[Q] Can someone help me FIX MY OUTGOING CALL problem?? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help...
I need my phone to work tomorrow. I cant seem to make any outgoing calls. There is a short beep and the phone disconnects.
Have tried removing and putting back the battery and sim card, restarting... nothing seems to work. HELP.
I cant work complicated software stuff, unless someone is kind enough to give me a step by step plan.

Can you receive calls and send texts?
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!

can msg but still no outgoing ?
Yup....I can send and receive messages. I can even receive calls...just can't make one. Tried installing a network app... as suggested by a couple of sites... it seemed to block both incoming and outgoing calls. Uninstalled it and am right where I started.

Try factory resetting it.

I'm having an App Attack!
Im trying really hard not to do that coz it will mean loosing a fun lot of ebooks. Strangely when you do a factory reset, and download most ebook reader apps. Some of the books that were available for free download earlier don't show up at all.
Do you think there is anything else I could try besides that?

Just do a backup with titanium backup it should keep you from losing your data.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Ok.. will try that.

I have downloaded the Titanium Backup App. However my phone isn't 'rooted' and I run the very serious risk of bricking it if I do something wrong. thats a very real risk of a LOT of my hard earned money doing down the tube. Any words of wisdom on rooting...
Found this: pocketnow.com/android/how-to-root-your-htc-desire-hd
Is it safe to follow this how to?
this is such unexplored territory for me and much of this is WAYY over my head. I'm willing to try it, but I really cant afford another phone, so please humor me and give me your informed opinion.

Thanks for your help. Did a hard reset and a couple of hours later, the outgoing call function works!! WOOO HOOO for that part of it. However, my phone was not rooted and I lost all my apps..
Thanks anyway!

M2000

Sorry to annoy everybody, I have had my M2000 a while now and there are a few things I would like a hand with.
1) I unlocked the M2000 and am currently using it on O2 pay and go. However I cannot use GPRS, if anybody could help me out by telling me settings and/or how to connect properly I would be very grateful!
2) I am running Windows Mobile SE Version 4.21.1088 (build 14132) are there any upgrades possible at all to be able to use Windows Media Player 10? I don’t mind upgrading operating system as long as it doesn’t cost too much.
3) Is there a way to back up just my text messages from the M2000 so I can have them saved on my computer and/or my 1 GB SD card?
4) Finally (sorry about this) does anybody know why sometimes when I make calls I can’t hear the dial or the person talking but they can hear me? I have checked the volume (I'm not that dumb) but resetting it is the only thing that works, which is pretty annoying.
Thank you very much for your help. I know there are probably a million listings with these answers but if you could direct me to them or give me your own verdict I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks again.
1. do a search in the forum maybe excluded to the networking it forum
search string should be something along these lines "gprs AND payandgo"
or something like that
2
read this
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Home
3. again search for something like "SMS AND backup"
Thanks for that Rudegar, if anybody else can help me out on this one too, I would really appreciate it. You gave me a link to download WM5, are you currently using WM5, and would you recommend it? I have no programming experience really and it looks quite complicated to install so much so I don’t know what some of the files are etc. will there be an easier version where all you have to do is click a button and it will auto install? You’re the clever one here so ill do whatever you recommend, ill take your word for it. Thanks again Rudegar, if anybody else can help please do.
Thank you.
I have had my M2000 for about 2 months and for about the last month i have also been have the same problem as number 4, where people i call can hear me but i cant hear them, when i fiddle with the volume slider on the side i can sometimes (only sometimes) hear a split second of sound from the other person, its SO annoying having to reset
could be a radiostack issue
maybe an upgrade of it will fix it
also had some issues with my xda2 when people call it sometimes take awhile before they can hear me
the cause of that is bluetooth tools which seem to be trying to direct my call to my bluetooth headset
dont matter if i have a bluetooth headset though it still try take about 10sec before they hear me then
Hmmm, glad to hear I'm not the only one with that problem. It is really annoying though having to reset it when i need to make a call. I'm worried about using a radio update as I don't have a clue about who has made it and what it will do especially if its a con. Where can i go about getting a trusted Radio update? Talking about updates, is there a ROM update available?
Guys install this cab file it will fix your problem..
Or while you don't hear the other party just turn on the BT then turn it back OFF this will solve..
read these pages

there you get all you need to know about upgrades of all kind
I have taken a huge risk in installing WM5... Well I'm doing my best anyway. I need some help though.
I have so far got to re-partitioning and formatting my device but whenever I press format an error message comes up saying "Error FL_IOCTL_FORMAT_PHYSICAL_DRIVE failed" what the heck does that mean? can anybody help me out?
Big thanks to everybody who has helped me out so far with this and for anybody elce if you can help me, please do.
Thanks.
Anyone know if it is possible to remove a cab file like this after I have installed it? I've loaded it and it seems to have screwed up my pocket pc.
Thanks,
Cian
PHEW!!
I'm so glad i didn't install that cab. I was weary to start with and I'm glad i didn't it appears to be some sort of intruder on a pocket PC which jumbles up the settings. Just for anybody elce who is about to download it, take some advice, DONT PLEASE!!! I'm trying to upgrade my ROM but orange are crappy and dont supply ROM updates yet. Ill try the I-Mate Update. Fingers crossed. Thanks again to everybody who's helped me out!

PLEASE, for the love of God... stop tormenting me WM!

Why does this phone have to be soft reset so often...
Why does it eventually lag and hang up all the time randomly? I tried so many different roms and they just all result to the same problems after a few weeks use.
Is there no way to make this phone reliable???
I am ranting because I missed my job opportunity with a really big company because my phone froze when they called me and didn't receive my voicemails till days later for what ever reason....
This was the one and only time I really didn't want my phone to hang up, and it had to happen when the company CEO decided to call me back, but since my phone was stupid I wasn't able to respond to the offer in time (2 days later)...
Please... I'm tired of these Windows Mobile Problems...
Dang, that was a bad break. srry that happened to You. dayuum..i know u was pissed. so did it freeze up on u with the stock rom or some custom one u flashed to it? i never had my stock rom freeze up on me. Only when i was constantly trying new apps and downloads or drivers, it tried to act funny. Id reapply for that position and if u get to the point of call back again, take it and try to explain what happened the first time. All isnt lost, just keep your head up and keep trying.

Me too. Anyway, wish you luck if you decide to call back CEO and explain whats happened.
SlimJ87D you got pm
Sue Microsoft for selling you software that's not fit for purpose. It could turn into a class action because I'd say that statement could well be true about lots of software they sell.
Having used the TP2 for half a year, I have had none of the problems you mention.

I have been using WM for almost 4 years and everything SlimJ87D mentions makes total sense to me
i've been using WM since 2003 (7years exactly this august) and i cant remember the last time my device has hung up on me where calls/msgs didn't come in.
Also i'm what you'd call a power user, multiple apps open at the same time and doing 3 things at once.
The majority of lock-ups are from low ram. So just make sure you ram is always good, doing a system cache/temp file clean every now and then (i use dinarsoft's memmaid) and you should be good.
Also sometimes a buggy software will cause the device to freeze, up to you to figure out which one it is if you suspect one.
Best of luck and sucks about that job.
About 2 years ago my exchange server went down without me knowing and wasn't getting emails, when they finally did come through the next morning, i had received an important email concerning a contract deal, called the person back and they had gone with a competitor because i didn't reply soon enough. Lost some money on that and still pissed about it but technology does that to us every now and then.

A lot depends on the phone model and how well you tweak it. I've not had any trouble once the phone was operating correctly. This is one thing that is both a drawback and an advantage of WM - it is flexible, and rewards anyone who takes the time to get to know the OS and the particular phone model.
If you really want "out of the box" experience with any tweaking, I'd go for a different OS.

Wait...your phone froze while you were talking to the CEO of this company, and you couldn't call him back for TWO DAYS???
Ever hear of using another phone? Or a land line?
And I'm not sure what your problem with voice messages was. If you left them messages and they did not receive them, it's their voicemail systems fault, not WinMo's.
If WinMo did not notify you of voice messages that you had waiting, then simply call your voicemail number regardless of whether your phone says you have any or not. You could even call it from a different phone. Not doing so, especially when you are expecting important calls, is simply negligent. Every phone I have ever owned, long before I started to use WinMo, has failed to notify me of voice messages on numerous occasions.
This is as basic as keeping a backup copy of whatever important paper or project you are working on. It should be done with ALL phones, even the infallible iPhone.
I bet I could make an iPhone fail

Totally agree with moogoo here. The voicemail issue isn't really a hardware issue as much as it is YOU not checking your voicemail or them having issues with there voicemail. Not calling the CEO back right away AFTER you reset your phone... I just couldnt imagine the phone freezing on me and not reseting it and calling the person back right away.
You havn't said whether you are running a stock rom or a custom rom on your phone. If it's stock and you are having these issues I would probably go to where you bought the phone and just have them give you a new one as I've never heard of people having that many issues with their phone. If its a custom rom, the only time I hear of people having the issues you are having is because after flashing their phone they didnt do a hard reset after the initial boot up to make sure everything installs properly. 9 times out of 10 if your phone freezes as much as it does you probably just need to do a hard reset.
Now, the comment about it locking up and what not... if it does it every few days, well guess what. It's a freaking computer! I don't know about you but I dont leave my PC or laptop running for days at a time and expect it to be running as fast as it should. I usually turn those off every night or when I'm not using them. Now we cant just go ahead and turn our phones off at night that doesnt make sense BUT you can at least do a soft reset every now and again and it should speed things up. I know myself I do this at least every 2 days. Again... if it's being as glitchy as it is odds are you just need a hard reset. Try running one of NRG's roms as they seem to be the best out there, at least from the ones I've tried.
So moral of your story.... you need to hard reset your phone once if not twice after you install a new rom..... you need to check your voicemail even when it doesnt show you have missed calls.... you need to call people back immediatly after your phone crashes... dont just put the phone down and hope that it starts working again. They have the reset button on their for a reason!

Hey guys, sorry for the late response.
Well this is what happen. The CEO called me to talk to me about the job but at this very time my phone was frozen and hiccuping without my knowledge. When it does this it just rejects all my calls, but for some reason I never got the missed call or anything. It didn't even show up on screen. My phone randomly hiccups and when it does this everything is ignored, I won't get a missed call, it's like my phone is off. I didn't even get a voice mail message. When I checked my voicemail because one of my friends left me one after I ignored his call it finally gave me a message and it said I had 2 missed voicemails. I thought it was strange that he left 2 voice mails even though I only had his only miss call.. and then I realized he didn't leave 2 voice mails. I heard the voice of the CEO, he said for me to try and call him back. I checked the receipt and it was 2 days late! I called back right away.
I left him a voice mail back, but he left on a business trip and had to select someone else... which happen to be my classmate
And yes, it hiccups all the time. A large part of it is due to the amount of text I receive but not all the time. Under my GFs name we have about 1000s of text saved up and it causes the phone to lag sometimes.
Other lags and hiccups happen randomly when I'm trying to do simple things.
I know you guys are probably angry because I'm talking smack about our phones but please, I really wasn't expecting these kinds of problems with my phones. I'm not some kind of iPhone user disguised to troll.
Some of you guys don't' get the problem, yes you guys are lucky. Maybe have different models. But some of us here do.
Don't be quick to judge me so harshly. I'm only a guy here trying to set a realistic complaint because Windows Mobile should release updates more often, we deserve it, and you guys know we deserve it. By not complaining and pretending these problems don't exist gives Windows a right to not want to optimize their OS.
Thanks Lennzy for PMing me possible solutions to fixing my phone and not trying to give me some kind of life advice where you don't even know what happen.
The way the market is going right now, I just don't want to go through this again... it's such a bad experience... maybe it's fate, maybe I wasn't meant for the job and some other better company will call me. But for the time being I need to fix this phone or get a basic phone to just receive and give calls.
You got two new pm's
It's still prudent to check your voicemail at least once a day regardless of phone notifications. One good failsafe, if you can manage it, is to set things up so you automatically receive emails informing you of new voicemail (this is setup for me through Exchange at work, but I'm sure there are other ways).
As previously mentioned, the problems you are having are far from normal. I'm running a cooked ROM with all kinds of incredible hacks and tweaks, so much so that I'd expect the thing to break more often, but it is just as stable and usable as ever.
Not trying to give you life lessons, just pointing out one that you surely already learned.
Slim, are you in the US? If so, at least a temporary solution might be to use Google voice...it'll take over your voicemail functions, and can notify you via e-mail whenever you get a VM, and it'll even send you a transcript and a downloadable audio file of the message

Try Linux - my home server's been up for 3 months without issue and my misses laptop's often on for weeks
Honestly ever since XP I've had no problem leaving my Windows box running for long periods of time.
Most often the only reason it needs to be reset is because of some update.
Linux is not infallible in this matter. While the core OS is extremely stable, very often the window manager, especially Gnome and KDE can be very buggy and prone to crashing.
Of course it is easy enough to drop out of Xwindows and restart it without restarting the entire OS.

[Q] XAndroid - Incoming calls not working?

I just installed the XAndroid on the TP2 storage card, and though most of the good stuff works, I am unable to receive incoming calls. How come? Any ideas? Outgoing calls works perfectly. Please help.

in order for your mic to work in calls you have to push vol up or vol down once in-call, i know its a pain in the ass but its what we got right now
that is commonly talked about in the main sticky thread
Known issue. Several fixes are listed. Some say messing with volume makes it work, others say flipping speakerphone on/off fixes it. Let us know.
Either way, the call voicemail in WinMo while booting Android trick always fixes this. We're working on something more permanent, but this only seems to affect GSM devices for whatever reason.

you may have to delete your data.img and start over
and did you format your sd card before putting android on it? i havent heard of this problem specifically but i know that a used sd card has caused problems
thanks guys. I will perform the formatting and then give it a shot. Let's see
any luck with reformating the card? i get the same problem. I can make calls, i get email, people can text me, but when people call me it goes straight to voicemail. i dont think this is the same problem others are talking about with the mic or speakers working during incoming calls. i cant find answers to our problem.
I had this problem two days ago. Deleting data.img worked for me. If you do that, just make sure to back up anything you don't want to lose before you do so.

there are different issues with it now as opposed to back then though generally each case has a different fix
I have the same issue. I can call, texting, and internet all work just fine. I do not receive calls. When someone calls me, it rings on their end and just goes to voicemail. My phone's, sleep indicator goes from green to orange, but no ring.
I have done a clean install, formatted sd, even did a clean install of windows mobile. It used to work fine with the older kernel, pre-10/30. Went back to them but still having the issue.
this is simple enough, our android port isnt 100% it wont be for a while, and calling wont be right for a while either, the easiest thing to do is to just avoid calls in android
when we can flash android to our phone through an nbh, that is when there will be no problems with calls
Try this:
I have had this receive calls bug myself. It is back and forth between kernel changes. I have had it when it seemed no one had this problem. Alls I can say is try this:
1. Reformat sd card using HP format tool, which can easily be found on google or searching this forum.
2. Use the rar from the website instead of the install cab. Extract it's contents to your sd card, then delete your data.img file. Use the kernel from 11/03 from the following site, http://glemsom.users.anapnea.net/android2/htc-msm-linux/
3. Now boot up XDAndroid for your 1st time. It will make a new data.img file for you. This 1st boot take about 5 minutes since it is making a new data.img file for you. Once it boots, call a friend and tell them to call you right back. You might even wanna try this in WinMo once 1st just to assure that Droid is getting everything it needs to set itself up.
Once you do this you should be golden. I have tried all kinds of stuff, but this is what worked for me. If it still doesn't fix the prob try the newest kernel from 11/11. I haven't tried it, but it may or may not work for you. Give it a shot. The whole process shouldn't take more than 20 min or so, assuming you don't have to copy a bunch of stuff from your sd card before you flash it.
Good luck, post if this fixes your problem.

Thanks. But All credits must got to Spocky. He is the developer of Galaxsim. I think he is on the site.
I'm on the AT&T version, so I guess I can test it for AT&T users. Report back soon..
EDIT:
Since the OP forgot to mention, it isn't free. $2.50 USD, keep that in mind.
The PRO version isn't located on the market for some reason, and it won't let me buy it though the app, quite strange.
If you download the version spooky published here in the forums the unlock will be free. Just buy him a beer if you can. I can confirm that it worked on my rogers glide with at&t ics rom installed.

I have the Code to unlock my phone but my phone has relocked itself on flashing so I said let me give this a try. Just a bit of info I am on Rogers and have a Rogers phone but like to unlock my phone in case I travel and will use another SIM on it. I tried Galaxysim from this posting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451 this is from the Developer of the APP as it is a legit version. I installed this program and noticed that there was a 3 second pause on placing calls. This scared me and in my opinion very unusable. I restored my files via the apps restore feature and all is back to normal. I must admit it is scary playing with this stuff. I wonder if a Nandroid backup would have restored this as well had it not came back?
why scared from a pause?
and yes nandroid will save the efs as well. btw there is an efs backup util that call EFSpro for the PC (using ADB) so you can backup and restore the EFS with a click easy to use and i did that before the unlock.

So you have the pause as well? Was scared because I though it was not working, as I pressed it and thought nothing happened. Thought my phone could no longer make calls. Changed to the home screen and looked at other stuff then the phone started to dial literally 3-4 seconds after I had pressed send and was no longer in the call screen. I find this is unusable like this. Please let me know if that it is way it works for you? If there is a 3 second pause on making calls, is there a pause on receiving calls?

I'm using Rooted 4.0.4 and it worked fine for me, no hiccups at all.
im not too sure about the 3 sec pause but mine has been working great. phone and data connection. everything seems fine with my phone.
Could it be because I am on Rogers and unlocking on Rogers?
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
i'm on rogers too and didn't seem to notice any 3 seconds lag.
yes its not insistently but i think it cos of the dialer apk itself.
i had a problem of it re-locking after updating to the latest version from the market, i suggest not doing it.
i uninstalled and installed the apk from the orginal thread.

Recover pictures after hard reset

Help please, I did a hard reset on my S6. I knew I would lose pictures and stuff but what I forgot was I didn't get them backed up first as my macbook and android don't communicate and my gateway doesn't work so no windows pc. I was locked out of my phone and only getting to try to enter my pin once an hour and after all day of doing this I was frustrated and did a hard reset, as soon as I started I could have kicked myself :crying: because my phone was the only place that I had pics, video and audio recordings ......of my brother, his voicemail before he passed away and pics before he passed away and of his funeral. I have never rooted. I tried kingoroot, kingroot and neither will root. Can someone help me get my files back please? Thank you.
First off, please accept my condolences on the death of your brother. I am so sorry for you loss.
