According to a user of ITFunz, MIUI developer/forum adminator AC.milan revealed in a chat that they are already porting MIUI for defy. If things go smoothly, initial version may be released before month end.
wow! sounds awesome! thanks for info
Month end is just a couple of days from now, so this is good news. More developers working on Defy versions would mean greater quality from all custom roms (because fixes for some problems there are with 2.3 can be ported from one place to another).
This means that 2init was the best thing until now.
I'd love to see a stock aosp gingerbread build proted to our device. 2.3.4 would be a treat
Whoa. Nice one
Looking forward to it! Great to see that projects like this one and CM are ported to our Defy!

now that would be great, but tbh we've been behind the CDMA hero for ages lol
Arrgh! At villainrom they're almost ready to release a 0.1 version of Froyo for GSM Hero! But...COME ON! They keep saying they can't get the mic working...When on CDMA EVERYTHING works except for GPS and Camera (the same problems we had with the first 2.1 cooked roms). I really hope they decided to release an ALL-WORKING version...Otherwise...I don't know what to think...
No Devs want to work together.
So they always can not get everything working at the sametime.

Froyvillaino.1 we have been waiting for since just after robin ported n1 FR50...Prepare to wait a whil elonger i think!
I am working on a Cronos Froyo build also. Fully compiled from the 2.2 sources.

I completely agree. It would be much better to work together in getting the hardware working and then to split off to do your own roms based on that.

I like the competition, what I'm taking about is devs getting together to get froyo running, then splitting off to make their own roms.
I think the devs can better work alone and share their work so other devs can play with it and make things better. We're saying that a community rom is better, but we havent seen one? There are tons of official 2.1 roms here, who needs all those. A froyo rom is much more interesting and as you can see, the cdma guys are really far, and maybe you, devs, can port it. Good luck.
thing is - if nobody has gotten the mic working yet, then nobody will get it working if they sit together and try to figure it out.
I would think it's like that anyway.
I know that more minds working together are better than fewer. however the mic not working cant' be a simple problem if nobody has worked it out yet. I know that not all rom builders are actually programmers - many are just really comfortable with computers and with the linux os and so on. but still, with source code available, a programmer who's comfortable with that source code (and I acknowledge that I'm not - and I'm a middle aged senior software developer... but much of the android source I've glanced through so far is unreadable to me LoL...).. anyway, so if a programmer who's comfortable with that code could peruse it for a while they might well be able to solve the problem. But what I really expect is that it will take google releasing a working mic library for froyo for hero gsm piece of the puzzle somehow - maybe an internal google person building it for the community and releasing it anonymously, that has happened in the past I would guess.
so it could take time.
but maybe some genius with the android source like cyanogen will take the time and have the know how to solve the mystery. surely the hero is the #1 android phone still out there...
judging from the community here it seems really popular still.
and to think, I just got a hero a few months back (and one for my wife) because they were only $25 at future shop when we renewed our accounts and we wanted iphones but couldn't afford them LoL
if I'd known anything about android then I'd have been all over these babies without a second thought - instead I had to research and took a leap of faith that the future shop guy was steering us in the right direction (thank you future shop guy - or I mean, former future shop guy (he doesn't work there any more)!
cheers
Is there a stable Froyo with Sense out there, one based on the Evo's ROM cause I did flash a rom by avalaunch. But it was based on the desire. I didn't like that and it didn't seem as fluid. So my question is... Is there a Froyo with Sense ROM out there thats stable and based on the Evo? and if there is what features are not working (if any) thank you
So far, all the FroYo roms are missing ( at the very least ) the back camera & 4G. However DamageControl & Cyanogen should have working ROM's within the next few days. Cyanogen will be AOSP, but i think DC might be Sense UI.
I initially thought I'd want an AOSP rom but after trying them I much prefer Sense, mainly for the widgets. Lets hope DC has sense! Wouldnt that be a slap in the face to HTC devs who need until December to complete it.. and DC does it with 2 devs in their spare time?

Is there any time frame for when DC development will come out with froyo with sense ROM. I currently am running DC 3.2.3. If they release it will it be listed in DCupdater?
From what I understand Google will not let anyone release 2.2 until N1 has it for a while. HTC has no control over it. It is google's way of keeping the N1 atop of the phone ladder. The same will happen with the next version. Its google's game, we have to play by their rules.

I don't think that's true... The source code is released so anyone can compile it whenever. That's the whole point of it being open.

I've been stalking the DC thread for the past few days & it looks like they're starting to wrap things up. They didn't give an exact ETA, but based off the few comments they have made, i'd guess within the next few days ( i would love it for this weekend ), but i guess we'll just have to wait & see .

Well, not entirely. When Google is finished testing on their "standard" hardware (in this case, the Nexus One) they will designate a final version. Then, HTC needs to get hold of this final version and add support for any unique hardware or software that their devices have. Think of it like release candidates and RTM versions of Windows. PC manufacturers get hold of the release candidates and test versions so that they can develop drivers and make sure their devices all work with the new OS. Then they get the final version, tweak what needs to be tweaked, run it through bug testing, and then pass it along.
In this case, HTC has to get the final version, make sure all of their apps and drivers work, make sure it works on their phones, and then pass it to Sprint for *more* testing to make sure it plays nice with the network and performs well.

Thank you very much. Is there a approximate release date for the ROM?
Easy people.
Just so everyone's aware Mark has put his HD2 English pack up for the official MIUI from China.
I'm not going to post a direct link because I think people should actually go over to his site and support it from there...
http://www.miui-dev.com/roms/
Current Version MIUI 1.4.8 (Based on 2.3.3)
HD2 is at the bottom of that list.
Most developers on here are getting their english packs from this site and then merging them with the Chinese ROMS, some are even putting it up with no reference to Mark or his hard work (which I'm fairly sure is against the rules)
So, please support Marks site as it in turn supports all the amazing ROMS which spring up on here every week.
Peas,

I agree that the miui-dev.com do a good job to bring us a MIUI for our phones and markhuk do a good job over there.
Only problem is that the support for HD2 over there is very poor.
Reason is cos he doesn't have a HD2 phone. He own a Nexus One & Nexus S !
So most of his hard work go into this devices and not to HD2 !
So if any1 want a real support for HD2 its have to come back here anyway.

Granted the support isn't as great over there as it's a less popular site but that's beside the point. I was simply highlighting that the language packs come from a source that is rarely credited.

Why didn't you include the first CM9 that was available on xda, and the only one that has nightly builds? (Intrepresentation's originally and then picked up by tgascoigne)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661629
And I don't think Domination is really a "CM9" build, rather a Based-on-CM9 since it has many extra features and has differed significantly from a stock CM9 install (not that there is anything wrong with that).
The TeamNDVRu is the best, but the Endeavor Unleashed isn't bad

THIS.
Choice is good, naturally but too many of the same thing and it doesn't benefit anyone in the end. In principle, competition may be good but it's almost like two stores under selling each other to get the customers or the glory or what have you.
If one team comes up with a solution, and the others copy it? then who is really benefiting here? where's the innovation in other releases?
These teams should really work together and find a FINAL CM9 build and THEN based their future ROMs on this official unofficial CM9 ROM.
Looks like the G2 (Desire-Z) will not be getting CM9 stable as I have been keeping an eye on this list since last week's launch:
http://get.cm/?type=stable
Does anyone in this dev thread know why? I know there are unofficial RCs and the nightlies, but I avoid them and only go for stable. I was hoping it would get ICS stable but it appears 7.2 Gingerbread will be this device's final stable ROM.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

We don't have the needed drivers/source code HTC backed out on us. Aside from that though Mimicry is VERY stable I'd recommend flashing it!
Many roms past GB are very stable now. From Sense 4.0, to ICS, to even JB nightlies are reportedly smooth.
I use this ICS as a daily driver and it's very stable (AOKP): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642443
JB nightlies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605016 Weren't stable when I tried them, but I hear they're really good now. Might try later this week.
It all has to do with drivers being released or something from Qualcomm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822694
I don't know if it's true. The thread doesn't provide much information, maybe someone can clarify.
Are the drivers really released and being incorporated into roms? People are saying they are already being used in those JB nightlies.
As for not being out officially by CM... I don't even think they started working on it.

There are no official CM9 roms for the vision. The unofficial roms (Andromadus & the one by jerl92) are the closest thing, but they are only based on Cm9, not released by or associated with the actual Cyanogenmod team. The reason there even is a CM9 based rom is thanks to Andromadus.
That said, Mimicry will have a new version out this week based on the repo for CM9 stable. The non-device specific code anyway, the other branches are of course unofficial and not supplied by the CyanogenMod team.

Yes, the qualcomm drivers have always been incorporated into Andromadus roms as soon as they're available. Since the other roms are based on Andromadus (AOKP, jerl92's), they also incorporate the new drivers.

The word around the Cyanogenmod Google+ site is that its coming but that it will take some time given that the drivers need to basically be written from scratch. This is a list of devices that are being droppped from any further releases of CM past CM7. The vision is not included on the list so you could say there is a glimmer of hope but I guess you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Only mentions of the DesireZ/G2 in that posting is in the comment section, they're probably talking bout semi-newer devices. I still think we have a better chance of getting it 'fully' working under the Andramadus team's effort (still cM9 but probably the best it's going to be for our devices). ie: if drivers are written from scratch, it most likely won't be done by the CM team, but will probably be incorporated into their project when done.

Thats the point. Its not listed among those which are being discontinued and most of those devices are over 2 years old. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to take anything away from the Andramadus team. I'll probably end up giving mimicry a run soon. I'm just trying to point out that the door hasnt been officially shut yet on this device as far as an official cm9 build goes.
