I'm just trying to keep these straight, since I've seen bits and pieces of various problems on the various dev threads. Would someone be so kind as to check my logic here? Thanks in advance!
Problem: Can't get a GPS lock after flashing any AOSP-based 4.3 rom
Solution: Flash back to stock (RUU?), open up Maps or otherwise get a good GPS lock, flash back to your rom of choice
Burning Question: Why does this happen and why does stock flashing work?
(Idiot Newbie Question: RUU is basically a stock image? I need an encrypted version? Do I need to worry about breaking my rumrunner s-off/root?)
Problem: When on a phone call, and the other party hangs up, you get "call lost" instead of the standard graceful disconnect.
Solution: Isn't one yet. Gotta wait for a fix to be made.
Problem: Signal strength meter shows impossibly low values, despite data, voice, LTE all working as expected.
Solution: No idea. Of the 3 roms I've tried, (CM10, Liquid, Carbon), all do this. Minor problem, but anyways.
Problem: Purplish tint on the camera in dark scenes.
Solution: Phone's defective, send it in. / Or: Wait for a software patch.
Which is it?
@Karunamon
Problem 1. Not really figured out yet. All you need to do is flash any Sense rom.
Problem 2. Is fixed! For a couple of days now for any ROM built after 11th of this month.
Problem 3. I get the same dBm on Sense and AOSP. Sure a lot of other people do also. But people panic when looking at the network bars.
Problem 4. I get no purple/pink tint when on Sense but after flashing AOSP I get the purple/pink tint on my FFC. So I would wait til 4.3.
Is the issue with AOSP roms killing the radios on certain phones fixed as of the 11th?

That isn't AOSP fault. Something was happening after the s-off procedures that people need to do a factory reset from HBOOT before flashing anything to reset their radio

I s-off'd, unlocked my bootloader and rooted with no issues. I was stock rooted and everything functioned. As soon as I flashed an AOSP rom, the radio broke. I had data, but no voice. (You posted in a thread I started and helped me fix my radio)
I'm not trying to argue or anything, just trying to understand.
Are you saying that I should now be able to flash an AOSP rom and have no radio issues now since I reflashed the stock recovery to fix the radio, then flashed back to TWRP?

I really think you can go back to an AOSP rom. I have no problems and tons of other people with no problems. I noticed that the guys who s-off with sonic didn't have these issues. That is just why I think it is something with the whole current s-off process.
But if you do decide to give AOSP another try. I would flash when you have about a hour of free time with a computer just to make sure it doesn't crap out again.
Does one need to have the stock recovery to reset from Hboot?

Excellent, seems I just need to dig up a sense rom and then reflash something new and i'll be good on 1 and 2.
Any idea what could be causing 3, though? For comparison, when I was on stock, the meter was completely full for LTE in my home. Now, it's one bar. Coverage is still good though and data still works at breakneck speeds, so I don't think it's an actual signal issue.

check DBM isntead of looking at your bars to see if you even have an issue.
The signal issue sounds the same as AOSP on the Rezound. The signal strength would be same, but the signal icon would be different. Basically, HTC has set the icons to show more than AOSP.
I didn't factory reset after using rumrunner and the only thing I have noticed was I would not connect to 4g as much or as fast as before. It seems to be getting better though. I am running bonestock.

Like it was explained to me the bars are kinda like the idiot lights on a cars dash. They really don't do much. Aosp shows your true signal and sense and so on shows a false truth just so people doesn't complain about poor signal. As long as my data works I don't care if I have zero bars.

IR is working on VanirAOSP.
I'm using Smart IR Remote to control my devices; great interface and works well with the majority of the stuff that I have.
Not sure what the progress is re: IR with the other AOSP ROMs.
With smart ir remote it should work on any Rom.

I'm kinda at the end of my rope trying to find a non-stock ROM that doesn't break GPS. I've tried several so far. I can't use any CM7 ROM or anything based off CM7, as GPS is useless. Recently I tried MIUI Bulletproof and loved it, but sure enough, GPS would lose signal during GPS Navigation. The only ROMs that consistently have fully functional GPS for me are the rooted Gingerbread official release and some variations like G-Lite.
There's nothing wrong with these ROMs, but I'd like to run something that has the insane speed and increased functionality that the awesome devs here and elsewhere create. It just get frustrating finding a cool new ROM, loving all the features, then finding that, as always, GPS constantly drops connection or fails to lock at all. I've done all the tricks like efs_wipe and even a proposed workaround bug fix in the General section, but no joy as of yet. So I'm back to vanilla 2.3.4. Nothing exciting, but GPS is flawless. Anyone have any tips of ROMs I may have not tried where I can get best of both worlds? Figured it won't hurt to ask.
Interesting. I'm running CM 7 and my GPS has been working fine. Assuming you did a full wipe between installs and all that recommended stuff?
Yup, I always do a Superwipe+ that does a good scrub as well as wipes the efs partitions. Plus I manually wipe the Dalvic cache. From what I've gathered, random G2 users just cannot avoid GPS problems running anything that isn't stock. CM7 and MIUI give me major GPS woes, whereas stock ROMs give me no issues whatsoever. I've been trying to get to the bottom of this since January and not much luck.
Are you sure u got no hardware problems with ur phone/gps?
My gps is working very good @cm7!
I got the same issue you said with me hd2... gps got lost, never found gps, phone freezes @navigation...
The end of the story was that my hd2 has to be repaired by HTC.

I feel like you're not going to get anywhere with this, since you've obviously tried ROMs that work fine for others. I had problems with GPS on CM7 before, but a efs wipe (and performing Superwipe+ thereafter) fixed any and all issues. The only thing I can think of is to try CM7 nightlies off of CWM (a few user reviews under each) instead of the release. I'm on nightly 204, and everything from GPS, to performance, to battery life is flawless. There's always the option of getting the G2 replaced and trying again.
Good luck!

Exactly. Since GPS works perfectly with stock ROMs, I have to rule out hardware problems. If it was a problem across the board, I'd already have a replacement in hand. The only thing I have not tried yet is RIL matching. Can anyone link me to it? I know the dev who had it up on these boards left XDA and took all his stuff with him. Not sure what it involves or if it may potentially help, but maybe worth a shot. I've tried flashing a few different radios and am now on the "official" radio that came with latest OTA update.

Thanks for the links. I've tried efs wipe several times. Done it manually via terminal emulator and flashed the zip/superwipe+. I'll look into the RIL matching. The GPS config options appear to be specific to Verizon and the Samsung Captivate, so not sure if that one is an option for me. Thanks again for linking me to all this.

Changing the GPS server should work for any ROM,Im using unity and in the uk so not carrier specific just a matter of opening a file and changing the server values,
Luckily I've never had any serious problems with my GPS so I'm running out of ideas, there is also an app called GPS status is useful but if wiping the efs data is not helping then not sure if the app will help, best of luck finding a solution
You should check out the latest "unofficial" ILWT CM7 212b by tsubus. He includes an option to use stock HTC GPS drivers. I updated my radio to. 30, and flashed 212b (which includes the efs data wipe) and my GPS works flawlessly now. Highly recommend it. Link is in my signature.
All features are now part of/options in version 213, and all subsequent releases. Seriously, it's worth a shot...

I don't think you understand what I said. Sense shows the wrong wifi signal. It shows 3 bars for me while aosp shows 1. Aosp shows true signal because I am far from the router
Having trouble with AOSP? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295702
Are you using the included kernel or flashing custom ones? While your signal may show lower, you shouldn't notice a drop in actual connectivity. Flashing an incompatible kernel, like a Sense kernel, can mess up your wifi.
I'm on MIUI right now showing a full wifi signal. I haven't used Sense in a very long time, but I don't remember getting better wifi reception while I was using it. I'm using Tiamat right now, maybe try a different kernel next time you flash AOSP and see if that helps. There are also a few tweaks you can do to help with your wifi signal, like changing the wifi scan interval in build.prop, but I haven't actually done anything like that since my signal is fine.

I've heard that 004s can be problematic, I have a 003 and only get issues when I go a while without wiping fully. I'm using 4.1.0 right now, start there and maybe try other versions if you want. I ran SZ for a while and it started off smooth but eventually got laggy and unresponsive at times despite anything I would do (wiping caches, etc). Switched back to Tiamat and all has been working well since.
Give it a go, if it doesn't work for you then maybe it's some kind of hardware issue. Just to be sure, do a full wipe and try to avoid restoring anything unless you absolutely have to - definitely don't restore system data. Unfortunately you can't take your phone in to Sprint and get a replacement since your wifi is dodgy on AOSP. If it happened on stock then you might have a case.

i used to have a problem like this, click in the link in my sig and go to the Q&A section in it and follow the steps on how to fix the wifi issue. if you have any questions or anything feel free to post it in that thread. hope i helped ^_^
I searched and didnt find anything that seemed to be the same topic.
I updated to 4.0.4, MoDaCo custom lr11 (lMM30B) from the factory ota 4.0.2 because it sucked. Now everything seems to work great but the wifi distance seems to have dropped. In places where my iphone and this phone on .2 had 3 to 4 bars on wifi the .4 now struggles to hold 1 bar. In my room with the router about 8 feet away I get 1 or 2 bars and only get all 4 when its within 2 feet. Any free wifi spot that I have saved and used to use perfectly is pretty much gone now. I wouldn't make a big deal of it but the area I am usually in most of the day is extended for me so I don't have 3 or 4g access.
Anyone know of a fix.
ty in advance

You need to change your baseband to a later version. There are issues if you have the old one while running a rom based on 4.0.3 or above.

Howdy Folks!
I recently got a SGH-I927 that is locked to AT&T.
I have read what I believe is all the relevant data about how to do the things I want, and I think I have it down, but I want to make sure I have everything exactly correct. I still have 6 days left with Virgin Mobile before I have to have all this done.
What I want to do...
Root
Back up my EFS
Update from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4
Carrier Unlock from AT&T so I can use a T-Mobile MVNO.
So my question is- is this the best order to do things in? I know I have to root before I can Unlock the phone or Backup my EFS, but I notice that there are two different methods for Rooting. I can root before I update to ICS or after. Does it make a difference? Which method is easier, which one is more reliable/safer? I also noticed that Unlocking the phone after updating to ICS requires an extra step, so that would be another factor.
Kies seems to be working, and when I plugged my phone in, it offered to update me from 2.3.6 (Baseband Ver I927UCKL1) to 4.04 (Baseband Ver I927UCLJ3), so it doesn't seem like updating will be a problem.
Are there any major issues with version two of the ICS update? I have read a lot of people that had issues with the first version of ICS that got released, and I know AT&T pulled it as an OTR update, but haven't heard a lot about version two. The people who have it are you satisfied with it? Did anyone prefer Gingerbread?
Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if these questions have been answered already, I really did read through a LOT of information before posting here, and haven't seen these answered.
You don't need to root to unlock the phone. You just need to insert a code you buy from a seller on the internet.
I'm running the ULCHJ version of ICS and it works fine. I experienced the same GPS issue i had in GB, but the same fix worked it out and it I'm totally happy with it.
I can say, hope i won't regret, that there's nothing i should fix so far. Some minor issues were fixed as soon as i went through, I'm quite satisfied with this ROM now.

certainly get a code and use dmans uclj3 deodexed rooted as the stable rom.. then you can use es explorer to modify sirgps.conf and gps.conf to get your gps working. before i switched to cm10.1 JB I was running it with no issues and instant GPS lock in all apps.
I will likely switch back as I have a new hands free stereo for my car that I would like to legally take advantage of

I can say, hope i won't regret, that there's nothing i should fix so far. Some minor issues were fixed as soon as i went through, I'm quite satisfied with this ROM now.

Cool, thanks for giving your opinion. How good is your battery life?

hi dark blaidd, welcome to glide!
if i were to do it over again i would backup my efs via adb on my computer before rooting or anything.

Sounds like a good idea, I will do that.
i used fastgsm to unlock my phone which is a codeless way to unlock and i suspect its how i lost my imei

Noted, I will stay away from fastgsm. I think I am going to do this or GalaxSim Unlock.
certainly get a code and use dmans uclj3 deodexed rooted as the stable rom.. then you can use es explorer to modify sirgps.conf and gps.conf to get your gps working. before i switched to cm10.1 JB I was running it with no issues and instant GPS lock in all apps.

I can't believe I am about to say this, I have spent the last two years on custom ROMs, but I think I am fine with stock for now. The ROMs for the Glide look promising, but I MUST have Camera and Bluetooth, so I will probably wait until those issues get ironed out. There is also a chance that Samsung will update us to Jellybean, they just released an update for the Galaxy S2, so it's possible.
let us know if you run into issues you will need to do a few searches.

Thanks! I believe I have done enough research to do what I want, so hopefully I won't make any dumb mistakes.

Don't bother with ICS, the official ROM has issues and we never did much dev at that level. Go to CM10.1 once you have the ICS bootloader.
Carrier Unlock from AT&T so I can use a T-Mobile MVNO.

About that... AT&T phones, even once unlocked, cannot use UMTS or HSPA+ on T-Mobile's network. It's a physical limitation of the radio. ONLY do this if you already KNOW you will be happy with EDGE.

I'm in same boat here I guess. Just ordered a Glide, looking forward to having a physical keyboard again since my TP2 days. I was checking out the ROM options, found the link for "Stock UCLJ3 Rom" and it looks like that is the way go, other than maybe just staying stock... I need Bluetooth, Camera, GPS, and Tethering to work, so I guess I won't be messing around with anything fancy.
So don't do any OTA upgrade at all when I first get it out of the box? Just back it up, then root, and install UCLJ3 via CWM? Is this the best choice?

Doesn't CM10.1 still have issues, like with bluetooth, GPS, and camera?

There is not and never has been GPS problems that actually affect normal use. I don't know where people are getting that from. There's some anomalies in the data returned, but nothing that's actually used by the location API.
Bluetooth itself works, but there are some audio layer problems that interfere with headsets/earpieces and the like. (TBH our whole audio layer is a mess right now.) Stuff like OBEX and tethering should work fine.
Speaking of audio layer issues... there's still a longstanding bug where if userspace (i.e. an app; normal cell network phonecalls are fine) opens the microphone, audio output is corrupted. The biggest problem caused by this is the other person is basically unintelligible when calling in Skype. That and Bluetooth audio routing are really the only big problems we still have.
The camera was fixed months and months and months ago. I discovered the original fix even. There was a problem with audio in the video recorder that has now been solved recently.

OK, so then just the random app microphone and bluetooth issues still remain... So you still say it's worth it? I'm leaning towards the debloated rooted stock as I'm just lazy and want everything to work.

Official ICS was something of a ****storm, as Samsung never did get it to work quite right. There was a myriad of weird keyboard issues, intermittent radio problems, and come to think of it, I think I know where the GPS thing came from... official ROMs have lethargic GPS if you're not on AT&T. I'd say 99% of power users with a Glide are on one build/variant or the other of CM10.1 because it's the most problem-free ROM that's not, ugh, Gingerbread.
The primary value of official ICS to us was the kernel sources and RIL blobs -- the last few critical bits and pieces we needed to make our own ROMs and properly connect them to all the phone hardware.
I'd say, once you have everything backed up:
Flash official ICS UCLJ3 (for the bootloader and baseband)
Flash CWM over the top of it
Use CWM to flash the current CM10.1 build and gapps. Call it good.

Ok great, thanks for the explanation/breakdown So if there is an OTA update that pops up right out of the box, do I do it or skip it? And I'll have to root before flashing the UCLJ3, right?

Might as well, as if it happens to be UCLJ3, well, it just did Step 1 for you, and if not, well, it doesn't matter either way.
You don't really need root for any of this since our bootloader is unlocked OOB.

Damn it, that really sucks. Thank you so much for letting me know that, you saved me some headaches.
Edit: I did some digging around to get a technical explanation of this issue and stumbled across some unexpectedly good news, I can use HSPA+ on T-MO, well halfway at least, I'm going to make a new post as a public service.
Hello,
I have flashed Madhi-ROM 4.4.2 yesterday night and it had LTE working properly. Today, I ran into an issue where it would no longer connect to data at all. I have reflashed the stock rom and updated profile and prl then reflashed Madhi-rom 4.4.2 and at the screen "Activate mobile data service", it just keeps running and occasionally make a call to activate mobile data which ends up failing. I don't know if this is a common issue, but I'd like my mobile data to work. Other than this issue, I think its a very nice rom. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh okay
Seems like some people have been having 4G connection issues not only with Mahdi but other Roms as well.
Here are some of the suggestions:
Toggle Airplane mode for 10 seconds then turn off
Dirty flash ROM again
Return to stock and update PRL then reflash custom ROM
Keep data connection at 3G and live with it
You can also try flashing and comparing the Gee version vs. the ls970 version
It's hit or miss with this phone. No rhyme or reason for no consistency for such a basic requirement
I'm sure more experienced members will offer more suggestions
Hope this helps
Yeah, LTE is extremely sketchy on AOSP ROMs, Gee or LS970. Since the connection is just so inconsistent, I've found that the best thing to do is, as listed above, toggle airplane mode on/off, reflashing, or just sticking with 3G. 4G works flawlessly on stock LG ROMs though.

Thank you guys for the help. I tried all the fixes above with no luck. I have reverted back to the stock rom since I rather have my mobile data working than run an AOSP rom.

I believe I've struck gold with the latest Dirty Unicorn ROM!
Everything works: 4G, GPS, yes and even google calendar.
At first, I could only get 3G then one of options was just to simply display 4G instead of LTE in status bar then viola, 4G!
Probably just coincidence but I am one happy dude!
Might want to give DU a try

Have you tried SuperNexus? Honestly heard nothing but good things about this rom as long as the installation instructions are followed exactly. LTE, GPS, Bluetooth, and battery life are all working from what i've heard, you might wanna give it a try.
