I have a HTC Desire CDMA and I'm trying to root but I'm having issues. I've tried using unrevoked but I keep getting error messages for failed to unlock nand or software to new. I installed all the drivers I need properly and uninstalled HTC sync and left the drivers. I just can't see what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Android 2.2

Not 100% sure but I think the latest cdma hboot can't be rooted yet. What is your hboot version?

1.06 still can't be rooted. Does sound like theyve got that hboot.

How do you check your hboot version?
HTC Desire
hroot
boot via recovery:
turn off, hold vol down and power.
not sure but there may be a beta unrevoked 3.2 maybe. if it works, post!
I searched for a beta for unrevoked but didn't find one. Where would I have to look?
HTC Desire
perhaps was meant 3.32 link
and check your hboot version
we are working on getting the new HBOOT rooted. its not easy unfortunately and all of the easier methods have been ehausted and not alot of people want to risk their shiny new desires in an effort to get root.
I have hboot 1.06. Is it able to be rooted?
HTC Desire
hboot 1.06, No.
Not at this time. It is being worked on and I'm sure a lot of people are interested so keep posted.
Apparently it can't be rooted full stop, going by a post I saw on Android Forums (Phandroid)
I guess I will just wait for unrevoked 3.33 to be released.
HTC Desire
Or maybe Alpha Rev?

Do any of the pre-rooted Froyo+Sense ROMs work with SLCD screens? Preferably as close as possible to HTC's ROM.
(Feel free to move to Q&A if it's more appropriate there).
I don't own a Desire but this'd be interesting to know now that Telus has released the NAM 3G Desire.
Well the official one should work 99% (cause it's official) and there's a rooted version floating around here.

There is no official Froyo update for the Telus Desire yet. Which is one reason I was asking.
And also - I thought that unrevoked3 fails to root a Desire that has received the stock Froyo OTA due to upgrading HBOOT to a more secure version?
Thus it would seem to me the best way for a Telus Desire user to get rooted Froyo is to find a pre-rooted ROM and avoid loading any OTA in order to remain on the lower HBOOT version.
im thinking of getting the HTC Desire with SLED.
Is there is a difference in the system that I will not be able to use the custom roms (including those labed official roms)?
Well you can root +reflash Eclair with unrevoked and then download the prerooted OTA FroYo here. Then you'll be able to install it through clockwork recovery

Are you saying that I'd have to flash a version of Eclair other than the one that comes with the Telus Desire, in order for the pre-rooted OTA FroYo to work?
Anyway my main question was - does this release of FroYo already work on SLCD phones? If yes, then it's all good.

This worked for me on a brand new Telus Desire.
I'm now using a rooted official 2.2 ROM.
Good to know, thanks!
Yep I followed link uptop. I'm with Telus and have a slcd,I'm rooted,a2sd, and running leedroid. All is wonderful.

Do any of the popular ROMs still fail on SLCD or has this been mainly fixed now?
I used neo and leedroid no problem with those two.

When the SLCD Desires first launched there were reports of people trying to flash certain ROMs and getting a dark screen. There is even a tutorial on here for people who tried to downgrade HBOOT and now need to navigate a dark screen in order to restore functionality.
My understanding is that OpenDesire only added SLCD compatibility recently, so anyone who tried to flash that ROM before it was upgraded would have also had a dark screen.
Thus I ask... do any of the popular ROMs still fail on SLCD?

The clockworkmod only affects the recovery. In the rom's kernel there must be also support for the slcd. For example CM nighlies got the support on 08072010 version and on RC2.

Telus Desire Unlocked running on Rogers network - How can I install Android 2.2 Froyo
Hello,
I have an unlocked Telus Desire and I want to install Android 2.2 Froyo on it. I've tried downloading the various versions around the internet but I keep getting the following error:
E:Error in sdcard/update.zip (status 7) Installation Aborted
I'm not sure if this has to do with the fact the Telus Desire is version 8182 and the other ROMS are for the 8181 / 8183 version?
I would like to keep HTC sense if possible and not have to go through the whole process of rooting the phone (creating gold card, running revoke etc etc).
Can anyone point me in the right direction or let me know what I am doing wrong?
Much appreciated!
Any progress rooting or making my CDMA Desire USSC S-Off?

Have you tried to downgrade it to any older versions? Than root after downgrading?
Clue:
Find and use older official updates from HTC-sync.
CDMA phones are different from GSM ones so not sure they downgrade the same way (assuming you can downgrade a CDMA phone)

Alpharev has a public beta now open to gain s-off on hboot 1.06 for the CDMA desire. I am hoping to see a bit more feedback about how it works before I try it.
It appears that you can get s-off and then run unrevoked3. Although it doesn't seem to be necessary to run unrevoked, it may be a simpler way to get cwm recovery. Any feedback about this would be appreciated!
Link for alpharevx here on xda:

According to twitter it supports hboot 1.06:

Hi all,
I did the update to the new 2.3 gingerbread version today but how to root this version?
Unrevoked doesn't work for me and downgrading to 2.2 rom doesn't work too.
Any ideas?
Why downgrading to 2.2 ROM doesnt work?
Tried to flash RUU? You have gold card? (if branded)

Also in the comments on that page it says it does not require a goldcard, is that true?

My hboot is 6.93.100 and other ppl on the forum says that alpha rev protects the hboot from being overridden by the ruus hboot

That's for Desire HD and Inspire 4G, i dont think it will work on Desire Gsm.
Hi, i've been looking around to help my friend with his new desire,
I would like to see if this works, according to my research...
If I ran the phone through unrevoked, would this root the phone?
And in turn, let us install rom manager + clockwork mod?
I don't have much experience around here as I am still looking about rooting my nexus
Hope you can help

I'm gonna have to ask about the bootloader info, but it is currently running stock (latest) which I think is 2.2?
EDIT: How do you get into the bootloader? Is it power+ volume down?
Yes.

If its running 2.2, chances are very high that you can root it with unrevoked. Make sure the hBOOT version is 0.93.xxxx

It will work. As long as the drivers required are properly installed. And you don't need s-off unless you are planning to change the boot partitions (eg. Change from Stock hBOOT to CM7r2 hBOOT to get more space for apps)
Sent from my HTC Original Desire using Tapatalk
If your still not 100% sure I don't think you should even try rooting your friends phone. You'll need the htc usb drivers installed on pc, make sure the htc sync apps is not installed.
Use unrevoked to root and install cwm recovery, from there you can install any of the great roms.

Please read the rooting faq in my signature. There's also a guide there which incorporates pre requisite information which (for some unknown reason) is missing from most other guides.
But read the faq too. It's not about blindly following steps. It's about understanding the process and what you are doing.

Hi all, so I've been trying to update my hboot from 0.75.0000 to .93 but have been FAILING miserably. I'm currently on ICS, and have tried alpharev which didn't work. Trying to flash rom to RUU has also failed but I don't know why. Flashed my radio to match the one with the RUU and that didn't work, which i'm guessing is due to the inability to simply flash from ICS to 2.2 or 2.3?
So my question is, any other tips?
Try to flash the hboot downgrade from alpharev then the right RUU. If that works you can root and s-off your phone with unrevoked/revolutionary. If you want to change hboot to cmr7 or data ++ (example) you MUST be s-off......

Thanks for tip, I've actually done alpharev and it also failed. Reason being it needs a rom that doesn't already have a2sd, any suggestion as to which rom is suitable?
Thanks
Edit: I've actually online done the hboot reflash, and not the downgrade. Will give that a go first and see what happens.
I think that all the rooted roms have some sort of a2sd, that's why I think you have to start from the beginning. Start with an original ruu.bring it back to its original state wich came out of the box...my knowledge doesn't reach that far ;-) its the easyest way I think.

Can you post your complete bootloader. Turn of phone, hold down volume and press power. What info does the left upper corner give you ?

MICROP-031D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
MAR 5 2010,21:12:15
Still I think what's best is to go back all the way and install a ruu. Then go directly to revolutionary. It will root and s-off your phone and installs the custom hboot.
Maybe I have more time to help tonight, I am at work now :-(

Hey there, firstly I would like to thank you for ALL your help and of course the effort you've put in it.
I've actually fixed it by firstly going to page ~16 of the android development forum for the desire, get an old rom, flash it in and then performed the alpharev. Lo and behold it worked because the rom is reasonably old and a2sd was "new" then. Flashed it back to ICS now and I am proud to announced that I S-OFF'ED!!! Partition done and OFF I GO.
That's great !!!! Have fun with your fixed desire )))
