Help: Uninstall Ubuntu? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi, Guys I just installed ubuntu on my HTC IND2 & I don't like it it sucks...How do I uninstall it? I have searched the web I have no luck...it only shows for the PC version... Pls. Help. Thanks.

If you can get into the bootloader and get into recovery, then you could theoretically flash another ROM to get off Ubuntu, but idk installing Ubuntu might have overwritten that. That would be the easiest method, though.

Did you load it while inside of android or did you fully install it on your phone?

hi, I used the adb terminal emulator in my phone. I deleted the ubuntu file in the sd card & VNC... I don't now if it was fully uninstalled....? Ubuntu will only appear if i connect through VNC running some commands... like cd/sdcard/ubuntu then sh ubuntu.sh

Ubuntu only runs on top of my android system if I run it in the adb terminal emulator and connects to VNC....I deleted the ubuntu file on my sd card...& vnc but I'm not sure if it was fully uninstalled . It's like running 2 Operating system at 1 phone.

So even after deleting the ubuntu image you can still load it in terminal? That is all you have to do to install it from your phone.

SDK not connecting to DINC

Hello all ... I'm new to rooting and I'm having a problem with SDK recognising my phone ... I have been trying to use the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709220 (How 2 - ADB, Rooting(reflash), Unrooting, Nandroid, Remove/Install App, roms, kernels) ... And I can not find the "android_winusb.inf" in the tools folder or the platform-tools folder ... I'm using sdk r10 and Windows Vista 64 ... Any help would be appreciated, Thank you ...
I modded the "android_winusb.inf" file in the sdk drivers zip and moved it to the platform tools folder ... I keep getting "The system cannot the path specified" in the cmd prompt when I type cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools === ...
EDIT: I also installed the My Touch 4g USB drivers and I no longer get the "Drivers not found" popup ...
Nevermind ... I searched the forums and got it rooted and installed Redemption ROM 2.4 with "Heart of the Sunrise" kernel ... Now I just need to get Clockworkmod working right ...

The only thing I can offer is to make sure you are in c:\sdk\platform-tools (or similar directory depending on install location) then do adb devices. My biggest problem was not being in that directory even though I had adb in the path (most likely incorrectly)

Problems rooting Incredible

I rooted my phone with no issues, but I can't get my brother's to take.
I have debugging enabled, I have it in charge only, htc sync is not installed on the computer, and I am running Windows 7. I installed the hboot drivers, run unrevoked3, it does its thing, but then it says "failed to flash recovery image". Then the phone reboots and works like normal. It does not get S-Off and there is no recovery. What's going on? His is an SLCD.
It did that once when I rooted a friends inc. Just retried it and it worked fine.

I have never been able to use Windows 7 to use Unrevoked to get root. I have always had to use an Ubuntu live cd to get it to take.

I tried 3 times with the same result every time. I know windows 7 used to be a problem, but I figured they fixed that issue. Is there anything else that would be causing this?

With Windows it's all about the drivers that are installed, and making the proper satanic sacrifices.
Give the Ubuntu live CD a try, since it wont have to worry about windows drivers, couple other people I work with had to go that route because Windows was being a pain.

You don't have to install anything. You can run the OS from the CD itself.

Try hard reset & then unrevoked. I had the same issues until I did this.
The problem is he doesn't want to lose all his apps/game data. He about lost it when his SD card was unreadable - though I was able to fix it.
I appreciate all the suggestions. If it comes down to it, I will just do the hard reset.
With the ubuntu CD, I can just run the OS from the CD, download Unrevoked from within ubuntu, then run it?

I read that suggested on androidforums as well... The instructions say to keep it on charge only, so that's why I didn't try 'disk drive'. Seems logical to try that though...

Simple as pie. What OS? Windows, Linux, Mac? The steps are the same but different tools are used. Anyways start by following this to unlock your boot loader. http://www.android.gs/how-to-unlock-galaxy-nexus-bootloader/
Once unlocked put it back into fastboot mode and do this.
Fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img then it will write the recovery. At this point you can flash a custom ROM and he worryless or flash a Super user binaries and then delete the stockrecovery scripts that run and delete your custom recovery. http://download.chainfire.eu/212/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip here is the superuser binaries if you would like to stay stock rooted.

There's a certain way to install it. But you can just find the fastboot.exe (in my link) and install PDAnet drivers ( google PDAnet) then you'll be good to go. You'll just have to manually boot into the boot loader which is power off and hold the power button and both volume buttons then you'll be in fastboot mode.

YOU DON'T NEED SDK. Just open up the cmd to the directory where you have fastboot.exe, and then boot your phone into bootloader, and then "fastboot oem unlock". Easy, right?
Now flash custom recovery using "fastboot flash recovery NAME.img" (recovery image must be in same directory as fastboot"
Now "fastboot reboot bootloader"
Use your volume rocker to navigate to recovery mode
On your computer "adb push SuperSU.zip /sdcard/" (or super user of you like)
On your phone, install zip from sdcard, flash SuperSU. Reboot
Now you got root

Is rooting using phone terminal possible?

Is it possible to root the sprint gnex using a android terminal? I can't seem to get the universal root method to work using ubuntu. I am still a Linux newb so that is more likely the cause.
no.
rooting every nexus device is essentially the same thing
unlock bootloader
flash or boot custom recovery
install superSU.zip or use TWRP with built in rooting capability...
you cant use android terminal for it, you need to use a computer....its not difficult
To root using the phone terminal you would need... root access. It's like saying "Can I get to the key behidn this door by using the key behind the door?"
Maybe from another phone as the host, haha.

I installed shiny Rom which isn't pre rooted. The superuser app on the market has a link to a flashable zip file on their website. That's what worked for me when I didn't have access to my pc to do it via abd.

[Q] I am now S-Off w/ Bootloader Unlocked using Firewater!

Okay, so now I can confirm that Firewater worked great - using the temproot method. Where do I go from here? The instructions I've found for installing TWRP were extremely confusing. I had no problems following the directions for Firewater, but this is a different story. Now that I'm unlocked and S-Off, where do I go from here?
Congrats! Well you need to flash a recovery. Get a recovery.img http://flyhalf205.com/getdownload.php?file=recoveries/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-m7vzw.img and place it on your pc in the same folder as the fastboot.exe file. Open a cmd prompt and navigate to the directory where the 2 files are. Boot the phone to bootloader (hboot). Then in the cmd terminal type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
then
Code:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecoveryimg.img
Thank you very much! I do have some questions. Do I need to be rooted? In the bootloader screen it says I am S-Off and Unlocked, but I don't think I am rooted. I have to use the temproot included with Firewater. I downloaded a twrp .img. Am I supposed to flash that? Once that is flashed, am I free to download a custom rom?
Thanks for the info
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
If you are s-off and unlocked all you need to do is flash that recovery i posted, and then flash a rom of your choosing. Most every rom comes pre-rooted. I assume right now you are stock. If you want to stay stock just flash that recovery, then flash superuser thru recovery and you will be rooted.
---------- Post added at 05:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:58 PM ----------
Where did you get the firewater download from, got a link?
Never mind i found it http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
Cool so you were 4.3 with s on and locked boot loader and firewater now has you s off and unlocked. So you just need a custom recovery and then whatever Rom you want.
I was going to ruu back to stock locked and s on to try firewater for fun but I don't want to run into snags so I'll just stay how I am for now.

Linux - Xubuntu to be specific. It seems to only recognize the device half of the time when connected to USB. It hangs indefinitely - 5 min was the longest I would wait. When I select Recovery from the hboot menu, I get a silhouette of my phone with a "NO" symbol through it. This is not normal.
Are you using the quick android sdk or did you download the whole sdk and install platform tools then set path in your home directory profile?

Ex: cd Downloads/firewater
Sudo su

I installed adb and fastboot via apt. I guess assuming that was the optimal way to get it was a mistake. I am assuming now that you need to run temproot beforehand?
Yeah you need the temp root method because your stock and locked, unrooted. Make sure you are admin when you run it.

Yeah to keep from typing Sudo before each command I usually do Sudo su before running any commands.
It will ask for your password then throw you in admin mode. Otherwise you will need to add Sudo before each command.
I use Linux mint 16 but it's built on ubuntu so it should not be different.
