Kernel - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently the source for the G2 was just released. But apparantly its been said the G2 shares certain things with the DHD. Would a kernel from the DHD work on the G2/Z? Or would it be "suicide" to even think of such blasphemy?

The kernels that have been released by rmk for his virtuous g-lite and fusion roms where built from the DHD source, it turned out that everthing we need was in there. I don't think it would be suicide to flash a DHD kernel but I would strongly advise against it.

Hmm. I have been wondering what to do with this situation. This cyanogenmod kernel SUCKS.

What version of CM are you using? The recent nightlies have an updated kernel. Or if your using an older version just use pershoots kernel if you don't like the stock one.

Froyo in Desire without Sense?

Hi guys,
I have ported my desire to froyo using DJ Droid's ROM.
My question here,is there any way to port Froyo into Desire without Sense?
I think Android without Sense is much cooler
Is like to know the answer to this as well. Surely this developer has combined the source of 2.2 with elements from the desire 2.1 source?

Errrrm, have you actually read the forum? http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628
are you two serious?? lol
Hehe try flahsing DeFroST 2.0 instead of DJ DROID's Rom that will give you a stock android version of 2.2. I am currently using it and not disappointed at all!

Sensation Rom for desire HD

Is there a HTC sensation Rom that works on the desire HD?
If it dose is there lots of bugs and should I wait for a bit?
Plenty of sense 3 and 3.5 roms in the rom section.
You should check out Virtuous Unity which is a port of the Sensation. I'm running the latest which is 2.37 and its been nothin but fast and smooth with virtually no bugs. I highly recommend it.

This modaco one is meant to be pretty close to stock version of the new DHD official sense 3.0. I assume you want an official sense 3.0 ROM? It has some changes that are listed:

Will dhd get an official but slightly changed sence 3.0 Rom from HTC?

My understanding is that it wont, Paul form Modaco had quite a time squeezing the sense 3.0 onto the DHD, saying that they got the last sense rom onto the Desire so don't give up just yet.

I'm not sure what you mean by slightly changed?
Eventually it will be released by HTC as an official update (I assume, if they went to the effort of making it?).
The new ARHD, Leedroid and few others are based off the official DHD 3.06.405.1 which is Android 2.3.5 plus Sense 3.0 (designed for DHD) which is from HTC.
That modaco one I linked to before uses the same base as these other roms but is much closer to stock.
Slightly, stuff missing from 3.0 on sensation because HTC say it can't work. I know that was a leak but it shows intent for an official update.

Most anticipated ROMs for the desire?

Hi everyone
In your opinion, what ROM under development now do you think is the one to wait for?
The one that you can't wait to reach a stable version, or that will give the desire some more days to live?

Oxygen is the one for me ;-)
That would be an ICS Rom with Sense
Oxygen 3, because if it fails, I'm soooo looking forward to going back to FroYo it is barely possible.
CM9 is the one i'm looking forward to - hopefully it will run without performance issues on the Desire!

Totally agree. Waiting impatiently for CM9. Hope it will be made for Desire. Now using MIUI. Satisfied with it.
ICS on Desire will require A LOT of magic.
Got to be ics rom if it can't be done shall be upgrading my Desire.

I'd love ICS on my Desire but I think HTC Sense will just mask many of the major UI improvements in Android and our phones are probably to slow to run the new sense that will be present on a 4.0 ROM
Ice Cream Sandwich should run better than 2.x, on the Desire Z, since it uses hardware acceleration for the UI across the board, right?
I can't wait to see an ICS ROM for the G2

I disagree. Lots of tech stuff from Sense is now directly in the system, which means Sense will be lighter, witch means it will be smaller, which means... You get the picture.
Waiting for cm9. Though I'll be buying the new nexus as soon as it comes to Norway. Its gonna be sad to put my desire away. We'be been through so much together..

Personally I'm waiting for CM9. Though my desire already looks a lot like ICS.
The ROM i'm waiting for is Oxygen V3.
after that CM9.
hope ICS on Desire is possible anyway.
What I'm waiting for is Oxygen 3, then I will see of CM9 is good or not. Finally, I will hope to see a stable ICS Rom with Sense. (although that would take quite a while )

Have you or anybody else tried this? Apart from the camera, is this ROM good for daily usage yet?
Some people said they are using it as daily ROM, i havent tried it yet.
I got a theme for cm7 but its a 3d one that I got from 4shared its great I love it but I wanted one with more features if u guys know wat I mean
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA App
I tried it about two days. You could use it daily. (SMS, calling, alarm... works).
Cheers. Would you see it as an "upgrade" to the likes of MIUI-XJ rom?
This thread is a sad example of why xda went into sewers this year.
You keep it coming, guys. I know you can buried it even deeper.
i used it until today, but now there is another one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416641&page=1
I had it flashed also, it works well daily but i switched back to CM7 due to not having the camera Function.
Hopefully soon everything will be working
ics but sense rom

Proportion of Android versions on desire

Hey guys I thought it would be interesting to start a poll to find out what are the android versions that people are using on our 2+years old HTC Desire.
For me, I'm running ics.. what about you guys???

Most are using Gingerbread. Some are on ICS. Any user who is still on Froyo at this point probably doesn't have any idea about rooting and or XDA or just wanna be left alone in the past.
No need for a poll or a thread really.

Ye.
Best rom thread with a flavor twist.
I'm on ICS now (miui v4)
MIUI 2.3 working perfectly
ICS too ! With the rom of dk_zero-cool.
Everything runs fast on my old device
would be interesting who is still on 2.1
I think that was the shipping version, right?
Still using xj miui 2.3
Currently on off GB, downloading runnymede's sense 3.5 rom

I'm on Miui ICS... !!! Best ROM ever
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
I'm using ICS from DK_Zero-Cool (v3.3u1). Most stable one i've experienced until now
MIUI XJ since New year, probably will try with some Sense ROM soon
I'm still using CM7.2 RC1. Very stable and fast.
Could anyone explain to me why everybody is so hyped about ICS? I mean I appreciate what the devs of ICS ROMs do and it's great that they make ICS possible on our old Desires.
I tried Sandvold's ROM and BCM. They're quite good and making good progess, but I always came back to CM7.
I actually don't see a point in switching to ICS (yet) unless you like flashing and testing new ROMs, because CyanogenMod 7 and other 2.3 ROMs seem more stable and faster and they have all the features ICS offers.
Is it the looks of ICS or just that it's new and you want to test it?
I'll probably switch over eventually, but at the moment I'm just curious what you like about ICS.
