Hi.
When I flash PB99IMG_bravo_cm7.zip using CWM, I see about 2 lines of text flash by and then I am back at the main screen. The lines are too fast for me to read. Is this normal behavior?
Ik think you shouldn't flash this file.
You have to rename it to: PB99IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd card.
Then when you volume down+power your device, you will be asked if you want to perform the update. I'd select 'yes'.

That's what I don't get. Some say I have to download and rename the zip file, other say I have to dload and rename the img file. I am lost here
From Alpharev.nl:
You can also download the corresponding PB99IMG zipfile, put it on your sdcard, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Then start the phone in HBOOT mode (VolDown+POWER) to flash the HBOOT without a PC. It is however still necessary to either restore your nandroid, or reflash your ROM after doing this. The partition LAYOUT has changed, the actual data still needs to be 'moved'.

Just tried it. Renamed to zip and copied to sdcard\pb....zip. Booted into hboot with vl down + power. It does it's normal thing when it's looking for the files, but I don't see it doing anything different. Is there supposed to be some message or whatever confirming the operations success?

Are you shure you didn't name it PB......zip.zip?

Hi,
I flashed a modified framework-res.apk I got from the emulator (using the new Gingerbread) and flashed it to Oxygen 1.0. I have a GSM, AMOLED Desire.
Now my sdcard doesn't get recognized anymore and the device isn't able to connect to O2 Germany. When I try to connect the phone to my PC (Windows) I get a message that Windows wants to install a "Qualcomm CDMA technologies MSM" driver.
I still can boot the phone up, I can get into recovery (AmonRa 2.0.0) and fastboot.
Can anyone help me?
Flash a stock ROM - ignore the Windows driver thing, that's to do with a modem if you Google it. Why you'd take something from Gingerbread and try it on FroYo is beyond me - super rookie mistake right there!!

1. It only was the framework-res.apk and I only took the images from it.
2. I don't have access to my sdcard. Is it still possible to flash a stock ROM?
Try flashing a rom via fastboot.

As you are on o2 Germany, grab this RUU:
http://www.o2online.de/nw/support/downloads/software/htc/htcdesire/htc-desire.html
and reroot via unrevoked, gonna delete everything on your device but should work, you might want to take your sd card out of the phone before doing this just in case anything weird happens ;-)
best regards
That's the same as the o2 UK RUU on shipped-roms.com, would also mean no gold card needed to flash it
How can I get the ROM image as zip file? Is it the OTA update.zip?
Edit: Read the next post, some genius information, learned sth new there : >
If you're talkin bout my solution there is no way to get the zip, simply install HTC sync (yes, you have to -.-), fire up the executable and follow the on screen instructions.
It's the full RUU. To get the PB99IMG.zip from it do the following:
1. Run the RUU
2. Once you get to the first screen of the RUU, move it to the bottom of your screen and go to Start>Run and type
%temp%
And click OK
3. Browse to the newest folder created in the Temp folder
4. In the folder will be a ZIP file called Rom - copy this to your Desktop
5. Rename thr ZIP file to PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card
6. Turn your phone on whilst holding volume down and follow the instructions
I think you don't have to flash a RUU rom. Flashing for example oxygen via fastboot again should do the trick.

Better to flash stock again to get everything working again then root again

For that method I said you do NOT need FASTBOOT. So long as you can connect you SD card to your PC to copy the ZIP file to it and turn your phone on into HBOOT then you'll be fine. If, and it's a big if, it doesn't read the card then yes you'll have to use FASTBOOT and an RUU - you don't need HTC Sync for that

Currently it's just a piece of hardware that is only capable of using WiFi. I can't damage it more. But maybe you're right. I will install the unchange zip file.
But it would be interesting to know what went wrong. Why does using images from the Gingerbread emulator framework-res.apk for a FroYo ROM leads to such an result?
Because the rest of the ROM isn't Gingerbread. It's completely different. It's like me taking a customised framework file and trying to use it on a stock ROM. It doesn't work
Just go back to stock and start again. That way you know you've got a clean base to start from

Flashing Custom MTD/HBOOT
Once S-OFF is done, you are ready to flash the custom MTD/HBOOT. This step changes your internal memory partition table such that the new RoM can fit appropriately while leaving lot of room for user data. Once this is done, the old RoM will no longer work with the new layout of MTD. Before doing this step, ensure all your backups are in place and you have copied all necessary files to the SD Card. (The ROM .zip and the .zip for HBOOT if you are using method 2 below)
Before you do this, it is a good idea to ensure that your HBOOT download is correct and not corrupted. You can do this but checking the MD5 checksum of your download againts the MD5 checksum listed on alpharev site against the download. You can use any of the free tools available.
There are two ways to do this:
Method 1 - fastboot flash: If you downloaded the .img file linked earlier, use the following procedure to install it:
Power down the phone and turn it back on with the back button pressed down; you will see the "fastboot" screen,
From your PC command line, cd into the folder where your android-sdk is and cd into tools folder,
Connect the phone to PC via USB cable,
Run the following command: 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' replacing the .img filename with the appropriate path and file name (Eg: C:\Downloads\HTC\RoM's\bravo_alphaspl-cm7.img),
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
Select bootloader then select Recovery (use volume up/down to change, and power key to accept the choice),
WARNING: Don't reboot your phone as yet because the MTD you flashed doesn't match your current Rom's layout so it will probably boot-loop or brick your phone,
Method 2 - HBOOT autoflash: If you downloaded the .zip file linked earlier, follow this method:
Rename the .zip file to "PB99IMG.zip" and copy it to the root of your SD card,
Shutdown your phone and restart it into HBOOT (Voldown + power button),
When the phone starts, it automatically will detect the zip file and install the MTD,
Now you can enter recovery and follow the procedure.
Note: Many users have had CID errors when trying this method so it is recommended to use Method 1 above

Do I need to install android SDK manager again?
edit: nevermind. ADB doesnt recognise my phone
Download latest SDK and make sure you download Android SDK platform-tools revision 3, as well (in the additional packages)
Plus you must install the USB drivers from Unrevoked's site.

what should i do?

Ive done both of that,

Ive tried using HTC sync before trying unrevoked method and still had the same issue
Did you uninstall HTC Sync?
You have to install HTC Sync first, then uninstall it but leave the drivers installed. Then plug the phone in and do the process in the unrevoked-link which davebugyi has already posted.
The adpwinapi.dll-file is in "platform-tools" folder. Just copy that file into the "tools" -folder (the folder, where the fastboot.exe-file is located) and you're done.

Can anyone please explain the advantage of flashing a different HBOOT other than stock rooted one?
LOTS more available memory.
i have the oxygen hboot installed and with a dozen apps i still have 267mb free.
with the stock hboot i would be running out of memory by now

This memory would be RAM memory, right? We're not talking free space for installs, but rather free mem space for running apps?
Also, do I have to S-off to flash hboot? So far I only have rooted device (rooted using unREVOKED).
nope we are talking about space for installing apps
the oxygen hboot alters the partition sizes for system and cache.
whats left is the data partition and thats all all yours
Stock Hboot about 147mb data partition
new hboot 337
so 190mb more
Hi guys,
I have a problem where I am trying to flash a rom by placing PB99IMG.zip in the root of my SD card and booting into HBOOT.
HBOOT checks for all the standard files but skips the PB99IMG.zip I loaded as if it wasn't there.
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
I tried different zips, ones I downloaded directly from shipped roms and another one I extracted from an RUU. None of them seem to be recognized, they all get ignored.
Which RUU did you get the ZIP from? And have you called it PB99IMG.zip (not .zip.zip)?
The SD card ur using is it a goldcard
The Best Things Come To Those Who Wait
I tried these ones:
RUU_Bravo_Telstra_WWE_1.15.841.14_R4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_123851.exe
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Telstra_WWE_2.26.841.2_Radio_32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14_release_150162_signed.exe
The later one was downloaded straight from the HTC website, after inserting my IMEI number so it's official.
I also tried to make a gold card but it still didn't work. I am also rooted so I shouldn't need a goldcard anyway?
Does the HBOOT on the phone (currently 0.93) have to be the same version as the HBOOT that the zip is expecting?
Found this somewhere else, xda is being funny at my end else i'd reference it properly and give credit where its due.
You can extract the ROM.zip from any RUU to install via ZIP
Start the RUU and once at the first main screen click Start>Run and type
%temp%
now, find the newest folder and in there will be a ZIP file called Rom - copy this to your desktop and rename it PB99IMG. Now copy this to your SD card and start the phone in HBOOT (turn it on whilst holding volume down). It will find the file and start the update. Just follow the instructions...
It will wipe your phone, though

Hello Yoda,
What you describe is exactly what I did. I renamed the rom.zip file I found in the temp folder to PB99IMG.zip (not ...zip.zip).
I booted into HBOOT but the file just gets ignored. I also installed alpharev custom HBOOT to see if S-OFF would make any difference. It still gets ignored!!
Can anyone help?
If not, is there any way to downgrade HBOOT (say from 0.93 to 0.92) without using PB99IMG.zip?
I had same problem with HBOOT 0.93
You need to downgrade to stock Hboot.
I used this tool :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Follow the instructions ( my phone was not branded , worked for me without a gold card ) , downgrade , after that unrevoked3 , alpharev = S-off Desire
Hi aditirex,
I tried tool you mentioned. I ran the linux version. Everything looked promising, I got no errors but the downgrade didn't happen. I still have HBOOT 0.93 when I rebooted.
Does anyone else know any ways to downgrade HBOOT without using PG99IMG.zip?
(I even tried to format with FAT32 using a card reader, and then the goldcard tool - still nothing)
Anyone? Please?
I really need to get this done to claim my warranty.
I read in another post that you can flash HBOOT using the android SDK:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
But I'm guessing this is an image saved by a nandroid backup.
Does anyone know if I can obtain the img file from PB99IMG.zip?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667 . Use one that is not froyo . It should revert the phone to default settings .

Download this onto your phone.
Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (or just delete the TWRP_2.8.7.0_ part) and place it onto the root of your extSD.
Boot into bootloader, and select hboot if it doesn't do it automatically. Follow the prompts (vol up to flash, power button to reboot), and that's it.
After the recovery is flashed, delete the renamed file from your extSD. Otherwise every time you boot to hboot, it'll try to flash again.

Remember .. on Marshmallow, never select to install SuperSU offered by TWRP, not working on MM.

Hi, I'm trying to do this same thing because I can't properly get ADB and Fastboot working on my windows 10 laptop. What's the "android-info" file, because I have the HTC One M8 on Verizon with Lollipop 5.0.1. The software number is 4.17.605.9. Thanks!
Hello XDA, hello M9 users!
So, i rooted my phone back in September just to use some simple apps like Greenify, AdAway, etc. Yesterday the official Android 6.0 update arrived and I wanted to update. So I flashed the stock recovery and relocked my bootloader aaaand that was it. Everything was going ok untill the phone got in to the recovery. When it started to update the loading bar filled like 1/4. After that the red sign appeared on my screen. After that i just hard reseted my phone and everything was working ok and tried again but the same problem persisted. I started looking here on forums but i didn't find exact answeres except one. The guy sad: "The problem was solved. It took me 6 hours to manage this. All you need to do is re flash the stock backup with TWRP. ". Sadly I don't have the stock backup from my phone. And I'm thinking to reinstall TWRP recovery and flash version 1.32.401.8* from the thread called "HTC ONE M9 Stock File Collection (RUUs, Backups, etc.) - with linked Instructions" because I think that's the most stock version of this phone. So i have this question: should I do this or not? I am kinda noob, I am definetly not a pro with these things. I only know the basics and I am kindly asking for help. I will attach photos with phone info and everything that I mentioned here in the text. (sorry for my english, I'm trying my best)
If you guys find any solution I will be pleased to hear them!
Phone status:
-Rooted
-Bootloader: Relocked
-S ON
-Stock recovery (recovery version 2.10.401.1)
-SD Card capacity: 8GB only (i don't know if this helps)
-Stock 5.1 HTC Sense 7.0 (Software nr. 2.10.401.1)
-CID number: HTC__102
Thank you in advance!
Remember any changes with system such as root will cause OTA not work well. All you need to do is flash a RUU with right version.Or you can restore from TWRP with stock backup and flash stock recovery then you can get OTA.
If you want to install that update you either need the 2.10.401.1 backup or the corresponding RUU. As soon as you flash anything via TWRP your system gets mount as read/write. OTAs check the status of your system and fail if it's modified (=uninstalled system apps, root, etc.) and/or not mounted as read-only. Unrooting is not enough. You need to reflash an untouched system image (either via RUU or TWRP). Instructions can be found in my google sheet which is linked in post #5 of the thread where you found the 1.32.401.8 backup or in my signature.
Edit: Looks like I didn't type my answer fast enough.

So the only thing i need to do is download "2.10.401.1.zip" RUU from your google sheet, copy it to my SD Card and enter in download mode and just wait untill it's done? Is this working with S-On?
It needs to be renamed correctly and the SD card needs to be formatted to fat32 (as stated in the instructions above the download links ). With S-ON you can use RUUs that have the same or a higher version than your phone. You only need S-OFF if you want to flash RUUs with a lower version (=downgrade) or one with a different SKU (the three numbers behind the second dot of the firmware version) than the one your phone got shipped with.

I am S-On and i don't want to S-Off. I don't want a lower version of RUU and i just want to simply upgrade to Android 6.0. So am I doing the right thing?

Your version is 2.10.401.1 and the RUU has version 2.10.401.1, too.
Re-read my last post. I never said that you should S-OFF. You wanted to know whether you can use a RUU with S-ON and I explained why S-OFF is not needed in your situation.

I have downloaded and copied the file on my SD Card using an SD Card reader because it wouldn't let me copy it using USB. The SD Card is FAT32 and i renamed the file to "0PJAIMG.zip". When i boot into the download mode it just enters download mode. It doesn't ask me if i want to flash the file. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Are you sure you didn't rename it to "0PJAIMG.zip.zip". Looking at the "nmdsdcid" file I assume that file extensions aren't visible on your pc which could be the reason for your mistake.

Thank you @Flippy498! Succesfully updated to Android 6.0!
So @Flippy498 saved my day with #3.
After getting to his really nice collection which can be found here and here I downloaded a TWRP Backup for my CID.
Remember fastboot getvar cid ?
Then I followed his nice tutorial until Step 5, but skipped 1 - 3.

01. Format your SD card with a PC to exfat and put it back into your phone.
02. Boot to TWRP.
03. Create a backup on your external SD card. (Backing up "Boot" is more than enough. We only want TWRP to create the needed directories on your SD card.)
04. Download the correct backup for your firmware version. (It is stated in the line with "OS" at the beginning when you boot to download mode. The "firmware version" in "settings>about>software information>more" is only the base of the rom you are running.)
05. Unzip the downloaded backup.
06. Copy the unzipped backup folder to "TWRP/BACKUPS/<YourSerialnumber>/"on your SD card. Sometimes this is only possible if the SD card is directly connected to your PC and not put into your phone. I don't know why some M9s refuse the copy process.

So here was my problem, I have no external sd-card in my phone and trying to copy the 4.2 GB File via "Android Transfer" brought up the error, that files largen then 4GB are not supported to copy.
So I first made sure I prepared the following steps:

07. I recommend wiping everything except "Micro SDcard", "USB-OTG" and "SD-Ext".
08. Check the "Mount system as read-only" box in the Mount menu.

Now make a folder structure like in Step 6 (if you are still in TWRP, no problem use the "mkdir <foldername>" command via the advanced tools tab. (read on, I tell you where it is)
So then, instead I copied the 2GB zip file in that folder and went to advanced tools in TWRP. There I chose the "execute command" tool, went inside the folder with the serialnumber and clicked select.
Now a command line appears and I entered "unzip" and the name of the zipfile ... well that took some time ... dont tend to klick kill ... you can make 3 coffees in that time (I advise you to drink only two :silly: otherwise you get overexcited)
After that another folder with the name of the zipfile shows up. Go back and click restore - then check that folder and three X Marks will appear, showing you that these mounts will be overwritten.
Now swipe to restore and go on:

09. Restore the backup.
10. Boot to system (ignore the warning that no OS is installed). This process may actually take a while!
11. Congrats! Your system is now stock and able to receive and install official OTAs, again.
