Thanks for responding. Everytime I choose recovery, it just brings me back to the white screen with hboot, bootloader, recovery, fast load, etc...
Is there something that I am not seeing? I tried downloading a rom on another SD card from a different EVO and then using that SD card to flash on my EVO...but still stuck on the the same white screen....

That is not what I meant. Go to the link below and download the PC36IMG.zip file for amon RA recovery v2.3 and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folder).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Afterwards, shut down your device. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text will scroll across the screen and then the bootloader *should* automatically detect the zip and prompt you to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds. Afterwards, reboot into your new recovery and then go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it EXCEPT your SD card. After that, flash the rom you want to use. Be patient during the initial boot after flashing the rom.

Posted in error!

I've never flashed anything from anywhere but the recovery so I'm a bit lost. I downloaded the ADB tools and now trying to figure out how to use them. I will try and put RA recovery through ADB....Thanks again for your help and I will let you know if I can figure out ADB.

It doesn't get any easier than the instructions posted in my previous post. All you have to do is download the file from the link I posted and put the file on the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader screen. The bootloader will basically do it for you. Anyway, I hope everything works out for you. If not, let us know and we will continue to try to assist. Take care.

Thanks...It sounds easy enough. The only thing I do not know how to do is put the file on the root of my SD card...Is that what ADB is for? Do I need to do anything special to install ADB? Sorry, just brand new to this.

Attach your device to your computer via USB, when your computer recognizes the device, you should see an additional disk drive showing in your computer's file explorer. If you have a Mac, a disk drive will appear on the desktop. Simply copy the file over to it. Do not put it in any folder. It is that simple, my friend.

Gotcha...My pc is not recognizing my EVO...nothing pops up when I plug in. I am downloading the drivers now...maybe that will fix it?

The hboot drivers from unrevoked should let the pc detect the evo.

Thank you for helping teh roxxorz. I really appreciate it. I'm in the middle of packing for my move back to Orlando before dawn in the morning and I would appreciate it if you could take over from here. I've been trying to assist the OP between breaks but now I need to finish up before forcing myself to get to bed early. Thanks again and take care.

Yea I can take over...also, have a safe move.

you could also take the sd card out of ur evo... and put it in a micro sd adapter and stick it right in ur computer, (thats if u have a card reader and a microsd adapter) but then u can put the file on the sd card that way, then stick it back in ur evo and bam, follow the instructions

Thanks again for your help...I'm a lot further than I was last night. I installed the htc drivers and still cannot see my SD card anywhere on my pc. I don't have a micro SD adapter.
Is there something I should download from unrevoked?

I downloaded and installed the unrevoked hboot drivers and still cannot see the SD card on my PC. I can hear it connect and disconnect but cannot access or even see it. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

[Q] problems trying to get rid of superuser

I am having troble unrooting an evo 4g. I got to the s-on part, but can't get the phone to recognize the PC36IMG.zip file. I've tried a couple of these ruu files, thinking that most of those might not be working properly. The ultimate goal, really, is to get rid of the superuser permissions. I am trying to sent the phone back to Sprint and am afraid that they might see it. I've tried downloading Terminal Emulator. However, everytime i put rm superuser.apk, the response i get is that it can not be done because it's a read-only file. any suggestions?
if the s lock is on you wont be able to get rid of it. How are you trying to get it to read the PC36IMG.zip because if you have it on the root of your sd card and restart into bootloader it will automatically read the zip and ask to flash it if not just do a clear storage and that should solve it

You need to run ruu now that you're S on. As was noted already, the PC36IMG must be on the main directoryof your SD card. Also, make sure the file isn't named PC36IMG.zip.zip. If you're using windows, then the file extension is hidden, and the .zip is already there, just hidden. Therefore, if you add a .zip, then its really there twice. So using windows, it should just look like PC36IMG. Once its named correctly, and on the main directory of your SD card, the bootloader should detect it and ask you to update.

Copy all of the data on your sdcard to your pc desktop and then reformat the card. Now place the RUU file on the root of the sdcard and if the phone doesnt recognize it in the bootloader menu, then it might mean your sdcard isnt "good" enough. I had the same problem with a class 2 card and i had to buy a whole new sdcard for it to work.
I've checked and made sure that the file name is right. When i put the phone in bootloader it doesn't recognize anything. nothing pop up to ask yes/ no.
Like I said, read my previous post. Format the card and try again. If it doesnt work, then try it with another sdcard.
Also, do you think it would be a problem to send in the phone with superuser on it still?
p.s. i tried to get it out after i re-rooted it and the s was off.
Thank you for the helps.
You can't send the phone in rooted period. Flash that unrevoked s-on utility again to get it back to s-on. Borrow somebodies sdcard and put the RUU file on it. Then flash the RUU in bootloader when the phone recognizes it. I STRONGLY believe that its your sdcard acting funny because it happened to me too.

I agree. If the OP is sure the file is on the main directory of his card, and its named properly, yet it wont read it...then formatting the card would also be my recommendation.

Help! Trying to go back to stock.

Got to this part, but I don't get a message asking me to update:
Option 2: Download THIS FILE (172.5MB) and place it on the root of your SD card. Reboot your phone into HBOOT (Bootloader, NOT RECOVERY!!!). Once the bootloader checks the image, it will ask you if you want to update. Select Yes and let the update run. After the phone reboots, you will have a stock, factory Droid Incredible running the November update.
I put the file on my sd card, shut the phone down, booted into HBOOT, but I don't get any message.
Is your SD card formatted fat32? Also make sure the file is named exactly PB31IMG.zip
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Just renamed it and still nothing.
Did you plug your phone in and verify that the card is formatted fat32? And also that its on the root of the SD card?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Also you have to select bootloader.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
How do I check if its fat32? Also, I don't see an option for bootloader. Just fastboot, recovery, and a couple other things.
And its definitely on the root of the sd card. I've flashed many roms.
I don't know about "selecting" bootloader, you just boot into bootloader by holding power and volume down and it checks for PB31IMG.zip and when it finds it asks you to apply. I'm on a macbook but it should be similar in windows, plug your phone into your computer, find your SD card and right click, "get info", and you should see the format.

Common problem is the zip is inside of a zip make sure the image file isn't PB31IMG.zip.zip or something weird like that check out Doug Piston site he has the correct files

[Q] did ruu to newest, when sd card mounts it crashes???? help please

can anyone pm me and help me get my phone running. phone has been restarting like mad for the past week, lived with it till i had some time off to fix, thinking if i redo everything the problem will go away. wanted to go back stock and then re root or try virusroms gengersense. did one of the ruu installs on a page here and did it line by line with amon ra's latest. now when the phone boots, it loads up and the swipe down to unlock screen shows up, when the sd card mounts, it crashes. what did i do wrong? (other than mess up my phone, ha.)
if i posted this in the wrong area, let me know.
thanks.
Reboot into recovery, attach your EVO to your computer and then select the MS-USB option in recovery. If your SD card mounts, it *should* show up on your computer. If it does, copy the contents of the card onto your computer. Afterwards, format the card while in recovery. After that copy a freshly downloaded rom you want to flash and put it on the card. Go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it except the SD card. After that, flash the rom.

thanks for the reply, ok first thing i noticed, when i usb-ms and looked at my sd card there was nothing in it except lost.dir and the zip for the ruu i just did. where did all the other files go. and is that the probem?
No. It just means that somehow your card was formatted.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
The good thing is that your card was mountable. Do me a favor and download the stock odexed 3.70 rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251 and flash it.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
thanks, downloading...
You're welcome, while you're downloading, go ahead and reformat your SD card. You can do it from within recovery. Afterwards, copy the rom to the card and flash it.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
crap, it's not seeing my phone now when i plug it in.
ok, got computer to see phone, gonna put rom in and flash. wait one..
Shut down your device, remove the card and then reinsert it making sure it is seated properly. After that, simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text will scroll across the screen. After that, options will be made available and one of them is "recovery". Select it and your phone *should* reboot into recovery. Forgive me for being detailed, but someone else may be experiencing the same thing but have little experience with their device and root stuff.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
Okay, disregard my last post.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
be detailed as you need. no worries here, still nothing, flashed and booted phone up, got to the same swype to unlock, swyped, white htc screen and it crashed and crashed again. thinking about throwing it against the wall.... ha.
The only thing we haven't done is repartition and reformat the SD card. Might as well give it a try. Go into recovery and format the card placing all parameters to 0. Make sure you backup of the card's contents onto your computer first. After you've repartitioned & reformatted the card, reinsert it and boot your device.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
I'll check this thread in the morning...GOD willing...I'm preparing for bed. I hope that formatting & repartitioning your card fixes the problem. Take care and good night....
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
sigh...... after all of last night, finally gave up around midnight, pulled my battery and set the phone off to the side. got up this morning and it booted up, didnt crash, accecpted the rom and works great. wtf... nothing worked yesterday. flashed myns warm and it would crash at the same point, swype down to unlock, white htc screen, crash. i dont frikkin get it. thanks for your help, again. will keep you posted.
LOL...I've seen weirder things happen, my friend. Still, a clean install, a full wipe as well as re-partitioning and re-formatting the SD card can do wonders. I doubt you will have any more problems. I do, however, suggest that, at your convenience, go into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik and create a nandroid backup. Select both the sdext and android.secure ina additional to the default selections to be backed up, just I case. Take care.
posting & replying via the XDA Premium app.
well here's an update... phone ran fine for about eight hours and crashed, boot looped, ect.
flashed myn's warm, booted it up and it worked......for 5 min, crash, boot loop, whtie htc screen ect. arrrrrgggghhhh. unrooted and took it to sprint. new one will be in tomorrow.
thanks for your help doug. appreciate the time you spent.
next round is on me.

[Q] Help with Virtuous Unity

I've been trying to flash the Rom onto my phone, however every time I try It goes through all the install processes and says that is complete, but when I reboot the system it shows me the HTC Splash screen goes black shows me the splash screen again and then throws me back into Clockwork. I have cleared the cache and did a factory reset. So does anyone know what could be the problem?
I had the same problem... you actually need th DZ h-boot..
Im currently changin the boot but im having a problem with it.. ill let you know how it goes after im done with this problem.
I found something about the DZ H-Boot, but I have no Idea how to use ADK to get it on my phone, is there a guide that doesn't assume you know how to use it, or a way to do it without ADK?
www.virtuousrom.com
read it. follow directions.
to learn more about the SDK, check the wiki. there's a complete guide on how to install/set up your computer for ADB push.
I searched all over the wiki and can not find anything about setting up for a ADB Push.
just Google it or Bing it or duck it . there are guides all over the internet for different platforms .

You don't necessarily need ADB to flash the DZ hboot to the G2 I tried this method and it worked flawlessly...
Credit to codemonkey10 for the step by step process..
You need the DZ H-Boot... the rom wont run or install unless you have it. here is how to install it on your phone (guessing its a g2) without having to use adb... (and here is the dz hboot download... http://files.virtuousrom.com/vision/misc/PC10IMG.zip)
Do a full nandroid backup before any of this, and you will need an sd card reader....
Download the h-boot and move it to the root of your sd card.
Turn the phone off and turn it back on by holding volume down and power.
You’ll be ask if you want to update, press volume up to proceed.
After your done you be asked press power to reboot, press it.
You should will see the white HTC screen, wait 5-10 seconds then pull battery.
Pull sd card out of phone, and place in a card reader.
Delete the PC10IMG file (dz hboot) and put the sd card back in the phone.
Then hold volume down and power to go to bootloader
Once in bootloader go to recovery
Do not wipe anything because the new h-boot wiped everything
In recovery go to install zip from sd card
Then, choose zip from sd card
Find the Virtuous Unity Rom in the sd card.
Choose it and wait for it to install
Once it is finished choose reboot now.

Recovery mode and file transfering

Hello.. I accidentally erased all data in both internal and external card. I can boot recovery mode. Is there a way to trasfer files from pc to the phone on recovery mode in order to trasnfer a rom to flash? When o connect it apperas adb interface, something like that but i cannot see the phone.
Wouldn't it be easier to just take memory card out and use a card reader to put a rom straight onto the memory card. Think that should work

If your using cwm. Make a folder on your sd card like this
Clockworkmod/backup/ then copy and paste your file in there.. reboot to recovery and choose restore from external. You may need to do a full wipe if its an older backup.

Read through that. It's basically an interface for you to plug your phone via USB to your computer and pass commands to it (and read info). By running ADB logcat, you can then see what's going on in your phone, in real time.
Doing so, you should be able to find out (or at least paste here) what errors are occurring.
It's a sensible first step, before resorting to wiping or imaging.
