Antivirus? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a need for one?
Thanks.

It doesnt hurt to have one installed if ur rooted ur phone.
Lookouts a good app for some peace of mind.

No, linux doesn't really have viruses and the exploits that have been released in the wild wont be stopped by your antivirus anyhow

[Q] New Android Market

I downloaded the New Android Market app and then downloaded a movie after trying to play the movies it says movie will not play on rooted device. Anyone else having this issue?
Google movies won't play on rooted devices. It knows that your device is rooted, and has to do with copyright protection. That's the way it is right now.

big brother knows... your right about the copyright protection. they dont want anyone using a rooted device because then google just became the "new pirate bay". you could buy the movie. copy it with TB or any back up. ask for a refund and have the movie for free.

Another issue that I'm getting with new market is apps say they have update, but when you try to update no option to. I restored back to old market until the dev put in rom.
Hmmm I rolled back and hours later the new one auto updated.

Just use Parallels to run Windows and root that way? That's what I plan on doing if I ever root mine.

Another topic of the same kind. Anyways as usual have to reply to it.
First of all, android doesnt have viruses as far as i know. There are 1 or 2 reported but are completely harmless. Yeah, malwares are there.
Prevention from malwares can be- you should know what you are downloading and from where. Use apps like pdroid/lbe security and droidwall to limit the access of app. This is the best thing you should do to prevent something called malwares. AND BTW, ONCE AGAIN I AM TELLING, ANTIVRUS ISNT NEEDED ON ANDROID, IT SLOWS OUR SYSTEM LIKE HELL :/

I used the couple of antiviruses and programs like that but they only slowed down my phone and i wouldnt recommend them at all.
Cheers
Go in the sea with tour clinic! Not that viruses (sylli ) .

As for a serious reply I would recommend Avast.
I didn`t really care for the antivirus, but for the anti-theft options. AV seemed to do it`s job, but I didn`t encounter any viruses.

oh, I know at least of two that aren't harmless: the flash-once-a-day-virus and the try-out-highly-experimental-stuff-trojan
But you won't need any antivirus software to avoid them - just stay away from xda

Hahaha.. sense of humour those viruses are attacked on my phones so often that if I go to to customer service they reject my phone for servicing XD mentioned viruses are just too dangerous everyone is scared into the people working at customer service.

I always knew that antivirus for android [linux] is not necessary
Since you know what you're doing and you have in mind that nowadays nothing is 100% secure even with antivirus
Avast antivirus looks good, especially for the Anti-theft part. I hope it tackles known malware though.
Ok tnks for the report bro .

[APP][Question] about android apps

hello everyone
ı have got one question and ı need to ask
ı installed avast antivirus into my galaxy w and avast is installed for 6 months but avast never found virus or something like that so far
moreover this app is eating 10-15 mb from my ram
do you think this app is really necessary or not? and does this app work perfectly?
so should ı remove avast or not?
ım waiting your answers
best regards
I personally had times when I used it for a few months and when I didn't, I have AVG installed on my phone right now but not used, it's greenified so it doesn't take up my ram but it's there just in case. It has never detected a virus when I was using it. I don't exactly know the answer though, doesn't seem needed if you stick to play store apps and not download any suspicious content, otherwise I would leave it installed just in case.
By the way, please use the Q&A section next time you have a question

Wrong section as Yeti said.
My set up was... and still is in my new phone... that I didn't use any antivirus.
I felt there was no point in there being any.
Im just used kaspersky for a while but now im not using because its not required (only waste of ram i think )

@sir mordred
i think antivirus apps are not doing so much!
because of that its not necessary
NO NEED FOR ANTIVIRUS AT ALL! TRUST ME. WASTE OF RAM!

It's the first time I don't buy top of samsung or iphone when I tried it or symbian, but I never had a phone not rooted or jailbreaked or not unblocked. I think nevermore... Why a bootloader blocked? Here we love to do something ourselves .. or receive good info from ours excellent developers.

the bootloader is locked for a reason to provide security, means you cannot accidentally damage your hardware by flashing anything on top

If you're not the only person to buy this phone, then I imagine there are other people besides yourself that don't want to be free to damage it. It's not all about you.
