[Q] hey guys i need a little help

i can't load the amon_ra recovery, doesn't actually work when i do it through rom manager, and i used unrevoked to root. just got my evo back from a 3 month long period of not having it (it broke and i was to lazy to take it in) i had RA before and was running cynogen 6, just rooted last night, and looked in the thread for RA Recovery and none of it is working.
all the directions didn't work for me, or i forgot how to adb and therefore can't do that. i tried terminal on the phone and everything, i really don't want to flash a rom until i do a nandroid with ra.
anyone care to help.

If you rooted your phone you should have a custom recovery,which do you have ?

clockwork, and as i have 4g now i wanna make sure i don't screw it up.
edit: hold up i may have just done it by doing an pc36img_recovery flash from a how to root, this file was provided to flash amon_ra, just don't know which version......

It's gonna be 1.7 just update it via Rom manager. It's possible you were not fully rooted yet.. does it say s-off?

sweet it's amon ra 1.8, awesome. thanks for the offer to help. any suggestions on rom and what not. i used to run CM6 with the kernel to get rid of 30fps cap. though that kernel for the (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876590) awesome battery life in this thread, does that also get rid of the cap? any help or suggestions would be welcome, i've been out of the scene for a while.

yes, i ran unrevoked forever so it says s-off. btw whats the best gingerbread rom out there? sorry for all the noob questions btw.

None are complete all still in beta mode (imo) would be best to just get a good aosp Rom and add theme gingerbread. Also cm6.1.1 is the best I have used but that's all opinion. Heard cm7 will be gingerbread and should be out soon!

All kernels have the mod to get rid of the cap since HTC released the source for it...

ah i see, well maybe you can still help me. i got an error doing a nandroid through ra, it says error : run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!
btw it's been along time since i did adb.......so lost. lol

Is it plugged in to the computer at the moment? It sounds like you are not fully mounted to your SD card

If you have clock work 3.x check if the zips you are flashing are converted to edify scripts. Or since I think truly epic is edify anyways, you're probably not on clockwork 3.x. look for dameons posts on installing the clockwork mod 3

Yes it is the orange one. In that case Im not to sure. Did you try re downloading the zip? If nothing else works I'd say unroot you're phone and start over from scratch

I don't believe syndicate even has a EXT4 (Clockworkmod3 compatible) ROM, so you must be trying to flash RFS only ROM's from the sound of it.
Make sure the ROM you flash says EXT4, not RFS.
EDIT: Checked Truly Epic ROM out and it looks like it should work fine with Clockwork 3.0.0.5.

Gotta give us some more info than that? What method did you root with? Do you have cwm? We can't help you cause we have no idea what you have.

[Q] I want to sell my phone

hey guys quick question. I have my Evo with a rooted ROM on there right now. I believe its Kingdom 3D or something along those lines. I just purchased an Evo 3D and want to sell this Evo as is rooted and all. I tried punching in the ##2382# or whatever the code is to get into the settings to see if it would work so when the person that buys it wont have problems with sprint on the phone and it didnt work. Is there anyway to activate a rooted phone if the ## doesnt work over the phone? I'd hate to go back to stock.

They would have to flash another ROM if ##3282# didn't work.
Leave the thing S-Off and flash a custom 2.2/3 ROM, something not based on the Shift. For example, Sprint Lovers or Azrael or SNS or Warm 2.2.
Oh, and flash AmonRa please. Don't let the person start out with ROM Manager / ClockworkMod

Why? You are selling the phone. The easiest way to do this is to just unroot and return to stock. Its way easier than trying to explain what a rooted phone is to the buyer, and explaining all the problems and bugs that come along with rooting. Plus, if that person would take the phone into sprint to activate it, THEY would get in trouble for bringing in a rooted phone.

How much are you asking for your phone?

I'm gonna sell it for $100. Front camera for some reason just stopped working. I have also an extended battery on it (Not Seido).

So what's the big difference between the two, Rom manager and amonra? Just curious, Noob and using Rom manager.

Rom Manager is an app. Clockwork Mod and AmonRa are both recoveries. People are pretty much split 50/50 on which is the best, I personally only use clockwork, I have never had a problem with it.

But clockwork is part of ROM man, correct? So what is the advantage of amonra over clockwork.....

No, clockwork and Amonra are both recoveries. Completely separate from a rom and apps. Recoveries are used to flash roms, but they are not part of roms.
Rom Manager is an app that lets you USE the recovery, without actually booting into the recovery yourself. So Rom Manager uses recoveries, but it's not part of the recovery.

Did the camera stop working after you rooted/flashed? Or is this a hardware issue?
I would think it would be best to flash back to stock on this phone, and sell it that way. Let the user root/flash after they activate it.
IM me if you haven't sold this yet.

Need Some Help Here...

ok so i have no idea what ive done..but every time i flash a ROM it boots then goes to a black screen.
never had this problem before but i went ahead and updated my MIUI to 1.9.9 and **** just went nuts!!!
soft keys light up but the screen wont come back on.
any ideas? any suggestions at this point im certainly open to anything..

yea i tried TSM's PoolParty since i had a backup of it on my sd card and still nothing.
even trying to install from fresh..

hmmmm so u did a complete wipe? go to recovery and wipe everything the also go format system, data, and cache and then install a ROM. if that don't work you may have to ruu to stock and start fresh. very odd

its meant for situations like this anyways.

yessir ruu's bailed me out a few times already. and god bless adb too its nice to wipe everything and get a fresh start once in awhile anyway. let us know if the ruu works. if not warranty that sucker cuz its probably hardware related. good luck

Nah I think the recovery idea might be the easiest but I've never seen this happen. And I'm out if the loop now that work has picked up. Good luck ill keep thinking though.

The screen works fine in recovery right? Odd some guy said his screen was flickering (going out) in a thread I read but never said more about it.

ok so i was able to flash back to stock..
installed the revo recovery / obtainted root as well.
BUT when i tried to flash a custom ROM the whole black screen thing happened again.
f'n strange man.
wheres the easy as pie root tool? anyone know?
i need to get this figured out.

and yea..recovery works good, but i did realize i cant do the vol dwn+power to get to hboot

Download Rom manager and let it flash its recovery. If that won't work try the aman ra one

man this is a very strange situation. definitely flash a new recovery. I think your recovery is not flashing things right. maybe putting things in the wrong place. put you backups on your CPU and completely delete your clockwork folder and flash new recovery. cuz if things work stock there is just something strange we are over looking

CWM recovery

I have heard that there is a new CWM recovery fr the Samsung Epic, is this true? could it be?
Right now I'm on 5.0.0.7 and as far as I know its the latest and greatest. Am I right or am I a total dummy?

The greatest CWM is CWM 5
but the newest CWM is CWM 6
CWM 6 can't make a nandroid backup

CWM 6 allows Nandroid on mine so not sure why your having problems.
But TWRP 2.2 Is better IMO not sure if its available for the Epic but on the NS4G its really good has on board keyboard control while in TWRP.

when i want to back up my phone with CWM 6, it stuck on "backing up system"
i must pull the battery to quit from recovery mode
yes TWRP 2.2.1 is better than CWM 5 and 6 for me

Lots of people are having problems with cwm6 making backups... don't mind lostsoul.... he posts before checking his facts... I have the same problem with cwm6.....

heres mine working does a full complete backup i do now what i'm talking about, just because you, and others may have the issue doesn't meen some dont I.E like me.

Yes but of course you made it sound like because yours is working. Ever thought of possibly reinstall start from fresh. I said it to you because you made it seem like I don't know what I'm talking about. There are somethings yes. But don't doubt me just because I have a working version. I never dirty flash not since ICS.
Sorry that I was just showing how mine was working when most aren't.

I have never dirty flashed... that's a bad habit to have... and I've redownloaded and reflashed many times.... I just flash marcusants cwm restore zip and work with 5.x.x.x. whatever the version number is.... don't be sorry... just don't say you don't see how others aren't working when yours is... (which you did, read back, you'll find it.....)

Sorry i guess I worded it wrong my bad but I understand your point are you completely stock because I didn't use his return CWM. I just wiped and installed CM9. So it uses the baked in version of CWM recovery.
I don't use custom kernels anymore on my Epic coming from a Voodoo Color Lover lol.

CWM6? Yes, i've used that as well on CM9 & 10. As for the Epic(my daily), i'd like to know if anyone knows where I can find a later version than v5.0.2.7 ?
I've seen v5.5.0.4, but I believe that isn't for the Epic.
What I like about the newer versions of CWM is auto-scroll. (when you just hold down/up on the volume button and away you go, VS "click-click-click-click. UGH" )
Also, Im currently on (my fav) The People's Rom (TPR). I am hoping any newer version of CWM will work with the Epic and the rom.

Isn't CWM 6 exclusive to AOSP based roms, like CM or MIUI?

Heck yeah 5.0.2.7 is the latest and greatest. TWRP recovery is pretty good too, but I think that is only exclusive to some newer Roms. CWM 5.0.2.7 is about your best bet, unless you like CWM's older recovery versions but I would not recommend that.
And just another Thank you to DRockstar, awesome job! I've been using it for all different kinds of things and I haven't had one problem.
