I'm not sure where I should post this (as its my first), if you need to move it to the correct place then please do.
I've been with Android less than a year, but I love it, and I cant imagine ever wanting to go back to anything else (I've even had an iPhone and its restrictions and ... just the way it is, made me want something bigger and better). I'm also very interested in modification and, because of many of the guides on here, have successfully rooted and loaded custom roms onto a HTC Desire, and now my Desire HD.
However, what I would ultimately like to do, its to unlock the phone, so I can use any sim card.
I've seen and tried a few methods but none of them seem to have worked so I'm asking if anyone can tell (and link) me to various guides or correct ways of doing it (not that the guides already out there are incorrect, there's obviously something that I am missing)
Currently, my phone gives me this information:
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF

Rooted with ClockworkMod v3.0.2.6 (via visionary+)
Running Android Revolution HD 5.1.3 with custom lock screen (Sense 3.0) and a few other personal changes (removal of a couple of apps etc)
Its a UK phone, on the network Three (3).
One of the main methods that didn't work was Easy Radio Tool 2.2, but again, maybe I was missing something.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Now uh, go easy on me, my first time posting here.
I may seem like a total idiot here, but the amount of conflicting information I've seen is quite confusing. I've searched and searched and the more I read the less I seemed to be sure of.
My question:
Can I do the unrevoked method of rooting ('theunlockr.com - how to root htc desire unrevoked method' 20.9.10) [cant post links] on my specific device?
My handset information is
Bravo PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT- 0.87.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.09.00.08
Android version: 2.2
Software number: 2.06.832.1
The 0.87 HBOOT seems rather rare on the forums, I don't know why. All I've read is that at one point the 0.87 version could not be rooted, but I don't know if that is still the case (this was information from April-July) and the unrevoked tutorial states that 'At this time, unrevoked3 works on all versions of the supported phones', which my phone would come under the CDMA Desire (BravoC) I'm pretty sure. Just would like some quick confirmation from you lot before I go and do something stupid.
Thanks!
it was mentioned that hboot version doesnt matter when using new unrevoked
If you've got S-OFF then you don't need to root do you? It should already be done...CDMA phones when rooted with unrEVOked get S-OFF
Sounds like you're already rooted, check to see if you've got Superuser Permissions in your program list
Nope, no superuser permissions, and the phones unused.
The fact that the phone supports WCDMA as well as GSM makes it the CDMA 'Bravo' model right?
Well if what you have written is indeed what it says in hboot, then you are s-off and it should be easy to flash or install super user to the phone
My phone supports WCDMA and GSM - it's not the same as CDMA...
Do you use a SIM card in your phone? If so, it's a GSM phone
Just double checked it, it definately says S-OFF, everything in the first post was 100% correct.
Strange, the phone is actually a Hong Kong model that I ordered, saving me quite a bit of money being in Australia. Seems a bit iffy that it was unlocked from the start, actually makes me think it's a used model, even though everything else looks and works flawlessly. Probably shouldn't complain, even though they've caused me a bit of confusion.
So these rooted ROMs that people are developing all contain the superuser permissions application, I can't seem to find that individual application for download though. Hmmm.
edit: found the application, installing.
Ah, so I have the GSM model.
When did you get the phone? The S-OFF 'hack' has only just come out so unless you're on an engineering Desire (which is highly unlikely) then someone cracked it before selling the phone...
If I were you, I'd follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
and go back to a stock WWE ROM and then root it using unrEVOked 3.14 and then you can flash whatever ROM you want...easier than faffing about with S-OFF and the like (you don't really need it unless you wanna change the initial splash screen or you're a developer)
I got the phone about a week ago.
Cheers for the advice.

Click to collapse
Well the hboot version he is mentioning is not the same as the one patched by ieftm, so he might just have recieved a developer device? Sounds strange though.
And as eddyos is saying, you could just flash a ruu and go the traditional route, if you cant figure it out using the s-off hboot. It's pretty cool though.
edit: if it is an actual s-off device, wouldn't the flag for s-off be set and flashing a ruu would not help it? Just like unrevoked forever on evo?
Hey, i have a UK htc desire branded to the Orange network and i've spent all week reading and reading about how to root and unbrand it. I feel i've learnt most of the ins and outs of it and want to finally attempt it, but i was wondering if just to put my mind at rest someone could give me a thumbs up to what i think needs to be done?
First off my phone details as of now..

The UK network Orange doesn't have a provider RUU, i'm not bothered about being in warranty as i got this phone second hand but if for some reason i wanted to unroot etc can someone point me to a similar unbranded stock one that has the same versions of things as above? That seems to be the main thing worrying me at the moment.
So to check i have everything understood..
1.I've installed HTC Sync and uninstalled just the Sync part leaving the drivers, downloaded Unrevoked which i intend to run to root the phone.
2.I've made a bootable USB drive with Alpharev on ready to then sort out S-OFF
3.Will partition my sd card with Gparted, ready to then make a backup of the stock ROM on the phone right now
4.Then install my custom ROM which for my first try i've chosen LeeDroid. However, if i wanted to just put a plain unbranded stock ROM on which would i be looking for?
I'm hoping i've not taken all the information in over the week and come to the wrong conclusion, so just an 'all clear' from someone would be great, thanks
Yeo that's what I did unrevoked phone, s-off then copyed rom I like to memory card and flashed via recovery. And yes lee tom should be good they always are, not using it at mo I'm on miui

Being a total n00b to Android, I have been doing battle with two since Monday last week. with the HTC, I decided to go with unrevoked and to my consternation found that I couldnt get s-off, and so I was unable to debrand or uninstall the apps I had on board. I had already installed Rom Explorer (free) and wondered if I might be able to use that. I crossed my fingers, and did a backup and wipe and clean cache, along with an install of CyanogenMod 7. I must say I am very impressed with the work gone into these mods. Everything you need and nothing you don't. The install went swimmingly and my fingers are now uncrossed. No more Telstra crud.
Hey guys,
I'm looking at upgrading from the desire to a level up. Possibly the Incredible S or maybe the samsung optimus black.
Just wondering if you think the Incredible is a good way to go because I rooted my Desire with the greatest of ease, however, the other two I've been looking at seem to be more of a challenge. Don't get me wrong, I like a challenge But I want to be able to just flat out root *snicker* and then just flash different ROMs to see which I like the best.
Also, it's quite surprising that I had such an easy time rooting the desire. Basically because what I've read in the forums about needing radio, HBOOT's etc. Just to give you an idea, I only just rooted few weeks ago and these are the stats on a year old phone:-
Telstra branded (Only evidence of that left is a logo before bootanimation, which I would absolutley love to get rid of if anyone can help)
BRAVO PVT1 S-ON
HBOOT 0.93
RADIO 5.17.05.23 (flashed this straight after I rooted)
running Cyanogenmod 7.0.3(recently flashed nightly build#88)
Basically, I used Unrevoked to root (also had to get a driver to use that bleh!)
With ROMs that people are discussing that they need PVT3 or 4 I have been able to use on this one(flashed multiple ROMs and found I like Cyanogen the best)
Even if you have suggestions other than the ones I'm looking at let me know. Main interest in these two is because of the cameras.
Oh... and if you wanna flame, be my guest cause I've probabkly made it obvious that I'm a noob at this point lol
Any opinions are appreciated to say the least
So I tried a number of different times with different ROMS, and the only successful one was upgrading to CyanogenMod 7.0.3 just to see if flashing works at all on this phone. In the past, I had followed the wiki's instructions to root and then downgrade my phone. So now I have the following on my HTC Vision/Desire Z:
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF

So, following the Droidzone website has been difficult because I cannot seem to find any of the specific versions of custom recovery mods they recommend. I suppose this is an issue. I have never successfully flashed Amon-Ra; I am not sure what the right version to use would be and the recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.0.img just hangs after successfully flashing with the fastboot method (I am surprised to see it works at all since it appears old Amon-Ra ROMs had their own special flash_image utility, but I could be mistaken). So, downgrading several different CWM roms (3.0.2.4->3.0.0.5->2.5.1.3) because the website says 3.0.0.0+ is buggy, I got the same problem every time as this guy, where I fail to write /tmp/boot.img to boot. This happened after numerous times taking a clean phone and resetting all /data and /cache manually and through the CWM wizard prompts, so I assume I am doing something very wrong if it does not work.
Now, it appears that I *do* need the Amon-Ra recovery to make this happen, if this thread is correct. So, my questions:
Am I missing something trivial?
Is the Amon-Ra recovery *required*?
If so, what is the best version for my Desire Z/Vision given the current customizations?
If not the Amon-Ra issue described (since the plain Desire could be a different issue, what is the best course of action?
Also I will be traveling after a few hours so I might not get back to you guys in a while, but thanks so much in advance for taking the time. I am sure I did not RTFM as I should, but I have spent days on and off outside of work attempting to figure this out. It is driving me fscking nuts!
Um, bump? Does anyone have any experience with the ROM at all? The Droidzone dev did not mention a specific thread on his website for support. All of them are in the Desire Development forum, and stickies explicitly this type of install question did not belong in those types of threads.
Turns out I am a moron: this ROM is meant specifically for the Desire, not any other phone (it is a modded ROM specifically of an official Desire ROM). If it were not for failsafes, I would have bricked my phone. Lesson learned, do not be a moron like me.
Let me explain:
I use i9300, and I'm completely unfamiliar with HTC environment and treating. My girlfriend's Desire Z froze recently. I rebooted it, and it didnt go through bootloader.
It did it once, but it was the only time. Then i turned it off to put in the simcard. It didnt come back. Still stuck on the HTC logo. Before, it was going to the HTC quietly brilliant, but now it's just freezing on HTC.
Everything is stock. Phone has never been rooted. I decided, to go through the hboot (correct me if im wrong) and try to do something there.
When I hit factory reset, phone freezes on that menu. I decided to go around that by rooting it, or reinstalling software from that recovery menu, or through usb, or memory card. Well, anything that might make it work.
I tried to find a proper help for that. Unfortunately, I found some threat here, but it had a link on the top saying "go to actual method", it took me to another threat, which had a link to another "actual method". There, i was given three different techniques vision, one for temp, one for perm root, s-off, SDK, ADB and all this freakin stuff. I DONT GET IT!
Please, provide me with step by step instruction (links, whatever) so I can fix this bloody phone. I dont know what is the difference between temporary and permanent root, what is s-off, and what to download from where to make it freaking work.
I'm struggling with this 3rd day now, trying to understand what is all of this instructions. I still cant tell if it's a software, or hardware problem, because i cant diagnose it! I cant spend another day on educating myself about htc rooting.
Please, provide me with some tips on how to fix it, or instructions to perform the system factory reset from hboot menu.
Let me give you the details i get in that menu:

It looks bad, like a fried emmc. Not being rooted limits your chances of fixing as well as your chances of even confirming the failure
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35236029
read through this a bit and see if it helps any, your best chance is to attempt an ruu but if it is a bad chip then there is noting you can do other then warranty exchange or get a new phone
