From what I heard, the speaker dock mutes the dock speakers when you plug in via HDMI. (Someone modded the dock to create a switch so that the HDMI cable can still be plugged in while sound could come out the dock speakers)

This one is the same thing as the speaker dock minus the speakers. Is this what you're looking for? $43.40 from Amazon.

That doesn't have HDMI out AFAIK, which is what the OP wants.

oops! I'm glad you pointed that out. I assumed it did; considering the price I would have thought it at least basically functional.... I was going to get one in the next few days! This thing is pretty ridiculous, then; a $40 charging station with audio pass-through? Can't wait for the knock-offs to start coming out.
So, now my question is the same as the OP! Anyone see anything cheaper that does HDMI out?

How about an adapter that provides a regular 12V DC jack for charging and a 3.5mm stereo mini jack for output to the car stereo AUX input?
Now that WOULD be useful. Maybe the Brodit active mount provides something like that?

Almost. If I was being picky (which I am I'd say the second USB port makes it a bit bulky. Ideally it would just have 1 USB and 1 3.5mm jack.
No rush though. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more.

Microphone lost
Hi, I've bought a splitter from here: http://www.valuemax.co.uk/product_details.php?id=7184
It works fine but I've lost the microphone feature when answering calls.
Does anyone have any idea what pin-out wire I need to modify and attach and external mic?
Thanks Paul

cord for connecting EVO to car's Line Out

Would a place like Radio Shack have a cord that would connect my EVO to my Mustang's Line In port so I can listen to my .mp3's?
Walmart, Radio Shack, Best Buy all them should have them.
I can custom make one for you if you'd like. 3.5 feet long. $20 shipped in the USA.
Canare microphone cable, nylon sheathing.
I can get pics of the one I have pre-made later tonight.
I get all my cables at monoprice.com
They are by far the cheapest and I have never had a problem with any that I've ordered. Shipping is quick too. Click "cable" at the top and then "Audio Cables - RCA / 3.5mm" on the left. You are looking for "3.5mm Stereo Plug/Plug M/M Cable - 6ft or 12ft or 25ft or 50ft" A 6 foot cable will run you .65, yes 65 cents. Might as well grab a couple extra micro usb cables for a buck or so each and an HDMI adapter for your Evo.

+1 for monoprice
I get all my cables from there, can't beat the prices. A couple weeks ago I bought a 6' RCA to 3.5mm cable from them for about $2. A shorter, cheaper version of the same cable at RS was about $15.

i got my cable from amazon i think. it was like $5 and comes with a line-in microphone. it's great 'cause i can listen to music, when a call comes in answer and just talk as the microphone picks up my voice very well, and keep going, without having to unplug the line-in to speak (which will happen if you use the line-in without a microphone!)

If the mustang has SYNC just use the bluetooth audio it works great and you can even change tracks from the steering wheel. Otherwise any 3.5mm m/m cable will work fine.

I use a cable without a microphone, but since I have a car mount I can just talk and the phone picks up my voice just fine, and I hear the other line over my speakers.
I drive a MINI and had an issue with the auxillary in port of the headunit, as it wouldn't recognize my phone was attached when I was also charging my phone at the same time, due to some kind of ground loop issue. I got the Kensington noise reduction cable from amazon (you can use any ground loop isolator circuit, the cable I got just looks nicer) and this problem was fixed.

Need this cable: Micro USB to 3.5mm & USB splitter

Dear awesome community,
For the past month or more I've been trying to find a place where they sell Mirco-USB to 3.5mm/USB cables, but I have come to no success whatsoever!
Is such cable impossible to make? Or am I just looking in the wrong places.
Check out the attached picture that I've created to show what I need and mean.
It looks simple, right? Now, I would love to get one of these at any price.

Well, instead of having two wires coming out of my Note (Top and bottom) while I'm driving, a cable like this well have only one wire coming out from under the phone, cutting on clutter and annoying wires.
must be out there

That's totally proprietary. The phone that that is made for probably doesn't even have a 3.5mm jack.

Well.. sorry to be a troll. However, you started this thread conveniently assuming that Headphone output through MicroUSB port of Note will work? Its not an HTC phone which has headset support.
May I know the reason for your ASSUMPTION that it would work even if you get the cable?
Your best bet for a single plug into your phone would probably be to use an MHL>HDMI adapter, and then get another adapter to convert from HDMI audio to 3.5mm.
That would be rather clunky though. HDMI > Anything (that isn't DVI) converters are going to run you at least about $40 for a start, and they aren't small either (probably not much smaller than the phone itself .) And they are externally-powered, so you'd need to provide power to both the MHL dongle and the HDMI converter, so it'd be super untidy.
You could do it though.
But you're probably better off using Bluetooth.

My assumption comes from the fact that there is a "docking" option in the system settings of the Galaxy Note, meaning that there is support for docking stations and probably audio output for them.
I'm not saying that the Note is the only and first phone to have it, I'm just wondering if there are such cables out there and if such thing possible to be made through Micro USB.
I had an iPhone almost 2 years ago and such cable was available easily and it did really help in my car setup, and since the Note has the same slot setup of my old iPhone I would really like to know if a cable like that is somewhere out there.

Well, looking at this car docking station...
(Link not allowed. Search for "Genuine Samsung Galaxy Note Vehicle Dock - ECS-K1E1BEGSTD" on MobileFun)
...it clearly shows a "speaker line out" socket in one of the photos, with only one connector (i.e. the micro USB connector) attaching to the phone.
So it is most certainly possible.
Hmmm, the both the official desktop dock and car dock have a 3.5mm audio out. It seems unlikely that there would be a USB DAC in the docks themselves, which suggests that analogue audio is being piped out the microUSB port on the phone itself.
Of course, the OP could just buy the official car dock to get nice tidy cabling...
If i understood the purpose of this cable, it would be:
For example:
My car supports audio input so the purpose of a cable like this would be to stream music to my car audio system and recharge de phone like a all-in-one right?

Very Interested in this as well. OEM dock wont work with a case. So this would be a great alternative paired with a car cradle such as this.

I too really want one of these.
It is obviously possible as the destop & car dock do this.
The only way is, for someone with some electronics knowledge to pull one of these apart to see how its done. It would be interesting to see if it is straight audio out, or if there is a "Digital to Analogue Converter in there"

This might do the trick in the unlikely case that Note's microusb outputs audio. Tough I'm really interested in knowing for sure if the Galaxy Note microusb pumps line level audio.
Judging by the price of the desktop dock i wouldn't bet my money on the idea that it has not a dac. I
Use Bluetooth.

http://www.samsung.com/us/video/home-theater/DA-E651/ZA
I've seen them in the stores in the UK for about £ 180.00 (Currys, Comet, etc)
Sound quality is awesome, and I'm probably gonna get one at some stage. Charges the phone via USB but audio is either via Bluetooth or All share WiFi.
I'm waiting for a dock with usb audio. I could put up with Bluetooth, but won't bother plugging in to the headphone jack. But like I said I think I will wait, I hope there will be a few options by Christmas.

Cheaper Audio Dock Alternative

Hey everyone, I've been searching for a cheaper alternative to the expensive desktop dock samsung sells. It will mostly be used as a clean audio out for speakers and headphones, charging and sync would be a plus. Does anyone know of a good alternative out there? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
im no pro at this, but it seems like the best kinda thing is gonna have to use the 3 mm audio jack as a trick to do it.
as an example, if you ebay "Loud Stereo Dock Station Speaker for iPod iPhone 3G/4 4S MP3 Android Phone 3.5MM"
I have a digital AV Receiver with HDMI inputs and bought the HDMI dock from Samsung for less then 15€. The digital audio signal via HDMI can be used even without video output.

Yea that's basically what I'm looking for, a dock with 3.5mm audio out and has the ability to charge + sync would be nice. I actually found a cheap 10$ one on ebay and a 30$ one on amazon from samsung themselves which isn't too bad, both that claim to do just that, so we'll see. I would post links but the forum wont let me until l I have 10 posts. Apparently there's an app that will allow me to use the usb audio out function straight from the phone which would be awesome, then I can bring in a DAC and amp into the mix.

Yea I thought of that as well, and I may get one of those too to hook up to my hdtv but as for speakers and headphones the 3.5mm audio out would be key
