[Q] No SD supplied with new DHD? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I didn't get an SD with my DHD that I bought today!
I asked the shop and he said it's normal, all the DHD he brings don't have SD card!!
Thanks God I have a spare card but is it really normal in 2011 for a 500$ phone?

http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_hd-3468.php
they are clearly supplied with 8gb samsung card (class 2 if memrory serves). i think this company are taking you for a ride as htc always supplys storage cards with thier phones albeit pretty small and slow.
was the phone already opened?

I don't think so!
But it's a black market phone so God knows what did they took from it
I am pretty sure it should have one because in the manual that came with it they mention that the card should be already inside the phone + HTC Sync should be provided in the card!
I will call the shop again and tell them that it should absolutly have an SD because of htc sync, the problem is that it's a sort of mafia and will say that ''I assure you it doesn't have'' or even ''what are the proves that you didn't take it away yourself''
Personally I don't care so much and I have an 8gb spare with lot of titanium backups on it but just for my right to have it

all the maps etc as well as sync are pre loaded, you maybe able to get an image of the original card somewhere.

'Dead' 16GB SD card?

Hi all,
Happily listening to music with Core Player on the TP2 I received last Saturday and the phone lit up with a message from Core Player that it wanted to update my media library, following the removal of the SD Card.
Suffice to say, I was confused: no chance with the SD card hidden under the battery cover that it could have been loose and fallen out but checking through File Manager on the phone, the SD card can't be seen at all.
Put said card into an adapter and then card reader on my PC; it comes up to suggest there is no card inserted: put the same card via adapter into my digital camera and the camera refuses to even turn on with the card in.
It's a duff card I'm sure - bit peeved since it wasn't that old but meh: don't trust all eBay sellers selling 'genuine' SanDisk products I guess - however, whilst I await the arrival of a new one, could it be my TP2 that has damaged the card in some way? Has anyone else noted problems with the TP2 and higher capacity SD cards?
FlashROM based cards only have a certain number of writes. Same goes for SSDs. They should have a way to track number of writes to cards. I've had official Sandisk cards go bad on me within the first year too. Don't forget that static shocks from your clothes can actually damage the card. Also don't forget that your phone can corrupt your data if it's in the middle of a read/write op and you remove the card.

Thanks for your thoughts mate: it wasn't removed from the phone and the phone only had CorePlayer running on it at the time - so I don't think it was anything I'd done
I think I got duped by someone on eBay selling a 'Geninue' Sandisk card that perhaps wasn't - I've read here than Danetec are also quite good so I've ordered one of them directly: fingers crossed I have more luck with my second one!
I was more concerned with it possibly being my phone - I read a month or so back on the Diamond2 forum that 16GB cards didn't work so well with that phone and wondered if any forumites here had noted any issues with the TP2 and certain SD cards, thats all...
it happened to me last weekend, due to an automatic update of go news touch which went wrong.
no way to see or format the card on the ppc or my netbook. I had to go back home, put it into a usb adaptor, and finally format it with mu desktop pc. my little cer netbook couldn't detect it, and locked up each time I tried formatting it, even from cmd console. but on desktop with adaptor it went just fine.
hope you'll be able to resolve - my sandisk card was 20 days old, 65€ worth, and having it toasted isn't something I would wish to anyone

In this case, it's not even recognised - via a card reader, active sync or inside another device: this one I think is lost Meh, it's only money
Hi All
Paulplex, don't feel you are alone, this happened to me too with a genuine Sandisk 16gb card. It worked last thing at night, went to access it in the morning and it was dead - just 3 months old with no issues at all up to that point.
The solution was replace it as it would not recognise via a reader in the pc either - completely useless....
The cause? Who knows, i do suspect the TP 2 though as i had no issue with it on my old Dopod 838 pro for the first 2 months since new.
Cheers

Fried SD card

Unplugged my Desire from the charger yesterday to discover the SD card had failed totally. Rebooting failed to recognise it and once the screen switched itself off I couldn't get it back on. With SD card removed the phone seems fine but the card is not recognised in any reader now and can't even be reformatted. Did the card just die (it got very hot) or has anyone else had this experience?
A possible SD card failure not caused by the phone or reader. IVe seen this happen and be reported before with certain brands. You should return the SD for a replacement (assuming you have tried all the normal ways to try and read it)
I had my 32GB class 2 do the same thing, I whipped it out and put it into a USB reader then reformatted. I fully believe that its down to not 'ejecting' the card first before unplugging it since I selected the device (card) to be read as a drive.
Just be careful dude, its a royal pain restoring everything, keep a regular backup of your card if you can spare the GB. its's real time saver.
I was a bit worred too about the heat of the device effecting the micro SD card, but from what I read its still well within the safe requirements of the card even at 40C.
most cards come with 2 years+ warrantly especially Sandisk so check that out if you've well and truely screwed the card up (it happens, sadly.)
Had this same problem yesterday with an 8gb card. Just wont but with the card in the phone. So far it has done it twice in a week , one 4gb , one 8gb, both times while I've been using HTC's music application. Don't know if its just a coincidence or not...
Do you use a task killer? Wondered if I'm shutting something I shouldn't be.
Was it a goldcard?
Thanks for the responses. No task killer active and cannot reformat the card because no reader will recognise it. Guess it has gone to the great card graveyard in the sky
May it rest in peace my friend...I sympathise and am sorry for your loss...
Before purchasing a new one make sure that it's not something with the phone. Can you live a few days with the spare 4GB card that came with the phone?Fill it and use that for a few days and see if something similar happens again.Except for if you've been using that already...
could creating a ext cache partition have anything to do with it ?
i had the same problem but managed to get most my data back first time....stupidly i formatted it and carried on using it. couple of days it died compeltly !
learnt my lesson and make sure i backup every few days- pain yes but it's the same with any data if you don't want to lose it back it up !
...premature death announcement there. After a couple of days rest in a darkened jacket pocket, the card is suddenly visible to my laptop again! Clearly on its last legs as several files corrupted and it refuses to reformat but at least I rescued most of the data.
As usual the only backup you ever need is the one you didn't do!
Try formatting with a digital camera...
I had a similar problem with a corrupt SD card in my old phone. Computer wouldn't read it, but managed to format it using a digital camera after which it worked again (and still is).
Might be worth a try before consigning it to the bin...

[Q] Dropped Evo... SD Card not found

Hey Guys,
I dropped my Evo today pretty hard and i'm pretty sure something inside related to the sd card reader broke. I hear something rattling and it will not recognize my sd card. I restarted plenty of times, took out sd card and put back in and doesn't make a difference.
I plan on making sure its the phone later with another sd card I have at home to make sure its the phone vs the sd card.
Assuming it's the phone that's screwed, I'm thinking without access to an sd card, I can't really unroot before taking it into sprint to get it checked out.
I have insurance, would it be best to just claim it lost? Do you think sprint will give me crap about it being rooted if I take it in?
I really appreciate any feedback.
I would! But if you have ADB install on your computer, you can try to unroot it that way, if not I would claim it lost.
9 times out of 10 they won't give a fu€¥. If it's got pieces lose and it won't operate there not going to fix it before they replace it.
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......
Thanks guys. I got home and swapped another sd card and it reads that card fine... I guess i just killed my 16gb card I just recently got for xmas! ><
The weird thing is there is definitely something loose rattling inside now.. I'm still tempted to just claim it lost and get a brand new one since this thing is a little beat up

It might just be corrupt. Try to mount it to your PC. It should "repair" it and you can take some files off.
As for something rattling around, if you have Total Equipment Protection, bring it to a Sprint store. They will fix it for you for free, even if its your fault. If you claim it stolen/lost, it will cost you $100. Unless you REALLY want a new one.
hmmm happened to me. just removed card and inserted and all was good.
Yeah, i tried inserting my 16gb sdcard into my pc and it doesn't even recognize it via the card reader. but if i put my 8gb into the same reader, it reads it fine... I'm guessing that means 16gb card = dead.
If I take it in for repair for that rattling, do you think they will notice/care that the phone is rooted though? That's why i'm weary of taking it in to get it "checked out" at a sprint store.

[Q] Corrupt Photos/Videos!!!!!

Hi community members!
I am a new owner (2 weeks) of a DesireHD but had to return the phone to T-Mobile UK due to the photos taken with the phone being corrupted after time - eg, after switching phone off and off after time or simply after roughly 2 hours after taking photos/videos. I can view photos taken with another device fine. I had replaced the 8gb sd card with a 16gb sd card. I had problems with both. I restored the phone to factory settings but this did not help. I reformatted the bought 16gb sd card but no joy. I didn't want to buy yet another sd card if the problem is the phone and not the card. The phone would not let me save pics to the phone's internal memory. T-Mobile can't confirm when the phone will be returned (it's been over 2 weeks now - ie, I have been without the phone as long as I had the phone) though say it left the repair shop over a week ago!!
I like the phone and am considering ending my T-Mobile contract and getting the same phone but with another carrier but not if the phone's camera doesn't work properly.
Any advice/thoughts most welcome.
Thanks!!
Did you find a solution?
And more importantly did you recover the lost pics/vids? My HTC wildfire has just today started showing my latest pics/vids as corrupt and i REALLY dont want to lose these. I took them this morning, viewed them and they were fine. Came to work, hooked up my phone and laptop and synced. Checked the results and the new vids just have the vlc cone rather than an image from the vid and the cone in the corner.
I also just bought a new 32gig card and have had the trouble since. Please PLEASE help me reccover these vids.

crashes by manufacturer...

I've owned my HD7 for quite a while (1yr +), and my girl had her's for maybe over 6 months...both used.
her's started crashing after about 6 months, whereas I had no issues up until now (restarts and stays on white "HTC" screen and all data is lost)
THe only other person we know with a wp7 device, has a Dell VP. They've had no crashes.
So my question is, for those of you that don't have HTC devices, have you had any crashes that have wiped the phone?
Is this crashing an OS issue, or hardware...
sounds like the micro sd card in your phones are bad. unlike newer wp devices the hd7 has a hidden sd card in it that it uses for storage and im guessing yours is faulty or has been swapped for a lesser quality one since you said they were both used.
...i could tell that my girls phone had been taken apart..so when it crashed, i did just that. Went and bought a new SD card to replace the internal card...crashes still occured later.
My phone did not appear to have been taken apart before and like i said, was trouble free for over a year...

WP is very picky about SD cards, it is a known problem and why all the new phones don't use them anymore. As far as your phone working fine for a year... well SD cards do go bad. I could also be wrong but I'm pretty sure that is your problem.
