[Q] prl question - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I followed all the instructions on rooting without a computer and all went well. I have root, CWM2.5.1 and DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.02.zip working just fine. However, when I go to update PRL and profile, I get errors and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Its a common problem with sprint.

So it's not to rom/kernal?

Something could have happened in the flash. You can verify by Odin back to stock and see if you can update. Sprint fixed there end so most phones update again.
Do you BONSAI?

I havent been able to update stock or custom for about a week now. Its no biggy, I know Im on the current prl.

Evo will not OTA update to .6 software

Right now my evo is stuck on the original .1 software. When go to firmware update and htc software update it does not show that any updates are available. The only thing I have done to my phone is used unrevoked. What is the best way to get the .6 OTA update. I know I could go through the rooting process and do it that way, but I don't want to wipe my phone and would just like to do the regular update. Thanks for the help

Reboot and do not unrevoke and try to update.
If that doesn't work, *2

I just rebooted and went directly to software update and it still is not finding the .6 update. I work for sprint and I tried checking for an update on one of our demo phones and it did the same thing, so that rules out it being related to unrevoked.
If I call customer service, all their going to tell me to do is take it to a service center. Any more suggestions?

Would this wipe my phone back to factory?

is everyone but me on OTA now?

I am still not seeing the OTA update from my stock evo. Just wondering if they are still rolling it out or if everyone but me has access now ;-)

What ROM are you running?
If you're running a 2.2 rom already it might think you are current already
Also, just in case you've missed the other billion times it's been said:
DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU LIKE HAVING ROOT ACCESS TO YOUR PHONE

Then just keep checking, it'll show up eventually.
Try updating your profile, and rebooting wouldn't hurt anything.
Thanks for the ideas. So I guess no one knows if its a gradual roll out or if it's available for everyone yet...
I thought it wasn't coming out till thurs? What did I miss..anyway I won't be updating right now. Waiting for all you impatient people to report the bugs and for things to be updated.
Running rooted 1.47. Happy with it...but want that new PRL and wimax because reception here stinks and can't hold 4g if you step in any direction from where you connected.

Still haven't received OTA.

I still haven't received the OTA, and I'm not rooted or anything. Is anyone else not received it? Am I doing something wrong?

Sprint said 10 days for 100% deployment, I believe it's been like 6. I just did the manual update i hate waiting.

My only would download when I was on wifi, it stopped with I was in 3g.
Will this un-root me?
I'm coming from an EVO 4G to the Epic 4G Touch. I did the non-Odin root method, does anyone know if this OTA will un-root the Epic?

The update will fail if you're rooted. You have to be stock to update via OTA. Why not manual update + root?

Typically the OTA install fails on a rooted device. Undo root first if you want the update sprint's rolling out.

How did you do the manual update, I really want to do it.

I used the zerg rush method that's been listed here to root my phone so I can use TitaniumBackup for my work apps (Good/RSA). I tried other ROMs/Kernels but I got horrible LOS unless I was on stock. I haven't tried since EK02 though but will soon.
I applied the patch with root and it applied successfully. I manually downloaded the leaked zip to my desktop, renamed to update.zip, placed on the root of my SDCARD, booted the phone in to download mode and applied the update.
Update applied without issue but my root WAS removed. I re-ran the auto root using that zerg rush method and my root was back. This was last week and so far no issues.
Pick a ROM...there's lots to choose from...Calk's, StrongSteve, Crawrj, Chris41g...(just to name a few) we've got a slew of brilliant dev's who have cooked up some great ones. Make sure you're on an EG30 modem first before a full EK02 update/flash though. Most of us flashed the EG31 when it leaked and were stuck for a bit.

got the update this morning
I got the update this morning, and for the record, I was and remained rooted before and after the update (sfhub ez-root)...Maybe it worked since my system was completely stock, only rooted.

That is correct, if you only ROOTED using the auto root sticky, that will not impede you from successfully installing the EK02 OTA update. If you also installed EG30+CWM, then all you would need to do is install EG30 before accepting the EK02 OTA update.
BTW after the OTA update installed, you would still have Superuser in your app drawer, but the functionality would have been disabled. To re-enable, just run the auto root and choose Option A.
Still haven't gotten the update...on complete stock with no root or anything and EG30
For some reason LoS has gotten really bad the past few days...I guess I only have to wait a few more though so it's not too bad

I got the update this morning (out of no where). Yesterday, I tried putting my phone on airplane mode, turn it off, then pull the battery - nothing. Tried putting phone on airplane mode, pull the battery, then turn airplane mode off - nothing. (This worked for somebody on some ET4G forum out there) Lol, I just think it's ironic!
Just be patient.
Anyone know of a way to disable the update notification?
I don't want it popping up every 10 minutes.

I woke up to the "your update is ready to install message" message. I'm rooted on blazer 1.2, if i want to stay where I'm at, can I just reboot to clear the update? I just don't feel like reinstalling apps and restoring sms.

Where is LG8?

So there is all of this talk about reverting back to stock LG2 in order to get LG8. But I have been stock since I bought my phone and I am still not getting the OTA notification for LG8. I have tried to go to system updates and search for the update, but the phone keeps telling me that I am already up to date. Are they not fully rolled out yet? I'd rather not odin install this.
Thanks.

You have to wait, the OTA will be pushed to you. I was refreshing over and over for a couple days and didn't get it.

Usually it takes about a week for the OTA to be pushed out. Phones are notified in random order.

[Q] My S3 wont update

I got the notification for the update a few days ago, but my phone wont update.
It's currently on 4.4.2 and I'm not certain what version it's trying to update too.
I took a picture of what happens when I try and update it, and I can provide any more info, just ask

It's probably the NJ2 update, if your not completely 100% stock unrooted, it will fail.
