Glad his directions worked for you. I actually haven't looked thru the instructions with too much detail, because I prefer a silent boot. I would assume you can delete the file though, as I'm assuming you had to copy the file to the system folder anyways. If you delete it, and it longer works, at least you'll know what to put back, lol.

I'm using it right now on the newest cm7 nightly, suits the rom just fine .
Find the correct .ogg file, using root explorer or any other file manager move the .ogg file to system/media/ui/ and overwrite the initial one. A reboot is needed for sounds to take effect.
U can also adb push "filename.ogg" system/media/ui
/system needs to be mounted 'rw'.
Good luck!

I hadn't done this on my G2 yet when I posted the youtube link, but I just did it and it took about 20-30 seconds to do it.
I've always found that SU File Manager was easier to do this, so people should try it out.
It overwrites the file, make sure you pressed the S in the top left corner. Then just reboot after you've done everything.
Also make sure that you rename the file and delete .zip at the end.

When I look at the .zip of the rom I can see system, media and then Notifications ringtones and UI. But just in the .zip of the rom I flashed.
Any help would be appreciated

[Q] root after sprint 3.7 ota?

Hello, I've searched this forum for around two days trying to find out if I can still help my friend re-root his evo... He was rooted running hardware #0003 and decided to unroot in order to return phone to sprint for the evo shift. after playing around with the shift at the store he said it's not worth giving up his evo.. now he wants to re-root his evo however sense he has been unrooted he accepted sprint's latest ota 3.70 and now for some reason we can't reroot his phone. we used unrevoked 3 to root it the first time. Is there a way to reroot his phone after accepting the new ota from sprint?? Any kind of advice would be of great help. Thank for any input that anyone can provide. btw, he never tried any new roms... he still has the stock rom.
I was able to root a new Evo with the 3.70 OTA update last week using unrevoked 3.32 without any problem at all.
Unrevoked will root 3.7 phone hw v1 2 3 or 4 and all hboots
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
unrevoked worked great for me too
This is great news guys I really appreciate the quick response...I almost forgot, one more question... does it matter if we rooted his phone on a 32 bit windows system and unrooted with a 64 bit windows system? Will it effect rerooting or prevent it? Just curious. Thanks all your help. Would like to donate not sure of how to do that either.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Um no that shouldn't matter. Valid question but the app shouldn't be affected by that.
Swyped from my Evo on steroids.
I rooted from a x64 Windows 7 box so I would sat no it does not matter.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
That did it! Thanks a bunch Just so happens I was still trying to use unrevoked 3.2. I noticed on my own phone that I don't have any system/app files after I formatted my sdcard, I've looked all through my astrology file manager and still no luck. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks.

Your /system/app files aren't stored on the SD Card, they're inside the phone. Unless you're on A2SD.
How did you delete it at? Using a file browser on the phone itself or on your PC? How's the phone/apps behaving?
Is the device S-ON right now or S-OFF? If is S-OFF all you need to do is re-install recovery and super user app. I'm on my phone so I can't post the link for you but go to unrEVOked.com, select the EVO and then unrEVOked forever. Scroll down the page and you'll see a link for ClockworkMod recovery and the su app. Place the recovery file on the root of your SD card and boot into bootloader(volume down & power). The device will find the PC36IMG and you'll be able to update your recovery image to clockwork. Now that your set, flash the su app via recovery and your once again fully rooted.
First of all guys thanks for the help and quick response. It's good to know there's help when you need it. I have s-off and I'm rooted using unrevoked 3.2 can I do all these steps from my phone or only from my laptop?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I followed these steps and still no system/app files. btw, I formatted my SD card using my computer... I don't quite know how much a difference it would make but I remember using my computer. Any other suggestions?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm not sure what you mean. System/app directory isn't on the SD card so if your looking for it on your card you won't find it. As for the instructions I provided, yes these steps are done on your device. All newer versions of unrEVOked do the same thing as unrEVOked forever, Permanent S-OFF. There's really no reason why you'll ever need your pc again as long as you have the files for recovery and su app on your SD card.
I forgot to mention, after formatting your SD card the device will automatically re create the needed directories on the card. Some folders will pop back up instantly while others will appear once you've opened the app associated with the folder. An example would be the DCIM folder. It will only appear once you open the camera application.
Ok cool, l just remember seeing system and app and I don't remember how I got there... I know that sounds pretty stupid but that's what happened... so my concern is if I need to get back there, I want to know where to find it on my phone.. I really appreciat you taking time to try to help. So looks like I need to be looking somewhere on my phone in which I have no idea of where to start..sorry about that...I guess I need to keep researching and messing with my phone more. I really do appreciate all your help.. you guys are awesome.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It's located in the root directory. Another words, you shouldn't be looking in any folder/directory. Open your file explorer and instead of entering a directory such as SD card just locate system. Within system you'll see system/app. It looks like this
acct
app-cache
cache
config
data
dev
etc
mnt
proc
root
sbin
sdcard
sys
SYSTEM - app is located here
Cool! It worked thanks.

It won't unroot it at all. You're safe to delete whatever you want to from your sd card. I suggest copying the sd card to your computer, just so you have a good backup. Then delete whatever you want. That way you have everything backed up, just in case you ever remember something you needed, you'll have it.

Aren't there a couple files you need in there to be able to boot into recovery? Other than those you can delete whatever you desire. Of course some apps and rom features may work incorrectly if you delete their files. Generally the rom and apps will replace these at their next start up if they are vital.

Actually no, since when you load your recovery, it loads it to the phone, not from the sdcard, so you could go into recovery without and sdcard even, you just won't be able to do anything. And yes, as he said, if you have apps/pic backgrounds, ect that are set to read from the sdcard and you delete them you'll get errors, ect.

Not really a big upgrade... just a new modem and completely removed carrier iq... new call screen... just flash one of the el30 custom roms and try it out... I'm running sleeper... cm9 is AMAZING though and if you haven't tried it I suggest you do... viper rom is also planning on releasing an aosp ics rom too! Epic is getting some love from the devs these days! Just make a backup of your current setup and flash away... if you don't like it, your current setup is just a restore away!

thanks i did it. but i miss my legendary. which one are you running? would i be able to ask qbking 77 what he is running. or is that a rule that we cant ask?
another question
it may be a dumb one. but when i restore my app. and i move them back to my sd card is the app being double? or is it just replacing the app from before?

AFAIK, the app is not "doubled" but moved from the internal memory to the SD card, or at least as much is possible to be moved
If unsure, check your internal space before moving the app, and then after, and you should see additional space on the internal after the moving of the APP to the SD card
To answer both your questions qbking77 is currently running CM9 but changes often to make videos so may be on 5 different ROMs in one day.
If your apps are in the system\app folder it replaces them. If your app is somehow in the \data folder and you flash something that adds it to the system folder you will have 2 copies.

thanks again. with the rom you running do all your apps work? i have the rom on my sd card. have not flash it not sure if all the apps will still work. i have cm9 on my touchpad. just waiting on the fixes to hit.
and on question i know it is a noob question. but how can i change my signature. lol

[Q] problem with flashing ""bionic cow" rom

hi ppl, i come here for help because even after reading lots of how-to's i still cant do this, so the thing is, i used odin to flash to a stock rom, and so far so good, the rom had the extension .md5, used that one package, fine.
then i saw a rom called "bionic cow" and from what i could gather, i have to flash thru recovery, because it is a zip, ok chose it from sd card, zip file and all, and then, bam:
"E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(no space left on the device)
installation aborted."
one thing worth mentioning, the zip isnt called package, the card is 16gb, and it has like 14 free, internal mem has around 800 mb free.
what can i try now? yea i did wipe the internal mem thru recovery menus.
This occurs because you are trying to flash it with the stock recovery which as you have found will not work. You must use a custom recovery see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446593
thank you very much, i tried to flash the recovery before with odin, but it seems i wasnt waiting enough time.
It worked and i flashed with OKV4_Final rom.
Another question: what to do when the rom file is in the .7z extension? i extracted it and repacked with zip extension, but it doesnt seem to apear in recovery menu.
EDIT: forget about it, all is good, i was looking in wrong dir.
Thanks
Help!
Please help me.
I also have a problem flashing the same ROM. I have flashed CWM and put the package in .zip file in the SD card (I rename it to Bionic_cow.zip) and install it on CWM, but I get an error saying "Installation Aborted" with an Android with X Sign (?) on the background of the recovery. Can somebody identify what is wrong?
You can't just rename it to zip you have to use 7zip first to combine the two parts

I use a Mac, but either way I didn't rename it to zip. I extracted the original file and compressed it again as a .zip file, but since the file's name is too complicated, I renamed it. Speaking of this, maybe renaming it causes this error?

Create a new folder...place part.1 n part.2 in the same folder.
Extract part.1....part.2 will self merge into one folder.
Browse into that folder and highlight all items n create .zip.
You can name it anything as long as it has. zip
