Yo, can anybody tell me what is considered to hot. My phone gets really hot. I'm starting to worry that its running to hot. Right now I'm running EVIO 1.3 ,king.#9. And setup is displaying 105.7f. Thank in advance...... ONE!

Yo.
I was going to ask the same question but I keep getting scolded for asking "dumb" questions. My EVO gets up to 42 deg. celcius while WiFi tendering and constantly cycling between 3g and 4g. That's like 106 deg. fahrenheit!
Anyone?
Same here. The highest I seen it in my phone is 43 celcius, it feels hot to me. Please help......
The colder the better but your phone will automatically shut itself down if it gets too hot. I would say anything over 110F or 115F is where you need to start worrying.
Somewhere just north of 120 degrees, your phone's LED's will start flashing red to indicate a heat problem. I have seen this when my EVO is dashmounted for navigation in the summer. I have a SetCPU profile that throttles the processor way back when the phone hits 119 degrees.
Thanks guys, seems I was good then

Hi,
I am sorry if this is the wrong section, but considering it's a question. I assume it's correct.
When I am charging my phone it gets extremly warm when charging. I mean, really warm.
I can hold it in my hand, but it's unusually warm, perhaps around ~35C. When I plug out my phone it soon sinks down to 20C.
I am using CM7.1 OC'd to 710MHz. Could this be because of the OC? I think that I can rule that out easily, because I had similar "issues" before, when running stock rom.
Thanks.
I don't think that's abnormally hot...
Mine is usialy at the 35-36 degree range.
I did get it to 40 when I was playing some games and listening to music
Perhaps I am overreacting, but honestly it felt like I could cook bacon on my phone...
It's normal, I would say. Happens to me as well, and, because the ambient temperature is already over 32-33C, the phone feels its 40-42C+.
Besides, on my friends Desire, its 24x7 warm, even when not charging. So, more reason for me to assume this "overheating" is normal.
Yeah okay, thank you for your answers, I suppose it's always good to have the chance to steak some meatballs on the go...
Ofcourse it is normal at 35.
When overclocked + gaming + charger plugged + data connection / bluetooth / wifi .
Using some of these simultaneously makes battery hot.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
you can check the battery temperature with an app like elixir for example. With my stock ROM I even got a 42 degree one time when tethering internet in the sun. That was a bit high I think, but I've been at 35 degrees a lot of times with no problems
Like the topic says..
My Defy usually very hot whenever I surf the internet using 3G. Sometimes temperature hit around 45°C.. When idle on 2G, it stay around 35°C which is normal.
Anybody experience temperature above 45°C ? I'm running setvsel to minimise the voltage use and at 1000mhz seemed doesn't cool it down.
Sent from my awesome Moto Defy: Stock Rooted Gingerbread 2.3.3 - XDA Premium
mine 800 mhz reaching till 41 c without running setvsel.
i think its normal.
and don't forget the warms of the hands are part of it.
when i'm playing modern combat 2 less than 15 min get's hot.
The hottest mine has gone was 50degrees..usingit as a wifi hotspot
But the temp drops to 40 - 45 if there is full 3G signal...
I have reached temperature above 40 C occasionally. Heck I've reached 45 when using my defy as a router for the wife's iPod (immediately stop and throw the defy in a bucket of water for a minute afterwards..temp drop down to 26!!) .
If i am using HSDPA, temp will get high, 39 -41 Celcius is expected after an hour of heavy browsing. very rarely went above it unless downloading a big file.
But it is much better compared to before, right now i am using the central europe baseband running 2.3.4-134. When I am using stock UK or even SEA baseband, temp reached 43 after just 15 minutes of browsing.
I am in Indonesia, and found the Central Europe BB is the best for me.
I only get high temp from HSDPA, never from wifi or gaming. Played 3d games till my battery almost out and it only reached 40. Played a movie for 2 hours and the temp is only at 39/40. Transfer 4GB of data using moto portal Wi-Fi to my PC for 2 hour, temp is 37 and this is done today.
Here is my take, a temperature of 41 in using the defy is expected when you are using your HSDPA, anything above 41 is considered HOT for me.
This device tend to be hotter then say my friend Galaxy S. probably since it is water resistant so the heat/air outlet is limited.
dont worry too much, you can do what i do and dunk the defy in a glass/bucket of cold water should you deemed the device is too hot.
I'm on leaked 2.3.4, and I have highest temp when surfing on 3G 44 c, when idle the temp is about 28 c.
I would hope and wish this Defy will stand up at 50 c since it name of dust and water resistant mean no air or any ventilation in or out from this device. But sometimes it worried me of holding it when it becoming hotter. Normally I will open the battery cover after I finished my games or surfing and lay it down for a few minutes.
Note: I hardly get anywhere near 40 c when I was using Froyo 2.2.2 french retail version. Perhaps this gingerbread run 1000Mhz by default caused its temperature rise quicker.

I live in Texas USA. Here in the summer the temp' is above 100°(38°c) Fahrenheit 90% of the time. One day my wife left her cliq XT in the car. When we returned the screen was showing 'cool down mode'. When the home screen came up and I look at the temp', it was showing 58°C. I was shocked! Her phone still works properly.
So I think these phones can survive extreme temperatures.

Typically mine runs about 30C (86F). On a really hot/humid day here in Iowa, and while charging, it will reach around 45C (113F). I've got my defy running with setvsel at [email protected]/[email protected]/[email protected]

This look promissing! The phone actually will auto switch to 'cool down mode'.
Probably the mode will triggered above 60c. Thanks for the input..
Mine is above 35°C whith 1,3ghz/78vsel.

mine is sat idle at 26c but using 3g on a hot day i have seen it hit 45c it is running at:
300Mhz 22
600MHz 32
1GHz 52
I was just curious to know if someone else's phone is over heating. Yesterday I was watching a boxing match on youtube with 4G on and it reached to a scary 121°. 4 hours later I was playing the nova demo with the screen at 45% brightness, played for like 20 minutes or so and it reached 112°. Just whanted to figure out if this is normal that personallyI think is not, and also if someone else it's experiencing the same issue. Thanks
Edit: Both of times I was indoorsjust in case someone is wondering.

Mine can get much hotter than that but it pretty much hovers around the 120 range when I'm browsing the web.
I also get this message when charging and watching a video. I need to exchange it. Just need to find a Best Buy store that has one in stock.
What do you use to check the temp?
mine gets real hot as well.. I think it has to do with charging while using though.
Woow thats amazing. Im guessing that those temperatures can be harmful to the phone right?
I use system info from the market to check my phone status very useful

It could be that and the stock charge pushed a lot of power in to charge quicker... But my input is that my phone hasnt even gotten very hot at all..

My phone was just laying in shotgun of my car with the car charger plugged in and the display on, then all of a sudden I picked it up and it was hella hot! 120° read SetCPU and I got shook, ripped the battery out and threw the phone in front of an AC but then I got worried that the extremities could possibly warp the board, so now Im thinking Im going to return my phone! In no way can this be good for the phone, I don't see how it can not get affect it when reaching 120, 130, 140 degrees!!! Im worried that in a week, a month, a year from now something will go terribly wrong and I really don't want to risk it, so I'm real close to returning this phone and just waiting for the Nexus!
I am amazed that a phone getting hot after heavy use is such a surprise to everyone. See any fans? see any ventilation? Here you are using a dual core 1.5 GZ processor, what were you expecting, ice water?
Ahh... Set CPU. So you can't really find the temp until you're rooted?
Hmm

Who mentioned anything about heavy usage and overclocking? CPU is 1.2Ghz stock buddy and I wasn't doing anything on my phone at the time it overheated...I have a Droid Incredible 2, and I run its CPU OC to 2.035Ghz and its never once gone over 105 degrees, so before you go getting all amazed, get your facts straight!
I have noticed this too.
With the phone simply in my pocket, my leg would feel warm. I could grab the phone and the phone would feel quite hot. Not so hot that it would burn my ear, but warm enough that it would feel like there's some kind of problem. Usually, heat = battery getting drained. When I check to see if there's anything running, there's nothing...
Right now, have been listening to Spotify for over 2 hours, and it's cold as ambient temperature. Will try installing some monitoring program and report if I notice more heat issues. I know the Evo3D used to get "burns my ear" hot when using it as GPS while connected to the car charger. My guess was that if the screen is on, and there's power going to it, it'd always get hot. Maybe it wasn't supposed to and that was just my assumption. However, same thing happens to this one; watching netflix, or playing a game, or anything demanding, and if I'm plugged, it will get really hot, really fast. If not connected, it won't get as hot, but "normally" hot nonetheless.

That you know of, did they ever fix the issue on the Evo3D?
Let me put it another way. I don't see any process or feature that will cool down the phone when in moderate to heavy use. I expect it to get hot. I have always thought, how are they going to disperse the heat?

Mine got hot on day 1 from youtube and general setup but after a full nights charge it has been great for 2 full days, no heating up or anything weird.
But man did it get hot!
Edit: I turned off gps the night this happened. I have been using my phone alot and have not experienced this again.
You need a dose of Penicillin and Cortizone. The burning sensations should clear up. In the mean time, stay away from strange phones and turn off the vibration loop - LOL
Sorry, but I've done quite a bit with my phone (videos, NetFlix, etc...) and it doesn't get warm enough to burn.
An Intel CPU (i7, for example) can run at 200 degrees Fahreneheit. In fact, the roof is about 100 degrees Celsius. To protect the CPU, there are heatsinks, fans, water cooling, etc. Video cards can also go up to 70 degrees celsius before showing artifacts; some can do much better.
We're commenting a heat that is not nearly that much for a phone. IF the SOC gets to 100 degrees celsius, that's one thing; 100 degrees fahrenheit...that is the temperature in many places around here.
These SOC don't need such fans, heatsinks, etc, because they're not supposed to reach temps of 200 degrees. They should be self contained.
On my Evo3D, which I passed on to my father, I could smell like something was burning. It wasn't, but it smelled like if it were, around the battery. Yeah, it still gets hot when in use, and specially if connected.
I believe there's also comments that on all new phones, the first few charges, while the battery adapts, the phone may be hot. Of course it had been over 2 months on my Evo3D and it still gets hot.
The E4gT is doing better today, but I haven't thrown any video/games at it yet; nor has it been in my pocket.
I'd say give it a couple days. I know I've reported my own concern, and I'll be checking it to make sure the "hotness" is within reasonable limits.

Something Ive always wondered, what is an "AVERAGE" battery temperature for cell phones? I ask because im using setcpu and i never knew the temp. to start getting concerned . Right now it is 87.6 degrees with the low clock at 1ghz on demand at all times.

That is normal temperature. Once you use the phone (play games, internet, etc) it will reach around 90-100 degrees.

There are several different applications on the android market which will tell you the temperature of your battery in Celsius and Fahrenheit. That is about average temp, I have two phones sitting next to me right now and they are both in the mid 80's range on the temp. You want to be concerned if your battery reaches temperatures exceeding 101 degrees (Fahrenheit) (38 Degrees Celsius) when doing any activity and especially if it is getting that hot while sitting in standby.
I've had a recent problem with mine the other day I was having a really bad battery drain and the battery was over heating bad(im talking 105 degrees) since then I was able to fix what was draining the battery but I noticed when I use only my car charger (which was meant fire my vibrant) it heats up. I'm thinking the car charger voltage is different.

i could have probably fried an egg with that
Mine stays around 82 while screen off. On and playing games it got up to 110.
Pretty much what the title says. I just downloaded Modern Combat 4 & I have been playing it a little bit. I'm on CM10 w/ Ktoonsez's kernel w/ it underclocked a pretty good bit. While I was playing the game my phone got really hot! I had my max at 1.5 gigahertz & my voltage at that frequency is 1065 mv. I was reaching temps of 106° & 107°. I quit playing for a while & let it cool down b/c I didn't wanna mess anything up. How hot can I run my phone before damaging something? Sorry post was so long.

If you are talking 106F or 107F, that seems to be around normal temperature. That's what I've been reading in the forums while researching my own heat issues. My phone gets that hot, around 45c just using chrome and instagram to look at pics. And the back gets really warm, I'm guessing it's because of the thin plastic battery cover Samsung uses. I was thinking about returning mine, I just got it last week, but I guess this is a normal thing. Plus I'm stock with JB update through Kies.
106 107 temperature is normal. I have seen my phone get to 120 before when it was running a bunch of things at once. My phone is normally around 85 - 90 degrees when idle. I wouldn't worry about it until it get to 115 120 I would think.
