[Q] Sending Video - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Can anybody send video through MMS? Anytime I try to send a video I get an error saying file limit reached even on an extremely short video. Any suggestions or is there a fix for this? I came from the evo and had the same problem so is it just an android issue or something else? Please help. I would like to send videos if possible. Thanks.

Now that you mention it I have been able to send video since my HTC Hero! My guess is the vids we are making are higher quality, therefor to large to send. A 1080 video is quite large, even a 720.
edit....when I opened camera and switched to video it asked me what style of video. I chose for MMS and shot a short vid, it sent just fine with Handcent app.

Stock roms usually have a 1 mb limit ...on 3d the devs were fixing this up to 5 mb . When recording in hd 1 mb is like 2 seconds

HTC Desire Video Quality and Compression

Hey there,
In my experience, the Desire compresses the hell out of all recorded video, which makes it blurry. My girlfriend ran a marathon a couple of weeks ago, I recorded parts of it but people's faces looked like they had been blurred out digitally, or as taken from a Japanese 00's horror-flick.
I have the highest quality setting activated, as well as the MPEG4 encoding type selected. Still the Desire saves videos in the outdated .3GP-format that I had on my Sony Ericsson's six years ago, instead of as .MP4.
The file size of one minute of recorded video is about half the size of the same recording on my Nokia N97, and unfortunately, the quality is about half as well.
Is it just me, or does the Desire compress video way too hard? And why aren't they saved as .MP4 when the MPEG4 setting is on? Is there a tweak to decrease the compression ratio?
Thanks!

Neither .3GP or .MP4 are video formats - they are container formats (see here).
If you select MPEG4, it will be saving as MPEG4 within the 3GP container.
As to the actual recorded quality, I can't really comment as on the few occasions I've used it to record video, it looks ok to me.

Dave

Intriguing, I did not know that Thanks. Still bummed about the video quality, though. There ought to be a setting for those who prioritize quality and not small files.

We're supposed to be getting an update to support recording at 720p (as well as DivX). HTC announced this before the Desire had shipped, but has been curiously silent on the matter since then.
I did tweet @HTC about the lack of a DivX update, but @HTC only wants to respond to trivial nonsense it seems.

Dave
Yeah I noticed they are quiet on that at the moment.
I wonder if they are planning it with the 2.2 update maybe?
hmm, I got a feeling they have trashed the 720p video quality update.
it has been silence about it for a long time:\
Froyo 2.2 will have the 720 option it was mentioned in the detailed Google IO paper. Along with better gmail. End calls with the power buttons. And app updates upposed to OS revisions.
The max option records at 2Mbps. You can get decent quality from that, most YouTube vids are far far lower. The framerate however differs depending on the ambient light but anything plus 15ish looks fine.

Is there even a "max" option for the video camera? If so, where is it located? I can only find a quality setting for the still camera. A 40 second video clip recorded with my HTC Desire is approx. 10MB. That's very far from 2 MB per second?

It's 2 Mbit /s (Mega bit), not MB (Mega Byte).
2mbps is not 2MB per second
its more like 256KB per second in the terms you're using

good luck
i use format factory free to download and only program which rips bluray rips .mkv to make it work for htc desire. You can choose from so many profile and test the settings which suits best to your mobile i believe res setting for htc desire are 400 by 800. i can send you setting i use. I ripped avatar blueray rip 8gb to 745mb with awesome quality. Give it a go you wont be disapointed and it supports subs. it basically supports all formats.
i just used MEGUI and it's iphone preset but left the res as 800xwhatever. AAC audio.
worked fine.
Format Factory sounds great with a whole bunch of the 23 reviews saying it has a trojan in the installer and also automatically installs the Ask Toolbar!
i myself megui for ripping but format factory is way easy to use. Megui is bit complicated program i do use it for ripping you can crop colour correction etc but megui takes longer to rip. i have found format factory to rip 720p rips perfect for my nokia n97 mini and desire.

Could U please show me a link, or a press release or whatever from HTC regarding this topic? An official one, not just a blogger heard something...

I don't have one, and I can't be bothered to look for one either, but it was widely reported a few months ago.

Dave
You can use a free program called Mediainfo, take a few clips with diffrent settings and see the codec and bitrate.

I believe it was back when the Desire was the Bravo - there was alot of talk of 720p recording and the fact the hardware supports it

[Q] How to Send Uncompressed Video via MMS

I try to send video clips that I make which are about 400 to 500kb via
text mms message and the phone compresses it to about 50 to 70kb which on the
other side look like crap, even I sent some to myself just to see the sent videos
are degraded in quality because of the compression.
How to send uncompressed video is my question.
Hendcent is doing it same thing compressing it and chomp can't even attach
400kb video telling me is too big. Please anyone help on this issue.

Possible to reduce video capture to 320p?

Files are way to big at 480p to share more than a couple of seconds of video via appd such as Whatsapp etc, does anyone know how to get the lower rez added to the camera or aware of an app that will allow native shooting at 320p?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
The question should be "When will Whatsapp support more than 320p?" I doubt you'll see a while lot of support for anything less than 480p going forward.
Hi Ian, issues is with files that are about 15 seconds end up being more than 10 mb at 480p. Wish the 320p was included

Compress recorded videos to send as a message?

On my old iphone, HD videos recorded with the phone would be automatically compressed to be sent via text message.
On my Note 2 I can't seem to send ANY videos with the messaging app. I always get a size warning when attaching a video.
Does anyone know of a way to compress videos to send over mms? I do not want to record the videos in a lower quality resolution as this ruins the video for myself.
Does nobody send videos over mms?!
Maybe handcent or gosms would do this.

Try Vidcon from the play store. It's sort of like Handbrake for android, but much easier to use. Vidcon not only allows you to compress a previously recorded Hd vid but you can also change the format, among other things.
I also didn't want to record low quality vids on the chance that I might at some future point want to send it as mms. It is not free but the demo allows full functionally for 4 to 5 days. So you can see if it meets your needs. Hope this helps, and welcome to the android club.. ..

I think for now I will upload my videos to YouTube and send links to friends and family. Honestly it is a bummer to see that auto compression of mms videos isn't on my Note II.

Grainy Video

So recently I've noticed that when my wife and I exchange video messages via stock, chomp, handsent, or gosms messengers, no matter what the mms configuration is. They alway show up grainy and in one occasion with handsent as a GIF.
So I'v noticed that when I choose to shoot video from within gosms the video settings in the video app are set to mms mode making the video resolution the lowest it can possibly be, so no matter what I set gosms to the initial video is still very low res.
My question is.
Is there a mod or a way to change this so that the video can be taken at a higher resolution.
assuming there are no problems with the phones and you are just annoyed at the lower quality of videos sent between phones, then you are probably stuck. Video takes up a lot of memory and bandwidth. You are better off uploading a better quality video to youtube and then sending her the private link to view it on her phone. There are other cloud options/websites as well for videos
It will still hog the data though.
Perhaps somebody else can chime in with a better solution

No theres nothing wrong with the phone. Its annoying because the video is unwatchable, you can't even make out faces.
the worst part is my iphone 4 did a better job. so far though thats the only thing the iphone was better at.
Im not worried about the bandwidth, I'm on the rogers 6gb promotional plan.
currently the best way i can come up with to share a video is with dropbox. specially considering they just rewarded me with an extra 50gb of storage for free.
heres a pick of the cam app when im taking a video for mms. Im not looking for 720p or anything but a step up from this would make a world of difference.
thats 176x144

It would be nice if I could just edit a file somewhere that would set the mms video size to at least double what it is now.
