Recovery mode and file transfering - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.. I accidentally erased all data in both internal and external card. I can boot recovery mode. Is there a way to trasfer files from pc to the phone on recovery mode in order to trasnfer a rom to flash? When o connect it apperas adb interface, something like that but i cannot see the phone.

Wouldn't it be easier to just take memory card out and use a card reader to put a rom straight onto the memory card. Think that should work

If your using cwm. Make a folder on your sd card like this
Clockworkmod/backup/ then copy and paste your file in there.. reboot to recovery and choose restore from external. You may need to do a full wipe if its an older backup.

Read through that. It's basically an interface for you to plug your phone via USB to your computer and pass commands to it (and read info). By running ADB logcat, you can then see what's going on in your phone, in real time.
Doing so, you should be able to find out (or at least paste here) what errors are occurring.
It's a sensible first step, before resorting to wiping or imaging.

Thanks for responding. Everytime I choose recovery, it just brings me back to the white screen with hboot, bootloader, recovery, fast load, etc...
Is there something that I am not seeing? I tried downloading a rom on another SD card from a different EVO and then using that SD card to flash on my EVO...but still stuck on the the same white screen....
That is not what I meant. Go to the link below and download the PC36IMG.zip file for amon RA recovery v2.3 and place it on the root of your SD card (not in any folder).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Afterwards, shut down your device. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. After a short pause, a few lines of text will scroll across the screen and then the bootloader *should* automatically detect the zip and prompt you to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds. Afterwards, reboot into your new recovery and then go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it EXCEPT your SD card. After that, flash the rom you want to use. Be patient during the initial boot after flashing the rom.

It doesn't get any easier than the instructions posted in my previous post. All you have to do is download the file from the link I posted and put the file on the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader screen. The bootloader will basically do it for you. Anyway, I hope everything works out for you. If not, let us know and we will continue to try to assist. Take care.

Thanks...It sounds easy enough. The only thing I do not know how to do is put the file on the root of my SD card...Is that what ADB is for? Do I need to do anything special to install ADB? Sorry, just brand new to this.
Attach your device to your computer via USB, when your computer recognizes the device, you should see an additional disk drive showing in your computer's file explorer. If you have a Mac, a disk drive will appear on the desktop. Simply copy the file over to it. Do not put it in any folder. It is that simple, my friend.

Yea I can take over...also, have a safe move.
you could also take the sd card out of ur evo... and put it in a micro sd adapter and stick it right in ur computer, (thats if u have a card reader and a microsd adapter) but then u can put the file on the sd card that way, then stick it back in ur evo and bam, follow the instructions
Thanks again for your help...I'm a lot further than I was last night. I installed the htc drivers and still cannot see my SD card anywhere on my pc. I don't have a micro SD adapter.
Is there something I should download from unrevoked?
I downloaded and installed the unrevoked hboot drivers and still cannot see the SD card on my PC. I can hear it connect and disconnect but cannot access or even see it. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

[Q] Cannot format virtual SD card

I am trying to wipe my virtual SD card on my LTE Galaxy Nexus and it is acting weird.
If I do a factory reset via the settings on the phone, it says it erases all of the files on the SD card. When I hook the phone up to my computer and view the files in explorer, it shows a stock directory structure and root. However, if I try and copy over a file that existed on the SD card before formatting, it says the file is already there and asks me if I want to replace it. If I view the SD card in root explorer, it shows all of the old folders and files, even though they dont show up in windows explorer. Also, if I boot into Clockwork and choose a .zip to flash, it shows all of the old folders and files as well.
I have tried using the super wipe lite script that comes with Android revolution. I have also factory reset the phone a few times via the settings. I previously had Android Revolution installed and I am currently running GummyNex 0.4.2.
No matter what I do, I cannot for the life of me get the SD card to truly reformat.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there an ADB command I can do to reformat it?

There isn't any "SD Card" partition.
EDIT: Format /data cannot be done in adb, if you really want to do so just make a CWMR flashable zip with
Code:
format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/userdata", "0");
in the updater-script.
I'm sorry man, I really appreciate the help but my Google-fu has failed me. Is there a template or something I can create the script from?

If you are having an issue finding your files from your PC it's due to the way Android exposes your "internal sdcard" via MTP. Download an app from the Market called SDrescan which will force the media services on your phone to re-index your files on the phone. Then they will show up on your PC.
thanks, but i've already tried that. it just sits on "scanning" for literally hours (i left it up overnight once just to make sure). any other advice?

I do not recommend doing this indeed. To be failsafe just delete everything in the /sdcard folder with an explorer app.
I use
fastboot /w
To do a full wipe. This will wipe /sdcard.

Are you on a ROM and/or modified kernel? If you are using Franco's kernel he has made modifications to how the "sdcard" works.

You don't have mounts and storage option in cwm?
Or you don't have mount USB storage?
I just checked and I have it.
If you can't mount the storage then chances are you will have to flash stock images via fastboot.
Do you have the Android SDK package? If so you can adb push it to your sdcard.
Could also try Droid Explorer, QTadb, et al, although I've never used those particular programs.

It's fairly straight forward.
Easiest to place the ROM in the platform-tools folder, that way you don't have to type or copy/paste a long convoluted file path.
Open command prompt within platform-tools and type (don't type quotes):
"adb devices" (this will tell you if it's seeing your phone, not a necessary step)
"adb push ROMFileName.zip /sdcard/" (don't forget the file extension .zip)
It won't work if there happen to be spaces in the file name, so edit the name before hand if necessary.

I had to become familiar with adb when running the SGS2 on CM9, kernel sources weren't out so MTP was broken, and adb was the easiest option for me.

I haven't used it since I had my Sony Ericsson x8, got the nexus S after that and just used fastboot after that to flash cwm and that to flash a rooted rom so I never really needed it!
Time to brush up on my adb skills I think!
updating adb drivers now
Ugh, disregard, perhaps I was smoking crack, or I have different drivers on my home PC. No luck from my work PC at the moment.
Edit: you have to mount /data, but if you're not seeing mounts and storage that's an issue. I'm confused as to why they're not there.
Not having mounts and storage in cwm is quite strange.
If adb won't recognise the device then maybe try fastboot flash another recovery and see if it has mounts and storage.

Wiped Internal Everything, External SDcard won't mount (Showing 0mb) no adb detected

So I was trying to clean flash CM13. I wiped everything and went to maneuver to my external sdcard and lo and behold it isn't mounting. I take it out, back it up, format it. It still isn't showing up. Help. I have no OS installed, I can't push anything in download mode through adb. Please please please I feel stupid as can be.

I had the same exact problem. after I Unlocked the BL and SuperSu and TWRP through Odin I had no access to mine either. It started bootlooping due to kernel panic. I couldn't ABD push or ABD sideload. I just flashed N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar through Odin and redid the Unlock process over again. there is also a kind of One Click method by jrkruse. I've not tried it yet myself. I did use his method on my GS5 though and it worked great.
A quick tip that I learned the hard way is to put any files you will need on your internal storage on your device. once you get all this done and get back to unlock BL and root i can help ya with the ext SD problem.
Good luck...

Alright, so how do I get the SDcard to show up in TWRP?
The next step will only work if you have installed Xposed Framework.
NOTE:
If you are someone who does not like or just doesn't choose to have Xposed installed, then this step will not work.
Lets go,
1.) Install Xposed Framework
2.) Download and install Wanap Xposed module
3.) Activate the module and reboot.
4.) Open Wanam and go to security hacks and check the box for SDcard RW permission, then reboot.
There may be other ways of going about the sd write/mount fix, but this method worked for me.
So..... what is the fix for the SD problem? And what is the next step? ....
I have the same issue, SD Card works fine while booted, but TWRP cannot mount it. It doesn't even see it. I'm confused, because DerangedLoofah acted as if it worked XD and then suddenly asks how to get it to show up ._.
Apparently I'm very confused.
EDIT: Seems doing the same thing I originally did (Reformating my SD card) worked. It just needed to be formatted again.. What even?

Please help me.
Try to flash the nextbit factory firmware here

HTML:
1. i assume you have to unlock bootloader, enable usb debugging and usb driver installed
2. adb minimal install on your pc
3. download the latest factory firmware
4. extract the zip file
5. boot your Robin into Fastboot mode
6. simple hit that flash-all.bat file and plug your nextbit to usb 2 port on your pc.
7. just wait the process
when finished all process your nexbit back to factory default firmware
