I rooted my phone with no issues, but I can't get my brother's to take.
I have debugging enabled, I have it in charge only, htc sync is not installed on the computer, and I am running Windows 7. I installed the hboot drivers, run unrevoked3, it does its thing, but then it says "failed to flash recovery image". Then the phone reboots and works like normal. It does not get S-Off and there is no recovery. What's going on? His is an SLCD.
It did that once when I rooted a friends inc. Just retried it and it worked fine.

I have never been able to use Windows 7 to use Unrevoked to get root. I have always had to use an Ubuntu live cd to get it to take.

Can use z4root:

I tried 3 times with the same result every time. I know windows 7 used to be a problem, but I figured they fixed that issue. Is there anything else that would be causing this?

With Windows it's all about the drivers that are installed, and making the proper satanic sacrifices.
Give the Ubuntu live CD a try, since it wont have to worry about windows drivers, couple other people I work with had to go that route because Windows was being a pain.

So install a completely new OS just to root?

You don't have to install anything. You can run the OS from the CD itself.

Try hard reset & then unrevoked. I had the same issues until I did this.
The problem is he doesn't want to lose all his apps/game data. He about lost it when his SD card was unreadable - though I was able to fix it.
I appreciate all the suggestions. If it comes down to it, I will just do the hard reset.
With the ubuntu CD, I can just run the OS from the CD, download Unrevoked from within ubuntu, then run it?

Yes, that easy. Just be sure to run it with sudo(superuser permission).

I read that suggested on androidforums as well... The instructions say to keep it on charge only, so that's why I didn't try 'disk drive'. Seems logical to try that though...

I've had my phone rooted for about 2 weeks now. I've been playing around with ROMs and their all great. Now, I have a huge problem and I don't know how to solve it. My phone loops on me when I try to get into Recovery (Clockwork). what should I do? ADB is not working anymore. FREAKIN Windows 7!!! I have an unrevoked bootscreen and the phone stalls. So I have no ROM on the phone. Any help getting my phone working again would be appreciated.

Have you tried to reflash the Clockwork?
Did you update your radio? If not RUU it. It will wipe you back to the pre root stock image.

he said he can't get into clockwork so he won't be able to do any of that.
ok. I'm liking what I'm seeing because it sounds like this is fixable. However, The phone has been completely wiped and I'm lost as to what to do to try to recover an image. Please point me to a link with directions.
ps - Thanks for all the help.
Do you need a clockwork image? Its at www.unrevoked.com/forever
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I have a copy of clockwork, but how can I flash it when I can't use unrevoked because I can't get any further than the initial boot screen on the phone to establish USB debugging.
Put it into a PB31IMG.zip with an android info.txt from a splash screen....MAKE SURE THAT THE CLOCKWORK IMAGE IS NAMED recovery.img
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I also have s-off. I'm probably over thinking this whole thing. If I could get clockwork back on the phone, things would be fixable very quickly.
You are awesome. Worked like a charm!!! Thank you so much!!!

So recently I tried running unrevoked 3.32 on my Evo. Unrevoked pushed all the files, flashed unrevoked forever, rebooted, then even after my phone rebooted sat on rebooting. After around 10 minutes of waitng, I would unplug the phone. One thing I noticed however was that when this happened, my phone can not be recognized by my computer again until I restart it. Any ideas?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10
My hardware version is 0003, hboot 2.10, and software version 3.70.651.1
Note: When booting into the bootloader, it shows s-off so I know unrevoked forever was successful, however, I have no recovery flashed and no root.
I've seen this same issue, but in Windows. All the Windows user has to do is reboot PC and restart UR3 until it succeeds. Linux is likely different.
UR3 sometimes gets hung up and you just need to restart the process until it completes.

Thanks for the advice, will give this a shot.
After a restart can your computer see the sdcard? Maybe you can put the newest Amon_RA recovery PC36IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard so that bootloader will see it and install it. Then you can get into recovery, add the ROM of your chowing on there and flash it and be back up and running instead of being stuck in bootloop hell.

Its a bit off topic but i wanted to see if any of you can help me out ive got an hp touchsmart 600 running windows 7my the problem im having is that it wont boot up any more and it gets stuck on the windows starting iam able to boot it under safe mode ive tried using the recovery discs and it also freezes any ideas? Thank you
Was any software or hardware added, changed or removed since the last time it did boot up normally ?
Forgot to mention i did get a maleware or spyware thru a website called "cloud av 2012" and inremoved it by booting it in to safe mode and runing malewarebites program
If you can boot into safe mode, it should be possible to perform a system restore to a point before you got infected.

Get a real windows disk and wipe it ..... You will lose everything but it will work ..... Its very hard to get rid of those infections...
It may be easier to install mint & not worry about those infections again ...means you will have to learn linux but much better than windows ... Or if you need its really easy to dual boot it now ... Install windows clean first and then mint or ubuntu ...

Download a live environment boot disk that will load an OS right off the cd and work from there. if it's boot issues, the windows 7 boot disk has a repair option that surprisingly fixes most boot issues without reinstallation. The live environment disk will let you view your hard drive, so if you're going for a full wipe, you can backup w.e files you want

Hi, Guys I just installed ubuntu on my HTC IND2 & I don't like it it sucks...How do I uninstall it? I have searched the web I have no luck...it only shows for the PC version... Pls. Help. Thanks.
If you can get into the bootloader and get into recovery, then you could theoretically flash another ROM to get off Ubuntu, but idk installing Ubuntu might have overwritten that. That would be the easiest method, though.

hi, I used the adb terminal emulator in my phone. I deleted the ubuntu file in the sd card & VNC... I don't now if it was fully uninstalled....? Ubuntu will only appear if i connect through VNC running some commands... like cd/sdcard/ubuntu then sh ubuntu.sh

Ubuntu only runs on top of my android system if I run it in the adb terminal emulator and connects to VNC....I deleted the ubuntu file on my sd card...& vnc but I'm not sure if it was fully uninstalled . It's like running 2 Operating system at 1 phone.
So even after deleting the ubuntu image you can still load it in terminal? That is all you have to do to install it from your phone.
