The Official JM1

As you guys knew that Kies was offering JM1. I decided to upgrade anyways (despite getting "dont update" comments in other post here).
just finished updating my phone and the lag is minimal.
The details in "Settings > About Phone" gives me this
Model Number : GT-19000
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: I9000XXJM1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build Number: ECLAIR.I9000XXJM1
and the *#1234# gives me this:
PDA: I9000XXJM1
PHONE: I9000XXJM1

New Features:
the first thing I've seen is the new Sweep Lock Animation. (its the same as the old one but with animated arrows on each side).
faster media scanning?
new notification for fully charged battery. (there was a popup earlier, now the notification pops up in top bar with a sound).
new Task Manager! (yes a Task Manager from Samsung!)
The quick toggle keys in notification list has been changed! a new GPS icon has been added.
a notification(?) appears when USB is connected asking to close all apps before trying to start up MTP mode.
[*]MTP mode starts automatically instead of menu.
[*]New notification sounds.
[*]Larger speakers/mute/headset buttons during call.
[*]Customizable fonts via FlipFonts.
the phone feels slowish when I press "application" or "home" only due to the animation. If there was no fade in/out animation, It would have been awesome!.
will check the battery life tonight when I go to work.

I don't get it. Is JM1 newer than JM5?
All those features exist in JM5!!

OK, i get it.
I'm on JM5 and it flies with 2200 at Quadrant but i have issues with bluetooth and so i'm searching for good alternatives..
could you please:
- tell me where i download it from some official Samsung site?
- post your quadrant score
- tell me if you feel "the lag" or if you applied the no lag fix?

Hi,
You can download the official firmware from Samsung Kies Software
My quadrant score is 896
I haven't applied any lag fix as of now. But my phone is reasonably faster.
When I ran quadrant, the Task Manager showed me that I had around 110MB free memory left in RAM.

Maybe you can enter *#*#44336#*#* to see the build date/time too. And I'm wondering if you got a changelist entry there (a number).

KST=Korean Standard Time
Interesting to know that this fw version also has a changelist nr. It seems that all official releases have a changelistnr, whereas test versions don't.

One more observation, the battery icon on mine doesn't turn to yellow and red anymore as it empties.

Could U upload the backup form ROM Manager?

Posted this another place too, but didn't get any answers. Is this official jm1 different from the unofficial one? Are they IDENTICAL?

Thanks, but that wasn't my point, I was just trying to add an observation to the changes seen in the official JM1 firmware.
Besides, that mod doesn't have a version for the JM1, so I couldn't use it even if I wanted to.

I was on jm1 before I flash with jm5. I think I notice, jm1 allow me to response to exchange meeting invitation where jm5 doesn't. Thinking of flash it back jm1.

I managed to finally update the firmware from a non-stock JF3 rooted firmware, on a German phone with UK firmware, in South Africa!!!
I tried all kinds of things and could not get KIES to update to the new firmware, no matter what firmware etc I used. Here is what finally worked for me :
- Flash with JF3 from Samsung-firmwares if you are not running this already, does not matter if rooted.
- Start KIES without connecting the phone, open firmware upgrade and hold keys ctrl+alt+u+p to get it to go into test mode
- Connect the phone and viola, you can upgrade!
Note, this does not seem to work on the newest KIES version. I tried this on both my netbook (old KIES) and my pc (newest KIES) and only the old version worked. I am ugrading as I type.
Note this may not work on branded phones. I own an unlocked SGS

[REQ] update.zip from JM8 GPS files?

Hi,
Could someone separate GPS related files from JM8 and build an update.zip please? I'm running the latest official firmware (PDA: JM2, Phone: JM1) with JM6 GPS files and GPS accuracy is still often scandalous. I cannot risk flashing complete JM8 as Sansung Hungary declared that flasing an unofficial firmware means end of your warranty, so I'd like to update my JM2 with GPS files from JM8. (Having a nandroid backup of untouched JM2 state I can revert this change anytime)
I was wearching i9000 forums and I was not able to locate this kind of package. If someone is knowledgeable enough to create this update package I'd be very thankful. From the different GPS updates coming from different SGS variants and different firmwares the JM6 update gave the best results so fat, but rumors say that there is some imptovement in JM8 compared to JM6 - this is why I'd like to tinker with JM8 gps files without flashing a complete JM8 and void my warranty.

You can always flash back to jm1 and no one will be able to tell it. Or just to make sure - even older version and update with kies.

I would also appreciate an update.zip

Do not expect big improvents! I've just tried the JM8 and the GPS is still crazy and jumping your position everywhere around you location. Navigation is almast impossible. Nasty to say but sadly true.

Im using JM8 with lag fix and gps fix also changed some settings via sgs tools and used my phone to get to devon and all round the coast for the past few days not one problem. I had more issues with n900 sygic and n82 garmin than with this, I get a lock on average of about 7 satelites in 8 secs inside my house.

I would really like to try the JM8 files.

Sorry about that, fixed it!

I think the GPS problem in SGS is because of the Broadcom chip. The drivers for it were updated & given to Samsung very recently, thus we can deduce that no matter what you try, unless Samsung incorporates THOSE drivers in a FW, nothing will really improve.
You can also try to edit gps.conf file & point it to the appropriate NTP server, it might help a lot.

i would like to share my efforts with you all
For Who Need To Add The Arabic Language into the system without losing warranty or damage his phone i found a good way to do that without rooting
i made this rom for my personal use and i like to share it with you
this rom is stock like that stock one in google website yakju-icl53f-factory-89fccaac.tgz
i only add the arabic resource's into the framework and other necessary files to the factory img and fix some small problems
the only way to flash this rom is via fastboot if you already are on Stock ICS icl53f 4.0.2 and dont want to lose your data you can flash the system.img only and prevent lose or backup your data
otherwise you have to install the full package you will lose every thing data and internal memory and pics you have to backup your every thing first
it will restore you to the factory state with my full arabic support i take it from another stock arabic rom
no root already there! root at your own risk !
i think this rom gonna be updatble via ota if you lock your bootloader so we need some one to approve that
flash at you own risk
note : i test this rom on my device GSM i9250 without problem
System details:

Ok some weird stuff just happened
first thing, i found 2 apps included in the software. fast boot & busy box....
how did it get installed ? i thought the ROM was a stock version !!!!
2nd thing 2 apps were installed directly from the market, those 2 apps i tried to install before on my P1000 but it got interrupted N didnt get installed before
3rd, i got a update notification..... so i downloaded it & installed it but when i rechecked the version again it was 4.0.2

i have downloaded & installed the stock 4.0.4
am ok with it since it supports reading & writing Arabic

i am so sorry about that i think i made a mistake about busybox and fastboot i really dont remmber what was the worng exactly i'll be careful in the next version
of course there are some thing wrong in this version i'll try to fix this problem asap to be ota updateble

By the way how is the signal with you

by signal u meant Wi-Fi or the GSM\3G signal ?
either way both are ok for me here no problems

Sorry to tell you that, but the new ICS has Arabic language in it by way of default.
Update:
what I understand from the link that you have attached is that rom has full arabic interface, not just a language support.
about this, I have no clue.

i have problem after updating or clean install stock 4.0.4
when i turn off the screen i lose the signal and too many ppl have this problem

on the back it says made by samsung
i bought it from ADSLGate N i dint know where he got it from
btw i got the Arabic letters separated in chrome in 4.0.4 stock.... how about it in ur ROM

I have same problem chrome does not support arabic the problem from chrome it self cuz firefox working with no problem on this rom

First, Typing "plzzzzz", does not help at all, it would be better if you tell about your phone, such as :
-Firmware Version
-Apps you've installed
-Maybe mods that you've installed
-Your Region
About the "Best" Firmware, it varies for each person, try looking at the Firmware collection at the Development section.
I myself uses Stock Firmware i8150DXLA2 (Asia Region) and I have no problem.

Normally this problem shouldn't be appearing frequently, I just experienced it once or twice along the usage of the phone, maybe you can try to get assist from the Samsung Service Centre or maybe you can try to do a factory reset if you are convenient, but it will involve a lot of works such as backuping, anyway good luck to you and hope it helps.
ps please give more details if possible (eg mod, hack, situation-when did this problem started to occur, etc)

Man, have u installed the Smart Stay app from Google Play. It makes yr camera fail when its scanning your face
Hope this will help.

I had the same problem using the Value Pack ROM.
IT shows a "camera failed" message sometimes, but it works again after killing the camera process OR rebooting the phone.

I installed an app that made the camera fail Go through your apps and uninstall them trying to figure out which one is doing this
For me it was installing google talk with video

I'm surprise to see the new official 4.2.2 firmware of i9082 with the name I9082LVJUBMJ1 in Samsung website and it's so happy for i9082"L" version like me. Can I flash this ROM (of course through Odin) with my i9082L THW ? (I bought my phone in Thailand) ?
Does anyone flash this rom on your i9082L ? Is it Good ?
If somebody downloaded this ROM and flashed to your phone, please leak the link for any ppl can download it. I hate Hotfile and Uploaded ! IT's very slow

I downloaded n flashed it on my Grand immediately after opening this thread.
No problem happened but u should reset factory default after flashed it to have pure stock rom
This rom booted up wit Brazil (Portuguese) language and u can easy change it to English
Also it included many TIM's and other bundled application, u should remove all by using Clean Master or Titanium BU
GUI is slightly different to 4.1.2, especially Setting, and i like this GUI more than 4.1.2
(However no more Development in Setting)
Unfortunately, i'm now facing to a small problem after installing Philz CWM & rooting this device & deleting unwanted applications : whenever the phone reboot, language automatically turns back to Brazil ) Don't know how to solve this ^_^
I confirm this Brazil ROM can update with THW version (through Odin)
Other issues: in stock 4.2.2, SSG is hotter than 4.1.2 though it's smoother. After changing launcher to Nova, temperature seems become better

in about phone menu click on build number 7-8 times it will enable development settings.

The language change issue is due to the new update of SuperSU, ver 1.69. Just uninstall the update reboot and it should fix the problem. I am back to ver 1.25 that came the root zip. You can probably find ver 1.65 somewhere. But, the old version works for me. Chainfire said on his Google + that he is aware of the problem and will fix it on the next update.

Btw, do you use Motion : go on top by tapping 2 times on top of your Samsung phone in Setting> My Device> Motion & Gesture > Motion. I didn't see this motion in new 4.2.2 ( I used to use this motion in 4.1.2)
I also feel the Smart Stay doesn't work "Smart" as 4.1.2 ^_^

Motion only works on Contact. It is pretty useless in my opinion. 4.2.2 does not have it. Smart Stay has never really worked well on 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 for me. So, i turned it off.
