Ok, not sure where to post this but it has to be rom related or maybe kernel
this has been going on for a little while now and i cant figure out whats causing it..
it may be temp related but it has been doing it when the temp is normal too...
basically, it reboots and doesnt stop, i have to take the batt out and then it will reboot normal.
i tried different kernels and roms, they all have been doing it...
not sure if something is damaged like the batt or phone but im getting sick of it..
any ideas?
i got this evo when it came out, it was rooted from day one and i have been able to OC heavy at times..
im not over doing the OC since i know how much to push it there... the undervolt is fine.

post this in Q&A next time
How are you wiping in between roms? My wifes phone does that every once in a while. Usually a good wipe with Virusroms Superwipe does the trick.

HTC phones are very picky meaning that after flashing so many ROM's it can cause bad mtd blocks. Thus the phone does not let the it boot proper. I'm not saying that this is the problem but it could be one. If I were you I would try to flash a RUU and wait a couple days to see if the phone acts normal. If it does try to flash a ROM and see if it starts again, if it does then it may be a bad mtd block. You should do a log cat so we can see where and why the phone will randomly reboot.
Try virusrom's superwipe, and yes, try going back to stock for a while. But also, don't laugh off the people that tell you to post in the right section. This forum is way too cluttered already. Development forums in particular. Mistakes happen, but please read the rules at least once. Anyway, now you know--have fun here at XDA.

do you guys think it would help if i flash a stock rooted rom?
Like was stated above, try flashing back to STOCK and UNROOTED. If it still does it, take it to Sprint for a replacement since it'll be a hardware issue then.

I thought rooting my HTC EVO 4G would be the coolest thing to do, which it was at first but im having a lot of problems with my phone now. Like, i hate that i dont have service anywhere, my wifi doesnt work, wen i was in ATL and able to get 4G coverage, i only had 2 freakin bars.. So, with that being said, i need for someone to kindly instruct me step by step how to unroot my phone and get it BACK to normal. this crap is killing me.
I'm pretty sure it was user error. What roms were you running? And by the way this thread should be in General or Q&A.
The unrooting procedure is in this forum. But before you do that let me reinsure you that rooting isn't the reason for your malfunctions. I'm sure its just a coincidence.. different roms, kernels, and mods actually help resolve issues and make your phone better.
But do a lil searching in this forum for the unrooting. But I hope you reconsider

Well, since its our responsibility to help anyone who gets in over their head here is the ruu to unroot your phone and make it "iphoney" again. Run the ruu labeled stock 3.70 and your will be the subordinate to your phone again
It will look like this; RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe

Or take the blue pill, read up on some stuff and join us in the ways of doing whatever the hell we want with the stuff you bought. Because I promising rooting didn't mess up your phone.
wow give him a break, if he got his phone rooted in the first place he can't be extremely helpless. Viper, yea he posted in the wrong section(mods can move why whine about it?) I can clearly tell he is asking how to unroot his phone and go back to stock.

I would try the latest Cyanogen 7 if I were you...my phone has never ran better and its still not a final release ROM. If you're first attempt was the Incredible port you really need to take a step back and try something that is not in initial stages.

how to unroot your evo ---
honestly rooting is the best thing that happened to my evo --
here you go.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141 -- thats the unroot thread
--- still dont get what all the flaming is all about.. suxx that he failed to put this thread in the right section.. i messed up once..
but none the less i also got stuck in a bootloop day 1 of owning my device.. i blamed fresh -- i later learned it was user error..
im sorta TARDED lol -- but learning is the battle that won me over.. the flaming just makes the situation worse
cmon now havent we all hopefully even thought if not already posted " which rom is best"
i know i asked all my friends and i got just try em and shut up i said thank goodness for friends or i would be pissed .. lol
none the less.. maybe its too much for him suxx that the person wont get to experience what we all enjoy about this.. but people
change their minds daily who knows he might even thing ahhh wth lemme keep trying stuff..
not that im his lawyer but flaming suxx.. thats all
OP! i posted in your first thread when you were crying about not being able to figure out STEP BY STEP instructions for flashing... that was like 2 days ago! i really dont know what to say... but READ READ READ the forums.... i have a nokia 5100 series phone i will give you for free, i think that phone will be better suited for you.
EDIT: if you are wondering how in the world this person got rooted, read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006914 its a play by play of how he managed it...
if you checked this thread expecting laughter and need some.. read that thread..
Dude flash a ROM that lists everything as working in the OP. Sprint Lovers or Stock Turbo or Fresh or one of many others.
If you need to unroot, download the unrevoked s-on zip and flash it. Then stock 3.70 PC36IMG.zip file and put it on the root of your sd card. Power on the phone while holding down the Volume Down button and follow the steps on your phone to flash the update.
But honestly you don't need to unroot, you need to READ. A lot. You will be fine if you just read even the stickies in each of the forums.

You might have your governor set to performance or something. Try flashing a custom kernal and set your governor to smartass with a min of 245 and a max of 960 or something similar like that. I was getting the same result you're properly getting where it seem like my system was over heating and draining my battery like crazy and this worked like a charm! Also, go to settings/accounts & sync/ and uncheck background data because that also drains your battery like crazy too!
Oh and it this helps, I'm running CM7 RC4 with Tiamat's 3.3.4 SBC kernal
Hope this has helped and don't let the idiots bother you dude!
I have been working with Barnicles on this very same issue . Some phones suffer from it others dont . Example I just finished talking to my mom for 30 mins . My "Android System" usage is now sitting at 85% , voice calls at 12% , cell Standby at 2% , Wifi at 2% and phone idle at 2% . Him and I believe it is something in the settings of GB that either records it incorrectly or is relabeling the usage incorrectly . I have tried it all myself from upgrading my pri to 1.90 , downgrading to 1.77 . I have tried different kernels and had no effect . I have tried turning off everything and disabling all apps no effect . We are still working on it but I dont have alot of expierence with reading and writting script , so hes mostly on that end while Im on this end trying different combinations of things to see if I can reduce it if not eliminate it . So far it seems to be pointing in the direction of either the frame work or the actual scripting . Like I said its a work in progress . Also i have tried almost all of the GB roms out there personally and they all suffer from this same issue . It makes me believe it is indeed part of the coding somewhere .

I have checked out the Nexus S forums . Most seem to complain of Display and cell stand by being the major drains on battery life . None have really complained of high android system usage . Our issue here in the HTC EVO realm seems to be its more of a cosmetic issue . Battery life doesnt seem to be impacted by it . Its still odd I can have the phone , text , surf the web , facebook and everything but when I make a phone call Android system skyrockets to the top . Maybe initially it isnt registering Android system usage at first and for some reason a call being made triggers it to appear . Not sure just been guessing at this
We're trying to determine the "root" (pun intended) of the problem so if you wanna come in here and start a fight go find a local bar to do so. We need to try and locate the source of the problem so either post something useful or walk away.
There seems to be some confusion and I dont know if its being ignored or what but theres an issue with these kernels that needs to be looked into further before new ones continue to be released.
Theres an obvious problem for a good amount of people and everytime I look I see comments that there isnt a problem. So heres everything I could quickly find regarding it.
Now Im not trying to be a **** about this but I dont get how the issue is unheard of when its one of the biggest topics in this section. And so we're clear, this is happening in ALL kernels. Unfortunately its been more profound in Zedos because it seems more people went with his method.
All Im asking is before more and more kernels are released that someone at least acknowledge the problem and see if it can be addressed before more and more people root and start complaining because they were told there was no LO.S. bug

Telling you right now someone is going to come in here and go "this belongs in General" then a mod will move your thread and deduct 5 points from something, not sure...but just a heads up
I also see a lot of people having issues, but I'm now on day 2 of flashing Zedo V1 and have yet to experience any of these issues. Not sure what I did different, but everything just works... The only thing I did was after rooting was getting my MSL from Sprint and erased the proxy servers in the ##3282 menu.
EDIT: Ok, I just lost service 1 1/2 day after rooting... Bug finally hit me..
I dont mind it being moved and I have no clue what the deduction in "points" does but I'll deal with it.
Now Im getting much better battery but I know people are still losing service on the new OC kernel. My roommate happens to be on e the unlucky ones.
Man...thanks for posting this. Hopefully the mod doesn't close this thread. This definitely is a concern and a serious matter. I don't care if these kernels are, "use at your own risk" these kernels should've been listed as betas, and/or the bugs should've been listed and further testing should have been. If those steps were taken, I bet a lot of people would've held back from flashing them. I know I would have.
Shabby posted this earlier in the other thread (post 160):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267762&page=16
One thing that got to me was this morning I woke up, hoping to see a stock kernel and/or a way to return to stock. And instead, I see a new overclockable kernel. To me that's just not right. I think that you have to prioritize. That's like putting out a rom that has all data broke. Then instead of fixing it, you put out another rom...while disregarding the issues with the first rom. At least acknowledge the issue and let everyone know it's been worked on....don't just blow it off.
I know some of the devs over in the Evo forums was good about this....if something went haywire with one of their roms or mods...they were all on top of it to get the issue fixed and they also communicated with posting updates on the matter.
Like I said, hopefully the mods don't close this.

Bubby does have the stock kernel pulled. I was testing it till 1:30 in the morning but he's gotta recompile it. It was bootlooping so today thats his first order of business.
As for the kernels, I flashed it by choice. I dont blame the devs for ANYTHING, Im just saying acknowledge theres a bug and lets see how to resolve it.
I've been reading through the rooted kernel threads as well prior to jumping on the root wagon and have seen several people mention that they are not rooted and have experienced the loss of service so it seems that the issue may not be exclusive to the rooted kernels...possibly a Samsung bug?
Very possible which is why im hoping we can get an idea of how man people are rooted vs non rooted having it. Now the only thing is I cant find any complaints online about nonrooted phones doing it except a few here and youd think it'd be widely discussed

Yeah...I read those too. However, I never lost any service at home with any android phone I've owned..Nexus S 4g, all Evo's, Epics etc. Then today I wake up and I have no service....maybe it is a samsung bug, but I'd rather return to stock myself to see if the issue was still there.
Stocks on its way i promise. Probly tonight actually. Bubby was really close last night. Once we get that Id be curious to see what happens.

This is an issue that started with mine also yesterday. But not only did I lose data but gps also. A reboot fixed it but I would like to know whats going on. I just came from the evo 3d and there was an issue that had to do with the prl so I am going to give that a shot with the 11115 prl that fixed the evo. Will post back with the results later today.
On V5, Ive only had the loss of data once in about 12 hours, versus about 3 times on Zedo V1.
I also did http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17703908&postcount=11 for the hell of it to see if that helped (even though I got it at a sprint store)
For the record:
A) People have reported this issue even on the stock kernel. It is not clear where the cause is.
B) For kicks (and because it cannot hurt) I did the whole profile/PRL update thing that someone suggested. Be it luck or real benefit, I have no had the issue since.

I would think it would be widely discussed as well so that seems odd. I'm waiting to see what evolves or at least for stock kernel (an undo) before flashing a rooted one. I don't have TEP.
It's still a bit early for the issue to be too widely discussed.

Nice. I was told by a helpful Sprint cust. serv. rep. a while back that you should update your PRL & Profile when you go into a new area (tavel, move, or even long commute to work) regardless of which phone you have. I would think unboxing your phone would qualify as well. It sure couldn't hurt.

Good point. Many people would not likely research on the web/forums, instead they'd likely address the issue directly with Sprint.

Ever owned a Samsung phone before?
This is my 3rd one and I swore after the last one Id never buy a Samsung phone again but I got sucked back in. Samsung is notorious for shipping phones with all kinds of bugs that should be considered showstoppers then pushing out fixes months later.
It would not surprise me at all if that was the case here. I am one of the ones having this issue and I am not rooted. Ive lost data several times after hanging up a call. The data never restores and I have to toggle 3G to get it come back.
I dont think this is a kernel issue. I think its something to do with the rest of the OS, either that or the kernel is a different problem thats just acting the same way.
Ok thats what i was hoping to find is nonrooted and rooted people who are having the issue. Now on my moment this issue was huge so i went to htc and maybe thats the case again. Maybe sammy dropped the ball again. Question is what can be done about it.

I woke up this morning, unplugged my phone from the charger and it flashed and went blue and it is slowly changing different colors. I want to know how I can fix this or if there is a fix or if I should just unroot and go back to stock firmware. Let me know asap. Thank you!!
Wow...really?? 11 views and not one reply...
did you pull the battery for 5 minutes, and try again?
unroot go to completely stock. if its still there take it to sprint. if its not there wait and see if it comes back. I would say its highly unlikely its the roms fault.
Definitely sounds like a hardware failure and not the ROM. I forget what it is but that sounds exactly like something I heard about that can go wrong with the screen itself. So at least it's not your fault.
I'm pretty new here but I am going to guess that the lack of response is from the title of your post.. I personally wouldn't use the term "ASAP" in a request for help..
As far as your issue, good luck and hope you get it working...

^^^He is quite right it does not matter how many views you get if a person does not know how to help you its probably better that they say nothing at all. IMHO I dont think you needed anyone else's help to figure this out.. All the choices are pretty clear... Sorry but I hope you got it all working though
Yup go to stock
Use a jig to reset your counter and then go to sprint store

Do not worry about any flash count/root/ROM. If the screen is blank......ummm.. This is obliviously a hardware issue. Or the first question I would ask is. Factory charger on not?
If yes then definitely warranty replace.
Go to your local sprint store.
If this was in any way a ROM issue this would be reported more.
Or ya need to hook me up wit wat u smokin. THE COLORS MAN..
Well after rooting my phone it started to do a bunch of bs so I want to put it back to stock factory firmware, anyone know how I can do this?

I think you broke it. There is no going back.
Or you can take 3 seconds and look up the damn answer. Rooting the phone will not make it do a bunch of weird BS. Good grief. This crap is getting old.
You obviously have no idea what the heck you are doing. Try to educate yourself. Read a little. It's not that damn hard. Just try a little bit. Put forth a tiny little bit of effort.

That is not possible. One thing has nothing to do with the other. All rooting does is change permissions to allow you to install software. You have another issue.

yeah I know that the only logical explanation is that I got a bad build of the rom because it happen right after preloading it with a stock rooted rom?

Couldn't find the ruu? When they are stickied in the dev section? Its because you didn't look.
And there is NOTHING that injecting superuser and flashing a custom recovery did to make your phone lag. You should really read before messing with your expensive device

It shows. First rule of this site is search before posting. We will not spoon feed you. Make yourself acquainted with the site, search around, read a lil bit. THEN hack your device.

I have searched my problem but not sure what caused it? has anyone heard this before or is it just that JB is slow? I guess Ill go back to ICS rooted instead
