OK, my wife just got her EVO and she NEVER uses her 4G. She doesn't understand too much on the phone, and really doesn't care to. And she NEVER remembers to plug it in and charge it, so the 4G is always turned off.
I, on the other hand, use the hell out of 4G, or at least I did before I lost my RSA keys.
So, can I use her RSA keys, since she'll never use them anyhow? Everyone has now learned how to back up the WiMax, or the RSA keys, but how do you reinstall them, and if I reinstall her keys, will they work on my phone? The other option is to have Sprint change the numbers on the two phones, swapping hers for mine and vice versa. Probably the easiest way to go really, but if the RSA keys from her phone will work, we would be able to do this with a minimum of fuss, and we could avoid her asking me why the hell we have to switch phones.
why not just switch phones via sprint?

This is the best and probably the safest option.

It is the only option. You lost your keys they are gone for good and the keys are phone specific.
Edit: If you have an old nandroid from AmonRa backup then you may be able to get your RSA's back in line. Don't know for sure because I am not willing to break it to find out. But AmonRA made that for the backup just for that reason. Everytime you nandroid it is the exact same info in the wimax.img file.
I believe it possible. I remember reading a post where somebody restored somebody else's rsa keys but could only use 4g one at a time cause it logs into Sprint It was a while back when ppl first started losing there keys.

Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4.95 or My Rom!
Okay guys, thanks for the input. Looks like I'll just switch phones with my wife. She should be pleased...I have mine set up pretty nicely. First thing I'm going to do to hers is BACK UP EVERYTHING, AND NOT WITH CLOCKWORK!
Thanks for the input everyone. Though, it almost seems pointless to back up the RSA keys since nobody seems to know how to reinstate them once lost! I guess it is still better to have them than not to have them. Thanks again everyone.
yeah do the RSA backup prior to rooting and do the certificate backup too.
Clockwork now backs up the wimax and rsa keys, but stay with aman ra if it works for you.
i Have an internal Intel wimax card and planing to get clear spot 4g to run on sprint line. i was wondering if i clone the mac address of my htc evo to another wimax device and keep my 4g off on the the evo then the other device should work or is it more to do to make it work. please and thanks
You would also need the RSA keys
but what to do with the rsa keys or apply it to the other wimax device
You can't transfer the wimax/rsa keys from one device to another.

i heard different? can someone chime in?
The keys are encrypted and tied to the serial number of your Evo on Sprint's side of things.

This. Unless you can find a way to have the evo report a different sn to the tower, cloning the key would not work

To clarify both the key and the SN are tied to each other. You would have to regenerate the RSA key (which is encrypted) for a new SN. Have fun trying since only RSA is the Master Key holder. Break their encrypted key you can rest assured that you'll be getting a visit from some fine people from some three lettered agency.
Anyone ever have pop up a little box that says something like "You have incompatible UID's in your cache data and you need to format." Underneath was a little button that said "I'm feeling lucky."
In case your wondering I was in the middle of a scewed up beta testing scenario. Being the somewhat cautious soul I instead pulled the battery and odin'd.

I had this happen one time to me as well. I was trying to flash a theme on bonsai rom.

I got this when I flashed the eb13 modem using Odin and not putting the pit in there but a simple restore nandroid back up fixed it..

I was just looking through calkulins wimax and radio updates and he has all the PRI, NV, And Hboot drivers up also. What are those three and what functions do they serve? I tried searching on the web but couldnt find much about them...
Let me plagiarize:

Thanks. So that forum was kinda arguing what it was but u think I got the gyst of it. PRI and NV control your data snd connection and stuff correct? And any idea on the HBoot?

hboot is a VERY deep hardware-linked bios system. even more so than recovery. it controls the partitions on the device, and can help do flash memory overwrites. it's the white screen with skateboarding droids you get to by holding vol down+power while the phone's off.
NV aka non volatile memory (area/space) where Wimax, PRI etc updates are stored. It also controls data rates and bandwidth.
PRI aka Primary Rate Interface is a telco standard for how voice and data is handled between the user and telco switch.
PRL aka preferred roaming list a database that assists the mobile in the acquisition and selection of a serving CDMA network.
Oh sweet! Thanks guys! I just felt the need to know before I start flashing things on my phoneike crazy Haha. But that makes a lot of sense.
Oh and I almost forgot. Does a custom recovery replace the hboot? Or does it just like cover it up? Or do they have nothing to do with each other.

No, a custom recovery will not mess with HBoot.

Does your town have WiMAX service?
yes i have wimax but when i turn on my 4G its not turning on. and unable to start 4G..
Mine started sticking then would come on, and I would do a hotstart or reboot and it works

i try to reboot but its not work..
Responses with more than 5 words would help us here. Are you rooted? What rom are you on? What kernel? Are your radios updated? Did you check your wimax keys? Are you outside? Are you sure the area you are in has 4g wimax?

Give us more background information...
What ROM are you running? Stock or a custom? (WiMax doesn't work in ICS builds -- YET.)
What ZIP code are you in? (WiMax may not be available there.)

This my first time on the site. I'm not sure if I hit a wrong button or was forced here. I was interested in the rest of the thread about the sprint HTC Evo 4g that are being flashed to cricket service. I've experienced a lag in the overall performance and the data transfer speed feels like its running at 2g
