For viruses on your willy I would recommend CONDOMS after a much needed visit to the clinic
R.V.3

Another topic of the same kind. Anyways as usual have to reply to it.
First of all, android doesnt have viruses as far as i know. There are 1 or 2 reported but are completely harmless. Yeah, malwares are there.
Prevention from malwares can be- you should know what you are downloading and from where. Use apps like pdroid/lbe security and droidwall to limit the access of app. This is the best thing you should do to prevent something called malwares. AND BTW, ONCE AGAIN I AM TELLING, ANTIVRUS ISNT NEEDED ON ANDROID, IT SLOWS OUR SYSTEM LIKE HELL :/

I used the couple of antiviruses and programs like that but they only slowed down my phone and i wouldnt recommend them at all.
Cheers

Go in the sea with tour clinic! Not that viruses (sylli ) .

As for a serious reply I would recommend Avast.
I didn`t really care for the antivirus, but for the anti-theft options. AV seemed to do it`s job, but I didn`t encounter any viruses.

oh, I know at least of two that aren't harmless: the flash-once-a-day-virus and the try-out-highly-experimental-stuff-trojan
But you won't need any antivirus software to avoid them - just stay away from xda

Hahaha.. sense of humour those viruses are attacked on my phones so often that if I go to to customer service they reject my phone for servicing XD mentioned viruses are just too dangerous everyone is scared into the people working at customer service.

I always knew that antivirus for android [linux] is not necessary
Since you know what you're doing and you have in mind that nowadays nothing is 100% secure even with antivirus

Avast antivirus looks good, especially for the Anti-theft part. I hope it tackles known malware though.

Ok tnks for the report bro .

It really is a non issue. Can you cite any viruses that have been released and affected phones?
Just check the permissions of apps and don't install fishy ones without doing a little research first.
I have Lookout on my phone. I guess its doing its job but there haven't been any viruses. The other reason I have it is if you lose your phone there is a phone locator feature using the Evo's gps.

Just give it time. It's a big untapped market out there.
I use AVG both on my phone, and my computer. On my Linux boxes I use ClamAV.
Do I Evan need one ?
I read at Sprint users forum & some said its just taking memory & not doing much .
Is it true ?

They all said pretty much the same thing " watch out for what you install " check remissions that's all .

linux is completely open-source with a MASSIVE community of support. there's no reason for there not to be virii floating around for linux and possibly even android.
Seems like all AVs do is check permission for ones that shouldn't be there.

I found them useless since it's never cleaned an "infected" file, just told me about them.

Just me..but why worry about viruses when one could have "root" and get your whole phone and all of the data and connection permissions on it to everything you connect to "in the cloud" and elsewhere.
A simple rogue app would do this and never be considered it a virus.. all you have to do is install it and give it su and it does it all. This isnt a windozes environment...we want it all.."root"...viruses are child play for windoze. my opinion.

And I was called fanboy...
I'm open minded. Before switching to android I read about android and wp7 (already familiar with symbian, wm 6.3 etc etc) and weighed up android was by far the best.
Not sure how I can be a fanboy before even trying the OS? As an IT systems engineer, I often have to compare products and decide on what's the best. Doesn't mean I am an acronis fan boy, or a HP storage works fan boy or quest fan boy... just because I believe them to be the best for the job by comparing them to other products.
Fan boys believe their product is the best for no reason. Without comparison or even exposure. It's best because they can't believe they could possibly be wrong about their product or could have made a bad decision. This is not me. Funny that others didn't think that about me when I said I like WP7, which resulted into instant "you're an WP7 fanboy". Sorry to misjudge you, but you can understand why I thought that.
P.S.: Are we talking about WP7.5 here?
I dunno, I ended up liking my focus much better than my atrix. Then again, I still like my old Inspire more than my atrix, lol.

To everyone that commented rudely in reply to this guys post.. YOU can go learn to read and write. Telling someone else that they are not good at something is a very good indicator that you are lacking in something yourself. Next time, instead of stopping your oh so important lives to be disrespectful, go stick your phone where the sun doesn't shine and leave others alone.

I think a lot of your information is outdated, for example Visionary is extremely outdated for most of the firmwares that's out now. The method outlined in the XDA Wiki as well as the Cyanogenmod Wiki is proven to work without fail (with the assumption that the end user actually follows the instructions to the letter).
The one click method tends to have problems and ends up in here for help, and far as hearing about it, normally hear complaints about their phone being bricked and how to fix it, they don't go into details exactly on "how" they bricked it, just that they whine and whine to unbrick it.
PS: I wish there was a way to remove an accidental thanks.
Well true there are some bad one click softs out there thats why i recommended what i have tried without problems........the fact that some are bad does not make dem all bad if only we bring up those that have bricked phones and those that helped cos not anybody has it easy with the XDA method by the way i recommend what i have tried so trust me what will i get by bricking someones phone (same module and and it worked)
PS:giving back your thanks.....

But of course with lack of information (ie: what phone did you have, what firmware was it at, was it originally Froyo, etc?), people attempting to do the same tends to cause problems.
Though in my opinion, if you can't handle the method outlined in the XDA wiki (which will work with any version of the phone, including instructions for making a gold card), then it's probably not the best idea to even attempt having a rooted phone.
