Where have the Mods & Admins gone?? - About xda-developers.com

Just curious but I have sent PMs and emails to XDA moderators and administrators with zero responses. Every time I check the online status for all moderators/administrators almost all are offline.
Questions....
1) What good are moderators if they are never online?? It shouldn't be this hard to get a few questions answered on XDA.
2) Does XDA need more moderators that can be active on the forums? How does one go about applying for this?
Thanks.

XDA has plenty of moderators. There are Forum Specific Moderators in every Device Forum. Additionally there are Senior Moderators. However, Senior Moderators, The Moderator Committee Members and Admins are very busy. They many not be intentionally ignoring you. But Most have lives outside of XDA and are not online all the time. Sometime Mods go away for the weekend or on holiday. I'm sorry about your bad luck for apparently picking those moderators.

I did email an administrator but before that it has been PMs to the forum specific moderators.

Certainly, The Admin gets hundreds of emails a day. So I'm sure he will respond in the order in which It was received.

i have to agree, sometimes it seems we cannot move for moderators, and other times it's like a where's wally book (mostly when you need one) not that i have a problem, just having my 2 cents

response to Admins and shane6374 on clone post

Hey I like how you three flamed me on a CLOSED thread (yet left it up) so that I couldn't respond to your comments. Isn't that a bit cowardly. Uh, the answer to that question is YES.
To the guy who is so thanked, if you look at anything other than the "post edited" line on my original question and somehow compared it to the original post, you would see that I changed grammar and spelling and clarified and amplified. I did not change it in response to your 'help.' So suck it, huh?
To the admins who closed the thread but also couldn't help taking pot shots at me and who comment on how the that other guy has so many contributions, I obviously noticed that. However I stand by my comments there. That guy is not a moderator and he did not directly address my question. There are many posts with no responses to them, and he should have just kept quiet until admins acted. I do not know that guy from a hole in the wall so I did not appreciate his 'answers.' I wrote in the thread that if an admin closed the thread then fine.
And you ADMINS DID close it and I of course have no problem with that. However I DO have a problem with people typing snide comments and then being too chicken to allow me to respond in kind.
ALSO, one the the stickys say that such posts will be deleted without notice. So why the asinine snide remarks instead of merely deleting the thread? Are you trying to show Sprint that you take such questions seriously and close the threads? Because otherwise you SHOULD have followed you OWN RULES and deleted the thread without notice.
Oh and I DID do a google search before posting and did not see an answer to this specific question. If you'd like you could put your money where your mouth is and email me some examples because I think you are full of it on this.
I hope you feel embarrassed at breaking your own rules and also for making such chicken**** comments essentially from behind a fortress wall. I assume you are all younger than say 15 years old.
PS I edited for grammar and sentence structure and to clarify again. duh, you, huh?
Seriously? You are blaming the guy who offered gentle advice on what not to be discussed for the timing of the head Mod closing the thread? Instead of just letting the guy leave you flamed him back again? You really should reread your post and look in a mirror. We are all here to try to help each other. I am sure this thread will get closed soon so I guess you will be blaming me next.

He did not leave. In fact he flamed ME last (and was incorrect in his assumptions). Admins did not allow me to respond. And gentle advice that does not answer the question? Why does it matter if it is gentle, it just adds to a thread that otherwise should have been empty until the people in charge dealt with it. Speaking of which, this was specifically addressed to certain people, not you.
Also, those last jibes were made in such a way to prevent me from responding to them which is cowardly, yes?
Also if your read the Epic4g to Boost Mobile data thread you will see that I solved an issue and posted the answer. It is an unusual problem so perhaps people don't run into it too much but it is still a solved problem, so I try to contribute as well.
AND not only do I 'thank' users but I also donate $ to themer's, ROM'ers etc.
Words of advice ...
Posting a complaint thread about a moderator's actions will most likely result in account infractions or suspension.
I highly recommend you send a PM to another moderator or post in this thread asking for a senior moderator to investigate the actions taken.
As an admin and moderator for many other sites, posting a thread like this is likely to result in even worse punishment than a few remarks. Concerns about moderator or staff actions should be taken up with a higher ranking member in private. As an admin, I would have properly chewed them out over the comments they made in a closed thread when the case was closed. But with this thread being created, I'd more likely ban you and be done with it as it only seeks to cause more harm than good.
In the end, I still agree that he was only trying to point out that you broke the rules. Trolling about it is just a waste of time.
*Sniffs*
Mmm, I can just smell the banwich being prepared for this guy.
Sent from the future.
OP, all you needed to do was change the of that thread, but instead you decided it would be better to start a flame war with me that you should have know that wouldn't end in your favor.
As far as the thread getting close and being left up. I had nothing to do with that. The thread was open for over 3 hours after my last post. Another thing i was doing in your thread was trying to prevent some other user that might not know the rules from replying to you with a link or any info on how to do hat you were asking and earning a ban themselves by trying to help, but breaking the rules.
As far as us being a bunch of 15 year olds, you are way off in that assumption.
To the guy who is so thanked, if you look at anything other than the "post edited" line on my original question and somehow compared it to the original post, you would see that I changed grammar and spelling and clarified and amplified. Who's the 15 year old?
Enjoy the ban you are sure to get from this thread.
Actually it is more like a 6 year old throwing a tantrum..."I didn't get to flame back" and that is the basis for this whine in the wrong sub-forum no less.
Please delete this useless thread mods.

Damn! Why is this thread still open and not deleted? What a whiny OP. Is he really mad because he didn't get the last word before mods closed the thread because he was too whiny and flaming there too? And then blame the others in the thread because it was taking him 3 hours to come up with an "Oh yeah?" Wow!
Get on the Ban wagon!
In before the lock! lol I always wanted to do that ;-)

When I closed the thread, I made no "snide" remarks. I gave a reason why the thread was being closed. Just like this one.
If you have a problem with a forum moderator, contact the forum admin.

somewhat disturbed by XDA

and how they have been censoring, deleting, and banning, for the dumbest reasons (or none at all).
Stop locking threads and pruning the opinions out of your followers and developers.
Things in this part of the web should be open discussion, open minded, and free sharing of Ideas, content (not copyrighted). That's what makes open sourced people who we are.
stop closing things in.
You have already lost some really good developers, and your reputation has lowered.
SMH at how things have been moderated around here.
rant over.

Calm down Mate..
I know what you are feeling now. But just think on behalf of XDA too.
Every community have few rules and regulations which must be followed. Coz without of that, structures of that community is like a body without Bones. So, If banning is against the rules you may contact any member of Sr. MOD or any member of MOD committee or direct to Moderator committee after that. Even you aren't fully satisfied with the decisions of both of the above, you may contact Admin directly using PM.
Open Source is Android and to protect the Open source meaning we have GPL.
So, In the last I would say, In XDA, We learn more than sharing. But sharing must not overwhelming than learning.. Rules are Rules and must be followed at any conditions. But I know, Changing is everything, and for any suggestion you may Write here.
Hope I help you.. Pls revert if you are still in fix..
We don't ban, moderate or delete for no reason. It's only done if something or someone breaks our rules.
If it looks like we're doing this to censor opinions, it's usually because those type of threads turn into troll and flame wars. And I speak from experience.
if you think we do it because we have nothing better to do, you're very much mistaken. We try to let things go on their own as long as possible, but too many times, moderator intervention is required to stop things getting out of control.

You have to learn that while most of the moderators here are halfway decent, some have nothing better to do than to piss people off. If you were the victim of that, xda has no sympathy for you. I've seen what you're describing happen some time ago, but you'll just have to fly low and try to avoid it. If your posts are deleted, you'll just have to spend more time re-explaining the context in the thread in question where your posts were deleted. That's just the way it goes.
Best of luck.

The OT threads were closed because they became a haven for 10 post spammers, not because the mods were killing your fun.

[Q] Now that the root threads have been locked

Should we communicate new ideas and attempts via PMS or email? Did someone have an open thread elsewhere on xda? I check multiple times daily and have been attempting to learn and contribute. .since I am a noob I am typically quiet but I am down to test fur people if need be.
Dude dont even try it , leave it alone , to many emotional people in xda

This is a legitimate question for the q/a forum...if they choose to lock it that is their prerogative. I have never made any trouble on this site...there is little reason. This post is not meantt to be inflammatory, I just genuinely want to know if XDAS part in our quest for root is over or not...I am not breaking any forum rules in posting this.
So do people still plan to work on the note 4 using this forum or is there somewhere else I should be focusing my attention to?

Because of the nonsense that goes on in root threads, no developer in their right mind will post any efforts in one of the threads in General. This is why developers have taken their efforts off of XDA and in private chats...and now no one learns anything here.
And no, you are not breaking rules by asking but you opened a thread where all the non-helping people from the other threads will have a place to go. So I am sure they will be quite proud to post something here to get this locked too.
Now Root will never be achieved, sadly.

Yes. Because closing a thread full of people with nothing better to do than post "are we there yet" and then start flaming each other will totally stop all work on root. Smh....I guess you didn't even bother to read my post above.

As Kenny stated here. This is the best course to take. We know most of you guys think we are being jerks, but the bottom line is that thread is/was and would continue to be out of hand. Just because that thread is locked for now, does not mean devs are going to stop collaborating and find a method.

Whoa, excuse me . I read your post and found no value in it. I merely made a statement (not even remotely regarding your profound post.) We paid a substantial amount of money for this phone. I also paid for the stupid XDA premium app to support the XDA community. I also have contributed much money to many devs in the past for previous phones I've owned. I believe I have a right to be kept in the know. Whether the know is what exploit developers are using to find root or useless banter from idiotic foreigners and newbs who have no idea what is going on is completely regardless. It's a public forum. The thread was posted in the general section. There was no warning in the title that it was a "Dev thread only." It wasn't just the idiots who were posting dumb comments, it was a lot of the ATT Note 4 Community that would post 4-5 replies after the "are we there yet?" posts that got the thread shut down. I enjoyed the thread, I learned a lot about exploits that I wouldn't have ever thought to research on my own. It was purely entertainment for me and it was taken away because the moderation can never handle anything properly.
Bridge is closed, troll. Go shake your head somewhere else. Nomsayin?

First off as Senior Moderator and Team Leader of this section, I AM NO TROLL! You certainly failed to comprehend my post and have some reading comprehension problems. YOUR post had absolutely no value and made no sense that a closed troll filled thread would stop you from getting root! Wow...just wow.
Now if you had read my post correctly I stated there IS an area for developers ONLY where people can see what is going on and not disturb the developers with useless posts like "Now we will never get root" or "Are we there yet". Try reading the original post a few times...then before you respond read it again. Feel free to take this to PM with me if you have any more criticisms of the avenues presented on this PRIVATE membership only development forum.

Private?! OK buddy. I could have 4 accounts to this "private" forum in 5 mins. You guys give any moron a membership. You guys even made it easier for morons to join by making them watch a video rather than actually reading the rules before signing up. This is dumb. I have lost interest in all doings on this forum. Thanks for the boost of support from the Mod team. Did you have to watch a video before becoming a mod? Cheers.

Questions & Answers

Can we please keep posts to helping answer questions.
If you dont have a positive possible solution, don't respond within the thread.
Let's keep the forum to what its meant to be.
No Trolling. No Arguing. No Accusations.
Fairly sure we already have a Q&A forum..... and we're already in it
And fairly sure those points are already in the XDA Rules, if you have a problem with someone, hit report and let a mod deal with it, no-one likes a member trying to police other members as if they were staff

Just making this thread to begin with was pointless, and only creates unnecessary clutter in the forum.

As has been already been mentioned, XDA rules encompass what is expected of it's members. If you see something inappropriate, report it plain and simple, and a member of our ever diligent Moderator Staff will handle it. Thank you for your cooperation, and have a good day.

auditing moderator intervention

When a moderator scrubs a thread, are the removed posts collected somewhere other users can review them?
I have seen a few notices of moderator intervention. I am curious whether I would agree with the decision. I wonder whether the people whose posts were removed have an option to appeal.
Regular users will not be able to see what has been removed no.
Ideally there should always be a notice that posts have been removed, either publicly in the thread or with a private message. That way, a user can always contact the moderator in question and discuss what happened. An appeal, of sorts...
If a user feels that it is not possible to communicate with the moderator that has taken action against them it is always possible to contact the Moderator Committee (this is also linked in the contacts page under Complain about a moderator), or if they prefer any other moderator that they trust. A list of moderators and their roles (the Member Liaison comes to mind for cases like this) can be found here (this list can be reached from the forum rules).
