im pretty sure anyway what happened was i went to gingerbread and i flash steal blue and touchwiz launcher 4 and i didn't like the new launcher so i flashed the rom again and it would just go to the end of the boot then vibrate twice and it would reboot over and over and then i tried to Odin the gingerbread again and the same boot thing happened. so then i tried the stock Odin of froyo and it would be fine then when it should push the files it would turn blue, then red(tried twice) and it would freeze on the pc so then when i pulled the battery again and after reading this was ok i tried to go to download mode again and instead i got nothing, ok so i tried clockwork nothing, so then i tried regular boot nothing, o now i have it plugged in in case the battery is low but there no red light and every now and then i try to boot or download mode and nothing so i think its bricked, i just got this off Craigslist traded for hero and i had the replacement thing were its ten bucks a month and was wondering does that work for this phone to?
Edit: it is on a different charger and is getting warm
if you go to the general thread there is a few different things u can try. can you give more info. like when you odin'ed like if you had f reset checked. what tar file ? if you put it in pda or phone.
try pluging it into your pc with the battery out. leave it out for a while and then try booting to dl mode. this has worked for some. no guarantees though. if it doesn't work, you might have a true brick. do you have sprint's TEP? and did you transfer that to this phone when you had them activate it?
Same thing happening on my end. I can ONLY get into Download Mode. No red light when charging, no CWM, no regular boot, no "phone to computer" symbol pops up.. nothing.

i used this to try and get it back step by step(didnt work)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Download this tar SPH-D700-EC05-8Gb-REL.tar
Set up the software:
Extract the odin-pit.zip
Run Odin3+v1.61.exe
Make the following boxes are checked:
Re-Partiton, Auto-reboot, F. Reset Time
Click PIT and select the victory_8G_100528.pit that you extracted previously.
Click PDA and select SPH-D700-EC05-8Gb-REL.tar
Put your phone in Download Mode:
Make sure the USB cord is unplugged
Remove the battery
Reinsert your battery
Hold down the "1" key
While holding the "1" hold down the power button.
The phone should now be displaying a Yellow Triangle with Downloading... (see next post for image of download mode)
Plug the phone into Computer
Under ID:COM, the box should turn yellow and contain the com port. If it doesn't see Troubleshooting at the end.

He said NO Download mode.
Depending on your battery level before these problems started, I wouldn't worry too much just yet. If you have a stand alone battery charger, then charge the battery and try to boot into download mode after the battery is full. Or if you have a charged spare battery, try to get into dl mode with that. I would not think it's truly bricked at this point because you were getting boot loops before it finally stopped working, which tells me that it's not dead.

Is anyone manage to brick the phone already?
How likely/ or stupidity you need to actually bricking the phone?
What is a NO NO and how to avoid it?
That's the question.. thanks!
Main thing is read as much as you can before you do any changes, it helps to check what few sites say.
When I rooted my phone I could not get it to run the update part, tried time and time again, one site said "rename the file to update.zip and paste it" then I read on another site to just call it update as it is already a zip file.....and then it worked, small bit of detail like that stopped it working to start with so if I was you I check a few sites and get all the info you need, but also as many would say if you are that unsure dont take the risk and wait for samsung updates with Kies.

Kies actually failed to update my phone, I have the Korean Galaxy S SHW-M100S, and it showed an update was available. So, I thought I was bricked for about 30 mins, kept trying to get it to work itself out of the problem in recovery mode, after about 4 tries (1 reboot of Windows, plus changing USB ports and 2nd try with this static new config) eventually it did, thank God.
Do not remove usb while in the middle of flashing with odin
Wanna know HOT TO BRICK YOUR PHONE? Right when ODIN start flashing, pull the battery on your phone and see what happens.

I've removed the cable half way and rebooted, and it was fine..
You simply remove the USB cable, battery again, put the battery in, and you'll be able to get to downloader mode.
The phone seems to have a component that ODIN doesn't touch that is read-only that handles download mode. Most hardware devices tend to have safeguards. I haven't confirmed this, but I've noticed the same applies to NAS devices (which tend to have a special redboot which uses tftp).
I have still yet to have seen any evidence of anyone permanently bricking their phone, but I've seen a few cases of "oops, got it working again".
Remember, Samsung are eager to reduce their support costs, and failsafe's are cheap and easy to add.
yes, the odin doesn't touch the 'bootloader' , or the small piece of code that enable the download mode, so there's no way you can brick the phone.
I have tried to repartition the phone while flashing firmware that has nothing except the csc data (i.e. no kernel, no factory rfs, etc) and the flash procedure went succesfully but in actual fact, my phone contains a new set of partitions that contain nothing except the small csc data.
and i still able to reflash, although I must make sure that the phone is totally shutdown (i.e. take out battery, let it stay for awhile before putting back)

I thought in the Big FAQ, it said... do not disconnect the usb-cable but to remove the battery if want to interrupt it...
7.The phone will be flashed and once it’s finished, it will boot up. (Do NOT disconnect the usb-cable, remove the battery or otherwise interrupt this process!)

Similar happened to me,although I didnt pull the battery, the phone just disconnected halfway through the flash.
Had half hour of panic, where I thought it was bricked.
Had to do a few battery pulls, restart PC a couple of times and mess around with different USB ports, but finally got it working.
Have flashed a 3 times since without a problem.

That means you shouldn't do any of those things! So don't disconnect usb, don't remove the battery and don't interrupt the process.

Are you sure that flashing (through ODIN) in any case never touch that "Download Mode" piece of code ? Even you select all the options in ODIN ?
Can anyone confirm this ? Actually I want to play with Kernel and RFS (have some ideas to try) but afraid of full bricking. So if this download mode is always present then I can play with it without any problem.
Waiting for response.

Believe me! you can still access the download menu
The bootloader is almost always writeprotected and cannot be overwritten. You would probably have to connect a cable to some internal port like Jtag to be able to reflash the bootloader section. Atleast that is the case in 99% of all bootloaders. Im very certain that you cannot cripple the bootloader.

gosh man, thanks correcting me but if that's the case, what should i do if it doesn't reboot by itself?
take out the battery, wait for 30 to 60 secs, put the battery in and start phone with vol down + menu + power
Don't disconnect the usb or do anything else while flashing!!!
I removed the usb cable when it started flashing (i thinked it was stuck, happens sometimes), and since it does not boot anymore. I press the power button, volUp + home + power, volDown + home + power... nothing happens.... it's dead, doesn't turn on at all...
after all i have read i think it's almost impossible to brick the sgs since you always get back into download-mode. the only case i read where i believe that it's a goner is flashing with the wrong (in this case the at&t) odin version. those guy's just got a white sreen with at&t logo at boot. they didn't get into download mode any more because the button mapping on the captivate is different ... so thats really bad luck, dont't try that at home

Maybe if it fails when flashig sbl (secondary boot loader ) you can't go into download/recovery mode...

**Edit**
okay so now i odin'd a fresh EC05 install and still no samsung splash screen and i still cant turn it on normally on can get into download mode and turn on with method posted below. does someone think doing a bootloader update with odin will help it? if so can someone provide me the file name required in an odin tar to be able to check the " update bootloader" option?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all backgroun info, I recently odin'd Stock EC05 selected repartition with the pit and auto reboot nothing else and it passed like normal, then I booted it up, selected debugging, and one click root, now I noticed the once click root took longer than usual this time but It finished and rebooted like normal.
Okay now here's the issue I'm curently running my phone, everything is fine... except for one small thing I can't turn it on! no button combination works when its off the only way I can get it to turn on is by
1st plugging in charger without battery
2nd replacing battery with charger plugged in
3rd waiting until charging screen comes on(and It only comes on with this method)
4th turing it on normally with power button.
and once this is finished it turns on, but I can't get into downlod mode or recovery this way, and what I didn't notice at first boot was that the "samsung" screen at start up didn't show up.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I can't do much right now, and I'm afraid I can't get into download mode.

Sure sounds like a bad flash. Seems like the bootloader is wonky. Since you repartitioned, are you sure you used the right PIT?
For stock EC05 I've always had the best results by using the old official Samsung EB13 installer they had on their website for a while, then letting EC05 download OTA and install itself. Once that is done you can use one click to root.
I know the EB13 tool is around the forum somewhere, just don't know where!
Edit....just realized you said you can't get into download mode. Hmmm...... guess my comments won't help much then. Sorry

Yeah I don't know how I can get into download mode. I was going to try the acs updater t install a recovery and kernel would that work? Or would it still need acess to a recovery to install them? And yeah I used the right pit, if I didn't id be sitting here with a nice permabricked phone, since I hit repartition.

you shouldn't have to worry about the repartition aspect of Odin until a standard flash won't boot.
OP updated issues still persist can i hit update bootloader on odin? whats reqiured?
**Update again.... issues solved it was a faulty odin tar file...I hope
I know I didn't brick my phone because I can still get into bootloader. I've tried to connect to Odin (several times following instructions to remove battery, restart pc, etc) and Odin won't recognize phone in bootloader. I was trying to update to gingerbread 2.3.5 using Odin and it got stuck. it said 'writing, wait 2 minutes' and I waited 8 mins and it never did anything. was I just inpatient? Now when I try to restart my phone it tells me manual files were installed and to hit the OK button. I have no OK button and I've tried all the screen buttons and the 3 hardware buttons to select 'reboot' as instructed per the phone and none work. So I pull the battery and start the vicious cycle all over again. I've been searching and searching (for the past 2hrs) trying to solve this on my own and I'm stuck. I need this phone as it's my work phone and I just got it Friday! (owned by me, not my company thankfully!) please help. thank you.

The only thing I can think of as I have never seen this B4. try holding power down,it takes awhile but it should reboot. I will try to get ahold of more info for you. No promises though. But rule of thumb Be patient.
One last thing where did you get the update from? ie 2.3.5. It helps to know what you were trying to flash.

Of the responses so far, I'd start with a new microUSB cable. Whether the current cable worked 30 seconds ago or not, that could certainly be a potential issue, might as well rule it out.
After that, a few things to consider:
1) Can you get into recovery? [Hold Vol. Up] + [Power] for as long as it takes to get to the recovery screen (anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes of solid holding.) If you can get to recovery, you are going to be in business. If after 120 seconds it hasn't gone into recovery, move on.
2) In your post, you refer to "bootloader", technically correct, but want to make sure you are referring to Odin download mode. The whole "instructions to remove battery, restart pc, etc" throws me off, you shouldn't have to do any of that. Just to make sure, what you want to do is:
Start up Odin 1.85 on your PC
Power down phone
Wait for capacitative button lights to turn off
Simultaneously Press and Hold [Power] + [Vol. Dn] until confirmation screen appears
Press [Vol. Up] to enter Download mode
Connect USB cable to the phone and then to the PC
ODIN should show COM port in first slot
3) If you can successfully get into ODM and the COM port in the first slot lights up, you are golden. Follow the rest of the steps here and you are all set to move forward or hang out from that point.
4) "I was trying to update to gingerbread 2.3.5 using Odin and it got stuck. it said 'writing, wait 2 minutes' and I waited 8 mins" I'm thinking maybe you flashed with Bootloader, Phone or CSC selected rather than PDA in the Odin menu. If that is the case you should still be able to get into ODM as shown above.

1) Can you get into recovery? [Hold Vol. Up] + [Power] for as long as it takes to get to the recovery screen (anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes of solid holding.) If you can get to recovery, you are going to be in business. If after 120 seconds it hasn't gone into recovery, move on.

yes, that is where it tells me media files have been installed and to press OK to reboot the phone (and other options to wipe data, cache, etc). It is not CWM recovery.

Yes, Odin mode by doing what you said. I was referring to what to do if Odin won't connect. Remove battery, restart PC and try to reconnect to Odin

therein lies the problem, I can't get the first slot to show yellow to show it's connected.

yes. I followed these instructions -
Check only Re partition, Auto reboot & F. Reset time in option
Put the files like this in Odin:
PIT = u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit,
PDA = CODE_I9100XXKI3_CL577579_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5,
PHONE= MODEM_I9100XXKI3_REV_02_CL1062028.tar.md5,
CSC = GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKI3.tar.md5
Hit the start button and process will begin
just tried another cable, no joy.

"GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKI3.tar.md5"? Aren't you on the E4GT? So flashing all of these files for an international SGSII would be the first issue. What forum did you get these from?
This might be a big issue afterall. Get back to me on where you got the files and I'll see if I can come up with something in the meantime.
EDIT: One thing that will work for sure, but you'd have to wait for it to come in is a $2 jig. Once you get it, you'll back in business in less than 2 seconds. Mine took 5 days via standard shipping. You could do expedited shipping if you need it faster. In lieu of that, I will keep thinking about what you can do tonight.
EDIT 2: I know you said that you have driver's installed an all, but if you downloaded them where you got those files, they might not be what you need for this phone. You might try going to the E4GT Auto Root thread and get everything you need to start fresh from there.
Then/or try this again:
Disconnect phone, and remove battery (wait 30 -60 seconds or so).
Re-insert the battery and power the phone as I noted before by simultaneously pressing and holding [Power] + [Vol. Dn] until confirmation screen appears
Press [Vol. Up] to enter Download mode
Make sure NPS and KIES are NOT running IMPORTANT
Start up Odin v1.85
Keep trying to connect the phone to get a COM port lit. If it's not working, try changing USB ports. Try every port on your PC.
Keep trying, I've seen odin fail to recognize phones over and over and then
suddenly recognize it out of nowhere.

Yes, the jig should definitely work and it is a good idea to have one around anyway, just in case you ever need to go back to stock to return the phone or something.
But I am certain you can fix it at home in the meantime. I just need to remember or find how.

Yeah, definitely not the right files for our phone, but don't worry, yet, I think you can recover from this. The fear is that the radio is borked as those are GSM phones and we are a CDMA phone. I haven't really read much about this issue, but I know it has happened to others. If you have time, you might search around for something like "oops, flashed SGSII GSM files on my E4GT CDMA phone" or something like that and see if anyone else figured out the fix.
I did not think there was a update to 2.3.5 for the epic 4g touch. I thought only the European versions received that update. The only update I know of for our phones was 2.3.6.
Plz link or direct where you downloaded this update you flashed. If it is the European update you will need to install the drivers for that model for Odin to recognize your phone. Then reflash the proper update.

It should not kill your radio. I fixed a buddys phone that kinda did the same thing. Main thing is get the drivers for the euro sgs 2. Then Odin should see your device. Then use just s's guide from there.
One last thing the jig is not be needed. You can already get into download mode. Your phone is ready for flashing. What you need are drivers for the the computer to recognize your phone.

Yep, this is exactly right.
@nursemm05 you need to find and install the drivers for the phone who's files you flashed. Make sure you know where you save the driver files and where they are installed. In fact, make a backup of your system so that you can restore your PC after you get your ET4G back to good.
Once you can get back into Odin, flash the tar file (singular) that I linked to and you will be back at stock. Then you can hit the other links and you will be very happy with your new setup.
Then do a system restore on your PC to before the i9000 driver's were installed and you should be back to good there as well.
Good luck!
I was on the FK23 rom for a while, and everything was working perfectly. However, last night, I ran a white noise machine app from my phone while it was on the charger all night.
When I went to unlock the phone this morning, it wouldn't unlock, so I pulled the battery, and it started to bootloop. It would do the Galaxy SII screen, then the Sprint bootup, then it would play the Sprint boot down animation. Over and over.
So I tried flashing FL16 with ODIN, and when I do that, it gets stuck on hidden.img and doesn't do anything. Then I tried flashing EL29 with ODIN, and it gets stuck on recovery.bin and doesn't do anything. I have used multiple PCs and multiple cables. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?! I just want my phone to work T_T

Do a factory restore and wipe then odin one click stock EL29 and start from scratch.
I can't do a factory restore. When I hold Vol up + power, it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
:edited: Didn't see your response to graydiggy
Redownload a complete one click, verify md5 and try putting the phone in download mode and attempting again. It's possible that your download was bad.
so is there nothing I can do?
By technicality, that is not a brick. You should be able to flash from that message. That was the case with the Samsung Captivate.
I downloaded EL29 and verified it again. It is doing the same thing. stuck on recovery.bin
I also tried flashing from that message just now. Same thing. ODIN gets stuck on recovery.bin
thanks for the help but I think it's ****ed. something might have messed up in the filesystem and that's why ODIN gets stuck maybe.

Ok, so I found a solution by sfhub that worked for someone from a while ago. Try using pc odin to flash each piece seperately. Modem, kernel, then rom..
Here's my ref:
See post #9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492771
I'll see if this works. Hopefully it does, I'm ready to toss the thing out of a window, haha
edit: noob question, how do I flash the .md5 files? I downloaded odin multi downloader but the phone doesn't show up in it.
edit 2: okay nevermind I figured it out, it seems to be flashing
edit 3: so modem flashed just fine and the phone rebooted but when I try kernel it loads the green bar all the way on odin then it freezes...
edit 4: so I think my phone's flash memory might be screwed somehow. I've been reading other threads and someone had a similar problem as me and couldn't fix it.

Have you flashed all three pieces before trying to let the phone boot completely? Once you flash the first piece and it restarts, Just hold power+vol down and get back into download. Do that until you have all three segments flashed. Then try letting it boot.
I flashed the modem, it worked, then I rebooted back into download. Then I tried flashing kernel and the bar on ODIN filled up but then it froze and did nothing. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and it still did nothing. so I tried skipping that and flashing the rom and the bar on ODIN moved barely then froze. Like I said, I think my phone's flash memory got messed up somehow. :\

Then there may be one more thread that might help if that's the case.
Kernel is only the zimage file. Hang on, let me find it.
:edit: Maybe this will help you. If not, maybe graydiggy or someone else has some ideas.
With this, you'll have to see if you can't flash a custom recovery. From the sound of it, it may not be helpful at all.

I'll try that as a last resort. I'm going to a Sprint store tomorrow and I'll see what they tell me. I just might use all this as an excuse to finally get a Note II.

They will probably know you borked it by trying to flash. If they can get to a recovery to see if you have flashed anything, you are screwed.
Do you by chance have a USB Download Mode JIG?
No, I don't. My download count in download mode is at 1, too.... so they probably won't fix it... but I might get lucky. Who knows.
edit: the messed up thing is I don't really know what messed it up. it worked fine for about a month on FK23, then boom, this morning it won't unlock and bootloops when I pull battery. before I tried flashing it, it wouldn't even go into recovery. when I held vol up + power, it just went to the Samsung screen and rebooted over and over

I have a theory... Give it a couple hours of plug in time without turning it on or trying to flash. Just give it like 3 hours and see if you can flash from there. You may have a battery that is low and it could be resulting in your problem of not being able to flash.
the battery was also on the charger all night... but I'll plug it in. is it charging even though it is on the connect to kies screen?

Just keep it completely powered off and use the normal wall charger.
The last few days i have found my phone to be stuck with screen off, usually pulling the batt and powering it up again. Although throughout the day it would happen every now and then. It seemed all well yesterday but today i found it frozen again pulled the batt and tryed to power it on and it will not come on.
When plugged into the pc it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD
The GS3 is stock and the last update before the knox addition. It has been bugging me to update for some time now.
Any ideas greatly appreciated , Happy New years

Pull the battery, put it back in, hold volume-, home, and power. It should pull up screen that says warning. If it does its not hard bricked. The QHSUSB DLOAD means hard brick though. You can try THIS method.

I used the method posted up in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369125.
Phone enters download mode now but using odin and the odin listed in that thread gives me a fail in odin "no pit" and on the phone i get " flash read failure"
looking around seems to sound as if my phone is toast or am i missing something

Small update
Got heimdall but i dont have any tars that i can use with it ( they are all MD5 and changing the extension doesn't work)
I looked at utitles and made sure the phone was detected and it is but clicking print PIT gives me a error failed to receive pit size and failed to download PIT file
The phone gives me a flash read failure
Would you happen to have a tar that works? it is a 16gb GS3
Any other ideas i should give a shot?
it seems closer and closer that the board itself is fried , should i look for another motherboard to swap in?
