If dropbox is installed, remove it. SD is fat32, and has room on it?

You get this to work?
If so, what was not working right earlier?

I rooted my phone with no issues, but I can't get my brother's to take.
I have debugging enabled, I have it in charge only, htc sync is not installed on the computer, and I am running Windows 7. I installed the hboot drivers, run unrevoked3, it does its thing, but then it says "failed to flash recovery image". Then the phone reboots and works like normal. It does not get S-Off and there is no recovery. What's going on? His is an SLCD.
It did that once when I rooted a friends inc. Just retried it and it worked fine.

I tried 3 times with the same result every time. I know windows 7 used to be a problem, but I figured they fixed that issue. Is there anything else that would be causing this?

With Windows it's all about the drivers that are installed, and making the proper satanic sacrifices.
Give the Ubuntu live CD a try, since it wont have to worry about windows drivers, couple other people I work with had to go that route because Windows was being a pain.

You don't have to install anything. You can run the OS from the CD itself.

Try hard reset & then unrevoked. I had the same issues until I did this.
The problem is he doesn't want to lose all his apps/game data. He about lost it when his SD card was unreadable - though I was able to fix it.
I appreciate all the suggestions. If it comes down to it, I will just do the hard reset.
With the ubuntu CD, I can just run the OS from the CD, download Unrevoked from within ubuntu, then run it?

any help would be much appreacited thanks in advanced
With USB debugging on, plug your phone in and go to Device Manager and under samsung android choose update driver from Windows Update. Let it find all the drivers. You could also try Odin with the battery out.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Try plugging your phone in after its already In download mode... odin never recognizes my phone unless it was in download mode before I plugged it in....
use a different usb cable
i bet you are booting the phone into download mode while being connected to odin. correct? if i'm right, you can't do that. do what flastnotes says
I've tried connecting while already in download mode still nothing tried different cables still nothing I'm lost

Uninstall and Reinstall the drivers.... this phone can be very finiky... sometimes you gotta just uninstall and reinstall drivers and try different cables... its annoying but eventually it will connect.... idk why everyone has problems with odin... never once had a single problem... every phone and cpu is different though... just keep trying, it'll connect eventually...

If you uninstall the drivers and then just replug your phone in your cpu "should" install them on its own... that's how I did it and it worked for me....
Can you connect to your phone via your computer when your phone is on and you select USB?
If yes, then your phone should not be broken, and it should be a cord/usb port/driver issue
Did you try a different USB port as well?
Also, did you try a different version of Odin?

It is definitely a driver issue. Do what was recommended and remove the drivers. Then turn on usb debugging, plug in the phone and let Windows rescan for drivers. Wait until it gets all of them. There are 5 I think.

So I've tried flashing both CM9 and CM10 roms but no matter what I do I can't get it to recognize my sdcard or my internal storage on my Mac. I've even tried formatting the card to fat32 and still nothing. Any ideas what I should do to get this to work? How is it working for you guys? I would post this in the CM threads but I rather not clutter it with questions. Thanks in advance
What do you mean it won't recognize your sdcard? The recovery won't read it? If so, which recovery do you have?

When connected, you should get a notification telling you that your phone is connected via USB.
Select it, and make sure that it's connected as PTP.
MTP does not work on Macs.

Thats exactly what I use when Im on FREE GS3 rom, but whenever I switch to a CM9 or CM10 rom it just doesnt mount. Im starting to think maybe its the kernel CM based roms are using
PTP currently does not work on Cm9/10 roms, which is why your having problems it is the main reason keeping me away from using either one as a daily driver for now
Any updates on this? I'm using the latest CM10 nightly - it would sure be nice to be able to connect to my Mac.

Being a Mac user I know the issue you are talking about. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a Boot Camp partition. In finder open Applications-Utilities-Boot Camp. There will be a printable tutorial. The Boot Camp application literally walks you through the process. I have found this method far better than running a V.M.
still no fix?
Hi

Is it possible to root the Nexus without a computer?
There was a way to install adb and fastboot an Android tablet or another phone a while back. Although I am not sure if it is still possible (the sdk updated, and I am not sure if they updated). Edit for clarification: Which if it is, you could use a tablet and an OTG cable to achieve root. Which technically would mean you don't need a PC.
Though, to actually answer your question, no you need a computer.

Solve that problem then. Try different cables, different USB ports (if on desktop try one on the back of the PC). Try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Try another PC.
If all of that fails, it may be a hardware issue with the phone.

Hey fellaz,
Earlier, I was installing some apps for a custom keyboard. I was notified by Android that I needed to update the APK installer (I cannot remember the exact dialog) which I installed. After that, whenever I tried to open ANY .apk file, it kept saying the installer has stopped working. Couple minutes later, the phone rebooted and was stuck in a loop.
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856188&page=4 , but I am completely new to working with ADB. I did manage to install the SDK and update it. I booted into Recovery mode and tried the command 'adb backup -all' (given in another thread) and I was given "adb: unable to connect for backup."
Unless I did something wrong, I doubt ADB would work since I'm not booted into the phone right? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30826050&postcount=32)
I would just like to back up maybe one or two folders that are crucial to me.
Any advice? Is there anything Verizon can do if I take it into the store?
Thanks!
EDIT: Forgot to add that I have the phone completely stock. I'm debating whether or not to do a hard reset as I'm reading conflicting reports of sdcard being saved and not being saved.
Thats your problem. Adb works only on custom recovery's. There is a thread on flashing the stock image via fastboot without wiping data. I think thats your only solution..

you do not need usb debugging for fastboot so do not worry about turning that on.
