I have an unrooted T-Mobile G2 which I bought when it came out last year and recently everytime I turn on Wi-Fi it says "Unable to scan for networks" and then the Wi-Fi turns itself off. As my phone is not rooted I am unable to modify any of the files which are not on my SD card. I have contacted T-Mobile and ... well ... no help. All the rep had me do was reboot the phone twice. He also told me that he was submitting a ticket for my issue and to wait 72 hours for a reply. It has been more than 72 hours now and just want some options. Any suggestions?
I have done a factory reset. The reason I haven't rooted yet was because I was waiting till Cyanogenmod 7 came out but when it did, my phone started having this issue. I could still root but would like a non-root answer in case I have to return the phone and I'd have to unroot my phone.
Seems like you answered your own question. If tmobile won't help you help yourself

I just got a G2. perm rooted it. and everytime upon booting up it has signal for 1 second then literally just disappears and never comes back. can't choose mobile network or anything because it can't search for it. tried doing *#*#infor#*#* and it says GSM ONLY and everytime i try to change it to WCDMA PREFERRED it keeps reverting back as soon as i exit. the only way i've been able to get signal back so far is to connect to wifi and enable wifi calling, then after disconnecting i'm able to get signal and i'm able to check the WCDMA PREFERRED option but awhile ago i was on wifi calling then left my house and it was disconnected but wasn't able to get signal again.
can anyone help me with what i should do because although i might be able to get it back through wifi calling, this will be very problematic whenever i'm not near my normal wifi locations...
thanks for the help
Eh... I would try reinstalling a stock rooted rom.

Is it factory unlocked? Have you used an unlock code? Have you tried the full radio s off, super Cid thing?

I wonder if your SIM card is faulty, needs cleaning, or is just a bit loose in the socket.

This is what it sounds most like to me. Also try to install another rom since you have it rooted now and see if that fixes the issue. Make sure you do a Nandroid backup first though!

I never put an unlock code and I'm still on tmobile. I called them and so far I haven't had trouble with signal as much but my number doesn't show up under status in about phone settings...it just says unknown. Its only on this phone though, my n1 shows my number with this sim.

No it wasn't. For the past couple of days since calling tmobile, its been significantly better but today I did randomly have that same problem of no connection, but mostly right now my problem is my g2 not being able to read my phone number in "status" under "about phone" settings but it does on my n1. When I called tmobile they tried sending my number ota 3 times with no luck...

During the first 30 days you can go to a TMO store and get a new phone, pretty much "no questions asked". I'd go ahead and do that if I was you. Oh, go to a corporate store though, not a mall kiosk.
While you're there, get a new SIM, too. All free of charge.
If you still have the same problem after that, I'd try an exorcist
Is this problem solved now ? I got the same problem but have no chance to return it back.
If there is the way to solve it, could you please inform and share
Thx

My signal problems seemed to be resolved, at least for the past week. It was resolved by calling tmobile customer support and they did some tests. However, my phone not recognizing my phone number under settings> about phone> status, is still a problem. Even tried getting a new sim and still didn't solve the problem. Did numerous OTAs with tmobile that didn't work. My number still shows up on caller id and stuff its just that menu thing. Sounds insignificant but some apps use that to determine your phone number. Also, when putting my sim back into my nexus one, it does show my number...

Nevermind, my other problem was just resolved after reading a post in the cm6.1.1 thread. Settings-call settings-additional settings-my phone number.

Hi Guys,
I will try to make this as short as possible. I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S3 that was rooted and running the liquid smooth rom and activated on Simple Mobile. It worked great for a little over two weeks, but when my wife went to use the phone this morning it would say "Not registered on network" when she tried to make a call. I thought this may be a carrier issue so I contacted Simple Mobile. I started looking up this issue online and found that many people were in the same boat if they had either lost their IMEI or had a blocked IMEI. I got a little worried since I purchased the phone on Craigslist so I called T-Mobile. They confirmed that the IMEI is clean and can be activated. I decided to unroot the phone and return to stock. I used ODIN to flash firmware build IMM76D.T999UVALEM. Initially it got stuck on the boot screen so I did a factory data wipe and all was okay. I also reset the binary flash counter prior to reloading the stock firmware. When all was said and done the phone booted back up and the device status was back to normal and all seemed right in the world except there was still no voice or data. I thought maybe Simple Mobile just sucks so I went to a T-Mobile store and activated the phone on a prepaid plan with unlimited data. The device powered up and immediately sent a voicemail notification, but did not activate. Under status I have Network: Unknown, Mobile Network Type: Unknown, Service State: Out of Service, My Phone Number: Unknown, ERI Version: Unknown. The IMEI is there and correct.
At this point I have taken this to the edge of my ability and I could really use some advice. I fear that this may be an issue with the device and if so I do not know what recourse I have to get it fixed under warranty since I bought it used. At this point I will try anything and all suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated!
Check your apn settings. Go to settings -> more settings -> mobile networks -> access point names. If you're still on t-mobile then press menu button and select reset to default. If you're on someting else find apn settings for your network and copy them in the right places. Besides that and hardware problem I don't see any other reason, but I'm not an expert on that and I think there are people who will have some ideas on how to fix it.
Good luck

Hi Hajme,
Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention above, but I did verify the APN settings and everything looked good. The odd thing is that even if the APN was whack, I should still be getting voice. I contacted Samsung and luckily they are going to take it in on a warranty claim, so hopefully they can work it out.
I have the exact same problem but for verizon. If anybody knows a way to fix it please let me know. Thanks.
T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 - Searching loop problem for Mobile Network
I am having the same problem this morning! I have unlocked the tmobile sgs3 and i have been using the phone for the past three months using another carrier sim. I searched all the forums and couldn't fine a solution for it! There was no problem with the carrier sim, cos I tried it on my other phones and it worked fine. I have flashed cm10.1 nightly build , aokp , stock ics rom and stock jelly bean, still having the same issue... I have even reseted the binary counter, still no use ! I went into service mode using *#197328640#, found that the carrier name was "unknown". There was no no problem with the antenna, I could still receive other carrier signals . The thing is it does not register , It keeps on going in a search loop! The product was purchased from T-Mobile and is unlocked! What should I do?

Please hear me out as I'm very frustrated. I got my Note 2 less than one month ago but already past the 14 days return window so I cannot return it.
I left it completely stock, didn't even root. About a week ago I tried to update PRL and Profile (just for the heck of it) and it kept giving me a connection error #6204.
At first I didn't think much of it given that it could be a temporary problem with Sprint and even more so that they are messing around with the towers for LTE etc. However, I tried to update PRL/Profile with my wife's GS3 and they completed successfully while my Note2 kept giving me the 6204 error. Thats when I realized it was a problem with my phone. I googled the 6204 error code and found that supposedly doing ##72786# would fix it. I did it, phone rebooted, and the Hands Free Activation came up but always failing on every retry. So I was without data and voice. I found that by canceling the Hands Free Activation and going to "activate this device" on the settings managed to activate me, removing the looping Hands Free Activation and giving me data and voice. However, still no PRL/Profile update as kept getting same error.
So I called Sprint and they had me do the ##72786# again which brought back the looping failing Hands Free Activation again. Rep didn't know what to do and I told him I can cancel it and do the same "activate this device". Still no PRL/Profile so he transfered me to Tier 2 Support or something. Next rep had me do ##myMSLcode# and edited the MDN/MSID to the correct entries since they had 0000003433. Didn't fix the problem and they just told me that they didn't know what it was and what else to do so that my phone was defective and to go to a repair center to get it replaced with a refurbished one. I'm like OCD with my phone taking extreme care of it and the thought of getting an used one terrifies me. Besides, their diagnosis didn't sound too convincing with the whole "don't know what it is so it must be defective".
So I asked in another forum and they told me that maybe an Odin flash to a stock rom might fix any corruption if that were to be the problem.
I have tried garwynn's one-click stock MA7, both rooted and unrooted, but this time Hands Free Activation also kept looping AND the "activate this device" activated it BUT this time it forced a reboot and when it rebooted, back to Hands Free looping (whereas before it didn't reboot after "activate this device" and stayed activated)
I even flashed the TWRP recovery on billard412's post with Carrier wipe, wiped Carrier and nothing.
What I last did was flash billard412's LJC stock and let it OTA to MA7. I managed to activate it using "activate this device" however still can't update PRL/Profile (error 6204) and while I'm in LTE/CDMA mode I can connect to 3G and LTE when available but if I put it in CDMA only mode it will NOT connect to 3G and keeps giving "error 67 registration error".
Its just so many random problems that don't make sense. Could someone please help me? I will PayPal $10 or something to whoever can guide me towards a solution.
Thanks!
I had the same problem sprint tech is replacing mine. I would swing by a sprint store.

Hey all,
So I have a Galaxy Note 4 for AT&T but I am currently using it on the T-mobile network and experience no problems whatsoever. I recently tried to update my device from Android 5.0.1 to 5.1 but keep getting an error message saying Software Update Interrupted even though it hasn't even downloaded anything. I simply pressed "Check for updates" and after a few seconds I receive the error message. My theory as to why it is not receiving the update is because of the conflict between it being an AT&T phone on T-mobile. Also note that I tried connecting my phone to a few computers, but neither kies nor will the computer recognize the phone.
I have tried to:
-Clear cache in settings->storage->cache
-Clear cache partition from android recovery menu
-Looked for update on 4g data and not on wifi
Any help is appreciated

You need to be on At&t network with register to AT&T sim card in phone. Then if you do not receive updates you need to call AT&T.

@norbarb I read that forum however it didnt work. I also read somewhere there that I had to have AT&T "push" the update to my phone but not sure how. I have a AT&T sim card but it won't activate for some reason.
@Amos420en the problem with that is that my computer will not recognize my note 4 (tried different wires, computers, etc.) I also read that Kies doesn't always have the most "updated" software.
Have you tried to update by connecting to attwifi access point? I read that it will work for folks not connected to att network..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Do you have some type of link to a forum or external site as to where I can do that? Is that connected through the APN? Example: eps.mobile.com or fast.tmobile.com?
I haven't tried the files myself, seemed like several people were able to confirm Odin was working. I'm still on 5.0.1 haven't had time to try to update, I'll have to do it manually seeing that I'm on metro pcs network. That's weird you've tried multiple ways to get your phone to connect to a computer and it wont. Could be a driver issue possibly, I know my USB 3.0 port doesn't work with my phone.

Yah I tried connetcting to an ATT APN but it wont save it for some reason.
Ok so here waa the end rest and my conclusion.
I went to Best Buy's Samsung Experiencr Center, and I told them about my issue. They said to try an AT&T sim card that is activated and working. So I went to a kiosk right next to the Samsung Center (still in best buy) and I spole to a very nice man who would let me use his Sim card and his data to download and install the update. Unfortunately that didn't work and I thanked the man.
I asked him who would update my phone and he suggested an AT&T retail store and promised me they would be able to do it.
I went to the AT&T store and a woman asked for my name, number, etc. and asked for my reason and what problems Iwas having. I told her, but once I mentioned that I was a T-mobile customer you felt that she didnt want me in the store. And she straight up told me that since I wasnt a paying AT&T customer, I couldnt get any help. I was angered and I told her that I have a $600 phone from their carrier and they will help me
So I went and talked to the manager(a very helpful one and very nice). He tried to do everything including giving me an AT&T activated sim card to keep for myself and trying at home. I thanked the man and left to a T-mobile store.
At the T-mobile store the lady at the front desk simply called Tech support which was helpful and the lady at tech support tried multiple techniques and even offered to submit a ticket but told me that nothing was problably going to heppen but said that it was worth a shot.
So conclusion?
The man from the AT&T kiosk at best buy told me I wasn't the first to have this problem. He suggested I simply sell the phone and get another T-mobile note 4 which is what I'm going to do. He also suggested I load the odin files like some of you suggested but im afraid to wreck and brick this phone. So in my opinion its better to just do a trade off to a Tmobile Note 4. If any of you have other alternatives please do reply. Iwant to thank everyone for their input.
And for others with the same problem just know it is a common one and I hope this forum helped.
Android on fellow users!
