After updating to android 2.3, I have a strange issue with my HTC dialer (DHD, not rooted, LauncherPro):
1) I launch the dialer, it is empty. There are no contacts listed.
2) I type a contact name (sms style), the list stays empty.
3) I use the backspace button to remove the digits that I pressed
4) When all digits are remove, suddenly the list populates with my contacts!
5) When I now type a contact name (exactly like step 2) the list properly filters down accordingly.
Has anybody seen similar behavior? And possibly some suggestions to solve it?
BR,
Brrt
I had a similar problem, I tried an alternate dialler, which was fine. However, after an update it FC'd all the time, after un-installing the std dialler returned to normal. no problems since.

I had a same problem.
Solution: just clear the call history and everything will be fine.
Regards.
I also had that problem.
Thou, different solution.
Unpin phone shortcut on homescreen in Launcherpro, pin it again, and everything will be fine.
great, thanks all!
Markosmi, I've tried you're solution (unpin phone shortcut from launcherpro and add it in again) and that works superb!
Great! i'm glad that worked out without much fuss.

Hi,
Is anyone having any problems with viewing email synchronised from non-outlook sources? We use websphere everyplace client at work, and everything syncs fine, however when you click on the message header within "messaging" you get a blank (white) screen. I cannot view any detail at all from the messages, and have spent the last 2 days mucking about with various settings (Changing the inbox options to get full copy of messages etc) to no avail. I am currently working back on WM2005 with no problems, but would love to go back to black!
Any assistance would be fantastic.
Cheers,
Rob

rvaker, not sure what you mean, but kind of similar problem I have now too. I also get the "blank screen" but the thing is that the program scrolls down by itself the message, thus you see only white screen. If you see the scroll bar, scroll back up. I've got confused first time too, and thought it's not working. But at the moment, I don't know how to fix this and have the message on top right away without scrolling.
non outlook email reading and writng problem
Hi there.
I have same problem as well. With help of scrolling buttons I can read my email, however there is no opportunity to write new email or reply emails (white screen appear to screen).
How we can solve this problem? I am using vodafone push-email services.
Juha
I had a problem like this. My SMS and emails would always scroll down the screen when i opened them and had to use the bar to scroll back up to read it. Only thing i changed when this started happening was a reg change to navigation in IE and when i undid the change, it was fine again.
The change i made can be found in the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
About half way down under the Pocket IE (PIE) section. Its the one to Navigate PIE up/down with the four-way pad.
May be worth having a look at your registry and undoing this change if its been made!
Thanks very much, JamesAub and GuzuGuzu. I'll re-flash black tonight (my time!) and give it a go!
I keep having to reset my phone preferences (such as my ring- I only want it to ring once) but it keeps resetting the settings to the default for the phone.
Is anyone else having this happen on their Sprint TP2?
***bump***
are you changing your ring settings through the touch flo 3d shell (settings>sound) or going through the traditional windows mobile settings (settings>sounds & notifications)?
My ring settings stick for both methods (or my phone says). I don't get calls enough for me to notice if settings stick.
maybe your ringtone is very long, so it sounds like it's ringing more then once?
I do experience a setting that I want to stick but doesn't. when you open phone, you choose menu > view. Default is "calls and contacts" but I only want "all calls". I can choose it and it'll filter, but when I close phone and reopen, it'll reset to "calls and contacts". =/
Thanks, Tone.
The ring is not long- it's an old fashioned phone ringer. The actual setting changes fron "Ring once" to "Ring."
I am setting it under the options on the dialer screen. I haave also gone through "Settings"; makes no difference.
So I recently hard reset my phone due to some other issues, but I tested if your problem again, and the settings are still fine on my end.
Out of curiosity, do you know what Manila version you have (along with what phone version)?
Mine is Sprint, Manila version 2.1.38416.1.
You can find the manila version with Reg Edit and go to "
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila"
String Value "Version" tells you the Manila version.
If you don't have reg edit, or don't know how to do it, that's ok, just phone version should be enough. I've been discovering from customizing my phone and researching on XDA, that Manila may have different bugs depending on what Manila version you have (and most likely a different Manila version is attached with different carriers).
Same Manila version.
Has been hard reset twice, but the problem persists...
oh boo, that sucks. if you have a phone replacement/repair plan with sprint, I say go to them and tell them the issue. I always ***** at sprint with whatever problem that can't be solved. it's a defect in the software/hardware and if you have the replacement/repair plan, they won't charge anything for repairs. and if they can't repair it themselves, they'll send out a request for a 'new' phone replacement. sometimes its brand new, sometimes its refurbished. depends what they have in stock.
I can not get my phone to filter contacts by just device contacts it always defaults back to all contacts making me have dupes. Anyone else have this or know how to make the setting stick?

this is what I do (if you have contacts on your sim).
enter phone app (call button).
press "contacts" (left soft key) to open contacts (manila shell).
press "menu" (right soft key).
choose "view".
listed is "all", "contacts" and "sim". choose "contacts" to list only device stored contacts.
settings stick for me. but I don't have contacts on my sim card to verify. however, the setting itself doesn't change back.
if you go to contacts (windows app version), I believe you can't do this, because there is no option for it.
this is one reason why I think manila is kind of retarded. it just covers up windows mobile, but there are still multiple front ends / GUI for the same things.
no real help, but i set my phone to ring and vibrate, and every now and then it reverts to just ring!!!
I was having the same problem until I noticed
the Single Volume control. It is above the Phone
controls on the settings panel. I turned it off
and now the phone ring settings stay the way I
set them.
it's a known issue for Sprint TP2's. it will be fixed with ROM update to WM6.5. in the meantime, check out this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=83378&highlight=jfrancisny&page=4. Post #36 fixed it for me.
Hi all.
Just installed LeeDroid HD v3.3.3 GB R5 PORT A2SD on my Desire A8181. Seems really nice but have noticed a few quirks that I haven't found any info on (apologies if I missed something, been searching for 20 mins).
If I open the Phone menu, my contact list is blank. Typing numbers does nothing (no contacts shown). Typing one number and deleting it brings up the contact list and then the Phone menu works normally (smart dial etc).
Pressing call still calls the top entry in the (invisible) contact list.
The All Messages pane shows the name of the message recipient, but when opening/ editing the message it only displays a number in the To: field.
That, and Sense 3 pack caused bootloops/ screen just showing wallpaper & notification bar, unresponsive => battery pull. But I think this has been dealt with elsewhere.
And the market is painfully slow, but I have a feeling that's down to the market app itself?
Cheers!
If you've just installed the ROM and are running it for the first time you will have to wait for a while whilst it syncs with your GMail account and pulls all the contacts over - perhaps you have connectivity issues or GMail is down?
Have you checked out the FAQ. You might get a better response if you post to the main thread.
I also think the Market app is slow, compared to the older version BTW.
Thanks for the response.
Contacts are fully syncd (google, facebook & skype). In the Contacts pane all is well. All contacts list & appear with Facebook images. Links all fine. It's just in the Phone pane that they don't immediately show.
Can't post in the main thread (new member )
I'm thinking about downgrading the market again. It seems OK over wifi, but deathly slow with 3G.
I recently rooted and am using the Clutch ROM which has been working great for the most part.
My issue is:
When I go to the 'messages' app, which still seems to be stock HTC, and type in the 'to:' field to select a name, no filtered contact list pops up so I have to click on the person icon and select a contact from the whole list
Notes:
I noticed that on my un-rooted phone, there were two message apps (or at least icons). Similarly, I had a Facebook app and a Facebook for HTC app which did completely different things (the facebook for htc app worked entirely on syncing the phone with contacts/calendars/etc...) and I thought that maybe the second message app somehow synced everything properly however I may be mistaken.
Does anyone know anything about this? I appreciate, in advance, any help from you guys.
Thanks,
Jon
Generally very happy with new G3 (on Optus network in Australia), but two weird things driving me nuts.
1. With several apps open, hit the home button. All good, end up on home screen. Then hit the open apps button and it says 'No recent apps'. Repeat above steps and now it shows all those running apps and you have an enabled option to Clear All or can individually swipe them off.
Any one else seeing this. Never saw this with Nexus 5 I just lost and replaced with G3.
2. The keyboard entry on the Nexus 5 (if I recall correctly) worked pretty much the same for emails as it did for say SMS messages or Hangouts messages. i.e. if you had a bad typo you could position back into the word and all suggested corrections appeared to allow you to replace the typo. This is how SMS/Hangouts works but seems other text entry functions don't do this correction process the same way. Is it up to each app developer to control how this works or do they all use the common keyboard text entry 'widget' or control??
3. Hangouts. Seems that all of a sudden (probably an app update?) Hangouts (which I have selected as my default messaging app) tries to send a Hangouts message instead of a regular SMS. This is fine if the received has Hangouts activated on their device/account, but many of my contacts don't and I've suddenly realised they what I thought were SMS messages sent correctly have just gone into the ether. So step by step, if I go to Hangouts, search for a contact, select contact and start typing, I can see that it is telling me it's sending a Hangouts message, not an SMS. If instead I explicitly scroll in Hangouts through my contacts, and select one, it pops up their contact details and I get the option to select a message icon. When I now get back to start typing the message, it now shows the mobile number it will SMS (not Hangout message) to. This works fine, but is different behaviour to a week ago.
For all of the above, apologies if I simply don't understand the apps or OS fully yet. Learning ...
You can either clear all of swipe each to kill the app.
The stock keyboard sucks in my opinion. I use the Google keyboard without any issues.

Thanks - but my issues is that it says no active apps, and the Clear All button is greyed out. Repeat the process and now the apps which I know are open, are all there. The question is why first display of apps thinks there is nothing there.

Install a 3rd party keyboard, then set your new keyboard to be the default keyboard. Now restart your device and Disable the stock keyboard with something like titanium backup, reboot once more to be sure it is gone and notice how much smoother everything is... Most lag disappears... Just goes to show how crap the stock keyboard really is...

I've noticed this as well, only ever happens when I have more than a couple of apps open, it's like the phone fails to register what apps are open or something, but as you said if I try doing it again, they appear there open
Very strange, probably just a bug or something that will be fixed in a Firmware update...

Yeah me too. Even after complete restore to stock.
Recent app menu is some funny bug.
And about your keyboard. I'd ditch it for google keyboard and lag will be gone.

Yeah I caved to pressure today and switched to TouchPalX. I've had it for years but decided to give the default LG keyboard a go, but after today's update I just gave up. Now, I've never had a smoother typing experience in my life!
