A interesting future is coming every day earlier, but what will be in the near future coming, what can we bada users do, currently it is a little bit boring for flashers and testers.
As i seen it, the Market is full of OSes that maybe...
Android:
Currently the non plus ultra for every power user, and the normal users, android is a good and fast os, but google is making some mistakes in the last time, i think they wont even make it opensource it will come a time where the whole os will be closed, google is showing us in the news how the realy are, they making their own grave. The main and worst thing fragmentation, if there come more restrictions we will se a other open source os growing behind androids current state.
iOS:
Apples WoW effect is gone, nobody wants to be tracked without knowing it, or even think that the iOS devices can everything, they even can less than bada, without a jailbrake this os is useless for everyone.
WinPhone7:
Here we are Microsoft your last chance to get into the big phone market, but it is not important how much developers the system has, the sellings saying words, android don't give it even a try, the ui is more than bad for nowadays, i have myself testet this system a longer time, nothing was more boring as ...
WebOS:
Pushed by HP it will get to a new speare, but i think WebOS will be more interesting for netbooks or someting like that, cause this os on a palm prevent even starting it, witouth registering an web account.
Symbian:
Dead, nothing to say here, the worst system for the todays standard ...
Bada:
Bada was in this first year for more then a quarter of people disappointing, android have push, everyone wont push, apple have much apps, everyone wont much apps, and the circle is turning around since a year. Bada was the only OS with so much features in the first version, what is a little plus point for the os, we cannot compare this above older systems that are developed since years, that would be unfair.
2.0 the last chance? Definitely Yes, if samsung surprizes with bada 2.0 and let the other OSes seem old, it wil be a chance to get the gone users back.
If not, than we will not be able to choose anymore systems, the two monopols currently will raise much more, and we will have a lot of manufacturers that are realeasing the same hardware with the same os, very cool, only the design will be the main part, by searching the perfect phone, yahooo.
More Opponents on the market is good, and i personaly hope that bada will stick the mouth of the critizizm, there is a lot of disapointing things on the currently market, to bad.
Let us hope that samsung deos it this time better, else we will all sell our soul on google or apple.
As developer i like bada, no market has such a place to establish some little developers, and the main community is fantastic, thank you all.

Good evaluation. makes me think closely on the next purchase of a new smartphone
There is only one point i disagree with you is about windows phone 7..because microsoft bring lot of new features with mango update and metro UI is unique and innovative and it will get better..even windows phone 7 is new os and i can say its better than bada..i like bada but i getting tired of samsung and their horrible upgrading process.i will keep bada until next year and my next phone would be wp7..
Just my thoughts..no offense..
Yeah, one should never underestimate microsoft. If they really want their OS to be successful, they'll find a way to achieve this ....

Hmm i don't know anyone in my friendship has sold the windows phones and switched to Android, the UI is a little bit boring (this is my thinking). I rather would sold my soul to android before i use anymore a windows mobile/phone os, windows mobile also started good, but at the near and. I don't know let us see what the feature brings.
I am rating on the sells of new devices the windows phone 7 devices are even cheaper than the wave II and that is not good sign, but i can also mean it wrong.
General i am using also windows on the PC, cause a lot of stuff i need deosn't run on my netbsd. All around it is surely inovative, but such a style in times of the power of android, is in my opinion not enough.
1. Well, if we get a Samsung Wave III with the Galaxy S2's hardware and the Bada 2.0 operating system for 250 - 350 € this year, then I will be happy (and give a **** about Android or WP7). =]
2. Otherwise I will stick to Bada 2.0 on the Wave (I) and have fun with that until it grows old and I need a new one.
3. If Bada 2.0 turns out to be great **** (which I doubt strongly), then I will still keep my Wave (with Bada 1.2 or 2.0) some weeks/months and wait until the Galaxy S2 is cheap to get.
This is my (mobile phone) future ... and I have a feeling it goes hand in hand with Bada's future.

Yes you are right if a other OS than the todays best. Gooble makes everytime good software, only the privacy is the bad thing behind, but if bada geos completly down, we have onyl this chance.
But I really think (and hope), that Bada 2.0 (or a Wave III with Bada 2.0) will rock like hell. =)
Actually, iOS, WP7 and Android are no options for me, due to security reasons and the lack of freedom (iOS, especially). But if I had to, I would choose Android because of the lovely Galaxy S2 - fast and sexy machine. =)

Just a simple poll. Please leave a comment as well.
I love HTC to death and everything, but I believe its now time to switch for me. I'll be picking up the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 once it comes out.
One of the main reasons is that Microsoft is really slow to change. Android has gone through a number of great revisions, whereas it took Microsoft plenty years to go from 6 to 7. Also, I would like a phone that can be used to its full potential by a myriad of apps of out there.
Right now I'm giving myself the impression that I will likely pick up a WP7 eventually. I won't be an early adopter as I love my TP2, and I'm still under contract for a while. But once I'm freed up from that, I'm definitely open to it. There are some things I don't like about WP7, like loosing all my WM6 apps (assuming no one releases an emulator, which I personally think is unlikely), but I think the benefits could outweigh the downsides. Only time will tell though.
Android is flexible, well styled, fast and an ever growing community. was close to getting a HD2 but held out til MWC ... I'm glad I did. I'll be grabbing the Desire in april. while wm 7 looks nice, it's still another 8 or so months away and by then android will probly have a new update on the horizon.
I'm swithering, WM7 looks good but very tempted to go back to Apple when iPhone 4G is launched.

I doubt that they will come up with anything that can challenge the HTC Desire...
Seriously, do you expect them to add a bigger WVGA screen, a good camera, faster processor AND more RAM with one single update?
No, that's not how Apple works.
Plus, they would have to add multitasking, cutomizability, better call handling features and a perfect way of handling notifications (because Android DOES is perfectly).
No way.
EDIT: And did I mention the crappy build quality of the iPhone? They knew about issues like hairline cracks and the scratched Apple logo and chrome frame with the 3G, yet they released the 3GS with exactly the same casing that's a piece of junk.
Now I did
I am a newbie in wm world and i find it huge, planning to stay for a while
Anyone looking at the Xperia X10?
btw, that poll here is pure absurd.
consider adding: "No, PDA is dead already", or precise if that poll is just for PHONE users. not everyone has to choose between feeble android, moronic iphone or wm.
if i search for phone, i'd choose PHONE, not moronic trendy BS.
i was with wm because i needed portable computer with all its software(that will soon cease to WORK(or already DID(6.5.x))).
wm7 is end of PDA, imho.
----
theomni, are you WM kicker? Android fan or sth?

Google paid you for this bs or what? android has myriad of BS, not apps, first. there is NOTHING that could be substitute of apps i know for years(since wm03).
it is funny that wm7 will kill MYRIAD of useful apps, especially perfect, freeware ones, made for WM by great people(BEFORE xdadev era, i am not talking about fockin manilla skins here).
happy marketBSplace welcomes, thank you for killing portable computers with mobile windows by turning it into phones for masses(epic FAIL).
and yeah, sorry for my engrish, i dont care.
(topic not suscribed, waste of time).
I'm not going anywhere Windows Phones are awesome
I can honestly say that I will be at the Verizon store the day WP7 comes out. I'll have an upgrade in a couple months, but I'm saving it for WP7.
Just give me 4.3" WP7 and I will buy immediately
No, I wont switch to other platform. I will stick to WM (Currently WM6.1 on HTC Kaiser).
Android is nice, I was about to switch until I saw WP7.
Lucky, I can still "play" around with Android on my HTC Kaiser
I want WP7 on my HD2, winmo for me .
I either will buy a WinMo7 phone - or better - hope there will be a custom ROM for my TouchPro
My take on this is that I'm hoping there will be cooked HD2 ROMs based on WP7, and that I will try them out if there are. I'm currently only 3 months into an 18 month contract with my HD2, and right now I don't see any pressing need to upgrade before the end of the contract period. By that time we may be close to the launch of the next iPhone model after this year's, and Android and Maemo will likely have improved dramatically; so it's impossible to predict what I might do then!
You need more options, my answer would have be HELL YES! WP7! Xbox and Zune and Windows Mobile, what more could I want!
And all these people who keep saying there going to change to android, I really dont get it, Yeh its a nice os, but it still doesnt feel finished to me.
It depends only on upgradeability.
If the HTC HD2 will get the WP7 upgrade, I'll still be buying a Windows Phone. If not, I'll go to Android.
I don't want my $800 device to be obsolete after 3 months.
I love Windows, however I'm going to have to give it up due to my company offering me service from sprint.
You should add another selection for your poll, to early to tell.
We don't know much about the OS yet, and picking a phone is more than just the OS. The actual hardware & features matter too.
Android
Android still has to be rooted before the fun begins, maemo does not.
Have Iphone 3gs today, really good but SOOOO mainstream and booring.
Winmo, big NO think this one have done it`s thing but it was good really good back then.
Maemo for me.
i think its kind of early to make a decision, i've always been a fan of WM but i have to wait for the MIX on march to see how apps will go, and whether WP7 provides access to registry and filesystem in order for us to be able to tweak some things (although i find that unlikely).
we should also wait and see apple's response to WP7 during the summer.
if i move away from windows it will probably be for android, but as i said, i didnt vote because the info we have at this time is very little on the platform
Anyone knw when android might be ported to be used on WP7? I plan on getting a Samsung Focus instead of The Captivate so i can get the best of both world, WP7 and Android (if it happens)
Not happening anytime soon.
1. No unlock yet
2. Brand new coding that has to be deciphered
3. Most people buying this phone don't want android
Buy a bloody android phone if you want android!!!!
Good luck getting the device drivers.from MS.

What's the point? Aren't WP7 phones and Android phones based on the same hardware ?
android on sd is never going to happen .
and nand maybe when there are phones with way better hardware ( what is the point to port android to a phone with same hardware as hd2)
personally I hope android is never coming to a wp7 phone .
Are you kidding me? if you want android go buy an android phone...... thats like, buying an iphone and hoping someone ports WP7 to it. go buy an android phone.....seriously.....
For information ...
Is in the correct section as this is a question about Android on a device WP7

I don't see any reason for Android on a WP7 device. That would be like a downgrade.
I think it would be great for apps that have not been released. I would be lost w/o out logmein. There are prob some people out there like me that would love to run wm7 and jump to the android os form time to time to do things like that.
I've decided to abandon Android on my HD2 altogether now. There's just too many problems or bugginess with it that it just isn't as good as a nice Energy build of WinMo. All of the work they've done with Android over the months and there's still just not fit for use. Currently the best one I've found is the eVo Carbon Remix build by motoman234. But it's a Sense build and I prefer the more convenient Nexus-based builds. However, ALL of the Nexus-based builds are unusable with the number of widgets I use. And the ONLY Nexus-based build that stayed smooth scrolling with all of my widgets in place was NexusHD2. It has a touchscreen problem where the touch is intermittent.
I just can't see Android being of any use for the WP7 devices. It would never be as usable as WP7.
Quality is perception and experience, not fact.
They are not the same other than they can use the same hardware. They should not be combined. Port the program, not the os.

I work for a company developing/testing s/w for all mobile devices. I have access to all OS's and I can honestly say that IMO Windows Phone has the nicest user experience and all its lacking are features. Its only been out a week or two so give it time for the bugs to be fixed, features added and the App store to mature and it will be a cracking OS.

I gave up on custom roms altogether two years ago for the same reason. WinMo or Android, there was always at least a handful of huge bugs and/or unacceptable instability and/or limitations and/or stuff that didn't work. I wouldn't say there will NEVER be some alternative OS on these phones and I certainly wouldn't be so pompous to say that there shouldn't be some alternative OS available for those who might want it, but personally, given the speed and flexibility of these devices even now and all the afforementioned problems, I don't think I could really care less. Frankly, if I wanted an Android phone I'd have gotten one but after being spoiled by the iPhone for two years and given all the problems I've had with HTC devices in the past, I have zero interest. Fortunately, everyone is different.

The custom winmo ROMs are a different story to me. There are a lot of varieties available, and I have used a few, but by far the most reliable, stable and interesting of them are the Energy ROMs. I have zero problems using the one I use and it is fast, nimble and efficient. It doesn't require the constant maintenance the OEM ROM required in order to stay smooth and useful.
Before I flashed my first custom winmo on my HD2, I didn't believe guys sitting at their PCs doing these as a hobby could match or exceed a corporation who's workers were doing it for a living. But this one has shown me differently.
Android just doesn't interest me any longer, ever since using an actual Android phone for a few days. I just lost all drive to mess with it now that I have WP7. WP7 isn't any kind of a customizer's system but it is a system that is clean, smooth and exudes quality from every circuit. Android is like a mid-grade Ford sedan compared to WP7, which is more akin to a high-end Lexus or Infiniti.

i think you would be much better off to use an android device, or iphone for taht matter when trying things with android. the wp7 devices will likely be very, very closed, very locked down, and very not fun to develop on. we're talking about developing anything other than wp7 here, so if someone flames that comment, you didn't read the entire bit.
the wp7 phone i played with @ bestbuy was very smooth (no multi-tasking) and did the very few things it did very well. only hung up when i tried to sms myself, and a reboot (i think this might be standard) fixed it quickly.
the hardware of the wp7 phones isn't going to be exactly like Android devices, and some bits will just never have drivers. unfortunately, this is a similar fate that we've been suffereing from with carriers in the US for a long time. they sell a phone, locked to their service, locked to their GSM bands, locked (no root) to their rom, and then when things go sour they expect you to just buy ANOTHER phone from them.
i'm casting a vote for open hardware, open OS's, and open information. wp7 is still very immature, and will gain some speed with enough time. hopefully some Android centric device manufacturers will release specs and drivers for anyone to play with. i'll bet it takes another 4-5 years before people realize just how much better things can be by allowing instead of limiting themselves.
give it time, you'll be able to emulate iphone hardware on the 3rd core of your wp8 device, or Android on the 2nd, all whiel playing a game AND facetime'ing your vbff.
hell, we didn't htink we'd be shooting HD video on phones not long ago ;-)
See, here's the problem; you assume we're just ignorant end users who haven't seen the light about android and open software and all that and it's an incorrect assumption. As a developer I've worked with tons of devices over the years and I know exactly what I want in a phone and Android isn't it. iPhone filled the position for a while but that's not it any longer, also. WP7 looks to be exactly what I want in a phone and it's going to get better. Oh...and I might also add that while I haven't had a lot of experience with it as a developer yet, it's been a blast to work with. Probably more so than the iPhone where I constantly had problems with certs and having to make sure I had the right version of OS, iTunes, XCode and iOS target and whatever other hoops needed to be jumped. It's as much fun as your imagination allows and my wife says I have a pretty good imagination.

Look at WP7 market now, there is even a thread here started - it is already filled with junk.
Anyway, since you are a developer reach out to MS and suggest what you would like to see in the market, and what you would like them to offer to the users.
Happy anniversary, btw.

Here's the thing...from my perspective...I like closed systems. Simple as that. But WP7 is a closed system with high-end quality. I love the iPhone and will grow even fonder of WP7 as it matures, providing MS stays with a closed system and maintains the emphasis on quality over quantity.
I've had my fill of Android and all it offers. I just...erm...it's...boring, to me. It gives me the feel of a used up hooker. It's been in every bed known to humanity.
OK I currently have a Samsung Fascinate, and im starting to get fed up with android and there horribly slow update time frame, and the bugs with this phone i wanna like it but for some reason i cant seem to.But i think what the problem is with android is that its so open and so many phone makers are making android phone these days and so fast its to much to kepp them all updated with the newest software version. And i have had a droid eris, droid incredible, a droid x, and now the samsung fascinate, and none of them seem to satisfy me. So my question to you guys is would it be worth switching from android to win7 when verizon gets some win 7 models this spring.

It all depends on what you want in a phone. I can only speak for myself about why I choose WP7 over the others, and that is because I prefer quality over quantity. For me, WP7 is the best mobile OS ever created. It has fine craftsmanship and superb quality written all over. It is a product that was labored over for a long time to make it the best it can be, regarding functionality, ease of operation, simplicity and quality of user experience. That is what I like. I'm attracted to effort from the heart. Like artwork, where the artist pours his/her self into what they create. WP7 is exactly that.
Do other systems currently have more features than WP7? Yes. But I was fully aware of the setup from the git-go. I knew a lot of features would be temporarily absent when I bought my HD7. But the good news is, there's an update scheduled for Jan that is *rumored* to be massive and provide so much more functionality that it will seem like WP8.
Compared to automobiles, WP7 is more akin to a Mercedes Benz or Lexus or Infiniti, whereas the other systems are more akin to ordinary cars. The world's leading software makers, who made Windows 7, which is the best and fastest selling PC OS in history and massively praised from every corner of the spectrum, have put together the world's best mobile OS in WP7.

The car analogy is a good one, I like android but it is like a fully loaded Ford (no disrespect) whereas WP7 is like a Ferrari, it oozes quality and design integrity, just doesn't have all the "toys" yet, but it will do.
just to add to that, i think if you give it a couple of months, play the wait and see game. there is a lot of hype around the first update, and althrough i have already jumped on the windows phone 7 bandwagon, i would suggest that if you're in no real rush, wait till the update comes out, and then compare windows phone to android, and ensure that it has all that you desire in a phone. and if it doesn't, are you willing to give up these things for what you may not have in android (e.g. uniformity, battery life [maybe?], and stability).

android is not very stable
wp7 will be the best ...
If, as you say, you'll be waiting until Spring, then you'll already have the first update, maybe even a second one, and the biggest missing features will be there, so I'd say, go for it.
Well i think im going to switch once verizon gets a win7 phone that i like. You guys were very helpful and i think i will like windows alot better once i pick one up and use one, android has just become to aggravating for me lol.

If you haven't, I'd say go to an at&t or t-mobile store and try it out. I'm a 6.5 to 7 convert who's also used android and 7 is a blast to use. As it's been said, if this January update does come on time and does the fixes they're hyping, it might be the best OS out there.
In Poland WP7 is upcoming soon.....
I also have a Samsung Fascinate - with the help of the devs here on XDA it is a very usable phone running leaked Android 2.2 builds (and the official update appears to be finally coming out today or tomorrow).
That said, I would shell out a few bucks to Microsoft for a version of WP7 that could be installed on the Fascinate...
Wishful thinking, I realize... particularly being on a CDMA carrier - but I gotta wonder why there aren't devices being offered that can run a choice of OSes.
I suspect there are a number of GSM phones out there running Android on hardware that could support WP7 (and vis-versa). the economics and support hurdles of such an offering obviously make the ODMs and carriers shy away from this idea, but for the population of mobile device enthusiasts who hang out on forums like this, it would be a pretty cool selling point for a phone to be able to run WP7 or Android.
[EDIT] I just searched a bit and saw that XDA folks have done an Android-or-WP7 dual boot config on the HTC HD2... How's that working out?
ohhh, this is an interesting thread a few months later !
Any good "dual-bootable" (WP7 + Android) hardware out there?

Yeah - perhaps I should've started a new thread for the dual-boot question - sort of changed the topic.
Everyone knows what i am thinking about android, and now we are clean from this crappy os, thank you xda admins. Know we can discuess here witouth disturb of ... users.
It is beter for all. no need for 2 oses in one section.
And know i will say it officialy i am an android hater and doing everything to bring this os to fall. it is easy cause google makes at his own mistakes in last time, my friends would never buy android and there are even more and more, when they hear about viruses ... and so on, no need to list everything yet.
ok i am happy that i doesnt must read here anymore android sh...
i already gave me a one star vote
That crappy OS has more than twohundred-thousand apps already on the Market.
Using Android on a Samsung Wave is a chance to survive.
always the same answer, the os is crap and have a lot of apps, what is better? everyone can choose, not everyone need tausend of fart apps, on bada there are 3
Or an apps to sd app... why they cannot built such things in?
Android on wave runs as nothing, its a phone you cannot even call someone, realy bad.

it's crazy
the windows also has viruses , and it's too many than andriod so windows not good?
maybe andriod not good than bada ,but it can free to install any app ,and bada can't ,when bada install a app the phone must online or it can't install successfull ,and bada app can't share to others like the other OS

really depends on the hardware, which some manufacturers have let us down. Most devices from this year are lasting a day or two with heavy use though. Users have demanded better battery life, and they got it. The main problem with android is that people will go buy some ****ty device (sony x10 for example) and think all android phones are like that. People have no clue about tech, they dont look to see what the battery is rated at, dont bother to find out what kind of cpu/gpu the device has, dont bother to research what a device can actually do. For something that we stare at for hours a day it seems, I cant understand the behaviour. Bada is pretty good, but it seems a bit pointless unless samsung makes more money from it somehow.
Im ok no need make's 7 picture difference just Samsung do like Apple make's real OS for Phone and Bada 2 its an example you can see. Its works realy like an Iphone GUI !!! Android use too much processus and memory there's why your phone need battery charge all time !!!

blaaaarrrg please stop, an "iPhone GUI" cannot be referred to as "good" and bada deserves better than to be compared to that garbage in any way
large difference: a bada smartphone has more than one stupid button on the front
Ok no one makes any sence at all.
I know English is not everyones primary or even secondary launguage but try at least to make sence when trying to make an argument.
Facts of the matter is take the Android Appstore away and what do you have .... ..... ......
Yes exacetely.
Its the only arguable point Android holds over any of the other OS's.
Same applies to a IdontPhone ... take the appstore away and you have a ? ... .... .....
Yes Exacetely.
For ppl that want 7 cazillion apps thats useless sure go for Android or iOS...
For ppl that want a funtional phone that can do exacetely the same at 1/4 the price ... Bada is maybe not such a bad idea.
I for one supports Bada and would like to see it grow in the market. More choice = more competition = reduced prices.
And no I dont need a app that i can take a dump on my screen and the app tells me "Holly crap you just Shat on your screen" thanks mr obvious ... its pointless

touchwiz 4.0 is the same on both android and bada. As far as end user experience goes the 2 arent much different, except bada has less support and gets put on lesser hardware.
Well, I use both Android as well as Bada....On 2 separate phones, you see! I never wanted Android on The Bada series....Bada has its own specialties. If you ever wanted an Android, why did you choose Bada at the first! Senseless! Totally not worthy! I love Bada for what it is and android for what it is!

You started the war remember?
You were first to pick up the stone so dont be surprised if they threw stones back at you.
if you have just kept off the childish comments, you could've avoided this.
(im not criticizing you but i am saying you shouldnt be suprised if people reacted
against the negative things you said)
Also whether you evangelize on bada or not, the way you did it, actually turned people off, plus the fact that you also made other bada users look uncool.
There is no reason to piss off android developers or android users or iOS users.
Instead of converting them you just turned them off from BADA, not by
BADA's fault but by your attitude.
I think as i read the unaccessary critik from people on 2.0 posts that even havent testet it yet that i am not the first one who has thrown the frist stone, you should read them before.
Also it is not neccessary for users that even dont ever had an bada phone come here and critizise me or other for supporting a non android based phone, is this fair?
People that like to have illegal apps, they are criminal and i will never support such ones, people that like android as it is, are something different, they pay their apps and everybody is happy. but i also see in ports only hacking of paid apps, and no developer likes this.
A developer makes his own things like apps or such stuff, and if we make good work than why not to pay us? the main thing is that i hate people that are using illegal software not they that uses it to support the hard work of people.
What would you think when you loose 50% of your money every month, why some people think it is not fair to pay for apps.
I have said the main part, i know many intelligent android users that uses the system with care and pay for there stuff, but the black side is larger.
There are differences
Developer = Makes apps to earn money or just for fun and free
Hacker = uses other sources to change a system sometimes in good minds sometimes it harms the first group
Android port of oleg is positive
but the hacking of paid apps from nearly everyone is negative. and stealing always overlays the other part.
In a way i can understand some of the views in this thread. But to say android is junk and has viruses? Does linux? Maybe a handfull. Much more likely to get one with WinMo. Or windows for that matter. Android is much more efficient and better off than WinMo will ever be. And i was a hardcore WinMo user. Android has TONs more to offer than WinMo. Not so sure on Bada OS as i have not used it.
But i can have over 200mb free on a Reboot and have all apps loaded into mem and ready to go. No using any CPU cycles. Can any other phone O.S do that? .
Not to mention the endless mods kernel wise and O.S... So not sure where the Anti android comes from other that you have only used it on your device. Just as i did back years ago. On WinMo. And sure it was not good at all. But also not supposed to be on that device to begin with. So just wait. It will only get better for your devices. Much faster and much smoother. Wait and see.
And on that thought. Thread locked before a Flame war starts
Truth be told the recent updates did nothing that I can place my hand on , just what will Mango , obvioulsy Microsoft claims it will be able to do everything , but what is everything , I remember all the cry babies whining about copy/paste , so far Ive used it once , not a big deal there , what else , security updates and firmware? So just what is Mango gonna do ?
My phone is a Focus developer unlocked , its fun to mess with and Ive taken it apart (mechanically/ OMG the warranty is no good, woo hoo!) , all fun and games ,I enjoy playing with the registry and other things , but hell you can do that with just about every phone out there ,what will Mango bring to set us apart?
In other words , What is it that Mango is doing that will make or break the OS? That will make or break Microsoft for the Phone business ( WP7 wont knock Microsoft out though even if it fails)! Microsoft has bought enough patents to keep all the manufacturers in its pockets for years to come !
The features Mango brings integrated itself are amazing. The improved messaging, photos, music, people, just everything it does itself will definitely be worth your time. However, the biggest thing Mango does is open the doors for developers with the new apis, allowing numerous apps to be created which weren't able to be made before, from sockets to background services, to self updating live tiles... The BBC app over in the apps section is just a small taste of this.
Many of the features people expect in a smartphone (and need) weren't there on release, and those are going to be a big part of this platform getting adopted. Mango is bringing pretty much everything 'most' people need (and more), so I would say its pretty big for getting mass consumer adoption.
I'm assuming Tango will bring much needed enterprise additions which will help them move further into the enterprise as well.
Is there any kind of blog or list of features that MS publishes to show what features/items/ road plan they have for the new WP7? I'm new to the whole thing and have a lot to learn about how this new OS works and functions.
I haven't even been with Smartphones for very long either, finally just "upgrading" from my Axim x51v and separate phone just about 1 1/2 years ago. Prior to that, I'd always been really happy with my phone for talking and PDA for working for the past 12 years.

***Nice List Here***
I think the short of it is that Mango is crucial primarily because the update brings major software parity features to Windows Phone currently missing that are present in other major mobile platforms like a form of multitasking, fast app switching, better service integration (Twitter), support for services like Skype, and a much better, more capable browser. On the hardware side it will be the second batch of hardware. While Windows Phone runs very smooth on my Focus, it remains to be seen how well it performs with Mango and future updates.

Information like that is typically kept close to the chest. We probably won't find out anything about post-Mango updates until early next year. Any earlier and it gives competition a chance to steal ideas.
Well after my first full day with Mango 7712 it's my opinion that Mango will immediately bring WP7 up to the same level as Android and iOS; and past them both in some areas. With the right marketing for the holidays, a proper explosion of devices from Nokia by Q1-Q2 2012, and by the holidays next the mobile market will be a true 3 horse race.
I got my Focus on 11/8/10 at store opening. To this day I have only seen one WP7 device in the wild, at a concert. Not a single friend, family member, or coworker has one. Most of those people have Android devices, except for two Iphone 4's. All of those people love my Focus. My dad can't wait to dump his Iphone for a WP7 device. (Don't worry dad I'm keeping my Focus pretty to trade for your upgrade in Feb ) A lot of those people have an upgrade in the following months. With out Mango I have at least 8 people excited to upgrade to WP7. Once I show them Mango it will pretty much put 6-8 more WP7 users in the mix no latter then Christmas.
I wouldn't worry about the performance of mango.. it runs better than NoDo.
My focus is faster than it has ever been.
Mango is a critical update for this OS. It brings near feature parity and gives developers the APIs they need to make excellent apps with deeper functionality than was previously allowed.
Mango will allow developers to do things with applications that can't be done on other platforms, such as linking to a particular part of an application via a pinned live tile or passing a piece of meta data into an application from the OS (such as passing a movie information card into IMDB or another app that handles movies for more in-depth information or passing a book card from a bing vision search into the Kindle app or similar application)
Microsoft will need to do a better job of marketing these upcoming devices.. almost everyone who plays with my Focus loves it.. and that was before Mango, but they are struggling at retail.

I ebeleive Mango is better than what IOS is rolling out so far.
IOS lack integration, Mango is in some ways better than IOS especially the twitter, facebook apps,, unified messaging, UI and other things as well...
I think Mango is very important for WP7 to really establish itself as ecosystem, Mango is really filling a lot of the basic needs people previously might have dismissed OS because of, while adding tight integration to social networking sites and other much needed features.
Not to mention the miss-conception regarding Windows Mobile and Windows Phone, even phone sites to this day tends to **** up and call it Windows Mobile every other WP7 article, maybe they should have called it something else than Windows like they did with Xbox?
And to be honest, I couldn’t with a clear conscience recommend other people WP7 when I first got it, because of the lack of a localized OS/marketplace, navigation app, copy/paste and multitasking to mention a few things, it just wasn’t up to par with the currently released smartphones. However with Mango, I can clearly say that it’s up to par and even surpassing in some respects.
As for Nokia it’s very much a do or die situation regarding the smartphone world, with their stocks plummeting and the poor success with MeeGo as their smartphone OS. Hopefully they can bring some real marketing out there, especially in Europe where they’re strong and a nostalgic brand; I even know a bunch of people that are still using their Nokia “dumbphones”.
I really hope Microsoft doesn’t shoot itself in the foot this time with the new Mango phones and gets a varied and good enough hardware lineup to compete with the newest Android/iPhone phones. And really gets WP7 devices out in the stores for people to try.
As for the carrier conundrum in especially the US, not having a choice of all the phones you like. E.g. only having the choice of a HTC Trophy on Verizon might have scared away potential customers, even though it’s not a bad device. I really hope this way of carrier monopoly goes away sooner than later.
To end this rather long post, I’d like to say that I would wish for WP7 to have huge success with Mango, because I really like the OS itself and its excellent development tools, as well as their dedication to the developers. WP7 has come a long way in a year and now it’s time to go from very small to smallish/medium at least.

Truth to be told, if you have it developer unlocked (that 100$ unlock, not follow-the-chevron-tutorial-unlocked), and you know how to tweak it. Then I assume you know at least where to read the breaking new features of Mango?
If not then your skill is kind of.. lacking
Think the sooner Mango is released the more "press" WP7 will get. One thing I have recently noticed is the lack of adverts for WP7 compared to when it first came out.
Perhaps they are waiting for Mango?
I dont know why ppl even try to answer questions like the ones in opening post....
when its clear that they are not real questions ...
Just a catchy title like "How importand is Mango ?" and nothing more ....
Dont do it guys ...Dont answer and leave those so called questions to the man who has them...
So from what I gathered, Mango is just getting WP7 up to par with iOS and Android, and the only thing they're really 'adding' is the integrated apps (and to some extent just making the messaging/twitter/live tile updates)?
what is it going to do to make itself stand out? that's what i want to konw

i've met people, and have friends, who still thinks wp7 is wm
when they ask to play with my phone, they fiddle with it, ask me what os is it, and return me the phone when i mention WINDOWS
seriously, ms can do everything right wrt the os, but when it comes to marketing it to people, i think the damage done to their reputation during the iphone vs wm days is something that they will have to think of how to rectify
it may just be too much

Absolutely. I think most of people "run away screaming" hearing Windows.
The damage is done big time. But I still think lack of features in most countries doesn't help it either, like no Marketplace or native letters etc.
So in those unsupported countries WP established itself as... Not that good.
The campaign changing the direction will be very very long. I think it will take years to change things. It's not "hot" in any way...
It's a pity, as an "average" OS for "normal" consumer it may be very cool.
Think about this for a second. Have Android and iOS improved by leaps and bounds from their initial releases? Not much, when a new phone comes out there is less and less emphasis on the software and more on the hardware. "It's thinner, it's lighter, it's has dual core" etc.
Mango is WP7 playing catchup in the software department (and some minor improvements). It elevates WP7 from an inferior offering to a similar one of the top two contenders. So in that sense, yes it is important.
