[Q] How can I stick to HSDPA only not HSPA+ ? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone. Just want to ask for your help. How can I can get my data connection stick to HSDPA only. It's so frustrating that when my phone automatically shifts to HSPA+, my data connection will be lost and often times, it won't comes back to HSDPA. I need to manually set to WCDMA only so I can get HSDPA again but a lil later, it goes back to HSPA+ again. Kindly help me on this. I'm also open to installing a new ROM if it needs to. Here's my phone specs:
GT-N7100
JB 4.1.1
N7100DXALIA
Thank you.

I hazard a guess that its there somewhere buried in the service menus you access from the phone keypad

Same question here.. I want to stick to HSDPA and not HSPA+.. HSPA+ service at my area sucks! I notice that whenever my phone sticks at HSDPA, it is more reliable and faster..
Hopefully somebody can give an insight on this.. Thanks!

T-Mobile HDSPA

I noticed the other day that Paul from modaco posted that even though he lives in an area with NO 3G on any network all of a sudden he has 3G on T-Mobile.
In my home and surrounding areas i can only get GPRS. If i set my phone to force WCDMA it will never connect.
However after seeing Pauls post i tried again and now setting my phone to force WCDMA i can get one and two bars on HDSPA...
How very strange. It's great though because i use it for web browsing on my pc and i can download roms quickly enough.
Should maybe try a speedtest?

Pauls new coverage might be a side effect of the tmobile/three network consolidation/expansion. If he has tmob coverage now he probably has 3 too.
I've noticed a better signal recently - sometimes getting H at home. Can I ask which area of Hull you're in?
i've tried it and get 'H' at home now (liverpool city centre) with t-mob. although, i just gopt the 3GB pack turned on on Sun. was on the slower 1GB before that
T mobile are to start roaming on to the Orange network and vice versa as part of their merger which may have something to do with it.

[Q] Switching to 2G

I'm looking at some other threads on similar problems, but I'm wondering why my GNexus doesn't go to 2G automatically.
I must manually change it to 2G/Edge every time. All the other folks around me seem to continue without issue and are able to make calls although their signal isn't too hot. GetRIL says baseband and RIL match. I'm using XXLA2 on AT&T in NYC.
Tried searching around for a solution, but I'm not finding anything.
Any help would be appreciated and I hope this hasn't been asked a million times before as I was unable to find a solution. Thanks.
As in it doesn't change from 3g/4g to 2g automatically when there is no 3g/4g signal available?

Right, it just continues to show No Connection or is it Signal...? Anyway, I can't make calls, go online, anything until I switch to 2G. Is that normal? Lol.
Weird... mine switches to E when I'm in a bathroom depositing =]

[Q] 3G/4G with Tasker

I'm on Cm 10 4.1.2 and my main goal is to have 3G on until I launch apps like youtube play music etc to have 4G going.
Well so far I'm not having any luck setting my phone to just be on 3g.
Am I just stupid here? or do I need an app or some Tasker plug in to do this?
Thank you for any help you can provide ~

I have no clue you could do that... I am the biggest noob ever.
I think you're confused on how Tmobile's "4g" works. It's not actually 4G, and runs on the same base as their 3G HSPA network. You can select between 'Edge' which is 2g, and 'high speed' which T-Mo calls 4G but is really just an improved 3G.
Hope that helps!

Hmm that's confusing because of the data icon. I see it go from E to 3G to H to H+ I figged the H's where HSPA which is what T-mobile was calling "4G"
Well if I can only chose between "2G" and "3G" I think I saw that in Tasker. I'll go play with that.
Thank you.
Yeah only way to force 4g/3g is by modding the modem. Which I have had no (successful) luck doing.

Ahhh ok. I did it on my friends Thunderbolt shocked you can't do it on the SIII.
Well I just have it so 5 mins after my screen go's off it switches to 2g and 3G once it's on. That should help the over all battery life some.

[Q] Any way to shut 4G and stay on 3G

So I've been reading around but can't find or c anything, btw this is for a friends phone, not rooted, a T989 from T-Mo, the phone got updated and ever since the battery just dies fast, could anybody recommend a toggle or widget to shut or switch 3G/4G?
Thanks for any courteous help. :good:

Hi, I'm pretty sure you want just to disable 4g and stay on 3g and not go to 2g as suggested...
I would be very happy to find a way to do it since my area doesn't have 4g (DC-dual channel) coverage (I'm not even on T-Mobile network) and it's draining my battery like crazy. unfortunately, couldn't find anyway to do it, tried to flush some different radio versions but since all the recent ROMs requires JellyBean radio this is not an option anymore.
If anyone knows how to disable DC and just stay on normal 3g and can help it will be awesome.

How to exclude 2G connections on the Exynos version?

Hi,
In the network menĂ¹ of my unlocked no brand S9+ with Exynos SOC I can't choose to have only 4G and 3G like in LG devices, do You know if there is some secret code or something like that?
My goal is to have the phone only connect to 3G and 4G networks, and never connect to 2G network
Thanks a lot.
I didn't have that option on my S7 and I don't have it either on my S9. It has only 2 options with "only": 3G and 2G.
But I don't miss that, as my goal is having my phone connected to the best available network. For this "LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)" setting works great.

The problem is that once the phone switch to 2G, it will not be possible to return to 3G or 4G unless you close the call, this means worse voice quality and no data connection until you're stuck in 2G.
There is an app called 4G Switcher that I use to set it to UMTS/LTE only. Try it.

You are technically correct, but the chance of that happening - starting a voice call while only in 2G coverage, moving to a 3G/4G area while still speaking and needing data connection while speaking - is a very long shot. Not to mention that if you force 4G/3G and there is only 2G coverage, then you can't make a voice call at all. So between a lesser quality one and not being able to do it, I'll choose the former.
But my opinions are based on my experience, my destinations and the 4G/3G coverage in my country (Romania). There are extremely rare circumstances where there is no 4G/3G coverage here.
I'm using Vodafone Italy, one of the best mobile operator here in Italy, and when I make a long call, i mean longer than 15 minutes, sooner or later it always got stuck on 2G.
So it is a very annoying behavior, and I can't understand why on a LG phone I can exclude 2G and with a Galaxy S9+ I can't.
Any update on this? It is very annoying e.g. when you're calling inside a car to always go and stay stuck in 2G until the end of the conversation, without data connection working
I want to know this too! I always have better 4G reception than 2G but sometimes it gets stuck to 2G.
up, any update about this?

Yea this app works great. But after January 1st I do believe it will not matter. Since they are doing away with anything lower than 4g

I can confirm that even now, if I start a call under 4G and I'm driving, soon it will switch to 2G, no matter what I do, and I'm using Vodafone Italy, one of the best network here.
