Hit a snag and need some guidance I feel dumb - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im trying to use CDMA workshop on my EVO and I cant seem to get HW Virtual Serial Port version 2.5 to create a com port. I keep getting ping reply failed port not created. I never had a problem with my rhodium but this EVO is being a pain.
Can anyone walk me through opening a Com port for the EVO? im running windows 7 home 32bit if it matters...
thanks

so no one knows how to open a com port for the evo?

If you put the phone in diagnostics mode the computer will ask you for a driver for the serial port (COM) which later you can use for CDMA
WS. So you might be misding one of the two: diag mode or port driver.

I have the Diagnostic drivers, which one is diagnostic mode? is that volume down and power? or ##3424#?
I know I have all my drivers. but what is the port driver?

Serial Port Emulation (usb driver) ?

Hi,
I am trying to develop two applications. One on the Blue Angel and one on PC. I need to send information from the Blue Angel app to the PC app.
I though I could use serial port communication when the Blue Angle is connected to the PC by USB.
In order to do it, I would need to install some kind of "serial port emulation" driver. Do you have any idea if this is available/possible for the BlueAngel and where I could download these drivers?
Your help will be greatly appreciated, thanks
Lionel

Indeed, I'd like such a feature...
if im correct its possible on windows mobile with even more options.

I have found this link http://www.tombom.co.uk/blog/?p=124 too which has a modified cable for the DROID to be used as usb host. but i have read that drivers for G1 are online for this task. Is there any driver or mode we can do to have our HTC Desire act as usb reader...it would be awsome if i can read my flash drives or friend's on my phone without pc

[q] usb evo 2.3.3 problems!?!?!?!?

Hi, im new to this site...plz dont scold me lol...im excited that the evo gingerbread is able to be rooted but im having a problem with my computer rec my phone..i have tried..2 computers...3 cords..1 of them brand new....3 htc drivers from 3 different sites....and still having no dice...i would take any suggestions that you guys have...thank you!
Here are the possibilities with this (I am sure you have read):
1) USB port broken/damaged - Take to sprint exchange thru warranty or look on-line for repair
2) Drivers missing - HTC Sync tends to be the on stop d/l file to install the drivers even for Win7.
3) Cords faulty - You have even tried a new one...eliminate this one.
4) Do you have USB Debugging selected in settings of your Evo? - There are mixed feelings on this as to whether or not this needs to be checked in order to connect. IMO it should be checked.
5) USB port bad on PC. Try different PC, if same result issue is with drivers or bad port.
With this all mentioned, does your notification on either your PC or Evo show up when connected to the PC?
thank you so much; as it turns out the USB port was damaged & they ordered me a new phone

[Q] Com Port when connected to PC?

I have a program I am fiddling with called CDMA workshop which allows you to do...well pretty much anything to any CDMA phone you have connected to the PC, from reading/writing MSLs, lock codes, ESNs, PRLs, and a host of other stuff. Works easily with feature phones, but it requires you to put what com port the phone is using so it can connect to it. It's easy on feature phones, as soon as you connect it, the phone shows up under ports and tells you what it is using. However, when I connect a smart phone, an Epic Touch in my case, it doesn't show up under that. It only shows under USB controllers and ADB Device.
Does anyone know how to pull this up? Or do they not even use Com Ports?
Thanks in advance.
Connect it to Odin. It will tell you which Com port once it is connected.

Ok, second question: is there a way to change that port, through Odin or anything else, once you find it? This particular version of the software I'm using only recognizes com ports 1-10.
Try this:

It changes from computer to computer depending on devices and hardware attached.

It also depends on which USB port you plug into on the pc too mine ranges from com 0 - 3 depending on what port I'm in or if I use my hub

You forgot to put your phone in SERIAL MODE ... From the dialer, type :
##8778#
then select CP instead of AP ...
Now go in your computer to DEVICE MANAGER / PORTS / and you will find a new port called something like : SAMSUNG SERIAL PORT ... You will notice that at the end of the port, you will see in parentheses you COM port number.
Good luck, and DON'T BE SHY PRESSING THAT THANKS BUTTON, under my post !!! ... I'm pretty low )

can't connect via usb anymore?

everything was fine on my rooted sprint S3, until, when I went to connect the USB cord to send over a new mp3 for a ringtone, no new usb storeage device popped up on my computer this time. odd, because i'd connected the phone to my windows7 machine and send files back and forth accross usb before, having installed Sprint_L710_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe and worked around with CDMA workshop etc to great success prior. but for whatever reason, today, the device isn't showing up when plugged into usb.
i've followed some of my own standard debugging, uninstalling & reinstalling the usb drivers etc, other similar threads here recommended taking the phone's battery out a while and retrying, and haven't had any luck. as it is, cdma workshop isn't able to read the basic phone info after connecting to the com port either =s
The device shows in device manager with a com port as it should. The closest thing i can get to an error message instead of a silent failure is, after reinstalling the usb drivers and connecting the device for the first time, it runs though several installations and hangs on "samsung rmnet network driver"
I'm pretty frustrated, as this spontaneous issue and goosechase isn't what i was looking for when i just wanted to send a mp3 from my computer to my phone for the hundredth time =s

Further testing seems to be pointing towards the phone as the issue rather than my computer.
I connected a samsung rant to the original test computer, and was able to query basic phone info with cdma workshop.
I installed the sprint s3 usb drivers on a different computer, connected my device (and it seemed to install correctly, even beyond the samsung rmnet driver step), fired up cdma workshop and I'm still unable to query the basic device info once connected to the com port. cdma workshop says "failed... phone does not answer" and shows 10-12 bad packets.
The phone is otherwise behaving fine, calls, wireless data and all, but it's just not responding well to a usb connection anymore. I'm at a loss for what to try next at this point, can anyone help me think of what more I can do? I've tried connecting both with usb debugging set on and off; and as the only thing I could think of having changed since it last work being the addition of a sdcard, i tried with and without that present in the device.
I had the same problem and it was fixed by just rebooting my PC.
GS3 stopped responding in CDMA Workshop

Just had my third one in a row do the exact same thing...factory reset on the phone straightens it right out.
The situation remained unresolved until I waited for and eventually upgraded to a stock rooted icecream sandwich release. i wouldn't be surprised if the factory reset option would have worked too, but I didn't want to do that.
