anyone else noticing a challenge with their voice search?
i used to be able to say "Navigate to Los Angeles International Airport" and the phone would put the address into gps navigation... but now i get google searches for los angeles international aiport
"dail 6262164571" gets me a google search for "kbb 2164571"
"call elaine" gets me "did you mean... kbb, qb, etc"
AT LEAST these results are consistent.. but these results are consistently WRONG. anyone with any clues how to remedy?
******* EDIT / UPDATE FIX (6/1/2011) *******
I AM VERY HAPPY TO REPORT THAT I FOUND THE SOLUTION (that's worked for me) ON THE GOOGLE FORUMS!
i hope it works for you guys... see the fix here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/...04a4aa5a04556c
pretty much (for the lazy):
On your phone, Start Google Voice
Click the Menu button and tap Settings.
Turn of "Personalized Recognition"
Tap the "Google Account Dashboard"
Scroll down to the "Speech" section and click the "Anonymize recognition"
Click "Yes..." when it asks if you really want to.
i was losing hope but someone answered my post finally on the google forums =D
er.. anyone with clues at least of what i can look into? or anyone ever experience anything similar?
Nope..I'm not having issues but you can try....
Settings - Voice input - Voice recog settings
Check "personalize recog" if its not checked
OR uncheck it if it is.
Worth a try at least.
thanks dude... i tried that -- no avail.
i think my voice search chops off like the first bit of what i'm saying... it's kind of funny. if i say "navigate navigate to los angeles international airport" it'll process fine, but if i say "navigate to los angeles international airport" it'll google search the "lose angeles international airport" LOL
maybe i'll need to do some stuff through the terminal ?? have no freakin' clue... this is weird tho
Don't know if this will have an effect but it fixes a lot of other apps when they act weird. Try clearing the data for Voice search.
Settings - manage apps - Voice search
Clear data and/or uninstall updates.
dkechitkid thanks for taking the time to help me out -- i'm very grateful!
i looked in the market for voice search and it looks like some other users might be experiencing something similar
not sure how to contact the "devs" of the app tho b/c it's google inc.. i'll figure it out.
Not a problem. Good luck and if you find a solution..report back to this post. You never know, I might run in to this one someday and need the fix.

Although I have an HTC Incredible, I am having the exact same problem; the kbb business and everything. This problem only started happening recently for me (last several weeks).
I just discovered (tonight) that if I say:
Test Navigate to Burger King
It drops "Test" and I end up with "Navigate to Burger King". The first word doesn't have to be "test", any word seems to do. Not perfect, but now I can at least get directions. This has been driving me crazy and I've tried everything to resolve it (flashing different ROMs, deleting everything on my sdcard, etc).
Update:
These people seem to be having the same problem:

a lot of people have this problem, its an issue with the microphone in our phone being the only thing that is crappy, the voice quality that thing hears is horrible, try a bluetooth device and youll see it can hear you now

The app does NOT have BT audio enabled. (A very bad lack of a feature.) It hasn't been updated recently either. And the phone mic works fine most of the time in my experience.

I never had this problem until recently and I have a different phone than the OP has (I have an HTC Incredible). I believe this is a problem with the most recent version of the voice search application (users posting to the discussions I linked to believe this as well).
Maybe I'll back up my current ROM and revert to an older version of MIUI to verify.
Edit: I didn't see Cache83's post before I wrote my post. I tried Cache83's solution and it fixed my problem. Thanks for chasing this one down Cache83!

Hay guys I'm new here so please forgive me if this has already been addressed but I could not find anything on this matter . I'm trying to get full web access with t-zones using the settings on the Dash Wiki and can't seem to get it to work . Does this work around still work ? Or am I just doing something wrong ? Thanks in advance for you help .
Use the search feature at the top right of the forum. It will help you find what you are looking for.....
Too many of these threads already floating around, searchig would be more proper.
Still workin just fine for me, as stated above hit search for some step by steps...That question has prolly been asked as much as God is asked "why...?".

is t-zones not available anymore? every time i go into my t-mobile to make changes, i can't even see that option. very annoying. what's more annoying, the total internet is not even listed as a service i have!

I wonder if T-Mobile has started to turn it off...?
I know that T-Zones works for me here in Boulder, CO. If I drive down to Denver, though, it doesn't work anymore. I haven't tested any place else yet (since I haven't been anywhere else lately, lol), but I'm already starting to wonder if it's going away...

it sometimes taks 24-48 hours for the provisioning of those services to take effect
i made the changes on thursday i think! very odd.
Bluetooth Voice Dialing is in the Froyo feature set.
I can't see this feature anywhere on the Desire after the 2.2 update. Anyone else?
I can't find it either...
really really annoyed about this!! when i bought the phone it was something I really needed! Was told it would be on the phone with 2.2 in a couple of months but now nothing!!! Grrrr!!!
I read somewhere that you can use the voice search do dial someone, and it actually works, but there are two problems:
1) Since the main objective of voice search is to search using google, you need to be on wireless or 3G to start using voice search, even if you don't want to use google at all. So if you don't leave your 3G active all the time, you'll have to activate it before launching voice search.
2) You can't launch voice search by pressing the action button on the bluetooth headset, so you still have to pull the phone out of the pocket to activate it and then give the command.
Those two problems pretty much makes voice search unusable as a replacement to a dedicated voice dialing dialog, because you always have to take the phone out of pocket and interact a lot with it to finally call someone. It's easier to just tap your contact's shortcut to call it.
It was in the leaked ROM that was floating around a couple of weeks ago too! My guess this will be coming in another update around the time that HTC release their car dock. Bloody gits.
in the prerelease 2.2 (LeeDroid) I am using if I press the talk button on the steering wheel it requests a voice command and then searches for whoever you said "call". But it its true that 3G MUST be activated.
Can anyone recommend a 2.2 ROM with HTC sense that has this feature? Is it a good idea for me to reflash do you think?
This was the one thing i was waiting for with the froyo release and it appears to be missing.
Im not seriously considering rooting my phone just to get this feature.
Can anybody recommend me a rom with this feature enabled?
I'm in the same boat, wasn't really bothered about rooting but now it looks like I'm going to have to!
I've emailed HTC on their support page, does anyone think I'm going to get a response?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
HTC replied to me saying "we can decide what parts of the system are used and which are not".
Removing this from the release is ridiculous. It's so common now for use of hands-free kits to be compulsory, if not the only legal option.
It was my main reason to debrand and upgrade, only to find that it's been omitted.
Maybe some kind soul can manage to knock up an APK from a release where it was included (fingers crossed)
Well here's the response from HTC!
Not good really!
Hi Dave, Voice to text is only available in North America due to the limitations of the voice recognition software database that our phone uses. We are researching the possibility of expanding the coverage of the Voice-To-Text feature but we are still analyzing
the feasibility and currently have no schedule to relay this to you now. We have your contact information on our system and will contact you when we have a solution. Kind regards, Tom HTC

Don't tell me that HTC is not going to include this feature in Froyo! I bought my desire AFTER the announcement of Bluetooth voice dialing, and I thought I could wait for this to come in 2.2 update, and now they say they won't include it???? Are they crazy enough to omit one of the main features in Froyo??? What on earth are they thinking?!?!
Correct - they are NOT going to include it in Froyo 2.2
I have the official HTC version of Froyo that doesn't have it, and am rather upset as i would have rooted my phone to get this feature, but I was under the impression I didn't have to.
Now that I've updated to HTC's version not only do I still not have Bluetooth voice dialing, but I also don't have the option to root my phone anymore to get it.
Nice to see that they spent time on real things like a new android graphic, the way the lock displays and other useless but blingy stuff instead of items that were lacking that almost every other phone on the market has for granted.

This is complete arse.

I tried it a few days ago and thought it was terrible.
I've tried it and seems to work well, I've emailed the dev as well about the last comment but he said it uses the in built speech to text library so it will be as good / bad as any other android dialer
Hope that helps!

well you have to give a little more information then that for a definite answer. But the answer is yes AND no right now
If you are running the latest build of android for our phone with the sound working searching via speaking WILL work if you activate the mic first. This is done by making a phone call and then immediately after using the search feature and speaking. Once you do this once the mic shuts off again though. I have no doubt that till will be working in the next little while fully though now that we have sound finally.
See here --------> [Bug] Voice Search Fails Unless Mic is Already Active
yes i have latest build thanks
i have one more question i have advance task killer and when i close all apps and go again look at if all apps are closed some of them still there...
Has anyone noticed that in the new OTA 4.24 that the speech-to-text function has become worthless/unusable? Worked fine in Froyo, but now speech-to-text is borked in GB????!!?!?! Has anyone found a fix?
Let me clarify. I'm using essentially the stock OTA rooted and deodexed. Perhaps the trouble came with the deodexing, I am unsure. Anyone running a 4.24 based deodexed ROM having trouble? You hit the mic icon, speak, and it basically acts like it didn't pick up any sound.
Ive been on the OTA since it came out and I have had no problems with this function. I use it frequently to send text messages should I happen to be driving. With the exception of the occasional misunderstood word, i never have problems. I use it to search the web, to navigate, all without consequence.
Perhaps rather than bashing the entirety of this function and assuming there is a fix for something that may only be your problem or your configuration, you could provide us with some examples of what youre trying to accomplish/say and what the end result is?

I have also not had any speech to text issues and I am completely unrooted s on and all. No wayback home yet...
does it always not work or only in some applications.

It doesn't work for **** in any application. You hit the microphone and the pop-up windows comes up as normal and says speak now, but unless you literally yell at the phone it doesn't pick up anything.
I had an issue with no speech to text on the previous version of Fresh, finally updated to the 4.2 today and the problem went away.
Dunno.
the 14 post guy does have a valid point. The amount of posts you have on this forum mean NOTHING on how smart you are. lol. sorry guys. but it is true. for example, just because someone has worked for IBM for 20 years doesn't make him knowledgeable on any part of IBM. Just means someone was stupid enough to pay him for 20 years. lol
But need exact examples of exactly what's going on. Maybe when you trained your phone, it lost those settings after the update? retrain it.
REMEMBER EVERYONE, if you're saying "offensive" words on it, by default it blocks it.
If the personalized recognition is unchecked, then the settings didn't carry over from one to another. WHICH GUESS WHAT! THEY DIDN'T! HAHAHA. checking mine now, and all the settings didn't stick. also, the training for the skype didn't make it over too which has been messing up my writing on this phone.

Thanks, but I'm not a dumbass. Perhaps you should look at the threads I've created before providing any further commentary.
I don't see anywhere in this thread where I had a problem with 'training' 'offensive words' or any other 'settings' as you have mentioned. Please read more carefully in the future and refrain from posting unless you have an answer to the question posed.
Mine works if there is no back ground noise but if there is the slightest noise forget it it just says no voice heard my wife also has the same problem. But with here Russian accent it never gets the words right anyway. At least I know I'm not the only one.

Hi guys
Please help! I am a few days into my OnePlus 3 ownership and for most part I'm loving it! I have been a Nexus owner since the 4, with my last device being the 6P (unfortunately just a little too big to keep) and wanted a near vanilla OS device with great hardware in the form factor.
Besides the known bugs with Oxygen OS and the outdated phone apk which I wish had call blocking and local search/caller ID - any suggestions for a solution? The real issue for me is I get no voice responses to any of my OK Google voice commands. I am running the oxygen OS 3.2.1 update.
I only get responses in the browser / on screen. This is regardless of the command, what's the weather , what's the time in Tokyo etc or set a reminder, send a text to ... etc
Now I have done the following to troubleshoot:
1) Checked all related settings (speech output on etc)
2) Tried both uk and us English and ensured languages had been downloaded
3) Factory reset and tried again from restoring Google account
4) Factory reset and tried as a new phone with no Google account
Whatever I do there is no voice response. I will note during Google maps use if I ask a question I get a response.
OnePlus support offer nothing but an RMA which of course is probably no the solution it must be a setting or a software bug.
Can fellow owners check if they have the same issue and if they have a solution, kindly share it?
Many thanks

My first op3 was defective. Same issues with the mic. (besides phone calling)
Don't waste your time guys., you have to return device.
Sorry.
I think it only works on Google launcher home screen and any screen while phone is on (if activated under settings). It will not work while screen is off. Correct? Or are you referring to something different?

Thanks for your response, I am referring to the fact the phone doesn't talk back. No voice response when asked a question. 'OK Google' works from any screen when the phone is on (and you choose the setting) but whatever you do the answer or response is on screen only, no answers are spoken back.
I have the exact same issue, it was working when I received the phone. But since 4-5 days it has stopped responding back, it just shows the answers on screen.
Good to know that I am not the only one facing this problem. I hope it is just a software bug and will be fixed soon.
i am saddened because of this as well! I used to ask Google Now about the weather, time, to set the alarm and the talk-back is a great feature to
me, just that now my OP3 has lost this capability !!! I've already googled for a while, a few are questioning same problem but no resolution!
Wow, it got fixed automatically after so many days. I was just setting a reminder and it replied with voice, so I tested other commands too, like weather, time and other stuff. It is working properly for me now, please check if it's fixed for you too. (I didn't update to 3.2.2 yet)
I've had this phone for almost a week and have had the same issues. Tried clearing cache, reinstalling Google, changing settings and nothing worked. All of sudden it started talking back to me yesterday. So there is hope.
