[PATCH] T-Mobile Wifi Calling for Desire Z/G2 Gingerbread - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

Hi Gals and Gals,
Based on the Rom provided by rmk40 [ROM][04/28/11] TMOUS G2 Gingerbread 2.13.531.5 Untouched (from TEST leak), I created a patch to have the Wifi calling back on our phones
The credits come to rmk40 and unforgiven512!
Perfectly working with MIUI Gingerbread Roms like my own: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958475
Peace
Patch here:

Any difference between this wifi calling app and the froyo one? Any enhancements like routing the wifi call over to cell network when you disconnect from wifi?

it looks the same just updated

Anyone try this on any of the Sense leaks?

I just tried on MIUI...

To install, do we just flash the zip? Or extract and copy stuff over?

just flash the zip

i flashed the zip to my G2 running MIUIDEV-1.4.22 and have noticed a very peculiar problem. it connects and dials normally, but I can only hear what the other person is saying when using speakerphone. when using the regular speaker the audio drops out so much, you can only hear bits and pieces of what the other person is saying very choppy and kinda garbled, sometimes several seconds of dead air. when using speakerphone, there are no audio issues of any kind... weird...

Don't forget, the apk comes from a beta rom, it may be final or still in dev, we probably have to wait for T-Mo to release the final gingerbread version.

check the settings in the wifi calling app and make sure they are still intact. I was having that issue too, that whenever the screen went off (proximity sensor, time out) the audio would cut out.. I had to end up using titanium to restore the app data, and it worked perfectly after that.

I can confirm this patch didn't work on this rom

At first I couldn't get this patch to work on Vision Gingerbread Sense 2.30.405.1 Untouched http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12476609&postcount=1
but I'm a hardheaded sob so I flashed this Wifi Calling Patch from this rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13830197&postcount=1
Then WiFi calling was working. I'm no dev but I thought I would share so that an real dev can have a look.
I have no idea if there are any side effects.
I hope this helps

I am using [ROM][Jul 14, 2011] Vision Gingerbread Sense 2.42.405.2-WWE Untouched (from OTA).... by far my favorite choice for my G2 so far! Sense is a must have for me, and this ROM has provided the smoothest and fastest running Sense experience I've ever had on my G2.
But... it's Gingerbread, and I believe a release from out of the country, so there is no Wi-Fi calling included. I tried flashing the fix from InsertCoin that a previous poster said worked for him, but it did not install any app. Instead, my phone could no longer connect to a network at all. I had to rewipe and reflash to get my mobile network back. So, I tried the OsiMood patch, which gave me a glimmer of hope... until the app got stuck at "Enabling...." It never actually connects to the T-Mobile WiFi calling network.
I'm really hoping someone has a fix for this! Any information would be much appreciated.

Internet(Wifi and 3G) going down after screen timeout

Hey all.
My internet stops after 15min when screen is off.
Happened on leedroid and djdroid so far.
Anybody else having same issues?
BOTH wifi and 3G
forgot to say that lol

Yeah i have also had this issue on Cyanogenmod 6 roms. Defrost rom and OpenDesire rom both claim to have fixed it however neither of them are sense roms and i haven't personally tested them.
I've had that issue before with older versions of defrost and and the devillian froyo sense rom, i've changed to Pays froyo sense rom and so far havent experienced the wifi timeout

i reckon it's because of using wifi n, if you use the normal wifi g mode, meaning the unedited bcm4329.ko, it works fine without any problems... give it a go, cheers...

CyanogenMod-7 for Slide RC1 Help WIFI

Well I've asked in the normal thread no one answered. Searched and searched and no answers. I flashed RC1 to my slide and wifi goes like this connecting obtaining Ip address. disconnected. I watch the wifi symbol up top come on and go off like its actually turning off and on. I made sure sleep was never and set it to 14 channels with no differeence. I Wiped everything cashe data dvak still the same. i used clockwork and formated the data cashe and system folders and reinstalled and the same thing. If i go back to an haxspersso i connect and stay on Anyone else have this problem found the solution ?
Same here. It's not working for most of us. A few people claim it's working for them. I'm also having problems with GPS. The compass part works, but it can't find longitude and latitude.
Prepare to get torn up by people for posting in the dev section.
But address the issue, im guessing this is the first cm7 rom you've flashed. If you are the type to stay safe and only flash the stable or release candidates, then you probably dont know about the wifi issues cyanogenmod commonly has. I didnt stay on cm7 rc1 long enough to see if the wifi was broke, but its likely it is. Either wait for a stable release or try that cyanogenmod wifi fix thread i saw floating around in this dev section (though that might only apply to cm6).

Wifi and gps are working for me, I think its about half and half. You just hear about the people who have issues, not the people who don't. A select few slide owners have slightly varied hardware, makes developing for the phone a *****. If you need wifi, I would just go back to 6.1, it's your best bet.

I had this problem when flashing CM7 RC1 to both my partner's MT Slide and my MT4G.
Rebooting fixed it.
CM7 Nightly 19 only wifi working for 100%
I know I don't have 3G or EDGE soo wifi is only me
everything works on my phone...wifi,gps,bluetooth... have you flashed the new radio?
Everything works for me, but I have a question being that CM 7 has apps2sd installed how would one know what apps to put onto the sd card? And should I down the the app from market because it will alert you when you can move an app?
Thanks-
I've figured out what is going on. If i use a standard rom i can connect to my N router just perfect. I have my router set to g-n only i could not connect with CM7. i told my router it was ok to connect at 54 and it connected. got to be the drivers.

You're talking about froyo and up's built in apps2fat. It's not a cm7 feature, it's a built in google feature. It will automatically put some apps on the sd card, but you can move them in the manage applications settings menu.

First of all, go to settings>about phone, and check your baseband version. If it says 7.15 somewhere near the middle, you're good. If it says 7.09 or 7.08 or anything below 7.15, you need to update. Flash this. Or, here is Chiefz_Reloaded's direct download link.
Flash that radio update via clockwork recovery. Make sure that you have good enough battery to last you a good 5 or 10 minutes to be safe. I would say have at least a 15 or 20% charge when you flash this. If it dies in the middle, you're totally screwed, bricked phone. Basically, as long as your phone doesn't die or your battery doesn't somehow fall out, you'll be safe flashing it. Don't sweat it.
Again, you only need to do that if your baseband version has something other than 7.15 in the middle of the string.
My baseband version is 47.63.35.21U_7.15.35.16, perhaps qualify the requirement, but still I experience connection breaks on WiFi, I am on latest nightly CyanogenMod-7-02202011-NIGHTLY-Slide.

Some have issues with wifi, it's a result of the varying Slide mainboard hardware. It will probably be fixed in the final or next release candidate. A lot of people say the old build 19 worked for them, but the build #'s reset shortly after RC1 was released so I don't know where you would find it. Sorry
Bump. Mine was working for a while, but stopped. It actually was bumping off my wifi router at home and I had to reset it everytime I tried to connect the phone. It took me a while to figure out that it was the phone that was doing it. Weird.

Gee thanks for the polite tip. And gee, I hadn't thought of trying that. Or maybe I did and it's still broke. I flashed cm6.1 and it works. Again, thanks for the support.
There's a post floating around regarding a file from 6.1 flashed onto cm 7, but I fixed my issues by making my router only send out b and g signal even if it is n capable. Good luck

Major radio issues; Cannot or can hardly connect to non-Wifi internet anymore

Hello,
I’m currently having major issues with the radio I flashed. I installed Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 with Unity V4 yesterday and flashed it with the recommended radio; 26.04.02.17.
It seemed to work fine, WiFi worked and I can send/receive texts and make calls.
However, today I noticed I was unable to surf the web on my mobile data plan. A reboot didn’t help either. I also noticed that the icon was showing 3g in an area which I know doesn’t have 3g. So I rebooted again and this time I could surf the web, but very very slowly. It took 5 minutes to open the maket.
Anyway, I flashed my old, original radio back (26.03.02.26) and the problem still remained.
As a last resort I flashed the newest radio (26.10.04.03) and the problems still remain.
I also tried reflashing the stock ROM, but that didn’t make a difference either, as well as the advanced kernel from virtuous.
I’m lost. Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks !
Sorry, but this is a prime example why flashing radios isn't needed unless you are having issues related to radio functionality.
Have you tried calling your service provider and ask them if they are having issues with data or provisioning?

I totally agree and I have learned from this. What's odd is that reflashing the original, working radio now doesn't seem to work anymore either.
I didn't call them, but a friend of mine who lives in my neighberhood who has the same service provider, doesn't have any issues.
Thanks

Wifi calling

Does anyone have the problems below with Wifi Calling? If so what are your solutions or suggestions?
1) Pretty bad echo, with voice cutting in and out, seems to be an issue for me but not the person I am talking to.
2) The phone connects and just hangs up immediately when on wifi calling, I have to turn off and use the network.
I am on FreeGS3 R5 and Trinity A37 kernel.
It is really frustrating that wifi calling has issues, I rely on it heavily at work and home as T-Mobile has pretty crappy reception.

I know Samsung rushed some of these phones, I guess all S 3's are not created equal.
Looks like a lot of people have issues with wifi calling, those who don't seem to be a lucky minority.
It's flawless for me. On stock Rom and kernel. Might be an issue specific to a Rom or kernel. Maybe try and figure what it works with and what it doesn't and then we can try to track down the issue.

To be honest, WiFi calling quality has never been great for me on the many T-Mobile branded Android phones I have owned over the years. WiFi calling on my Blackberry back in the day was perfect and of superb quality.
Wifi works fine on my GSIII, though the voice quality is muddy sometimes.
Stock rom and kernal.
Two things,
How you have your router configured can have a huge impact on how well wifi calling works. Read into QoS and configure accordingly.
Second, some parts of the country are served by some back-end hardware that is having some issues.
And yes it has problems, but which other wireless carrier does it better?
Didn't have any problems on stock kernel, switched to trinity 37 and had the in and out voice, tried faux kernel and it is better again. Stock rom otherwise

mine was fine for the first couple of weeks use, but started having problems after. when i pick up a call, the screen freezes most of the time, the other times when it actually picks up the call-the other caller can't hear me but i can hear them, not to mention the echoes as well. called tmo tech support a couple of times with no avail except to tell me to do a warranty exchange of the device. i sure do miss my gs2 on this part.
Can you change WifiCalling settings?
Is it possible to change he apn etc in the wificalling function? I am UK need based and want to buy and unlock a US-T-mobile and use it with Orange UK wifi settings (and Orange sim)
Orange, the only WIFI Calling carrier here, sell the S3 without Wifi calling... If you guys have a better work around to suggest I would love to hear.
Thx!
I had issues with calls cutting out really bad when I was on FreeGS3, but I was also on Trinity 37 kernel, so that could have been it. I'm on Wicked Blue ROM now, it comes with a Trinity kernel, and my Wi-Fi calling is excellent...as is the ROM!

You know that this seems to be a kernel issues, A37 seems to have issues with wifi calling, the Wicked Blue Rom has A23. I just flashed the Faux009 kernel and tested wifi calling and no issues now.
the wifi calling really so bad, i use stock rom
Honestly I heavily rely on wifi calling and it's pretty crummy on my GS3.
It used to suck on my Sensation as well and I think I found the solution. I logged into my.t-mobile account online and updated my 911 address and voila wifi calling is always solid on the Sensation. Does not seem to have had the same impact on the GS3. Might be something worth looking into though.
If this helps let us know and hit the thanks button.
I will say that it does seem to be better after flashing the Wicked ROM (in blue). Connects faster and stays connected. Was able to answer a call the other day.

There have been some outages and such lately but there is something ****ty in the phone when it comes to wifi and wifi calling. On stock it was working ****ty at work with crappy router that was slow but everything at least connects to it. This phone wouldn't connect or stay connected and wifi calling didn't work at all. Once I tried trinity kernel 45b, it's flying. When I mean flying, I mean that my computer core i7 with 16GB of ram can't even touch it. It's not running overclocked either, just stock cpu speed but damn it's flying!!!

[Q] AOSP Known Issues?

I'm just trying to keep these straight, since I've seen bits and pieces of various problems on the various dev threads. Would someone be so kind as to check my logic here? Thanks in advance!
Problem: Can't get a GPS lock after flashing any AOSP-based 4.3 rom
Solution: Flash back to stock (RUU?), open up Maps or otherwise get a good GPS lock, flash back to your rom of choice
Burning Question: Why does this happen and why does stock flashing work?
(Idiot Newbie Question: RUU is basically a stock image? I need an encrypted version? Do I need to worry about breaking my rumrunner s-off/root?)
Problem: When on a phone call, and the other party hangs up, you get "call lost" instead of the standard graceful disconnect.
Solution: Isn't one yet. Gotta wait for a fix to be made.
Problem: Signal strength meter shows impossibly low values, despite data, voice, LTE all working as expected.
Solution: No idea. Of the 3 roms I've tried, (CM10, Liquid, Carbon), all do this. Minor problem, but anyways.
Problem: Purplish tint on the camera in dark scenes.
Solution: Phone's defective, send it in. / Or: Wait for a software patch.
Which is it?
@Karunamon
Problem 1. Not really figured out yet. All you need to do is flash any Sense rom.
Problem 2. Is fixed! For a couple of days now for any ROM built after 11th of this month.
Problem 3. I get the same dBm on Sense and AOSP. Sure a lot of other people do also. But people panic when looking at the network bars.
Problem 4. I get no purple/pink tint when on Sense but after flashing AOSP I get the purple/pink tint on my FFC. So I would wait til 4.3.
Is the issue with AOSP roms killing the radios on certain phones fixed as of the 11th?

That isn't AOSP fault. Something was happening after the s-off procedures that people need to do a factory reset from HBOOT before flashing anything to reset their radio

I s-off'd, unlocked my bootloader and rooted with no issues. I was stock rooted and everything functioned. As soon as I flashed an AOSP rom, the radio broke. I had data, but no voice. (You posted in a thread I started and helped me fix my radio)
I'm not trying to argue or anything, just trying to understand.
Are you saying that I should now be able to flash an AOSP rom and have no radio issues now since I reflashed the stock recovery to fix the radio, then flashed back to TWRP?

I really think you can go back to an AOSP rom. I have no problems and tons of other people with no problems. I noticed that the guys who s-off with sonic didn't have these issues. That is just why I think it is something with the whole current s-off process.
But if you do decide to give AOSP another try. I would flash when you have about a hour of free time with a computer just to make sure it doesn't crap out again.
Does one need to have the stock recovery to reset from Hboot?

Excellent, seems I just need to dig up a sense rom and then reflash something new and i'll be good on 1 and 2.
Any idea what could be causing 3, though? For comparison, when I was on stock, the meter was completely full for LTE in my home. Now, it's one bar. Coverage is still good though and data still works at breakneck speeds, so I don't think it's an actual signal issue.

check DBM isntead of looking at your bars to see if you even have an issue.
The signal issue sounds the same as AOSP on the Rezound. The signal strength would be same, but the signal icon would be different. Basically, HTC has set the icons to show more than AOSP.
I didn't factory reset after using rumrunner and the only thing I have noticed was I would not connect to 4g as much or as fast as before. It seems to be getting better though. I am running bonestock.

Like it was explained to me the bars are kinda like the idiot lights on a cars dash. They really don't do much. Aosp shows your true signal and sense and so on shows a false truth just so people doesn't complain about poor signal. As long as my data works I don't care if I have zero bars.

No issues using a Bluetooth headset here.
Can't say anything about Bluetooth audio streaming, haven't tried that yet.

IR is working on VanirAOSP.
I'm using Smart IR Remote to control my devices; great interface and works well with the majority of the stuff that I have.
Not sure what the progress is re: IR with the other AOSP ROMs.
With smart ir remote it should work on any Rom.

Did this happen using twrp or cwm? Some folks are thinking its cwm causing this.

This happened to people who hardware s-off'd and flashed the gpe rom too. Don't think it has anything to do with it.
