[Q] Privacy Settings - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for setting this question at such a high place. But i´m asking me since i have an DHD (or Android) how the automatic backup from Android (2.2 and on) works. If i enable Save my settings (under Settings -> Privacy) so it will be stored somewhere in the google universe. Without the chance of get control of it, just in case to see what is stored, can i delete some of this things etc. And if i deactivate the option it says it deletes all copies on the google server, if a activate it then once again how long takes it to update all again ?
The reason why i now ask is:
I have formerly installed CM 7 and backuped all data, did a fresh install and activated the option not in the beginning (in case to overwrite some of my settings with too freshly data ) and forgot it after that for a while. Just tested today an Sense ROM and recognized there where no Wifi Settings and so on. Then i found out why, the HTC Sense ROM came with automatic activated "Backup Data" and overwrited all of my longer ago saved data. Now i switched back to my CM 7.02 with Nandroid and activated the option again (off and on, to delete it the first time). So, my question: How long take the backup ? When do Google backups my data - on a restart - after some hours ? Someone have an answer ?
Thanks anyway

[Q] I'm getting an FC on Sense on every reboot

Every time I reboot, the initial start of Sense it FCs.
It does restart and then run normally, but I'm wondering
what is causing the problem?
What might cause a force close on sense at boot time? My environment is
listed in my signature -- I'm also using outlook (virus checker) if it matters.
How can I address it. would reloading / reinstalling my rom (virtuous 3.2)
help ?
Can I save my PIM data and wipe and reload it? I need to preserve calendar
(phone) a phone contacts. I do NOT sync to google. Would My Backup Pro
do for that? Would that save my contact groups?
I was thinking maybe there is something in system data that was crashing sense?
so a reset / rebuild would help?
Thanks
I use my backup pro and it'll sync apps and ddata contacts calanders basically everything but it never worked with dictionary for me. Reloading the rom may help and you can reload it without wiping since its the same rom as before.

Have you tried fixing permissions in Rom Manager? That might solve your problem. If not I would say backup everything that you want, and then wipe everything and then reinstall the rom.
My guess is something is sitting in Sense data corrupting your sense UI.
Go into Settings > Applications > Running and locate HTC Sense (might be 2) and clear data.
This will cause you to have to redo all your home screens but you will not lose your data and will not have to redo e-mail etc.
I was thinking the same thing
although, would that account for it working the second time it tries to run?
that is, it FCs on initial start. but when it tries to run again, it appears
to work and the home screens come up.
the data is in /data or /data/data right? so if I make a nandroid
backup, I could return to where I am now?

Yes, do a nand backup however, the way you clear it is
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Running > then click on HTC Sense (the larger one) and clear data.
No need to go into /data/ at all

Fülle wipe

Hi
I have a question about my Desire hd. I have flashed Android revolution hd 3.1 with the recommend radio and buzz kernel. Before that I had the 3.0 version of arhd. So have done a Manuel full wipe in recovery and also use the full wipe zip from a post in this board. But my wallpaper and shortcuts to internet site were still there after flashing 3.1. I have also formatted the SD card so where were they saved that they appear after a full wipe. I'm asking this because I have battery problem. It's about 5-7 mA while screen is off ( using setup smartas). Don't low way to do to d this.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm not sure about your internet shortcuts, but I know the wallpaper selection is backed up with your google account, so whenever you re-signin after wiping, it'll restore it from there.
As for your battery drain, I have to say that 5 - 7mA is not terrible at all for AR. I know I was getting similar numbers while using it.
However, if you're still looking to optimise, I'd recommend checking out this thread for more information. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
The wallpaper and everything comes back because they are backed up in google. If you don't want them back do this (however this will not restore the apps):
1. Wipe everything via CWM (data/cache/dalvik cache). Do it manually. Install the ROM you want.
2. Reboot your phone. Do not setup your google account now.
3. Go to settings ---> Privacy ----> Check Backup my settings (you need to do this to uncheck "automatic restore" option) and uncheck "automatic restore" option.
4. Restart your phone. Set up your google account. Uncheck backup my settings.
This will do it. It is indeed very useful when you do not want the rests from your previous ROM.

[Q] Disable auto-install apps

Hi there,
I already searched about this but i cant really find anything useful to me.
The problem is: I have a HTC Desire and everytime I change rom from new sense he restore my old apps from the old roms.... How can i stop that auto installation? Its so annoying.
Best Regards!
portela =)
U mean google's automatic backup?
Settings>Privacy>Backup Settings
Either the previous post or are you using an EXT partition for data2sd? If so, you will have to format that partition in between flashing roms.
If you flash new roms, you should do a full wipe. All installed should be deleted with this action.

What was told: Do a full wipe before flashing a rom. With this action the /data partition and ext partition (and some other partitions, but these two are the were apps will be installed) will be formatted. Now apps should not install "themselves". A solution for now:
Manually uninstall the apps which reinstalled themselves.
And you can turn google's automatic backup off . You get the google contacts from syncing with google account (settings>accounts & sync). I also turned off this automatic backup, sync on the described way and i have all my google contacts on my phone. Furthermore, i (would) backup myself with titanium backup + nandroid + sms backup & restore.

I always do full wipes when I install roms... I think that the problem is that sense or something saves downloaded apps and it downloads again the apps.

Your phone backs up the following types of data and settings whenever there are new additions or changes:
- Text and multimedia messages
- Settings in the Messages application
- Web bookmarks
- Keyboard dictionary
- Settings in your phone that fall under these categories:
Wireless & networks
Sound & display
Location
Applications
Date & time
Language & keyboard - only the Locale setting
I really dont understand how dont u all have this problem.. even the background desktop picture is there after another rom install >_>
still searchin more ideas :\
Now i am finished with my knowledge. Sorry. It sounds so strange that apps reinstall themselves.
sad thanks by the way
any1 with an idea about this?
bump help
The only way I have found is as soon as you've gone through the setup process on initial boot with a new ROM, rush to Settings > Applications, then terminate Market application and clear its data. It stops it autodownloading the apps again.
Then I install what i want using Titanium Backup, and then I run Market. It does a "first start" user agreement thing and you're all back to normal, without the market redownloading apps you downloaded under previous ROMs.
Not a brilliant solution but better than nothing.

Whenever I change Rom I don't add my Google account in the initial setup. Before u do that, go settings , privacy, backup/restore. The auto restore option is ticked but greyed out so u cant select it. Tick auto backup box, de select auto restore, and deselect auto backup again. Now it should'nt restore anything...

[Q] Desire won't boot

I've installed Android 4.0 ICS Rom
"[BETA 0.2.1][04.01.12] ICS for Desire [with Camera][4.0.3]"
I went fine with the installation and for about a day the phone worked fine, but now, for some reason the phone will not boot past the animation
(flying coulours to form an 'x')
wipe data and cache and reinstall it
I had the same problem because I forgot to wipe data and cache before installing.
You should backup your data with Titanium, then wipe data and cache and reinstall it.
I'm also running BETA-0.2.1 on HTC desire and everthing works fine except :
- missed calls are not notified by the led (sms are)
- number of missed calls is added to the number of already browsed missed calls from the same day
- wifi connection to ad-hoc network does not work
- power off menu appears even though the screen is locked and this may
result in accidentally turns off of the device when carrying it in your pocket.
(in my opinion this is a major bug)
- light remains on for a long time (10 seconds) when screen is locked and
power button is accidentally pressed. When carried in the pocket
a lot of power is used because of that.
- contact name appears only after 2-3 sec from the start of ringing
- it restarted once when started Google Maps
- battery drains much faster than for Oxygen 2.3.1

You may want to use "SMS Backup & Restore", too, to backup SMS. Or just use "Backup Everything", it's said to be better than Titanium. (As for me, I'm using all of them ).
Greets, Magpie
Thanks for the help! But how do i 'backup everything'? Thanks
You backup everything by using "Backup Everything".
That was an easy one ...
Greets, Magpie
I wasn't able to backup the Calendar on gingerbread and then restore it on ICS. I've tried with a lot of applications plus google sync.
None worked, so I have done it manually.

[Q] How to delete backup data from google

Hi everyone, i am very annoyed because everytime i flash a new rom google restores all of my settings and apps from my previous phone (hd2) and i haven't found a way to disable this feature, can anyone help, btw the feature backup/restore data from google accont doesen't work
you
You'd better change you email xP
After flashing a new ROM and when prompted to sign in to Google, skip this part for now (there is normally a skip function, or you can try pressing home or back button).
From there go to your "Settings">"Privacy" and Un-check "Back up my data" and "Automatic Restore".
Then you are free to go to "Settings">"Accounts & Sync">"Add Google Account", to get your Contacts, Gmail and Browser synced.
The scheme with the signing in after unchecking seems to be working but i'm still wondering how to make the information on the google servers go away

i was getting mad every time my phone started downloading all those app on its own thank god i have a solution now
Does it still download every app when you first sync up? I thought it just loaded contacts and calender/docs and probably drive stuff now.
The last time I did a full wipe it didn't do this for me. That would be a nightmare because every app I have ever downloaded is in my market library when I got to play.google.com on my laptop. If anything I would like to trim that down and remove selective apps. There are some that are just rubbish now that I would never use. Just downloaded to try for example.
it would be really nice if yo could manage your backup data, select what yo want to restore like wireless settings or wallpapers or ringtones
Although you can not get to actually see the data, have a look HERE On the point of disabling and deleting the back ups through ADB command prompt

I know this is an old thread, but here is some info from the docs about "bmgr"
http://developer.android.com/tools/help/bmgr.html
Warning! When backup is disabled, the current backup transport will explicitly wipe the entire active data set from its backend storage. This is so that when a user says they do not want their data backed up, the Backup Manager respects that wish. No further data will be saved from the device, and no restore operations will be possible, unless the Backup Manager is re-enabled (either through Settings or through the above bmgr command).

This implies disabling backup deletes all backed up files on the server.
