Screen stays lit when charging with the phone off. - Sprint LG Optimus G

Before I unlocked my phone, when it was powered off and on the charger I would get a fancy looking battery on the screen that looked to be charging. After a minute the screen would shut off and the red led would like up till it was charge. That was stock and rooted.
Now after unlock, with the phone off and on the charger I get a very very simple white battery on the screen that animates filling up. After 30 seconds or so the battery disappears but the screen stays on. No way to turn of the screen. No red led just a lit screen when the phone is off. When the phone is on all is normal and the screen is off and the red led lights up to show its charging.
I'm stock ROM, liberty kernel and no kernel tuning. I checked setting and they say screen should be off when charging. I have TWRP 2.5.0 for recovery. Any ideas why the screen won't turn off when charging with the phone off?
Thanks.

Mine does the same thing. It hasn't really been a problem. You can charge your phone with it on and just with the screen off. If you're concerned with charging it rapidly you can just turn on airplane mode. Airplane mode and screen off charges nearly as quickly as the phone being completely off.

Thanks for the reply. I usually charge with the phone on but screen off. My issue is if the phone dies (powers itself off) and I charge it, the screen is still lit even though the phone died.

Mine did the same thing after I unlocked too. Wasn't really worried about it though. I know switching to an aosp based ROM fixes the issue

Same problem here.
Any solution?

Go into settings-developer options- make sure stay awake is not checked. Lets start there.

This is happening to my LG OG as well, and having the Battery Doctor app installed usually showed the progress if I clicked the power button to show the screen, but then back off completely. Now it's that weird little white battery icon and when that goes away, the screen is empty but lit.
I preferred the Battery Doctor charging screen when off, since it shows percentage complete. If there is a way to restore that setting, please help. :fingers-crossed:
I will try to find a new AOSP ROM as was suggested below as well... keep you posted.

Woahhhh im having the exact same problem here! but my phone is NOT charging, it stayed on the little cheapo battery thing overnight and its still not booting up now

Same here
Anyone out there has a suggestion/fix ?

If I have problems I boot into recovery and let It charge that way
G0d is here. now Free

Having this issue as well, any solution?

Found none yet. I just let it charge up enough to boot back up. Then finish charging with the phone powered on but screen off.
Sent from my phone.

Stock did this for me. Any Aosp rom will fix this.

Have you updated your ROM to Stock ZVC? I am using Spleef's Carbon, and I clean flashed the updated file and restored my apps/data with TiBu, as well as updating my BatteryDoctor app, I'm not only getting the screen to turn off when charging, but it's also showing me the percentage charged on the little battery animation when I turn the screen (not the device) on.

I dont know what happened now. this is the second time its done this. The first time i simulated a battery pull by holding power 10+ seconds and it worked, now it wont do the simulated battery pull it just powers off and wont turn on again. my battery is fully charged and its boots up but the screen is still very dim.
Im rooted with Imperium Agentv 2 installed nothing else. Any ideas?

Hopefully, the backlight isn't bad. I would suggest reflashing the rom, or LGNPST to stock to see if it fixes it.

[Q] Samsung Captivate Glide shuts off randomly and won't turn on...

For some reason my phone will randomly turn off (or black out screen)/say it has 0% battery life and turn off, and when I press my power button it begins to turn on and show the ATT screen, but then shut off... and if I try to turn it back on the same thing happens. It seems that if I wait 10+ minutes it will turn back on "normally" but after a little while it does the same thing. What do you think is wrong with it?
Also if I plug in my charger to it, the phone doesn't have this problem.
I have been facing the same issue. Any luck with it?
Check your battery, if it's swollen you need to replace it. I had the same problem, replacing fixed it.

[FIXED] STOCK HTC ONE - Screen not turning on, phone running hot, battery draining...

Hey guys... so I've noticed my phone acting a bit funky after the latest KitKat update. Just a bit of freezing and lagging, but my 32GB of space was also full. So I did a complete wipe and factory reset and started from scratch. At first everything was great (about a week or two). Then the past day or two I've noticed the below issues...
1. While at work, I keep the phone plugged into my computer via USB with Internet Pass-Through and WiFi turned on. I have it setup this way so I can use the computers internet and trickle charge the phone at the same time. But when I leave my desk I simply unplug my phone and it connects to my works WiFi while I'm walking around the office. I get back to my desk I plug it back in.
Problem: I've noticed lately that I'll pick up my phone and it's HOT to the touch. As well as the battery percentage is actually dropping even though it's plugged in.
2. At night when I go to sleep, using the HTC Charger and Cable that came with the phone I'll plug it in next to my bedside and let it charge.
Problem: I'll wake up in the morning, hit the power button to light up the screen and nothing happens. The Home Key and the Back Arrow (are these what everyone refers to as the "soft keys"?) are lit up but the screen will not turn on. To get the screen on, I have to HOLD the power button down, the screen then lights up with the Restart menu showing (and yes I've restarted it many times in hopes of fixing this issue) and I have to tap outside that box (on my wallpaper or wherever) and the menu will go away and my screen is back up like normal. However as soon as I tap the power button to turn off the screen (not the phone) and tap the power button again, nothing happens except the bottom keys being lit up. It's an ugly circle.
I have noticed a few times when holding the power button to bring up the screen/reset menu, sometimes the screen/reset menu will not turn on, but the home and back arrow keys on the bottom will flash a few times.
Any ideas guys? Loved this phone up until now
So after 200+ views and no comments I'd just like to add that I think I found the fix for this. I spoke with a few different HTC techs and tried multiple things before having to ship it out to them and right before doing so they had me reset what they termed the "Charging Logic"
To reset the Charging Logic
1. Power phone completely off
2. Once powered off, hold the Volume UP, Volume Down, and Power buttons for 2 minutes (my fingertips were sore afterwards LOL)
3. You should get a white background with the green HTC logo turn on/off multiple times. Almost as if it's trying to reboot...
4. After 2 minutes, let go of the buttons and let it reboot.
DONE!
Since I've done this, I've noticed my battery life extremely improved. My phone is no longer getting crazy hot, and the screen now turns on after an over-night charge!
Hope this helps others!
Does it matter what kind of charge you have on the battery when you do this? This is the first I've ever heard of resetting Charging Logic.

I'm not sure what you are asking by "what kind of charge". Could you clarify?

Does it matter what percentage your battery is at and does it work for rooted phones? Do I need to be on the stock Rom/recovery for it to work?

Sorry I'm not familiar enough with the developer side of things to tell you "it's ok" or "not".
What I can say is, the HTC tech never did ask me if my phone was fully charged or what percentage it was at. Which at the time was like 97% if I recall correctly. I am completely stock...
I would imagine this would work for rooted phones and it wouldn't matter what battery percentage but can't guarantee you...
I just wanted to come back in here and update this again. The above fix did not actually fix the phone as the problem came back again eventually. I am now on my third HTC ONE M7 and looks like I'll have to send this one back as well for the same issue.
I have a theory that it's either a problem with the OS or Light Sensor causing the screen not to turn on.
Can a mod take this thread off "fixed"

Screen turning black and on again every few seconds when battery is <80%

As soon as my battery is below 80% charge the screen seems to turn black at random every few seconds, staying like that for about 2-3 seconds and turning back on after. Note, that it doesn't turn off, but just black, so the back light is still on. Touchscreen doesn't work while the screen is black though.
This happens in system as well as during boot. It gets worse the lower the battery is.
I disabled all battery saving options, but the problem persists.
The mobile phone has not been tampered with (bootloader locked, official ROM on most recent update).
Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it?
I'd also be grateful for any ideas on how to narrow down the faulty component. :good:

Charging staying on and always on display stopped after Oct update

After the Oct update, my phone know "stops" charging after reaching 100%. My screen saver is set to run when on charger, so it stops also. Went to Always on display, turned it on, keeps turning itself off. won't hold changes. I back out, and says on, then phone goes to lock screen, then black. Open again and it's off.
Any others or tips?

Charging always stops when it reaches 100% otherwise it would damage the battery / cause a fire
OK, I can see that, but my screen saver always stayed on before, now the screen saver goes off when fully charged. And no always on display??? Figure I'd turn that on and won't hold selection for on.
