Greetings gents,hows it going?
I got a question,i managed to overclock my phone to stable [email protected]
But now im trying to push it to [email protected],and its working properly atm,30mins of Stability test and running good.
My only concern is...im watching the temperature and its at 43ºC atm..which isnt exactly "cold" .
My question is,which are the max secure temperatures this beast can go before getting in the risk of frying the CPU?
Thanks in advance ^
PS : I tried searching around but all i found is VSel's...im interested in temps rather than VSel's.
Respect
Is that your battery temp or the CPU temp?
If it's battery temp, I'd be starting to be concerned there. CPU's can handle way higher temps though, 80+C before I'd get worried at all.
But try it out in the sun, too.

Hmm tbh im not sure which temp it is,StabilityTest says "Temperature"p,now i got no idea tbh which of them it is XD
Time to try again
EDIT : Yep,those 43 - 44ºC are Battery Temps,so should i worry?o.o
80ºC, that's for laptops and desktops, even i start getting warnings in syslog at 85ºC in my core i5 laptop with fan running max speed, and we are talking about a phone processor encased with other chips in a very little space and with no heat dissipation at all... you could not hold it up at 80º though burning and melting on your hands.
There's a lot of info about batteries here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery
I dont think defy is able to drain enough energy to increase battery temperature to dangerous levels, but with temperatures above 40º chemistry inside battery is going to suffer, the higher the temps the less cycles of charge you are gonna get and you are risking a permanent loss of capacity.
The best way for a long life battery is small charges from 25% to 80%
Multiple charges between 80%-100% is the worst thing one can do.
anyway reaching 43º for battery during stress test is not for concern
Battery Monitor Widget is a very good program to keep an eye, and see graphs and stats of battery temps consumption projections and estimations of of juice left.. its simply amazing runs 24/7 and if you dont open it to play with it, it only takes about 10 seconds of total cpu power per day. i would recommend it. So it wont eat your battery when monitoring it, and the same goes for "process monitor" which is perfect to know total cpu power eaten by all apps trhough the day.

Oh Right,
Yeh its true that the best would be from totally discharged to totally charged for its life.
And good to know 43ºC isnt panic-able yet cause the phone runs very well on 1.3GHz/65 and a score of 2700 of Quadrant (Impressive aint it).
Anyways, thanks for all the info =)

Running 1400MHz/87vsel i have reached 48C in a few minutes. Oc over 1200MHz is not good for battery.

I understand you can overclock your device, I have personally done it upto 597MHZ, but you know how on a regular PC it shortens the life of a CPU Processor like, 10% or something, will it do the same to your phone? Because if my phone dies in a year I'm going to be very angry!
Hi
Rarely...
When you ask about it, you'll receive several diffrent blah-blahs.
The truth is that overcloking causes the processor to run hotter.
You "can" damage CPU by overcloking it drastically, but rarely.
The first syndrome of too high overclock, is that CPU start to do errors (hangups, etc). If the overclockes CPU is working fine, that you shouldn't worry about anything.
As for lifespan... who can measure this 10% of reduced life, when such processor can last for ages. Well, maybe not ages, but long enough to bring your device to a technology museum's exhibition.
Ow.. overclocking causes more battery drain... well... such is life

the only thing that will happen if you overclock your device, is battery drainage, and sometimes your device will crash.

i just did that on mine, it made my pc loads faster, i wasnt greedy tho, i just notched it up a little.
1. Turn your device ON, charge the device for 8 hours or more
2. Unplug the device, turn the phone OFF, charge for 1 hour
3. Unplug the device, turn ON wait 2 minutes (basically when the phone is all booted up and ready), turn OFF, charge for 1 hour
Happy longer battery life everyone!

Ive done the method from that thread and it worked the first time, second time and more didnt see any difference really unless you do that every charge but i guess that would just kill the battery
I have done all the above and did't see any changes
Would be nice if this would work, but I doubt it...
That doesnt do anything, i get good battery from not having any auto sync updates, brightness is low, widgets for 3g, gps wifi etc.. thats how i get up to 2 days normal usage on full load.
Didn't make any significant changes to mine. I guess if it ever really works then this would be a brain new, never charged battery.
I can only make like up to 24:00 (no use), usualy 7-10 hours of moderate use, can kill in an hour our two on gps.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I used this method when I got Desire and it worked very well! In a meanwhile my battery life weakened, probably because of new ROMs and kernels...so should I repeat this to extend battery life?
that reads like overloading the battery. didnt that just work for the old type of batteries?
HTC uses Ni-MH batts, guys. These things attain long lifespans through two things mostly:
a) keeping it protected from extreme temperatures
b) frequent top-ups
I don't think the idea of keeping it plugged in after full charge is a good idea. The ff is from batteryuniversity.com:
"Lithium-ion suffers stress when exposed to heat and kept at a high charge voltage.
Elevated temperature is anything that dwells above 30°C (86°F), and a high voltage is higher than 4.10V/cell. When estimating longevity, these conditions are difficult to assess because the battery state is in constant flux, and so is the temperature in which it operates. Exposing the battery to high temperature and being at full state-of-charge for an extended time can be more damaging than cycling."
Doesn't work for me I really need more battery life!
I learned a long time ago, even before my smart phone days, that battery life is something I'll never had.
Quick fixes will never work, but preparedness will. For instance; I have 3 charging cables. 1 at home, 1 at work and one in my car. I even had a spare battery for my previous phone.
Things like the first post, I'll never bother trying. It's silly. And looking at the poll results says it all.
I recently did it and I got 2 days out of my battery.
But I assume it will weaken over time and slowly have no effect.

What kernel is your ROM using?
Kernel's have a big impact on the life of your battery. I know mine doubled switching from kernels.
my phone has just recently started to give me the 15% warning then 2 minutes later switch off.
I used to get 10% and 5% before auto shut down.
I'm debranded orange on stock
2.2 2.29.405.5 (release keys)
kernel
2.6.32.15 [email protected]#1 (whatever that means)
Is this caused by software/rom based issues or is my battery on the way out?
(I did the fix in the OP and it did have a positive effect but that was months ago)
don't believe it's a good idea

Surely when the charge reaches 100% the charge is stopped?
I just got out of the shower and grabbed my phone, to have it literally burn me. The hottest I've ever seen it get (while still on) was 180°F and this was way hotter, I'd guess around 250°F. Why is this? It was charging, not over clocked at the time, limited to 2 background processes, and the app "reddit is fun" was the only thing open.
Phones in the freezer at the moment, so I can only hope it and the battery didn't suffer any internal damage. Wheres the thermal cut off? (That was not disabled in Franco.kernel settings)

First you are going to need to tell us what you have modified to the phone. Also remove it from the freezer as this thermal shock can cause more damage. simply remove the battery from it. is this a stock battery? did you turn on fast charge?4was this under your pillow while it was charging? etc etc. we need more information to properly help you. and was this battery temp that you measured or cpu core temp?

Running CM10, Franco kernel. Battery is stock, no fast charge. It was slightly under the pillow (but it always is, this is the first time I had this problem since I got it in February). I didn't measure the temp (phone wouldn't even go on so I just pulled the battery before it got any hotter), its just an estimate because I know it was above 180°F.

Cells are storage tested at 65C and charge temps can reach higher than that. I wouldnt have a panic attack over this instance but the next time you charge it, monitor it with a battery app that displays battery temperature. Your battery could be going bad.

Download System Panel from the Play Store and monitor your CPU activity and active apps. I've had rouge apps churn my processors @100% before. It's a sure fire way to generate heat!
Damn, i had so high expectations seeing a picture of a HOT naked nexus (I know...hard to get much hotter then it is right now) after reading the title, but alas no such luck
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Actually when is the best time to charge the phone battery?
1) Less than 50%?
2) Less than 25%?
3) First warning at 14%?
4) Second warning at 4%?
5) Last warning at 1%?
6) Completely finish it?
Actually there is no definite need for a "best time" to charge.
Lithium batteries are best kept in charged state. Draining it to 0% won't do you any good neither.
My policy charging is to charge when its above 30%.
Because it in an extremely slight way harms the lithium-ions when it goes down to 0%.
Which is why all battery calibrating guides discourages frequent calibrating.
Low battery does not damage the device or the battery but it does create more radiation than usual.
Which is bad for human organs. That's the down side to low battery.
Last but not least, it is better to keep your phone charged than emptied at all times. Right?
Press thanks if you think I'm helpful. Thankyou.
Best is to recharge it when it's more than half full, because it won't have to endure heat for too long.
Heat is the #1 enemy for Li-ion batteries.

Thanks for your both advices. I always used until battery low warning appear. Is it good if I charge & play at the same time? And how long before unplug the charger after fully charged?
You're welcome.
Its not recommended though, your battery heats up extremely quickly if you charge while you play.(watching SD quality video is okay though, since the cpu isn't stressed to provide smoothness)
I do that once in awhile but once the temperature struck 40celcius I quit playing. (you'll notice, it gets hot real quick...)
You can download a battery status app to check its temperature.
Basically once its full its okay to unplug. Overcharging is extremely bad.

Why should it say 1500 mah? The screen is not the only thing that drains the battery, you know that, right?
Running any benchmark will cause many battery drain. Don't do that. And that app you have to see the cpu temperature, 42º is not high for CPU. For battery it is.

What help? Get a new battery or go away from Snapdragon devices. And, the screen usage is about right, because i don't know if you know, but the screen you are staring at is 1440x2560, or 2K, which is an insane resolution, and crammed in a 5.5 inch display at 538 ppi, it will consume A LOT. And the battery is just 3AH, which seemed much, but compared to the S5, with a 1080p display and a 2.6AH battery, the G3 has the worst SOT out of the 2014 flagship lineup.

The 2K screen doesn't consume that much power. There are mods which allow you to lower the resolution, but you won't see much or any increase in battery life or performance (maybe in games it's going to be most noticeable).

Sounds like a bad battery. Quite possibly a reason why the other person decided to sell it in the first place. How old is the device that you purchases?
You can get an original replacement battery online for a few dollars. Just make sure you use a reputable vendor, like LG's official website.

But when i add up usage it totals lower then the battery capacity, they total up to 1000mah at 50%, when it should be 1500mah
Do you have any benchmarks i can try so i can see if its working right or its just me.

Oh so it's a brand new LG? How many hours of screen usage are you getting, what usage (web browsing, checking email or playing games?) and with what period of idle time.
Don't trust the numbers in the battery stats, especially in a new ROM. They are supposed to get better over time but I've found them to be wildly inaccurate even on months old ROM. I haven't really found an application you can benchmark accurately with.
But you compare with other (real) results on the foruns and rather you get the hang of what's the normal usage you should be getting out of a good battery.
Did you make a day without running any benchmark apps? What is your SOT? Standby time? Do you have location, wifi, bluetooth,NFC,mobile data on?
All of this matters. You shouldn't start right away with "I have problems with my battery" if you are running benchmark apps. Benchmark apps drains battery!
Wait a few days without running that apps and see how it manages. Another thing. The battery stats, the mah usage, not all of the things appears in the default android battery stats. And another thing, the battery value (the percentage of the battery), it is an approximation. Sometimes it could go up without charging, it is because it detected that has a wrong value. You could try charge your phone to 100%, usage it normally until 0%, until it turns off. Then charge it again to 100% and use it normally (don't discharge to 0% to many times, it just hurts the battery).

Oh yeah, considering you even streamed the movie, it's signs of a good new and healthy battery. 3 hours of SoT with internet browsing is quite the norm, and 4 hours is on the up side.
I can barely get to 2 hours of SoT with my now aging battery.

It's not about the software side of things, it's about that my battery is old now, and that's why happens to old batteries, the just deteriorate.
Thankfully the LG G3 has an easily replaceable battery, and I have a replacement waiting for me. Not getting a phone on which you can't remove the battery..
And never found those apps like Greenify to really work, at least in the last few years of Android. The OS seems to be doing just of a good a job and I see no improvement in battery life. Maybe they help in cases with poorly written apps that are draining your battery in the background, but I don't see why would you use such a software in the first place.
