....grrr Stand by of Death!!!

so its not just mine then? this is ridiculous
Right, i had got seriously fed up with the standby of death happending, so i decided to contact HTC Europe directly.
They went over the usual 'factory reset' and 'update' solutions before coming to the conclusion that either there is a loose connection/faulty screen or there is some confiliction between drivers of the pre-installed software.
Because all HTC phones have 2 years warrenty as standard they have asked me to send if off so they can invistigate the problem and send me a replacement.
So if anybody is in the same boat as me a suggest you contact HTC and arrange a fix/replace.
Hope this helps.

Add me to the list, seems to happen when I am charging my phone and it hits 100%
This phone reminds me of all my previous Sony Ericsson phones....very unstable OS' ... Makes me regret of getting this one and should've gotten an iPhone...but then again I'm pretty sure iPhone's have issues that apple fanboys aren't admitting. The reason that made me not get an iphone is because of ATT's ridiculous plan pricing...Its crazy!!!
if you are on sprints network, take out the sim card. This has fixed the issue for me. Used to get SOD a few times a day but opening the keyboard and then pressing the power button used to get me out of it. This was really annoying, and i read that it may be issues with the sim card. Took that out a week ago and havent had a SOD yet

Jabberoo I can verify that this was caused by the SRS WOW HD program on my touch pro 2 as well. AS SOON as I uninstalled this application, restarted, everything was fine again.
I don't know if this will help anybody but if your phone suffers from SOD and you have TMO put it in airplane mode and see if it still does it.
I did that and it never went into SOD so that lead me to believe that the radio was the culprit. before that I tried everything listed. I don't have the 3G Plan so the 3.45.25.14 (T-Mobile) radio is the only one that worked for me.
I have the same problem.. just have installed spb mobile shell with mskip ultimate. I try to unistall all
I have a question: if I choose the 3G only option (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) and the signal strength is low there will not be an automatic switch between 3G and 2G am I right? ...and i'm offline then

Confirming this....
I had this issue for a while now...I tried hard resets, ROM flashes etc. It all works fine and was stable until I flash Sps Wow HD (I just realized this). Yesterday I flashed the latest HTC released sense ROM and right now after installing all the softwares I had the SOD again. Fortunately I saw the 2 posts and thought I will give it a try...and guess what?
I uninstalled the Srs Wow HD and phone is back to normal...no issues till now...will report later if I see any.
I am going to tmobile to get the SIM changed anyways hoping that it will fix another issue I am having. Every day I have to turn the airplane mode ON and OFF at least twice to get my data connection back. Mostly after a call and sometimes in random the phone is unable to reconnect to the data, it gives me an error that the epc.tmobile didnt respond or something like that. If any of you know how to fix this issue...plz help
I have been Experiencing this so called "SOD". HTC touch pro 2 sprint. On the 6.5.5 Build 23569 i had MAJOR sod issues. Energyrom , mighty , titanium , you name it. Ive Task 29 and reflashed them all multiple times. Still SOD was there... But i may have found a temp cure for me atleast. This is what i did....
First , i used task29 , next i reflashed the stock 6.1 rom, check for SOD... still had it... i task 29 again. Installed titanium edition , without sense. SOD was cured, phone worked fine, tryed to install sense 2.1, failed, SOD was back. Soo...
Then i task29 again, then repeated task29 a second time at the boot screen.... then i flashed Energyrom GTX themed 21907 build june 27th......Once it was flashed unplugged my USB plug and plugged it into the usb wall plug i have . Installed LUMOS, light sensor still was inactive and no response, could not brighten and still nothing... Installed G-light right after lumos without uninstalling lumos.... Still plugged into the AC wall USB plug....let it sit. Still nothing, couldnt adjust or brighten..... So i task 29 AGAIN... then flashed 21907 build GTX themed again... once flashed, unplugged it & back into wall charger... Installed lumos.... SUDDENLY!!! the sensor worked, and was accepting light AGAIN! ...
So i ran the LUMOS wizard, followed instructions and my phone was SOD FREE!! Let it sit over night, was fine....I wanted to see now if i could overwrite / flash over GTX themed with DiNiK glass cause i liked it better... so i DID NOT USE task29 this time, just reflashed over GTX themed one With DiNiK glass... same build 21907 and followed all my same steps, with wall plug, installed lumos, did the wizard,.... WALAaa.... works still like a charm. Have been using and testing it for 5 days, SOD is gone as far as i know.... ALSO in options, under setting / system / power / batt... i turned off the option to charge it when plugged into PC....Not sure if it helps or not. But Something i did is doing the trick. Seems between the backlight, and something to do with my 2.0 usb cord thats messing it up.
Seems to be cured... Still not sure exactly what fixed my phone. But between all that, IMO i believe installing lumos and glight triggered something also i think not letting it charge thru the PC, and only using a wall plug for charging has something to do with it....Either way . now its back to normal working just great... ONLY running LUMOS cab, and all the games i want. Energyrom Build 21907 DiNiK Glass Themed june 27th.... HOPE this helps!!! Have a wonderful DAY!

Oh ok, and was there anything special you did? How much free space? which screen SLCD or AMOLED?
Sorry for all the questions, don't need a shiny new paper weight
Can someone confirm the software number and baseband? I'd like to see if it's the same release as before.

no, nothing special, just seen the update today and updated it, as i've said, mines was a stock phone with nothing done to it.
it's an AMOLED
sorry, not sure how much free space i had, but i don't have a lot on it, if this helps
Installed ok here too had to remove some apps as it needed about 28 meg free.

Finally! Updated to 2.2 without any problems (have an AMOLED display).
Arite.

I'm not touching this update until O2 confirm what the problem is. Apparently, it's exactly the same build released a few weeks ago. You know, the one that bricked about 1/3 to 1/2 of the phones it was applied to. Knowing O2, they'll probably just pull the update again, sulk for a few weeks, then give it another go.
I rely on my phone pretty heavily, and I'm not risking losing all of my data just because O2 can't get their crap together and release a stable ROM. With the popularity of this phone, it's surprising there's not more of an uproar about it. Would really like to know just what the hell's in this ROM that's causing so much hassle.
Will keep an eye on the O2 forum for the next couple of days, see if there's anything resembling some official feedback. This is a joke.
Just update... no problems!!!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Please could someone explain step by step how to do the update as i have downloaded the exe. file. Much help needed.
If you're willing to risk it, the standard update procedure should run as follows.
1) Free at least 88MB of space on your phone memory.
You can check your phone memory by pressing the Menu button, going to Settings, then SD & Phone Storage. The value at the bottom (Internal phone storage) is the one you're looking for. The reason for needing such a large amount of space is to accommodate the 87.21MB update file.
If you don't have enough free space, you can start deleting applications from your phone to clear some room. You can do this by going to the Applications section of the Settings menu, then to Manage Applications. Bear in mind that you can also clear the cache / stored data of some applications without having to delete them, but that some applications cannot be deleted at all.
2) Charge your battery.
The update procedure is best done with a full battery, so make sure it's freshly charged if you don't plan to keep it plugged in for the duration.
3) Restart your phone.
Having a load of applications running in the background is never advisable when doing upgrades. The phone will have to restart during the update procedure, so the less it has to shut down, the less can go wrong.
4) Recommended: Plug your phone in to charge.
The update can take a while. If you're fully charged, it shouldn't matter, but it can't do any harm.
5) Check for updates.
This is a simple matter of pressing the Menu button, going to Settings, About Phone, System Software Updates, then hitting "Check Now". The phone will say that a new update is available. It is highly recommended that, if you're in an area that allows it, you use WiFi only. It reduces the risk of the update being split over two different data connections during the download. Once you're happy with the setting, hit OK.
6) Wait.
For a good while. Don't touch your phone unless it asks you to. Don't interrupt the update unless the world is falling apart and/or someone offers you a great deal of money to do so.
If anyone wants to correct me on any of these steps, go right ahead. But assuming that the update file isn't broken entirely, this should allow for a pretty smooth update process. Good luck.
Updated my wife's phone last night - broke all the rules - but it went off without a hitch. Battery at about 70% , didn't reboot first - though she had not installed any apps. Took about 20 mins - never touched it during that time.
Installed the updated gmail afterwards and that worked fine too.
Don't know the screen type.
Good luck everyone else, hope your updates go well - it's well worth it.
Cheers
mine went yesterday, cleared out some apps as it requested more memory and after install the phone went into the sense force close loop that happened the 1st time it was released
online support told me to take it to a o2 retail shop and they would fix it quickly in shop
o2 retail told me they offered no such service and it would be sent away for repair
ended up using this solution found on the o2 forum
1. Shut down the handset.
2. Press the "Volume down" button and (whilst keeping it pressed) press on the power button.
3. You will see some boot up text.
4. Go to the "Clear Storage" option using the "Volume down" button, then select that option by pressing the power button.
5. Press the "Volume up" button to start the process.
6. After clearing the storage, it will restart - hopefully the Sense reload issue should have resolved (mine did!).
PLEASE NOTE: SELECTING THE "CLEAR STORAGE" OPTION CLEARED OUT EVERYTHING ON MY PHONE, set up the active sync and touchdown and it all came back and most other stuff is backed up anyway
R
Did the update OTA successfully. But i noticed that i can browse on my phone unlike before when running 2.1. I took it to my service provider Etisalat for manual configuration, but all to no avail. At Etisalat, they told me that there network can't provide internet service for HTC desire running on android 2.2. I don't know if what they told me is true or not. could someone please help me out. I have an O2 branded desire and updated it to O2 froyo update.

[Q] DHD camera dead

About 2 weeks ago, my camera simply stopped working. Any app that uses the camera simply opens to a black screen and then becomes unresponsive.
I've tried a full factory reset to no avail. Before sending the camera for repair, is there anything else I can try. I did check the forum and elsewhere to see if this was a known issue with the DHD or an individual firmware vesion, but nothing obvious.
I'm running 1.72.405.3
Thanks for any pointers
Daz
Hi Daz,
It does sound like your camera's sensor has failed. I had a similar issue with my HTC Hero when I got that many moons ago. This would be covered by the manufacturers warranty so you'd be entitled to a replacement or repair.
Did the camera only fail once the update had been applied? As i think and i'm not 100% but i think that the cam is one of the things which the update is for, maybe you could try a custom rom to see if the update has caused it, I can't see why but it could be.
My Hero's camera would not work with anything over 1.5, any custom rom or even the stock 2.1 update would cause my phone to reboot after every second usage of the phones camera, it was very annoying and because it was a persistent problem which was no fault of my own, i didn't pay for the replacement, so maybe look into it, it may save you a few bob getting it fixed, unless your getting it for free.
Just a thought.
To be honest it could well have been after an update, I just can't tie the two events together in my head.
The phone will be fixed for free as it's still under warrantee, I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to avoid having to send it away for what could be weeks. I do suspect it's a hardware issue so prob best just to let HTC deal with it and send me back a working phone.
Thanks all.
Daz
I also have this problem, any updates on the issue? I really don't want to be without my phone for weeks! The camera only stopped working after I flashed from Leedroid 1.2 to cyanogenmod 6.1.3 then flashed back to Leedroid
Hi,
I'm afraid I don't know just yet. I sent the phone away for repair and it's still being worked on. I'll let you know what they said when I get it back.

[Q] Changing resolution and power issues One X

Hi all
Had the One X (from vodafone uk) for about 6 weeks now - fantastic phone and very happy until yesterday. The phone started doing this on Sunday afternoon and has become progressively worse over the last 24 hours.
Possibly unrelated but the issue first occurred after installing 6 app updates (astro file manager, dropbox, frontline commando and 3 others which escape me)
Display goes from "normal" to ultra low resolution. Seems to coincide with buttons becoming unresponsive (including power). Phone will often not display anything though I can here alerts as messages come in. If I hold in power button to turn phone off the back, menu and recent apps buttons flash briefly but phone display does not come back on.
I tried to link to some images from my public dropbox folder but don't have enough posts on here yet. Attazhed 7z file with png of the display going batsh1t.
Yesterday it was somewhat intermittent today its become progressively worse however. In between bursts of display oddity I managed to get the latest OTA updata from HTC/Vodafone installed 1.29.161.3 but problem persists. I've also done a factory reset to no avail.
Current versions if this is in any way useful:
Android version 4.0.3
HTC sense 4.0
kernel version 2.6.39.4-g1389c4c
I'm guessing as factory reset did not work and neither did the OTA update then I'm looking at hardware issue (GFX or CPU or mainboard?) and most likely back to Vodafone for repair. Just seeking advice if I'm on to the right likely issue here and if anyone else had same/similar issue in case a software update *could* resolve the issue.
Cheers
looks like hardware issue like not all of the data is being sent to the screen, did you drop it or something?
anyway send it back and get it repaired or replaced
this happened to one of my old desire, i dropped it hard and the screen went all low res and weird colours
RESOLVED: Changing resolution and power issues One X
Hi Mox, thanks for that, sort of confirms what I already suspected. Was just hoping a software update or similar could resolve rather than saying goodbye to the phone for 3 weeks while Vodafone sort it.
Don't remember dropping the phone (but I have kids).
Sorting out with Vodafone now. Thanks again.

Z1 Compact hangs in random moments

Hi
My Z1 Compact started to hang while opening apps or while using them. Sometimes it doesn't reset and then some things are not responding and whole interface disappear and comes up again.
I tried to record it with the screen recorder and the "show touches" option but the record wasn't saved. The "show touches" option worked during the hang.
Sometimes I can turn it off by clicking power button and power off but it takes some time to "read" my touch. There are no problems with the battery.
Is it a RAM problem? How can I find out what happens before and during the hang? Is there something like Windows event viewer for Android? My ROM was DstrikerZ1 Kai SP007, after the problems started I updated it to SP008, now it is on stock ROM with no root. The bootloader is locked and it was never unlocked.
I thought it would work for another 2 years

Are you saying that the problem was the same through both Dstriker versions, and straight stock? Was there full wipes in between? If so, I would think it's a hw issue, maybe digitizer... If not, best thing to test is a totally different rom with full wipe.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think digitizer can cause software freezes... If it was faulty I couldn't control the phone but it would respond anyway.
I flashed SP008 with data+system+cache+art cache wipe, then I flashed stock ROM via software repair in PC Companion.

I don't know what hw it would be, but seems like hw to me.
A good app for what you're looking for might be OSMonitor from f-droid - https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=git&fdid=com.eolwral.osmonitor&fdpage=3 There's a 'message' tab, and a drop-down menu you can choose which type of log you want to read.
I don't understand this log ;/ There is a lot of messages.
I consider buying a Z1C with cracked screen and swapping the mobo, but first, I will call a technician.
Hello I have the same issues from today. It looks like a SW issue. I never do updates, except yesterday I did,...
I also saw that lots of people have issues with the latest update of Facebook.
Yes, it was all because of Facebook. I restored custom rom and all mods yesterday and it works fine so far.
Somebody wants us to throw old Z1Cs, but we throw FB app instead. Nice try mr. Zuckerberg.
I don't know why, but i have this problem, i don't think it's hw fault, i have the same issue in all my 3 z1, it's kinda funny, deleting Facebook App 'fixed' my problem
Had same freeze on SP007, so I downgraded to SP005, instead of upgrade to SP008.
SP005 runs much better and doesn't look like Pixel but has the XZ look
Had this issue all week and now I know it's Facebook! Was having hard / soft reset issues for like a week after this stupid Facebook update... thank god I checked here.
