Screen randomly turns on when charging - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have noticed that while charging my phone, the screen will randomly turn on sometimes, timeout then turn off.
The only other time I have this issue is when I am using Navigation. If I turn off the screen, it will almost immediately turn back on.

This has happened to me too. It is always when I am charging the phone.

It's because the radio is looking for and locking onto new towers. You can't do anything about it, other than turn Mobile off when charging. It's not just an Incredible thing, almost every phone and every phone OS does this.

It happens to me every time I charge the phone, usually 5-10 minutes before its fully charged.

[HELP] My screen does not turn off.

I've got a little problem that is draining my battery.
When i press the power button, my screen turns off, but two second later it turns on into the lockscreen.
Already tried a full wipe to look if some app is causing the problem, but nop. it still had the problem.
However the weird thing is that when i use the phone it never turns the screen off. it does sometimes pop up the power menu, but that does not happen often.
I hope someone can help me, because it annoys the heck of off me that i can't even get 7 hours out of my phone w/ minimal use.

[Q] Anybody else's screen shut off randomly from time to time?

My screen will sometimes shut off after only a few seconds, long before the set timeout, and it doesn't seem to be tied to any specific activity. I could be browsing the web, on the xda app, sometimes at a menu screen of a game, it doesn't seem to matter. When this happens, the power button brings me right back to what I was doing, not going to the lock screen. I'd say it happens 5-10 times a day. It's not that big a deal to me, more of an annoyance than anything. Anybody else experiencing this?

Bummer! I've been fortunate with my device/roms, haven't had any problems except one week my notification light would shut off while charging for long periods of time. On calks 2.8.1

I figured out what was causing it- power saving mode. I turned that off, the problem went away.

[Q] Samsung Captivate Glide shuts off randomly and won't turn on...

For some reason my phone will randomly turn off (or black out screen)/say it has 0% battery life and turn off, and when I press my power button it begins to turn on and show the ATT screen, but then shut off... and if I try to turn it back on the same thing happens. It seems that if I wait 10+ minutes it will turn back on "normally" but after a little while it does the same thing. What do you think is wrong with it?
Also if I plug in my charger to it, the phone doesn't have this problem.
I have been facing the same issue. Any luck with it?
Check your battery, if it's swollen you need to replace it. I had the same problem, replacing fixed it.

Screen stays lit when charging with the phone off.

Before I unlocked my phone, when it was powered off and on the charger I would get a fancy looking battery on the screen that looked to be charging. After a minute the screen would shut off and the red led would like up till it was charge. That was stock and rooted.
Now after unlock, with the phone off and on the charger I get a very very simple white battery on the screen that animates filling up. After 30 seconds or so the battery disappears but the screen stays on. No way to turn of the screen. No red led just a lit screen when the phone is off. When the phone is on all is normal and the screen is off and the red led lights up to show its charging.
I'm stock ROM, liberty kernel and no kernel tuning. I checked setting and they say screen should be off when charging. I have TWRP 2.5.0 for recovery. Any ideas why the screen won't turn off when charging with the phone off?
Thanks.

Mine does the same thing. It hasn't really been a problem. You can charge your phone with it on and just with the screen off. If you're concerned with charging it rapidly you can just turn on airplane mode. Airplane mode and screen off charges nearly as quickly as the phone being completely off.

Thanks for the reply. I usually charge with the phone on but screen off. My issue is if the phone dies (powers itself off) and I charge it, the screen is still lit even though the phone died.

Mine did the same thing after I unlocked too. Wasn't really worried about it though. I know switching to an aosp based ROM fixes the issue

Same problem here.
Any solution?
Go into settings-developer options- make sure stay awake is not checked. Lets start there.

This is happening to my LG OG as well, and having the Battery Doctor app installed usually showed the progress if I clicked the power button to show the screen, but then back off completely. Now it's that weird little white battery icon and when that goes away, the screen is empty but lit.
I preferred the Battery Doctor charging screen when off, since it shows percentage complete. If there is a way to restore that setting, please help. :fingers-crossed:
I will try to find a new AOSP ROM as was suggested below as well... keep you posted.

Woahhhh im having the exact same problem here! but my phone is NOT charging, it stayed on the little cheapo battery thing overnight and its still not booting up now
Same here
Anyone out there has a suggestion/fix ?
If I have problems I boot into recovery and let It charge that way
G0d is here. now Free
Having this issue as well, any solution?
Found none yet. I just let it charge up enough to boot back up. Then finish charging with the phone powered on but screen off.
Sent from my phone.
Stock did this for me. Any Aosp rom will fix this.

Have you updated your ROM to Stock ZVC? I am using Spleef's Carbon, and I clean flashed the updated file and restored my apps/data with TiBu, as well as updating my BatteryDoctor app, I'm not only getting the screen to turn off when charging, but it's also showing me the percentage charged on the little battery animation when I turn the screen (not the device) on.

Is there a setting to keep Tab S from shutting off while plugged into wall charger?

I guess the tablet isn't actually powering down, it's just going into sleep mode, or whatever it's called when the screen shuts off. Anyway, is there a way to keep this from happening when the tablet is plugged into the wall charger? It isn't a major deal but it is sort of annoying when I have something large downloading or have the tablet otherwise doing something on its own, but I'm not actively using it. I like to walk by occasionally and check in on things, but will often find that the tablet has shut off. Then I have to turn it back on, swipe the screen, or login if I have security on. Anyway, it would be much nicer if it would just stay on when plugged in. I've looked through the settings and can't seem to find anything related. If it's there, I'm missing it.
Thanks.
There are different between shut off and standby (sleep mode):
1- Shut off: Your tablet is shutdown, the only way to turn it on is power button.
2- Standby: the screen is off, you just need to press power or home button to turn the screen on in 2 seconds. In order to prevent the screen turn off so quickly, you only need to change the screen timeout to 10 or 30 minutes. If it turns off by itself, your tablet has a problem.
Mine can standby a whole week and it only loses a little charge when waking up.

There is no 30 minute screen timeout on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The most I can set it to is 10 minutes, and that's where it's at.
Thanks anyway.

we call that a screen time out... you can activate the stay awake while charging feature in developer option... how to activate developer option.... go to setting -> about device -> and press the Build Number 7 times. you will see something like developer option activate. then find the stay awake while charging option. that's all. :victory:

I'm starting another thread.
Thanks!
