Hey XDA how are we?
I'm pretty sure I have a unique problem, or I'm a spazz at searching forums.
My problem is that no matter what rom/kernal/radio I use, I cannot DOWNLOAD on 3G ONLY. I can download on E and H, and upload on E/3G/H but absolutely cannot download on 3G.
Im in Melbourne, Australia on the Vodafone network
currently using Radio_12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M because word on the street is that its the best.
Today im using RCMixHD_KINGDOM_v0.2 rom and MDJ's_V15_2.6.35.13_ Kernel but it changes almost everyday.
Any advice? Greatly appreciated!

Hello. Does anyone else have this problem? Once I rooted my evolution it only picks up 2g when it used to get 3g in these same areas. Is this normal? Thank you all for your help!

Did you change your Rom? How are you certain your only getting 2g?
If you chanced the rom, you might only be seeing the "1x" when you really used to have it displayed 3g. Is it sense or AOSP?
I've flashed the stock back on when I was wondering about a certain area, still 1x speeds, but showing 3g.
Hope that helps.
Sorry about the lack of info. Im running cm7 with firstblood theme and it displays 2g. Before this I had miui and it showed the 1x like you said earlier. The speeds are still pretty good though. Just wondering if this is normal. Thanks for the help!

As long as your speeds are the same as hey were before, or close, then I wouldnt worry about it. It could just be a glitch in the rom that is recognizing 3g as 2g.
Hello all! I installed unity on my g2 and since then I haven't seen 4g at all. Any ideas? Also, I asked this a few days back but I still can't run WiFi without mobile network shutting down. Any help on either subject would be greatly appreciated!

*You should read the first few posts in the unity thread. It mentions that tmo lies about 4G and your phone will only show 4G when you really are in the area.
As for the actual 4G icon, it's been replaced with the H icon. Search the unity thread for the 4g icon mod. *
scratch that. it's gone since the last time the op was taken down. but yeah, it only shows 4g when you're actually in a 4G area. The mention of that is not in the thread anymore unfortuantely...
Final Edit: here's the official statement on that: http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/faq.html (it's the 2nd to last question on the bottom)
Your mobile netwok is disabled when you have wifi. It is normal. It prevents excessive battery drain. You'll be reconnected to your network as soon as you leave the wifi zone.

Thank you for your fast reply! I know that about the H icon, but in places i used to get it, i dont anymore. Maybe something is screwy because i just ran a speed test and it pulled 3.7 meg wit 2 bars 3g. I also understand about the wifi but for some reason i cant get calls or texts and i have to reboot to get the mobile network tgo come back on.

the "H" icon is "4G". If you want the "4G" icon, you can put it in the ROM yourself. You'll only see "H"/"4G" in the areas where the towers have been upgraded to HSPA (which is most major places by now, actually).
When you're connected to wifi, the phone automatically disables your 3G in order to save battery. It switches to "2G only" because your WiFi data is faster.

i'm going to assume that this is the first time you installed unity on it. so yeah, what you thought you had 4g, actually was 3G. the unity rom actually denotes a difference in that and tells you that it's actually 3G not 4G.
Ok man, thank you again for all of your helpful replies. However the "H" icon i used to get all over the place, now i never see it. So what youre saying is that i was never really getting 4g, it just had the H up there. What i understood was gthe H was HSPA or 4g. As i said, i live close to atlanta, so i should have it, i thought i did anyway...lol

Don't worry too much about whether or not you see the "H" icon or the "3G" icon. A lot of times the "H" hangs up there much longer than it should. I noticed on some ROMs that it will just show "H" for a long time even though you've actually moved down to UMTS connection (3G).
As long as you're getting good speeds and not noticing a difference I wouldn't stress about it too much.
Ok, thanks for all of your help as always guys... You ate the best in the biz!

lol np. just a quick search will usually solve you problems though
and to note, isn't ATL AT&T's hq? if so, then I dont think Tmo has much radio space there.
It is at&t, in fact, I'm a lineman for at&t. Tmobile is just cheaper and the service is a lot better.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
well, that's probably why. I'm on att, but i do hate their new "decisions" they've been making..but yeah, tmo probably has a little less power in that area thanks to it being AT&T's hq.
Hello all, firstly i apologise if this has been answered before, i did search but couldn`t really find a definitive answer!
I have a HTC Desire which at the moment has Gingerbread (2.3.3) on. This is the one direct from HTC which i have restored via a nandroid to see if the problem persists. The phone is rooted and s-off (clockwork mod recovery) and i have tried out a few ROM`s but the problem seems to persist.
The problem is with the Network Mode function whereby you have the 3 options, WCDMA only, GSM only or GSM/WCDMA auto. It seems i have to have this option set at GSM only for the phone to function properly. If i set it to Auto it seems that as soon as the bars drop so does the connection and i am unable to make or receive calls
When on GSM only i can access the internet but obviously not 3G so i only get an E above the arrows.
I`m in the UK on Vodafone and my area says it has good coverage for 3G which i can confirm by using other phones.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem may be, i like my Desire and would love to be able to use the full potential.
Happy Christmas and New Year to all...
p.s. If you need more info, i`m only to happy to provide it.
What happens when you set network-type to WCDMA only?
Is your radio up-to-date?

What's your problem with WCDMA only? And which do you mean with Exgo? Please write the whole name.
a fix maybe
hi mattchur try this code as if you are making a phone call,*#*#4636#*#*,in there are a list of commands you can change gsm/wcdma,it may help you fella
Thanks for the replies guys, it seems i have made some headway into the issue!
I tried using WCDMA only as suggested by MatDrOiD (thanks for that) but the reception seemed a bit flaky...
Using the *#*#4636#*#* which i knew about (but thanks burty39) iv`e been trying out the different options (had a few issues with GSM/CDSM auto (prl) don`t do this ) it`s seems when i choose the option "WCDMA preferred" and things seem to work fine for now.
I`m getting an H (HSPDA) when connecting which is at least 3G i think and i`m able to make and recieve calls.
The network bars don`t seem to high though (2 or 3 bars), maybe i`m just in a poorish reception area despite what Vodafone say.
certified noob, is the Network app from the Market just a short cut to the above? Could you explain more about the Exgo thing please...
Cheers.
Did you check wether your radio is up-to-date?
Sorry Mat forgot about that, meant to include it in my post (bit to much booze yesterday).
Anyway i`m pretty sure my radio is the latest, details are,
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
Kernal version: 2.6.35.10-gf43272
[email protected]nd18-2 #1
Still seems a bit patchy now and then, if i select GSM only (EDGE) my signal strengh is -75dBm 22asu (full bars) and all is fine, if i stick it on WDCMA preffered (HSDPA) i get ~99-107dBm and 2-6asu (with 1 to 3 bars) and can occasionally access the net albeit slowly.
At the moment i`m just staying in GSM only, at least i know it`s working then.
It`s frustrating as i stick it on WCDMA preffered and one minute it`s fine, the next pages time out!
Cheers
No problem. Yes, you use the newest radio.
Any idea how to enter the *#*#4636#*#* mode in an Incredible S? I just get the Customize Quicksettings screen on this?
Please ask in section for HTC Incredible S.

Hello everyone.
I just wanted to talk about an issue that I've see on a bunch of Canadian S3 running cyanogenmod 10 d2att
LTE does not work. Only H+. I read somewhere that it was an issue tied to not having an LTE icon; however that was not the case. On the stock ROM I get LTE speeds around 18-24 Mbps while on cyanogenmod I only see the H+ icon and can get speeds up to 12 Mbps. How can I get LTE speed on my device? Im on Rogers
Another issue is the Bluetooth audio. Sometimes it works in my car sometimes it doesn't. I have to turn on and off the Bluetooth in order for my car to pick it up. Also this was tried on multiple decks and same issue arises.
Thanks.
First of all, make sure you have the correct apn information.

Check your APN information and make sure it matches the Rogers info posted throughout this forum.
I would also suggest taking an hour or so and reading through the Official CM10 thread to see all the issues that plague the ROM right now. Bluetooth is one of them.
Thanks so much for the replies. The keyword here was APN. I went into my setting and access points. I had 4 options: rogers default, rogers lte, rogers tethering and Rogers WAP. I selected Lte and now I'm getting 4G with 18mbps speeds.
Thanks again.
Also winamp seems to work fine with my car Bluetooth. I do not get track information but it connects fine and players fine.

Roger's is so slow at expanding their LTE coverage. Still waiting in Winnipeg.
I have the same issues and my apn settings match those of my wife's phone. Both phones are S3's and the carrier is Rogers. My phone is rooted and running cyanogenmod 10 and hers is stock tw. She gets over 20 Mbps downloads and uploads and I get 4Mbps down and over 10Mbps upload. It doesn't make any sense to me. I have searched all over these forums and others and can not find d a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone. Just want to ask for your help. How can I can get my data connection stick to HSDPA only. It's so frustrating that when my phone automatically shifts to HSPA+, my data connection will be lost and often times, it won't comes back to HSDPA. I need to manually set to WCDMA only so I can get HSDPA again but a lil later, it goes back to HSPA+ again. Kindly help me on this. I'm also open to installing a new ROM if it needs to. Here's my phone specs:
GT-N7100
JB 4.1.1
N7100DXALIA
Thank you.
I hazard a guess that its there somewhere buried in the service menus you access from the phone keypad

Same question here.. I want to stick to HSDPA and not HSPA+.. HSPA+ service at my area sucks! I notice that whenever my phone sticks at HSDPA, it is more reliable and faster..
Hopefully somebody can give an insight on this.. Thanks!
Hsdpa only
