Dear awesome community,
For the past month or more I've been trying to find a place where they sell Mirco-USB to 3.5mm/USB cables, but I have come to no success whatsoever!
Is such cable impossible to make? Or am I just looking in the wrong places.
Check out the attached picture that I've created to show what I need and mean.
It looks simple, right? Now, I would love to get one of these at any price.
Help me!

Well, instead of having two wires coming out of my Note (Top and bottom) while I'm driving, a cable like this well have only one wire coming out from under the phone, cutting on clutter and annoying wires.
must be out there
heres something similar but is mini usb which is no good.

That's totally proprietary. The phone that that is made for probably doesn't even have a 3.5mm jack.

Well.. sorry to be a troll. However, you started this thread conveniently assuming that Headphone output through MicroUSB port of Note will work? Its not an HTC phone which has headset support.
May I know the reason for your ASSUMPTION that it would work even if you get the cable?
Your best bet for a single plug into your phone would probably be to use an MHL>HDMI adapter, and then get another adapter to convert from HDMI audio to 3.5mm.
That would be rather clunky though. HDMI > Anything (that isn't DVI) converters are going to run you at least about $40 for a start, and they aren't small either (probably not much smaller than the phone itself .) And they are externally-powered, so you'd need to provide power to both the MHL dongle and the HDMI converter, so it'd be super untidy.
You could do it though.
But you're probably better off using Bluetooth.

My assumption comes from the fact that there is a "docking" option in the system settings of the Galaxy Note, meaning that there is support for docking stations and probably audio output for them.
I'm not saying that the Note is the only and first phone to have it, I'm just wondering if there are such cables out there and if such thing possible to be made through Micro USB.
I had an iPhone almost 2 years ago and such cable was available easily and it did really help in my car setup, and since the Note has the same slot setup of my old iPhone I would really like to know if a cable like that is somewhere out there.

Well, looking at this car docking station...
(Link not allowed. Search for "Genuine Samsung Galaxy Note Vehicle Dock - ECS-K1E1BEGSTD" on MobileFun)
...it clearly shows a "speaker line out" socket in one of the photos, with only one connector (i.e. the micro USB connector) attaching to the phone.
So it is most certainly possible.
Hmmm, the both the official desktop dock and car dock have a 3.5mm audio out. It seems unlikely that there would be a USB DAC in the docks themselves, which suggests that analogue audio is being piped out the microUSB port on the phone itself.
Of course, the OP could just buy the official car dock to get nice tidy cabling...
If i understood the purpose of this cable, it would be:
For example:
My car supports audio input so the purpose of a cable like this would be to stream music to my car audio system and recharge de phone like a all-in-one right?

Very Interested in this as well. OEM dock wont work with a case. So this would be a great alternative paired with a car cradle such as this.

I too really want one of these.
It is obviously possible as the destop & car dock do this.
The only way is, for someone with some electronics knowledge to pull one of these apart to see how its done. It would be interesting to see if it is straight audio out, or if there is a "Digital to Analogue Converter in there"

This might do the trick in the unlikely case that Note's microusb outputs audio. Tough I'm really interested in knowing for sure if the Galaxy Note microusb pumps line level audio.
Judging by the price of the desktop dock i wouldn't bet my money on the idea that it has not a dac. I

USB adapter. I just love the Elf phone. The only things I am disappointed in is that I cannot plug in a set of external speakers. I cannot plug in to the charger whilst watching a film as I need the socket for the headphones...
Does anyone know of an adapter to enable me to do this please? I could get one made up from the diagram, however I would prefer to buy a custom made one.

maybe something like this?

The Elf has only a USB socket, nothing else... No phono or whatever they call it... For me this is the only fault with a superb little phone.
Thanks anyway.
dont know about the elf but all other newer htc devices have a special usb connector which also carry audio
if your device came with a headset then yours do too
as they device dont support usb host so it cant use any usb devices

3Way USB adapter for HTC Touch/Elf
There is in fact a 3 way adapter available. I found it after a bit of a search. For some reason some of you seemed to think I was looking for a headset. The USB socket on the HTC Touch does not allow you to use anything else other than the supplied USB headset. however I want to use a set of Sony speakers for the sound to play MP3's and as I like to watch films in bed through ORB I like to be able to charge the phone at the same time. The process uses a lot of battery power.
The adapter I found has a stereo jack socket and 2 USB sockets the same as the one on the phone. So now I can plug in my head set and charger or charger and speakers in any form I choose.
If anyone else is interested here is a link where you can buy one for about £12.00 which includes postage: http://www.elitextreme.com/htcto31ad.html
The pictures show what I was talking about...

Thanks for the find, but will it work even if it's for the TyTN and not specifically for the Touch?
And is it stereo as opposed to just mono?
i would asume that htc dont change the wireing of their miniusb connector flavour with each device it would serve no purpos and would cost alot for htc
i would asume that if stereo is in the miniusb connector when used for normal wired headset it would be using that converter
as it would serve no purpos for the converter to add the eletronics it would require to just take 1 channel and spit it in 2 without lowering the the volume to ½ because of the impedanc
Well, I've searched the forums and web and I can't seem to find a extUSB extension cable.
I found links for a male connector that requires soldering but there is no female connector to directly make an extension.
Does anyone one know where to locate a extUSB mini extension cable? I might end up having break out my old soldering iron otherwise.
I've never seen one...
There are the two male plugs on Sparkfun, but I haven't seen a female connector. Possibly pirate one from an old/broken phone on eBay?
Or, depending on what you're wanting to extend, get an adaptor (there's one on Amazon that this new user can't link to) and use a standard mini USB. But you'd lose some functionality, of course.
unless you really need to carry the audio then a normal usb extension cable would work just fine

Actually, audio and power are what I am looking to extend. This is to have one cable going to my car cradle while keeping everything else tucked away. I just ordered a couple extUSB data sync cables and a couple 3 in one adaptors for cheap on eBay. I plan on cutting and splicing the two cables together and then shrink wrapping the joint.
Hopefully all goes well. If so, I'll post some pics and the info used in making them.

3in1 11 PIN ExtUSB Earphone Handsfree Adapter for HTC
Finally appeared on eBay what I was looking for a long time!!
I think that is the same that you are looking for!
http://cgi.ebay.com/3in1-11-PIN-Ext...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item3cabfd9d0b
Now I will not have a lot of wires apparent in the dashboard of my car!
not yet tested, I just bought!
Please let us know how long the cable is - thanks
Hi guys.
I bought 2 of them.
I'm using thet extension on my car, but when I connect to the USB power jacket, audio is affected by an annoying drone noise...
Of course audio backs perfect unplugging the power cable...
How to fix this?
Thanks!
I so far have not received my extension! But it should be on the way, because I live in Brazil and the request is coming from China.
At the moment I use an HTC adapter (http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Audio-Adapt...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item27b1f6236b) and I also have the same audio problem when I'm charging my phone in the car. Sometimes it gets very loud and sometimes becomes very low distortion. I found that helps a lot if you leave the phone's volume low and increase the volume of your car sound. Sound distortion is less so.
Once I saw here in the forum someone recommending a audio filter but I can not find the thread that had the link, but basically that's what we need.
If you find a solution please post here!
When I get my extension I will test and post the results here too!
I also have that original HTC adapter, I bought it before.
With the adapter I have no noise, it's only difficult to raise 2 cable to the phone...
Otherwise, I think the filter is the only solution.
Could you try to remember any detail to search for it?
Check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-377996.html , it's exactly what we have to fix...
My extension just arrived! In this second!
Using the HTC adapter you do not have any noise? I have sometimes and sometimes not!
Anyway I think we need something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Peripheral-PA...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275345446&sr=1-3

http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-Audio-SNI-1...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c54bd2a89
Let's keep in touch until we solve it! I'll test my extension and post the result here.
Hi Devs,
first of all, sorry for starting a new thread, but searched the forum and didn't find exactly that.
Like I've read, there is no audio over USB support built-in to our mighty Desire.
I tried a few different microUSB to 3.5mm jack adapters from ebay - even one declared as for HTC Desire. Checked the usb-pins-assignment also and it seems that HTC hasn't built in (or turned off) that function in opposite to some other manufacturers.
So will it be possible to write a rom or a kernel, that'll support that?
If it is possible, I would appreciate a few hints what I'll have to do, to get this thing working!
Thanks in advance!
Can I know why you need that? Is it for A/V out?

Its not possible to send analog audio signal over the usb since its a standard usb plug. Only the old htc phones with extUSB had audio, but its was a bigger plug with more pins.
On that note i dont get why you want to get audio from there, when theres a nice 3.5mm jack socket on the top of the phone.

Yes, since there are no music docks for desire I built my own and it has to be possible, other phones with microUSB have that function - why not ours?
I know the old extUSB plug from my magic, there it is no problem. But there must be a way to get this working! I think it is only a software and/or driver issue.
If you'll get a music dock you'll have to plugin the phone + jack everytime? ? ? Look on ebay there are a few universal docks over microUSB, but not working for the nearly best and most sold android phone on market?
Pls give me some hints if there is a way to do that - everything is possible!

Umm, well not really. Because who says that the USB port of your phone is connected the right way internally to actually SEND data over the cable/dock.
I have no idea on how to do it. Thats just what I think, but with Android, a LOT is possible

YEAH IT IS!
On Nexus one they built in extra pins for docking and audio over that works like a charm.
I'm having a few adapters microUSB to 3.5mm jack for Motorola,Samsung,Nokia...phones from ebay, but not one reaction from Desire
Maybe the adapter for Desire needs a Digital-to-analog converter to get analog audio out of the microUSB port.
But no technical details over that from HTC - does anyone know more about the microUSB connections on our Desire? Tried to get a technical manual for Desire, but no chance on google...
If there is no other solution, I'll have to disassemble my expensive Desire to get a view on connections and maybe some hints which IC is managing the microUSB.
Does any dev know what would be possible by modding a kernel or rom?
Thanks in advance!

any solution?
Ability to stream out the audio through USB would be something nice to have.
There's a guide online on how to splice a USB and 3.5mm cable to the Apple USB cord so that you can charge and play audio on ipod accessories, as long as you don't mind having USB and audio plugged in at the same time. http://www.erwanmace.com/2012/07/ipod-dock-android/
Hi,
I want to have only 1 plug to insert in the Samsung Galaxy S2 to have:
- Audio output
- AND power charging
This is possible by using the micro-usb port of the Samsung Galaxy S2.
This is how the official Samsung docks works: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D1D3BEGSTA )
But I am not looking for a dock, I just want a cable ! (it is much more convenient than a dock)
This cable would be like this:
Code:
|---------> Audio output jack
Micro-USB <---|
|---------> Standard USB (type A)
Where can I buy such a cable ?
Regards, Chris
I guess you have to make one yourself. It shouldn't be too difficult.
You just have to solder a 365K resistor to the ID pin of the micro usb plug. Then solder The data pins and the ground pin to a 3.5mm socket. At last you need to solder the +5V pin and the ground pin to the USB plug.
I have to say I like the Idea of such a cable, I think i'm goibg to make one.
I got the official vehicle dock and the sound coming from the line out isn't so good compared to the headphone jack. I'm wondering if the components within the dock is to blame or the phone itself (kernel?)
If the OP does find a cable that does the job I'd be keen to know how it turns out.

The quality should be good, as Samsung is selling a docking stations to output the sound on a hifi system. Bad sound quality is not noticeable on basic headphones, but on a hifi system that would be catastrophic (so Samsung would not sell docking stations).

You need an amp to improve the sound from the line out since it is unfiltered and not treated through the phone's yamaha pre amp.

Ahh, the cmoy, very cool headphone amp. I have a DIY AMB mini3 with an Alien dac connected to my computer. Now with the info from this thread, I really want line out! Though I must admit, 2.3.5 with poweramp sounds really good.
Ok the Cable is finished, when plugging the cable in the phone automatically enters dock mode and outputs audio via the micro-USB port.
Quality is OK I guess (I will compare it to the quality of the 3.5mm headphone-jack output), but keep in mind that I'm not an audiophile .
The build quality of my cable is not great, but it was more or less just a proof of concept.

That looks very promising, thank you for sharing!
Keep in mind, line out is unfilter, unamp audio output, so the sound will sound a bit bland. One must plug an amp into it to "color" the sound.
Good on you, wurzelsepp3. As for the audio quality between the headphone jack and line out I'm pretty sure you'll notice it but it shouldn't be a problem if you just want the functionality.
I just tested the cmoy amp in my car and it sounds good now.

Can you post how you built it ? I am not good at electronics.
I guess you have taken:
- a USB (type A) cable
- a jack cable
- and a micro-USB
and then cut all of them to just keep the plugs. But then how did you joined the different cables together and how did you installed the resistor ?

Yes the only difference between car and desk-dock mode is the resistor value.
1) Yes the USB-plugs only purpose in this setup is to supply power, so any charger will do the job
2) Yes, but you have to keep in mind that the sund coming out of the micro usb port isn't amplified, so sound quality and volume are rather low, so you might wanna use an external headphone amplifier
3) Yes, as car and external audio systems have a amplifier it should work quite well.
Would something like this work?

Best thing to do is buy an AC> DC power inverter for your vehicle. I use one to charge my note 2. They turn the 12v cigg lighter into a 120v wall outlet.

This is one thing that sucks on newer devices. I remember on my HTC Touch Pro and TP2 you could just plug into your deck using the rca inputs. It was nice to be able to play stuff off your phone directly to the monitor.
Plus because I kept the cables in my car, it was easy to take in a house and plug in and play videos and pictures. I did this all the time for my Grams, to show her my little ones. She was never into newer HD tv's lol. Oh well, I'm sure HDMI connections will be really available on decks before you know it.

Yeah I have seen some, but I mean it's not quite mainstream yet. At least not enough for me to switch out decks! Lol

You can find plenty of HDMI to RCA adapters on the internet. The problem is that HDMI is a digital signal, and RCA is analog. And from your picture, your device is looking for an analog signal. Hence, you need to get something to convert the HDMI signal into an Analog one. They exist, but are not cheap. The cheap ones, not used, are $200. Require a power source. And we haven't even touched is the phone's video output going to be accepted by the stereo's video input. If the video output doesn't match--resolution and refresh rate--you're not going to have a picture. On PCs, you can these settings in the video control center or use special applications. For Android, I don't think they exists because the TVs with HDMI are new enough that a designed to accept the video phones are putting out; the phone are also designed to output video HDTV will accept.
Never mind you'll still need some kind of car charger to power the HML adapter. In my experience, using your phone and HML, will drain your battery, although slower because it doesn't need all the 2.0mha the charger puts out, but doesn't give the phone enough power to maintain it's current charge status.
The other issue, it's hard to find converters for HDMI to composite RCA. Not many people are in demand for them since a lot of the old TVs that only had those inputs are gone. They exists though.
That all said, my question would be exactly what applicaitons or tasks are you trying to don on your GN2 though your car deck? If it's just play music or audio into it, If so, then just get a 3.5mm to RCA cable. They can be purchased for a couple dollars. Here's a link for Monoprice.com: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218. Just make sure you get a male to male version. There are options as well, depending your car deck. If it has a casette deck, you can get 3.5mm caasette adapter. If you want more robust, you can get a 3.5mm FM car cigarette transmitter such as Coby CA 745; the problem is you need to have a clear FM station, which can change depending on your geographical location. I like that model because you can change FM to be used, and has cigarette charge port. The benefit, you're not dependent on the car having any kind of audio output ports, or cassette player.
If you're wanting to play video, ie use the mirroring function of the phone, I'm thinking you be much better served with a newer car deck that can support HDMI video in. Heck, depending on the screensize of you deck, it may be better just to get a car dock for the GN2 and just send the audio through your car stereo. Another alternative, use the Wifi hotspot function of the GN2 and use a tablet. I'm not saying I've ever used the GN2 to use Google Navigation and my 10" tablet to have NHL Center Ice going while driving to a meeting an hour away, but you can see how it can be done:
I've seen some pretty creative mounting methods use with the Nexus 7.

Yea thanks for your input. I was just about to order this http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...l?ie=UTF8&colid=&coliid=&me=&qid=&seller=&sr=
and this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A9H30LU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and see if i can get it to work but after u said all that idk if i really want to risk spending the $50 what do u think?
As for buying a new deck thats out of the question i just got the new late 2012 model JVC.
I already do music. I wanted video so i can play movies and play youtube but mostly wanted my google maps to show on the big screen so i could just tuck my phone away.
The HML cable is a decent price. You may it to be useful for showing off pictures or videos at home or at friends' on the TV rather than the phone. I see the cable still being useful if what your propose doesn't work out.
I can't so for certain if it's going work. It looks promising. I like the Eleckcity has 60 positive reviews (4 or 5 stars) out of 78. Fifty dollars isn't a bad cost. I would just check the return the policy. I would write Eleckcity and ask about returns if they product doesn't work or as expected. Also, there is a review who used it in a similar manner that you're trying to do. I would definity write that person to find out more details on the headunit and so forth.
The only thing I would be weary about is powering the Eleckcity. Since it doesn't have it's own powersouce, it's going to draw it's power from the USB. I don't know for certain, but I don't believe the USB power on the GN2 sends out power. If it does, I don't think it's much. It's only used the OTG USB cable with items that had their power. And the MHL has as power supply. If it doesn't power it, I think a simple USB powerhub could do the trick. I'm sure there is probably some kind of cigarette car adapter usb hub that could found or the like.
I understand the goal. I don't know how much effect and cost is worth it for you to how often you would use the maps and video features on your deck's screen. In looking at some of the JVC multimedia head units, screen size isn't very larger since they range 6.1" to 7". So I put eh screen size as negligible factor, by my standards. Obviously, use the headunit's screen would be more elegant look, espically compared to having three windowshield/dashboard car docks, a 150W USB cigarette car power inverter, and cables hanging in from of the dash; one is the for the satellite radio. Then again, I only need that stuff about once every six months. So, maybe a simple dock such as iOttie or Clingo may work well with a car charger for phone if you only plan to use it say, once a month or less. T
The last paragraph is just proposed plan B and C, and so forth.
