[Q] Cpu Temp - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the max CPU temp on the samsung epic so I don't fry my processer??
I am overclocked to 1.2 Ghz
Syndicate rom frozen 1.1.0
Twilght kernal

I dont think i would worry to much about the max temp. I am pretty sure the device will reboot its self or shut down due to over heating. As the processor gets warmer the chance of it malfunctioning goes up. Eventually it will shut its self down to preserve its life. I think its an early form of SkyNet.

You want to keep your phone cool to protect your processor.

Once you get above 105 degrees fahrenheit I would start to get worried. If you go above 110 degrees fahrenheit your phone will shut off. The phone actually starts to run slower above 105 degrees. If the phone shuts it self off there is a high chance of your phone bricking.

While that is a good rule to follow, these processors can handle 45°C easy. Just the other night I was running 119°f and it handled it no sweat, well my phone wasn't sweating, but I was.
I think I was close to auto shutdown, somewhere around 120°f.

You're only overclocking at 1.2 Ghz.. I see people at 1.4 Ghz and be okay.

That's nothing. I'm running at 1.4 ghz and the phone gets super hot. Charginh halt warning comes up too. I care less about my cpu getting cooked. I preffer light speed to saving cpu.

Thanks for the quick replys guys I feel alot more confident in overclocking to 1.3 now!!!

Does any one know where we can read the cpu temp from. As in the place in the kernel or system that has the value.

Yes but where is setcpu pulling the temp data from?

Lol. Done worry... These things last! Im running at 1.44 ghz flawless. Mines gets real hot, as hot as the ol tp2. So hot I get the no charge warning alot.lol. I put a lazer temp tool on it and it read 124 f on the left side of the camera on the back.
Mines does not shut off like some are saying in here. Im running the konane rom.

Good question above.
How does SetCPU grab temp data? Does it come off a Hummingbird thermo?

Phone temp.

Yo, can anybody tell me what is considered to hot. My phone gets really hot. I'm starting to worry that its running to hot. Right now I'm running EVIO 1.3 ,king.#9. And setup is displaying 105.7f. Thank in advance...... ONE!

Yo.
I was going to ask the same question but I keep getting scolded for asking "dumb" questions. My EVO gets up to 42 deg. celcius while WiFi tendering and constantly cycling between 3g and 4g. That's like 106 deg. fahrenheit!
Anyone?
Same here. The highest I seen it in my phone is 43 celcius, it feels hot to me. Please help......
The colder the better but your phone will automatically shut itself down if it gets too hot. I would say anything over 110F or 115F is where you need to start worrying.
Somewhere just north of 120 degrees, your phone's LED's will start flashing red to indicate a heat problem. I have seen this when my EVO is dashmounted for navigation in the summer. I have a SetCPU profile that throttles the processor way back when the phone hits 119 degrees.
Thanks guys, seems I was good then

[Q] How hot is too hot?

OK, I've done some searching on here and I haven't really been able to find a definitive answer.
How hot is TOO hot for the battery on a G2/Vision?
When I have my G2 overclocked to 1.2Ghz/1.4Ghz and I'm playing some PSX games, I've seen my battery temperature get as high as 109 degrees Fahrenheit.

One of my SetCPU parameters is set to slow down to about 700Mhz when the temperature reaches 127ºF.

Holy sh*t. I won't let mine pass 102°f
I think 127 is too much.
HTC Vision S-OFF CM6.1 Stable Oc'd to 1.5ghz on Pershoots Kernel
I have mine set to 40.5c (104.0f)
Although I think you could really push it to probably like 120f before you should worry. It also makes a nice hand warmer.
Max: 1804Mhz
Min: 1708Mhz
My phone gets a lot of use at work, so it's usually hovering around 104. If it actually gets to 120, I have a spare battery I can put in.
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like around 104 is the norm for heavy use while overclocked. So I'll set my profiles to underclock around 106-108 then.

[Q] Things that will cause permanent damage to phone?

I'm not talking about water damage or scratched screen. I'm talking damage that can be done through overclocking or overvolting or frying the motherboard/CPU in any way.
I want to make my Droid last the longest it can. But I also like to see how hot the battery is (to stop phone from baking). So I rooted it and installed cm7, and installed CPU master so I can see how hot it is. CPU master had an update and apparently it makes phones crash because of overvolting, even if they don't overclock (like me). So my phone crashed and I had to pull battery out to reboot it. I really just want to know if I caused permeant damage to the CPU/ processor.
Am I worrying about this too much?
I overclock to 1.5 gHz with no issues. I have also undervolted my kernel as well. Make sure you have a kernel that is compatible with whatever over/under you are trying to achieve.
I've been running mine Oc'd to 1.2 ghz and Uv'd -25. Doesn't seem to have caused any issues. Battery life has been great. I've never noticed any excessive heat from the rear cover when playing games that may tax the Cpu/Gpu and cause heat. I think the Inc2 is built pretty well, and can take quite a lot even when pushed hard
Mine gets pretty hot sometimes I wonder at times if is getting damage, but it has never stop working

I had mine plugged in charging while using gps and playing music for a 5hr road trip (also OC'd to 1.8 ghz no set undervolt) got up to 125*F but nothing bad has happened

Phone Overheating

My phone is overheating, it is overclocked to 1.809 ghz and is on Interactive CPU governor. I dropped my pillow on it last night and it went at least to 50 Celsius and had to let it cool. And now it's like 37 degrees by just sitting here...

I would lower the overclock to stock 1.5 and see if that improves it. I have had that issues when mine was OC to 2.1Ghz. Also make sure you don't have a ton of apps running in the backgroud.
What ROM are you using?

try to undervolt your steps using setcpu or any other app that allows you to do so. It worked with my girlfriend's Galaxy nexus

note 8 cpu temp 71 f

my note 8 get very hot when i play modern combat 4 the temp about 71 degree (measured by system tuner ) and the battery temperture about 37 or more and the left side of the screen becomes very hot and the battery drain quickly is this will harm my device sorry for my bad english ??

This might be a question better answered by Samsung (unless it is a carrier model). Many questions though....
Does it get too hot to hold? Are you charging it while playing? Is your tablet oc/ov? What is the ambient temperature where playing?
Here is a previous thread with this same topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251830
Might scroll through the posts and maybe even post there about it as well. Sorry, can't help anymore than this.

But its not a problem. Your device will power down or turn down CPUs when you reach a certain temperature threshold. At least I know my phone does. I've never seen temperatures like that on any of my devices. The most I've ever seen even when over clocked to 2.1 GHz is in the 50s. Even then I'm not worried about it damage isn't done until the high 80s 90s. But how are you getting these temps. Are you outside in 90 degree heat gaming? I even have my GPU way over clocked and I never seen 70.

Yeah, only problem I had with this device and my Note 2. (same processor). These bad boys heat up. Especially if you do alot of flashing of roms.
Yea I ran my note 2 really hot playing dead trigger last night and overclocked 1.92 ghz plus 733 mhz gpu overclock but I still dont have heat readings of more than 56 celcius. And I have an app that monitors cpu temperature while im playing so I can see it in real time. Maybe your device is having a problem. Oh do you have a real thick case? That can cause heat buildup. If I leave , y case on my note 2 while playing a game it causes less heat dissipation and runs almost 10 degrees warmer. You might wanna consider that

Why will undervolting harm your CPU or battery? I can see stability issues with undervolting and have experienced them while experimenting with the settings. I cant see how it would harm the hardware though. As someone said above. The device should shut down if the processor gets too hot to protect itself. Also, undervolting should reduce the temperature.
The built in powersaving option in touchwiz will underclock your cpu to 1.1GHz. you can set it back to your standard setting with a push of a single button the menu.
I overclock and undervolt and have no worries about damage. I have had issues with my tablet turning itself off sometimes, but it has only happened on particularly hot days. I reduced my OC from 1.8 to 1.7Ghz. And i reduced my undervolt from -75 to -50 vs stock as I was having the occasional crash.
Are the CPU and GPU on the same processor or located in the same area of the tablet? I hear alot on hear about the CPU temp making the device extremely warm but wondered how the GPU acted. If you underclock the CPU, does this put more load on to the GPU when playing games or will the GPU load be the same regardless.
