AOSP vs Sense mms video compression - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, it seems to be the case that most Sense ROMs now allow 1 to 2 minutes of mms video for a full 1MB file, whereas AOSP seems only to allow 30sec of video for that same 1MB file size. Clearly there is some difference in the compression going on if one ROM can squeeze two to four times as much video data into the same file size. So, my question is this... Has anyone noticed a huge difference in quality on the receiving end for people getting these mms videos? In other words, will the mms from a 30-sec clip (AOSP) show up better than one that has been compressed further by a Sense ROM? I mean, I like being able to send a full 2-minute video, but I need people on the other end to actually make out what is in the video.

[Q] How to Send Uncompressed Video via MMS

I try to send video clips that I make which are about 400 to 500kb via
text mms message and the phone compresses it to about 50 to 70kb which on the
other side look like crap, even I sent some to myself just to see the sent videos
are degraded in quality because of the compression.
How to send uncompressed video is my question.
Hendcent is doing it same thing compressing it and chomp can't even attach
400kb video telling me is too big. Please anyone help on this issue.

[Q] Sending Video

Can anybody send video through MMS? Anytime I try to send a video I get an error saying file limit reached even on an extremely short video. Any suggestions or is there a fix for this? I came from the evo and had the same problem so is it just an android issue or something else? Please help. I would like to send videos if possible. Thanks.
Now that you mention it I have been able to send video since my HTC Hero! My guess is the vids we are making are higher quality, therefor to large to send. A 1080 video is quite large, even a 720.
edit....when I opened camera and switched to video it asked me what style of video. I chose for MMS and shot a short vid, it sent just fine with Handcent app.
Stock roms usually have a 1 mb limit ...on 3d the devs were fixing this up to 5 mb . When recording in hd 1 mb is like 2 seconds

SGSIII Camera Question

Once the devs get their hands on the new touchwiz ice cream rom will we be able to use one of those roms to record video and take pics and the same time on our SGSII (touch4g) or will it be some hardware limitations? Thanks

How they have it implemented on the SGSIII is a good question. But to pull a still from video unencoded and save it as an image while shooting is all a software matter, assuming the following. Having the spare room in the buffer to NOT dump the frame after its been encoded to the video, the processing power to be able to encode the image to a jpeg (etc) while encoding the video and the spare speed on the flash storage to write that file while flushing the encoded video from buffer to flash, would be the areas of concern.
I believe the video encoder is in hardware so as long as we can duplicate or hold a particular frame in buffer to save it as an encoded image I dont see the inability to do it somehow. I mean maybe not Samsung's application but if there was a non stock application to add the feature to.
Light hits the sensor and generates a signal and that signal is read line by line and fed through a analog to digital signal converter. Each frame is stored in a buffer waiting to be encoded and then written to a file. That feature just grabs one of those frames and also saves it to an image. There is a minor amount of headroom needed to do the operation but its not huge.

Grainy Video

So recently I've noticed that when my wife and I exchange video messages via stock, chomp, handsent, or gosms messengers, no matter what the mms configuration is. They alway show up grainy and in one occasion with handsent as a GIF.
So I'v noticed that when I choose to shoot video from within gosms the video settings in the video app are set to mms mode making the video resolution the lowest it can possibly be, so no matter what I set gosms to the initial video is still very low res.
My question is.
Is there a mod or a way to change this so that the video can be taken at a higher resolution.
assuming there are no problems with the phones and you are just annoyed at the lower quality of videos sent between phones, then you are probably stuck. Video takes up a lot of memory and bandwidth. You are better off uploading a better quality video to youtube and then sending her the private link to view it on her phone. There are other cloud options/websites as well for videos
It will still hog the data though.
Perhaps somebody else can chime in with a better solution

No theres nothing wrong with the phone. Its annoying because the video is unwatchable, you can't even make out faces.
the worst part is my iphone 4 did a better job. so far though thats the only thing the iphone was better at.
Im not worried about the bandwidth, I'm on the rogers 6gb promotional plan.
currently the best way i can come up with to share a video is with dropbox. specially considering they just rewarded me with an extra 50gb of storage for free.
heres a pick of the cam app when im taking a video for mms. Im not looking for 720p or anything but a step up from this would make a world of difference.
thats 176x144

It would be nice if I could just edit a file somewhere that would set the mms video size to at least double what it is now.

[Q] Snapchat Video Recording Issues on ALL Non-Touchwiz ROMS

Hi Everybody,
I really like the AOSP Based ROMS better than Touchwiz. But this one issue makes me keep getting back to Touchwiz ROMS.
I use Snapchat video recording regularly, but I can't record 10 second long videos unless I use a Touchwiz ROM.
The problem is, Snapchat has a file size limit of 2,5 MB, and because we don't have the stock video drivers i guess, CyanogenMod, Omni, SlimROM (or any other AOSP based rom for that matter) has a file size bigger than 2,5 MB on Snapchat. As a result, you can only record 2 or 3 seconds of video and you therefore you can't properly record snapchat videos.
Is there any way to lower the video resolution (or size) on Snapchat.
Maybe there's some files I can tweak, some parameters I can change and the Camera Recording output has a lower resolution?
Can anyone help me? I really like the Vanilla Lollipop experience on Note II and I want to use it.
