Have never been able to pin this down to anything specific. This happens across multiple roms (aosp and sense) while using multiple kernels (I'm using the latest godmode for aosp and nets latest for sense). My phone will sometimes reboot / hot restart when I install something from the market or restore something from Titanium backup. I have a patriot 16gb class 10 sd card with a2sd enabled. Any ideas?
I had this problem with my EVO, turned out to be a CPU failure. Take it to a Sprint store and have them test it. They replaced my phone because of this.

Hmmm. Interesting. It is a refurb I got from my TEP insurance. Should I unroot it prior to bringing it in?
Also, my phone will sometimes lose apps after a nandroid restore. The app is there prior to the nandroid backup and then after I restore it its gone.

yes, this way they can't blame it on a software issue.

You probably aren't adding .android_secure to your nandroid backups.

You probably need to backup android.secure. Games like Angry Birds will be restored if android.secure is backed up.

So I have to return my phone cause one of my led flashes isnt working right so I'm going to run the ruu and return to stock for the return. my question is when I get my new one, after I root again can I restore my nandorid backup on the new phone without issues or is it not gonna work cause of different esn numbers etc?
Bleh, no one knows hehe?
I sure don't know, bunp!

Absolutely not. You will permanently overwrite your wimax keys, and risk messing many other things up. You cannot restore backups from different phones.
Titanium Backup, however, will work just fine for your apps. Just dont restore any system data, just apps only.

he could restore a nandroid backup as long as he doesn't backup wimax withvit. Then the wimax won't be touched, as long as he's using amon ra he can choose not to back up wimax and cache and recovery, just the other options boot, system, sdext, android secure and it shouldn't do any harm whatsoever. Only if wimax is backed up will it Bork the keys. I made just a back up of my wimax saved it to my pc and never back up wimax when I nandroid. Saves some space and keeps my wimax safe from being lost in case of a catastrophic SD failure, like the night I was bored in the hospital after a car accident, was all doped up on an iv of dilaudid and wiped my sdcard while I was flashing roms DOH! I felt like a retard when I went to flash from SD and it was blank lol. Luckily I had my tablet with my SD backup with me or I woulda been really bored with a dead phone.
I have tried everything I know to do so I'm here asking for help....
I run Calks ROM and recently tried updating without wiping (normally never do). After a couple days of a buggy phone, I decided to wipe data, format, format, format, wipe data, etc and flashed it again. Start using it and it starts acting up again. Did my wipe/format deal and flashed stock...and left it stock. Within the first day it locked up and reset itself multiple times.
I don't know what to do...is there anyway to start any "cleaner" than formatting everything multiple times? I would really like a working phone again...
Are you restoring your information with titanium backup? If you are that's your problem.

+1. You can restore apps only, but don't restore apps + data.
Is this the only rom that's causing it?
I never, ever, ever use any "backup" anything. All apps get reloaded one by one and settings get modified one by one...
This is happening with every rom I try. I format EVERYTHING (except SD card, which is my next attempt at fixing...). This is why it's so frustrating. I can't blame anything. I try running the ROMs stock (no not-included apps) and the phone is still running like crap.
Tried deleting the ".android_secure" folder from the sd card?
If it's happening on every rom, and you completely wipe every thing correctly, the only thing they have in common is the sd card contents. Right?
My Evo made me Swype this from the XDA App.

Android secure is supposed to be deleted during the fActory reset. I will try getting the SD formatted tonight and start FRESH, FRESH....
perhaps it's the kernel?

Mines never been deleted from stock factory reset or reset with amon.
It started to cause problems with app downloads from me switching roms and reinstalling all my apps and moving them.
Just remember, if you have apps on your sd card (Not on a separate partition) move them to the phone before deleting it if you want to keep them.
Any luck fixing it yet?
What bout nand restore? Did you ever make a nand backup? It has always fixed any issues I've ever had.
I've been traveling for work and haven't had a chance to sit down and mess with it since the night I initially posted. Hopefully it is as simple as androidsecure not getting deleted...thanks for the heads up.
I just did a FULL FULL FULL wipe of the phone. "Factory reset," "format; SD, SD ext, system, boot, data, etc"....
I then flashed zip, rebooted and let it sit for 10 min before turning it on...upon unlocking, it locked up.
THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS!!! Is it possible the phone is just effed???

No good either...the last "good" backup comes up with "checksum error."
I'm not big on nand backups, since I usually do full wipes and restart from scratch. I don't really care if I can restore an old setup.
If you can't find a software reason for its acting up, it's a hardware problem. Full wipes take care of pretty much any software problem.
I would suggest unrooting and taking it by a Sprint store. If none of the suggestions you've tried so far have done any good, that's about your only option.

That's not an option either...as I bought it outright off ebay.
Guess I'll just go to the Epic...
I want to go to eb13 but i want all my junk... im on dk28 right now. can i use cwm and backup all my stuff and then update to eb13 then restore data? it worked when i did a reset but this is a new firmware so...?
Restoring data across different firmware's is risky. However, EB13 doesn't look too much different than DK28 so you pay your money and take your chances...
what could go wrong? brick of some sort? software problems?
haha 69th post
anyone got insight? what would happen?
i guess i could just try it and if things get effed up i can always go back to my backup in cwm right?

yea pretty much. Do it. be my guinea pig and let me know how it works out for you
Worst case scenario you spend a bunch of time getting back to exactly where you are now.
Get Titanium Backup.
Backup all your apps and data.
Flash, root, then reinstall TB.
Restore.
I prefer this to CWM, but it's good to have both...

I'm in the same boat with apps and stuff
i got some kind of hacked titanium backup but i did it once and it didnt restore everything. like some apps were missing and crap.
You may get glitches and force closes. You won't brick your phone. I've seen some weird issues traced down to restoring /data across different frameworks and builds, but I carried my /data from di18->dj29->dk05->dk17->dk28 without a major problem. I haven't tried it with eb13, but I'm sure it will still be hit or miss for people. If all else fails, just start over without restoring /data. It can be a pain, but it only takes a day or two to set everything up again.
I tried to back up and update to EB13 this morning, and after I updated and attempted to restore, I was without my phone for the day. I needed to go back to DK28 to restore all of my junk. I'll probably just use Titanium this time around, so no, don't try to back up, then upgrade to EB13, and then restore your backup, it doesn't work.
Hello everyone. I'm having some issues with my Desire. I've flashed a variety of different roms but still having the issue. My device keeps freezing. It happened almost 10 times today,10 times yesterday etc etc. For the last 4 days my phone has gotten crazy. Anyone have any idea why it might be happening? It doesn't happen till I install my essential apps such as vignette, whatsapp and meebo.
You should flash an RUU and see if it's still happening then. If it is, just send it in for repair.

Hmmmmm I'm agreeing with Meaple, sounds like a warranty repair scenario.
Out of interest, what rom is it you currently have?

Currently Baadnewz Sense 2.1-3.0 GB ROM but I used to use Rcmix S,both cause the same problem, even Gingervillain 1.6
Update
I flashed original RUU and problem seems to be solved, though I haven't removed ext3 partition therefore sd card is not working. Can it be related to my sd card? crashing etc,it's class 4 kingston.
I'm looking for a backup solution that will allow me to backup all my data on my phone and restore it all. Saved game data and all. I have tried My Backup Pro but it was horrible. It asked me for every app to install and then did not restore everything. It also did not restore the saved games and progress on the games. One perticular game was paridise island. I have lost everything on that game and I invested money in it. I need an app that will allow me to back up everything including game data and restore my phone to the point it was when the backup was performed. I understand if it wont work across platforms but for the same phone I should have no issues. Also I do not want to root my phone. At least not yet. Any suggestions.

Thanks. I will not be rotting my phone till Oct 25th. Thats when the warranty runs out. I have had some issues with my previous phone and if I had rooted it like the others I would have been screwed.

Your choice of course. But note that the Galaxy Nexus is a bit different from other phones because of the fact the bootloader can be unlocked at will. Even if rooting would mess something up (chances are small), you can restore stock images and relock the bootloader as if nothing has happened.
Wow

If I already did not work in IT I would not touch this with a 20 foot pole. I think rooting will be the simplist answer. Google has got to get it together with this backup stuff.

Rooting JB cannot be done without unlocking the bootloader, which will wipe your phone including the /sdcard partition in the process. The adb backup method as described in the guide works. On what exactly do you base your statement you 'would not touch this with a 20 foot pole'?

Just the way it looks. Going off being a regular user this would scare them. I still may try it though.
