Any progress rooting or making my CDMA Desire USSC S-Off?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Have you tried to downgrade it to any older versions? Than root after downgrading?
Clue:
Find and use older official updates from HTC-sync.
CDMA phones are different from GSM ones so not sure they downgrade the same way (assuming you can downgrade a CDMA phone)

Alpharev has a public beta now open to gain s-off on hboot 1.06 for the CDMA desire. I am hoping to see a bit more feedback about how it works before I try it.
It appears that you can get s-off and then run unrevoked3. Although it doesn't seem to be necessary to run unrevoked, it may be a simpler way to get cwm recovery. Any feedback about this would be appreciated!
Link for alpharevx here on xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130346
According to twitter it supports hboot 1.06:

What hboot version did the evo have? Did u check it before you rooted? If I were you, I would download a ruu and return the evo to stock and then try to reroot ....the hboot version you have will determine the root method you use..it is quite possible the hboot you have is not compliant with unrevoked ...there fore causing the issue you currently have...

yeha I think your best bet is to run the RUU ( which is a program to run on your PC to reflash your Evo back to factory specs ) and then read and read and read the rooting guides before you do it. You have to check hardware versions, make RSA back ups, hboot versions etc.
I have a HTC Desire CDMA and I'm trying to root but I'm having issues. I've tried using unrevoked but I keep getting error messages for failed to unlock nand or software to new. I installed all the drivers I need properly and uninstalled HTC sync and left the drivers. I just can't see what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Android 2.2

Not 100% sure but I think the latest cdma hboot can't be rooted yet. What is your hboot version?

How do you check your hboot version?
HTC Desire
hroot
boot via recovery:
turn off, hold vol down and power.
not sure but there may be a beta unrevoked 3.2 maybe. if it works, post!
I searched for a beta for unrevoked but didn't find one. Where would I have to look?
HTC Desire
perhaps was meant 3.32 link
and check your hboot version
we are working on getting the new HBOOT rooted. its not easy unfortunately and all of the easier methods have been ehausted and not alot of people want to risk their shiny new desires in an effort to get root.
I have hboot 1.06. Is it able to be rooted?
HTC Desire
hboot 1.06, No.
Not at this time. It is being worked on and I'm sure a lot of people are interested so keep posted.
Apparently it can't be rooted full stop, going by a post I saw on Android Forums (Phandroid)
I guess I will just wait for unrevoked 3.33 to be released.
HTC Desire
Or maybe Alpha Rev?
Seen this link?

Very interesting.
Can someone please tell me how to turn S ON on my HTC Desire? I ran the RUU for my phone (US Cellular desire) and it put me back to stock, I just still have S OFF Alpharev. I've searched for a while and can't find anything. Any help will be appreciated.
What is your current HBOOT version?
I think you need to flash the hboot downgraded from the alpharev site. I would search first as I've seen this question asked before buy I'm not 100% on the outcome

Not sure on that as this is the CDMA desire. unrevoked S-offs this on the older Hboots. Not sure how it works on 1.02 with Alpharevx but the standard hboots dont work I believe

Flash Downgrader first to unlock the hboot protection, then use corresponding RUU.

Yes, but you need a Rooted ROM with no a2sd/d2ext scripts.

i agree, we need to know how u root/s-offed ur cdma desire (bravoc), as the apharev hboots are only for desire gsm (bravo)..so u can't use the alpharev downgrader i think
post here ur bootloader hboot infos
Yeah exactly.
The S-on security flag is in Radio's NVRAM. Obviously the radio is different between GSM and CDMA devices.
Historically on GSM, Alpharev S-off (1.8 and lower) flashed a special hboot which ignored this flag.
On CDMA Unrevoked forever did something different and didnt change the hboot
Thanks for the replies everyone. My HBOOT version is 6.06.1002 ... hope this helps...

It is a start, so looks like you definitely used revolutionary to s-off your desire. Is it CDMA?

unfortunally, i think there is no way to go back to s-on with that hboot 6.x on the desire cdma
that hboot have a downgrade protection, so the ruu can't overwrite it
maybe you can try to change it manually, doing a "fastboot flash hboot hboot.img" using the hboot img file that you can extract from your ruu exe on your pc
Doesn't work needless to say. With unrevoked we could flash the h-boot and stay s-off with alpha-rev you can't. I was just trying this as I was bored using the uscc eclair ruu.
Fastboot doesn't work either gives error can not flash h-boot on the phone. Hopefully that helps you out.
Edit: By the way qb what you doing with a uscc desire anyway? You venturing away from the photon or something I seen you over there but at this time there is no way to flash it I have found. Making img files does nothing and neither does fastboot. I am tempted to try the downgrader for the bravo for the heck of it as I don't care to brick it. Cept the woman would shoot me.
Hi, i've been looking around to help my friend with his new desire,
I would like to see if this works, according to my research...
If I ran the phone through unrevoked, would this root the phone?
And in turn, let us install rom manager + clockwork mod?
I don't have much experience around here as I am still looking about rooting my nexus
Hope you can help
Details needed.
Bootloader info, phone info...

I'm gonna have to ask about the bootloader info, but it is currently running stock (latest) which I think is 2.2?
EDIT: How do you get into the bootloader? Is it power+ volume down?
Yes.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
If its running 2.2, chances are very high that you can root it with unrevoked. Make sure the hBOOT version is 0.93.xxxx

If its the same as mine, yes unrevoked will do. However, i was having issues with CwM before so now im using amon ra recovery.just a heads up

Ye, thats right, I just found out that it is 0.93
So my plan on my original post will work?

It will work. As long as the drivers required are properly installed. And you don't need s-off unless you are planning to change the boot partitions (eg. Change from Stock hBOOT to CM7r2 hBOOT to get more space for apps)

If your still not 100% sure I don't think you should even try rooting your friends phone. You'll need the htc usb drivers installed on pc, make sure the htc sync apps is not installed.
Use unrevoked to root and install cwm recovery, from there you can install any of the great roms.

Please read the rooting faq in my signature. There's also a guide there which incorporates pre requisite information which (for some unknown reason) is missing from most other guides.
But read the faq too. It's not about blindly following steps. It's about understanding the process and what you are doing.

quick ? will revolutionary still work to root the evo. Ive been using a diffrent phone but going back to the evo. Im buying it today from a sprint store. Not sure what software etc its using so before buying it will it still work. Can i update it when i get it. thank you in advance lol
Only 2.3.3 works.with revolutionary and hboot 2.15 and 2.16. If you.update to the latest OTA which is 2.3.5 there are ways to downgrade. If you don't want to go through the hassle you can use htcdev.com and get s-on unlocked instead of s-off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
does the evo come with 2.3.3 stock or is it 2.3.5 now. and if it is 2.3.5 and if i use the htcdev thing to get a unlocked bootloader can i still use roms, unlock mobile hotspot. also how would i get root if i used the htcdev method or does it root it like rev does
